Using Web Service a Data Source for my Report

Hi All,
I'm trying to use a Web service as a PDS for my Oracle9ias reports.
I have a few questions on this.
1) Can the webservice Return a Complex data type e.g java.util.Vector? If Yes, How does the report extract data frm the Vecor?
2) If the first option isn't feasible, Can I go for a array of objects as return values provided those objects are serializable?Again how would the report extract data from array of objects?
3) OR is it advisable to go for Document style web service that returns me an XML document?

Crawling is part of the CAS, which is kind of the data ingest process in Endeca as you would know. There are a bunch of OOTB Crawlers available like FileSystem based, XML Crawlers, etc., and there could be a case where you have to write your own and thats what I am suggesting because the XML crawl thats OOTB expects a specific format which isnt really mentioned in the Documentation. Please refer to CASDevGuide for more information. CAS, PlatformServices and ToolsAndFrameworks should be running when you start off with Endeca, you can see that from
ps -ef | grep java
on your machine

Report that uses web services as data source, prompts for database logon

I have a crystal report that uses web services as a data source. When I deploy the report to Infoview it prompts me for a database username and password. Since I am not using a database it should not prompt me for these. I tried various options in the CMC->database settings for this report but it still prompts me for the database logon info or tells me that the database logon information is incorrect.
The report work fine in the Crystal Reports Designer.
Does anyone know how I can prevent this report from prompting me for the database logon info ?

Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Please provide support for the above request.
It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

Using web service as data source on CRXIR2

i do have some trouble connecting SYBASE ASA acting as web service and my report.
it work fine with CRXI and i get error 411 on CRXIR2
when sniffing trame on network it seem that in HTTP layer the content-length is not generated by CRXI ...
in conclusion HELP ......

the error message i get in CRXIR2 is the soap error 411

as i trap (with la sniffer) datagramme i obtaint

Can you use SQL as a data source for a project in the same way you can in Excel?

Excel allows you to create a data source that executes a SQL stored procedure, display that data as a table in a spreadsheet and have that data automatically refresh each time you open the spreadsheet. Is it possible to do the same thing in MS Project, displaying
the data from the stored procedure as a series of tasks?

it would be nice to be able to display it as a Gantt Chart. I've played around with creating a Gantt chart in Excel and have been able to do a very basic one, but it doesn’t quite fit our needs.

No, You can not use sql as a data source for a project.
You have 3 options to achieve it:
1. You can create a Sharepoint list with desired column ,fill desired data in that list then you can create a MS project from Sharepoint List.
2. You can create a SSRS report in which you can display grantt chart Joe has given you that link.
3. You can write a macro in MPP which will take data from your excel. In excel you will fetch data from your stored procedure. write a schedule which will run every day to update your data or
create an excel report in which will update automatically and write macro in mpp which will fetch the data then publish it so that it would be available to team members.

CRM 7.0 - Enhancement of Data Sources for interactive Reporting

Hallo All,
I would like to know whether anybody has positive experience with the enhancement of CRM Data Sources for interactive Reporting. I read that the enhancement of Customer fields should be possible (Those Data Sources below the Hierarchy node /CRMBW/ROOT).
I have seen that the extract structure can be enhanced via RSA6 (as for other data sources).
Questions:
1. Which USEREXIT / BADI has to be used to fill the added fields?
2. Does it work?

Those DS are not meant to be enhanced manually but only by one of the following two ways:
1. Adding custom fields with the Application Enhancement Tool (AET) in the CRM UI.
2. Adding SAP fields with the Interactive Reporting Enhancement Workbench (IREW).

Web services as a sources for ODI

Hi All,
I am facing a problem related to ODI. I want to use web service as source for ODI.
Basically I have build one simple web service which gives system date through Jdeveloper and with OC4J connection. Now I want to use this web service as a source and want to insert this system date (which I will get through this web service) in oracle database. Could you please guide me.
I tell you what I did till now.
1. Developed simple web service through Jdeveloper.
2. Deploy it using OCJ4 connection using Jdeveloper only.
I did some research and came to know about axis2. I installed it but not able to start it properly. As per best of my knowledge we have to use axis2 as web service container and we can take OC4J or Tomcat.
So I want to know how can I install (configure) Axis2 properly and can use my webservice developed through Jdeveloper as a source of ODI.
I gone through documentation of ODI but as I am completely new for JAVA I can not figure it out properly.
Request you to explain each step thoroughly as I am new to Java.

Can Discoverer be used as an XML Data source for XMLP ?

I am wondering if Discoverer can generate an XML Data Source for XMPL.
I have heard that Discoverer Viewer can have XML as an output. Is there a way of using this XML output with XMLP and, if yes, how to batch both steps ?

