Co-Existence Office 2013 Standard & Professional

Hi,
We have 4 Remote Desktop Servers 2012R2 with Office 2013 Standard.
We also own Open Licenses for this for each user.
1 user now needs PowerPivots in Excel, which is only available in Excel 2013 Professional, not in the standard edition.
We purchased 1 Open License for this user for Office 2013 Pro.
On a Testserver I've installed Office 2013 Standard with all features.
After that I've installed Excel 2013 Professional.
Now, whenever someone opens "Excel 2013" on Testserver from apps it opens Excel 2013 Professional, not standard.
Apparently Excel has totally forgotten about the Standard version.
I wouldn't even know how I can specifically start Excel Standard instead of Professional since they both seem to share the same exe (C:\Program Files ((x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\excel.exe). It just starts Excel Professional each time.
Is there a way to restrict Excel professional to this one user ? and let other users still use Excel Standard ?
I'd like to know this before I deploy Excel Professional in our RDS pool.
If no one can answer this : Excel Professional it will be for everyone and this thread will serve as my answer the day MS comes complaining about missing Office Professional licenses.

Hi Chloe,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I went ahead and installed Excel 2013 Pro on our RDS pool, on top of the existing Office 2013 Standard.
I've skipped all the other Pro features during install (access, etc.).
We only need PowerPivot and users need to manually activate it in Trust Center > Add Ons. I've only enabled it for the one user who needs it and who is licensed to use it.
So I guess we aren't really breaking any laws here.
Thanks again, Vincent

  • MS Office 2013 Standard Error Code: 25004 on Windows Server 2012 R2

    We are doing some server maintenance and upgrades for one of our servers here at work. When trying to install MS Office 2013 Standard from a Volume License we are getting the error 25004 which states the installation cannot go through due to a previous
    installation of office on computer from a trial license. Everything has been removed and we've follow numerous steps to remove files in order to get the installation to reach 100%. Unfortunately every step we've taken we are still getting the error 25004.
    We've ran Microsoft FixIt as well as followed the steps from numerous articles here.  Please if anyone has experience and solved this issue respond back with the solution. As of now this server is down due to installation failure of office.

    The 25004 is normally associated with trying to re-installa trial on a machine that has had that trial installed. But you say that is not the case
    Did you just click "Run" directly when you try the Fixit tool? The Fix It tool
    might not work if you click "Run" directly, Please try to save the Fix it tool locally and then use it. Even if you think you don't have Microsoft Office installed, run it anyways.
    You might also need to try the manual removal steps given in
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501? If you’ve tried only the Fixit so far, try the manual removal steps now. Then restart and reinstall.

  • Installed Office 2013 home and Business and its prompting activation for Office 2013 standard

    Dear Friends,
    Previously i got a trial version of Office 2013 stadard version on my PC and later on i purchased Office home and business version, i uninstalled standard version restarted the PC and installed Office 2013 home and Business OEM pack and activated the prduct.
    Now while i am opening any  office product like Excel or Word while checking for activation information there its showing me both the versions of office, Office 2013 standard (activation required) and office 2013 Home and business activated. Now my question
    is why that office standard 2013 is still showing in my activation page where as the same version was unable to find in my control panel programs and features. please help me out to get rid of this issue.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    Maybe you didn't remove the the Standard version completely, I suggest you uninstall Office using the Fix it tool:
    Click this Fix it.
    Or we can uninstall Office 2013 manually, the steps are long and depend on your installation method, please refer to this article below:
    Manually uninstall Office 2013 or Office 365
    Note   Before you start, you need to know removing Office manually is a long, complex process and might require that you reinstall the operating system if certain steps are done incorrectly.
    After the uninstall, install the version you need to check the result.

  • KMS host for office 2013 standard and pro

    Our KMS host is a VM on Windows server 2008 R2
    When I install the patch kms host says I need (kb article 2757817), in order for the KMS host to activate Office 2013 clients on Windows 8, will there be a reboot? If so, will this interfere with clients using Office?
    thanks all :)

    from memory, yes, a KMShost server machine will need a reboot.
    This usually means a brief interruption to all services hosted upon that machine, but after the reboot, services resume.
    KMSclient machines (using Windows or Office), will temporarily be unable to contact the KMShost for activations/renewals, but KMSclients automatically retry every few hours anyway, so should be fine. Some machine *might* show not-genuine warnings (depends
    on your environment) but will quickly resolve itself.

