  • ITunes and Quicktime will not start on new PC using Vista

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new PC using Vista "Home Premium" edition. No previous version of iTunes on PC. I downladed iTunes 7.6. When I try to start iTunes Windows error msg says "iTunes has stopped working check on-line for a solution and close the program". When I click on the link provided it just brings me back to the same page where I already downloaded iTunes 7.6! When I try to start Quicktime I get the same error msg.
Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?
Thank-you in advance for your help.
    Nat

I had the exact same problem. Just use this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
What ended up happening for me was that it was a user-specific problem. For that, just follow these steps (taken from the above article):
    Remove iTunes Plug-ins
third-party iTunes plug-ins can cause many issues, particularly if the plug-in has not been updated to be compatible with new versions of iTunes. iTunes plug-ins are located in the following location:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be corrupt and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Hope this helps.

  • Bootcamp, A2DP using Vista on Macbook Air ( How To )

    Hi,
Thought I help those out who've recently picked up a Macbook Air and get them running on Bluetooth/Windows. People complain about the 1 USB, but who cares, the only thing I've got in the USB (when needed) is the Superdrive and everything else running off Bluetooth! Yes streaming A2DP on Vista on your Macbook Air !
What is Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). Allows streaming audio to your A2DP compatible headset without the hassle of wires or having to plug in USB or stereo cables. If you've got the AIR this is a must do, it's just plain cool right? LOL.
    Here's some tips:
    Bootcamp
    1. YOU NEED THE SUPERDRIVE. I tried several other brands (i.e. LG) they work as regular drives but NOT for Bootcamp/Windows install.
    2. XP and Vista run great but please note, as this was such a hassle, you must use XP with SP2 (don't try installing with any other version then attempt to update, let's just say "pain in the ***"). If using Vista (and have the 5 cd version), make an .iso of cd1, then import the /source files from the other 4 discs into the /source dir on cd1 iso then burn to DVD.
    3. Don't freak out on first startup, insert the DISC 1 the came with AIR. It'll stick all the proper drivers.
    4. I installed Vista SP1 last night, ran fine except I initially lost my soundcard output (not input, weird), but simply reinstalling the bootcamp drives resolved that issue.
    *Bluetooth on Windows*
    1. Following basic mouse/keyboard instructions worked flawlessly no issues with Wireless Apple Keyboard (from G5 series). I wish Apple would release the new thin model WITH keypad (hint hint). Using Microsoft 5000 bluetooth mouse no problems.
    2. Here's the pain in the ***, A2DP. I'm using a Jabra BT8010. Vista picked up my device and 4 services (Audio Sink, Handsfree Teleophony, Headset, Remote Control) whereas XP didn't have any services. Yes I tried broadcom, bluesoleil on XP, but could not find my bluetooth device, thus I went with Vista. Now for those four services above, Windows kept pointing me to Broadcom site for drivers and I've tried some google hacks without avail.
Then I found success using the following Dell drivers: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R142181.EXE
Extract the .exe. When windows asks you for drivers for your Headset Services, point them to \BT350A00\32Bit\Drivers\
3 of 4 services installed flawlessly, I had to initiate the Headset Audio driver install a second time to make it work and voila! I have full streaming audio, Skype, MSN, Youtube, Winamp....etc!
    Hope this helps anyone out.
    Cheers,
    Nolan

Wanted to check this out...so played with BT on Leopard via iTunes. I have to say that the 'use as headphones' option plays quite clean (bass/treble presence, almost similar with wired headphones) not like listening to music through a cellphone call as the typical 'use as Headset' bluetooth option sounds like.
It's probably not audiophile clear but sounds pretty **** good.
Update: For kicks fired up Fusion with Bootamp (Vista), fired up Windows Media Player and it was playing through the 'use as headphones' bluetooth off host, pretty wild (both in single window and unity modes).
Curious, has anyone got A2DP on Windows XP bootcamp?

A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?
    No
Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

  • Home nework using Vista and Windows 7 problem

I have a netbook using window 7 and unable to connect to my home network using Vista. setting it up using bthelp to connect both but I  am unable to doso  as the screen resulution is not correct. for BT help. the netbook is Asus emachine 10inch version. it is 1024 X 600.
my Vista computer does show up the netbook but I am unable to access files even after enabling filesharing and checking firewalls etc.
Windows 7 will only let me set up a homenetwork with other windows7
Vista homenetwork shows I am connected but no information.
anyone any ideas as to what I could do?