My understanding is that Discoverer does not generate XML data as an ouput that XMLP can consume. The XML is does generate is actually an XML RDF for Oracle Reports.
XMLP is integrated thou, when you export your Disco report to PDF thats XMLP doing the conversion to PDF for you.

Best Data source for Crystal Reports

Hi Experts,
We have decided to use Crystal Reports 2008, for our project & advised to use BO Universe(based on Dimensional model) as data source against using the Dimensional tables directly(in Oracle).
Since the Universes are based on Dimensional model, typically I have to link two or three Universes for each report. I am concerned about the query performance time involved for the Universe approach vs. using the Dimensional tables directly.
I understand Universe as Meta-Data layer that hides all the database complexity from the end-user, and is a favorable option for Adhoc reports created by end users.
But for developers who are going to create 400 odd reports, I don't see any advantage that Universe brings, compared to linking the tables at Crystal Designer.
And we do not want to write customized Stored Procedures for every report, so our options are Universe/ Oracle tables.

IMHO, the Universe is fantastic for sophisticated end users (who have a general knowledge of logic or a logical mind) to build ad hoc reports. (Less sophisticated users should not be given the ability to design reports.) It should not be used for production reports that will run frequently, as performance can deteriorate quickly. (This is particularly true if you design the universe with the intent to build multiple reports off of one logical view. You tend to do a lot of extra work to gather data that is not needed for the task at hand. Our universe was designed this way - before I got here... I tend not to use it on new reports...)
There is no question in my mind that direct SQL will be the most performant way to develop the reports. In fact, I'd even suggest using SQL Commands as the basis for the reports so the database does all of the heavy lifting of table linking, record selection, sorting, and summarizing. That's what databases are built to do! (I know Crystal is supposed to push what it can to the database, but its definition of what the database can do is very generalized, so a lot ends up on the Crystal server.) This is particularly true if the Crystal server is not the same box as the database server; you don't want to pump huge volumes of data over the network! The downside to this is that some logic tends to get duplicated. This can be minimized by creating additional data (fields, tables, or aggregate tables) in the database, which are populated by one program (where the logic resides) and used by all of the reports. (For example, "definitions" based on data values should be table driven.)

Universe as data source for Crystal Reports

Are there any issues in using a Universe as the data source for a crystal reports? We are using Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 and Crystal Reports XI R2.

We can have a parameter from a Universe, following are the steps which will create the report which is based a Universe with a parameter.
-connect to the universe and you will a Query Panel.
-drag some objects in the Result Objects field. Ex. Country, Revenue.
-then drag an object in the Query Filter. Ex. Country.
-then a new window will appear as Filter Editor.
-Select the prompt option and also select the check box as u201CSelect only from listu201D.
-Click on Ok.
When you refresh the report then there will be a parameter prompting for the Country field. Also you will see a parameter created automatically in the parameter list.
However if you try to create a new parameter (without modifying anything from the query panel) by with the following workflow then there is no option to select the field for the parameter.
-Right click on Parameter fieldsu2014New parameter.
-When you click on the drop down list in the u201CValue Fieldu201D list there are no available fields/objects.
Hence we can create a parameter in CR which is connected to the Universe with the steps mentioned above.

2.5 GB CSV file as data source for Crystal report

Hi Experts,
I was asked to create a crystal report using crystal report as datasource(CSV file that is pretty huge (2.4Gb)). Could you help with me any doc that expalins the steps mainly with data connectivity.
Objective is to create Crystal Report using that csv file as data source, save the report as .rpt with the data and send the results to customer to be read with Crystal Reports Viewer or save the results to PDF.
Please help and suggest me steps as I am new to crystal reports and CSV as source.

The issue of having some records with comma and some with a semi colon will need to be resolved before you can do an import. Assuming that there are no semi colons in any of the text values of the report, you could do a "Find & Replace" to convert the semi colons to commas.
If find & replace isn't an option, you'll need to get the files separately.
I've never used the Import Export Wizzard myself. I've always used the BULK INSERT command
It would look something like this...
BULK INSERT SQLServerTableName
FROM 'c:\My_CSV_File.csv'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',')
This of course implies that your table has the same columns, in the same order as the csv files and that each column is the correct data type to accept the incoming data.

Can we use REST web service as Data source in SSRS? !!!!NOT SOAP!!!!

We have requirement to use the REST web service as the Data source of SSRS. Tried with XML as Data Source, but unfortunately I could not succeed because the query expects SOAPAction which is not available in REST Service.
Do we have any option to use REST Service, if so please provide some basic example, so that I can try out some options.
If not, do we have any alternate solutions to handle these situations?