It's probably because your netbook is running the "Starter version" of Windows 7
    http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/windows7/archive/2009/05/29/let-s-talk-about-windows-7-starter....
Sorry, I'm a bit pee'ed off at the minute. I just wrote an informative piece about the history of netbooks and accidently navigated away from this page whilst searching for a link for you.
Clicking back returned me here with all my write up....." Gone"
    Bah!
oh well. The starter version of windows 7 iirc doesn't have the capability of home network file sharing.

  • Cannot transfer videos from iPhone 4s to PC with Vista--HELP!!

Have valuable videos of my Dad (his health is declining rapidly) on my iPhone 4s. I want to download them to my PC, which uses Vista. This has been incredibly difficult. I used the most updated version of QuickTime, with no luck. The videos will transfer, but I cannot open them. Would purchasing QuickTime Pro help, or is this a waste of money? I have so many videos on my phone that I can't back it up. Need to transfer them ASAP.

    Hello, OcnBrez.
I know how important these are to you and will do my best to help.  The first question I have is how are you importing these videos?  Any error messages received when attempting to play these videos?  Video importing does require Quicktime 7.6.2 or later.  Below, I have listed the article on how to import your photos.  I have also included the download link for the latest version of Quicktime for Windows.

  • Cannot Delete CPTL file from Desktop using Vista

    Hi All,
I cannot Delete CPTL file from Desktop using Vista. Explorer
crashes. It is a Captivate 2 file.
I have tried (with no luck):
    - logging in as a different user and deleting the file.
    - running explorer as an Administrator
    - uninstalling Captivate.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Raef

    Hi Raef,
That is a strange issue. Here are a couple more ideas you
    could try:
    - Have you tried renaming the file (including suffix)?
    - Have you rebooted?
    - Do you get any error messages when trying to delete, such
    as "Acess Denied"?
    - Is your machine networked? Is it possible someone else has
    the file open?
    - Can the file be moved to another location or put in a
    folder (and then deleted)?
    - Have you tried using the Command Prompt / DOS mode to
    delete the file?
It sounds like it could be a Vista issue so I would look at
the Microsoft Vista forums too. Sorry I do not have an exact
    answer.
    IHTH,
    Aaron

  • PXE across subnets using IP Helper Address

For 10 years I have been trying to get my network engineers to add an IP Helper address of our SCCM PXE Server in order to provide an Enterprise PXE service for our campus (Large University). And every year they keep telling me
they won’t do it due to security concerns. I’m not exactly sure what they mean or what they are afraid of but I am looking for others who have been in this same situation and have been able to accomplish what has been a never ending exercise in futility for
me. I am looking for a white paper or a case study that I can use to help build my case and hope that someday I can convince our engineers that the world won't come to an end by adding IP Helper addresses.

.. they won’t do it due to security concerns. I’m not exactly sure what they mean or what they are afraid of..
You need to get to the bottom of their specific concerns....
PXE involves the use of TFTP (to download the NBP + boot.sdi + boot.wim).
TFTP is neither robust/resilient nor particularly secure.
But I'm guessing that the concern must surely be more related to the payload/content (i.e. what is within the boot image itself) that might be the worry?
The boot image (potentially) contains licensed products (not directly a security concern), and certificates, accounts, passwords, scripts ?
If you have the F8 debug feature enabled in your boot image, it could be used to "live boot" a computer, access the filesystem on that computer, and basically provide uncontrolled access to the files/documents/data on that computer (assuming that your computers
are not using any form of disk encryption).
For this last reason, F8-debug should not remain enabled for "normal" operation.
In our organisation, we mitigate that risk with disk encryption. We also don't distribute boot media nor full media - PXE is the only way we deploy OS (well, outside of the datacentre, that is).
Our networking team were initially concerned about PXE - but not from the security aspect, more from the capacity/bandwidth perspective. So we worked with them to plan/design/place the boot servers, and the DP's placement.

  • Drivers/Utilities CD..XP and VISTA..can I use vista for WIN7 64 bit install?

Drivers/Utilities CD's, that came with the p-35 Motherboard..XP and VISTA..can I use Vista for WIN7 64 bit install, or download the chip set drivers for Awin7 BEFORE the OS install??
    MSI P-35 Platinum
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad
    Presently XP 32Bit
    NVidia geforce 8600GT
    8GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400-800MHz
    Windows 7..waiting to be installed.
    Hello,
I WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.I have Windows 32 Home XP, I have the Win7 OEM I want to install.
When i bought my MSI mobo, it came with both the drivers and utilities for XP and Vista.   Can I use the chip set drivers and utilities for Vista, until i can go to MSI and download the latest chip set drivers?  When do i install these drivers....before the OS install, or after?
Can I format these drives first, go in the BIOS change to boot sequence from Raptor Boot Drive to the DVD/Rom to boot the WIN7 from, or should I format while installing Win7?
Someone on another forum suggested that 1) disconnect the two droves, then install the OS on the boot drive, and2) before win7 install, make the proposed boot drive (NOT THE DVD/CD ROM the first choice priority for the boot sequence....is this right?
Is it absolutely necessary to unplug the other two drives, while formatting and installing the WIN7 O.S.?  People tell me that there is a chance of the OS installing sometimes on the other drives.
Also, if I want to change the now present boot drive Local disk letter (C) to my storage drive (G) and the other two drive letters, can I do this in manage disks, anytime, or only during windows setup install?
    Thx

I've never had this much trouble hooking up a HDD.
I have two IDE DVD/CD ROMS.  (My RAID MODE was IDE in XP OS, and still is with WIN7.)
           I have three SATA HDD's.
After unplugging the SATA 2TB HDD while I installed the WIN7 OS on the 500 GB HDD (it was on the 74 RAPTOR, but I moved location, and made absolutly sure nothing went on my raptor)
So today I decided to re-hook up the 2TB Storage HDD, and when I did, I went into bios, and to the cell menu, and LOAD ALL DEFAULT SETTINGS, so it could see my newly installed HDD,which I had all my backup Data from the previous HDD. I also checked and the RAID MODE was IDE, and the boot sequence was the WDC 500GB Boot/OS drive, rebooted, then I got that annoying blanked out screen with that blinking cursor, so I got back into the bios, and changed the 1st boot to the IDE Pioneer DVD/CD ROM, 2nd boot to the 500GB HDD, and rebooted again..still got that blinking cursor.
I opened up the Mobo, checked and replugged all SATA, and power cables to the three HDDS, tried it again, then still got the blinking cursor.  Seems no matter what I change in the boot sequence,it never wants to boot properly
    ....AND THEN,
I started with TAB > POST> started WINDOWS, then once it opened up, I went to manage Disks, saw all three HDDs were online and healthy.  Win. Explorer also listed them in that folder, in device manager, it listed all three too.
     The managed window showed this:
    74GB    (system,active,Primary partition)                       Storage
    2TB     (Primary partition)                                           Excessive Storage
500GB  (Boot, page files,crash-Dump, Primary partition)   Operating system
Both the PCI IDE BusMaster and ON-Chip SATA Controller were both ENABLED.
Before I just got online, I tried RESTART, and it opened Windows the usual way,  so I hope I don't have any more problems. It worked fine BEFORE I just plugged in the 2TB HDD back in.
I pretty much did what everyone suggested, except for leaving in the 74GB Raptor when I installed WIN7, which prompted me to format the drive prior to installing the OS.  Also, when I changed the IDE, RAID,and AHC1, to the AHC1 Mode, just before I installed Window7, like a few suggested, I also had problems, so after the install, I went back and changed it back to IDE.  My Floppy was an IDE, but I removed it from my system, and disabled in BIOS, but even a few times I went into Bios and saw that thje floppy was 1st Boot, even though I changed to either the DVD/CD Rom, or the 500GB boot drive.
So what is the preferred boot sequence?

I recently started to get an error message "MobileMe Services have stopped working".  I use Vista.  If I remove the MobileMe program, will it affect syncing with my iPhone or with Google Calendar?

No, just uninstall the MobileMe control panel. All Mobileme services have been discontinued, so the control panel is not doing you any good being in there at present.

  • "500 internal server error" when trying to use F4 help in the variable sele

    Hi Experts,
I am getting "500 internal server error" when trying to use F4 help in the variable selection screen (in WAD).
    How could this be resolved?
Quick reply would be very helpfull.
    Thanks in advance !!

It seems you are using wrong client ID. Make sure your logon pad has right details. You should verify this with your basis team.
If the problem persists then try re-installing. But before you do that you can execute sapbexc.xla which is in the c:\program files\sap\bw. Type c:\ in cell c3 and click "start button". Any red flag means you have wrong version dll/ocx on your local drive, in that case you should reinstall with right patches.
if this solution helps u then pls assign points