  • Office 2010 Standard & Professional Plus mixed

    Hi, I have a question about virtualizing Office 2010.
    Right now we're running Office 2010 Pro Plus for all users which is locally installed.
    Management asked me to downgrade to Office 2010 Standard to save on license costs. However, some people still need Microsoft Access 2010 so they will still require the Pro Plus edition.
    Management told me MS is about to change its license policy, if Pro Plus is installed and users use only Word & Excel, they still have to pay for a pro plus license. I don't know whether this is true or not (it seems weird to me) it's just what they
    told me which is why they wanna downgrade.
    So the idea is to offer Office 2010 Standard locally installed to all users, and use a custom Office 2010 Pro Plus installation with only Access 2010 virtualized and offer that to specific users.
    Are there any technical or license-technical limitations that would prevent this?
    I appriciate your help. Thanks in advance.
    Rgds,
    Martijn.

    From my perspective, the only valid solution from a licensing perspective would be to create server silos.
    As Aaron pointed out, Office legally is licensed at the endpoint device (like a Linux ThinClient, iPad, PC whatever). According to the license agreements you have to make sure that the user may only connect to RDS servers that have the same version of Office
    installed as it is assigned to the endpoint device.
    In return, you'd have to make sure that nobody uses a 'Standard' enpoint to connect to an RDS Server where Pro (or: Access separately) is available.
    There seem to be some exceptions in conjunction with 3rd party lock-down software. Appsense claims that you are allowed to use such a scenario, when you use their Application Manager product to ensure that only licensed application launches are permitted
    (The say they have a validation by MS).
    However, I'm not aware of such a validation for Microsoft's own products (neither App-V nor AppLocker).
    Technically, your aim wouldn't be easy to achieve, too: To use virtualized Office 2007+ applications, the OfficeDeploymentKit has to be installed locally on the RDS server, and it has to get a list of to-license products. Effectively it manipulates that
    machine's Office Activation subsystem.
    You cannot mix OfficeStandard and Pro in one DeploymentKit configuration (you may be able to combine Standard+Access, as you also can add Visio or Project to the config). Either way the RDS server would report Office Standard or Pro and/or Access license
    usage to the KMS/MAK server.

  • Opening files through network location is not working in Office 2013

    Dear Colleagues!
    We have faced the following problem. On our Windows 7 Professional computers were installed Office 2013 Standard. softwares.  As before we have defined network locations.  After the step into the folder through the dfined network location
    the Word and Excel do not open the files and the base Office 2013 screen appears with the icons. If we define a shortcut onto the desktop of the computer the same way and step into this folder through the mentioned shortcut the Word and Excel 2013 opens
    the files. For Exemple a pdf file opens in Acrobat Reader through the dfined network location and through the mentioned shorcut as well. It would be important to solve the file handling through network locations too.
    Thanks in advance your answers.
    Best regards

    Hi,
    As per the description, I understand that your Office 2013 cannot open files through a network share directly.
    I would like to know that how many clients/users are affected by this in your environment. It could be some specific user account settings, that the Office applications are being affected by.
    I'd first suggest you try with a new Windows user profile, then verify result.

  • Office 2013 installation issues

     I had an Office 365 subscription on my computer and then i got a license for office 2013 standard (volume licensing) for work purposes though still using the same laptop.
    I have uninstalled the 365 but i am not able to install either the 64 or 32 bit version of the software on my 64bit machine.
    I have tried all the Fixits to no avail.
    Can someone pls help with this?

    Hi,
    Would you please detail "i am not able to install either the 64 or 32 bit version of the software on my 64bit machine" a little bit? What's the symptom?
    If there's any error message please let me know.
    You can try installing in Clean Boot Mode, this determines if this is background programs related:

  • Streaming Office 2013

    Hi All,
    I've been working on building and streaming an App-V version of Office 2013 Standard (VL) though the Click-To-Run setup.exe /download and setup.exe /packager codes.
    I created a custom configuration file as such -
    <Configuration>
    <Add OfficeClientEdition="32" >
        <Product ID="StandardVolume">
          <Language ID="en-us" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Access" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="InfoPath" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Lync" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Groove" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="OneNote" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="SharePointDesigner" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Publisher" />
        </Product>
      </Add>
      <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="True" />
      <Property Name="AutoActivate" Value="1" />
    </Configuration>
    (NB - I have realised that SharePointDesigner is not in the Standard 2013)
    And can both download and create the App-V Package.
    However when I go into the App-V Publishing website and go to the 'Applications' it lists OneDrive for Business 2013, Publisher 2013, and OneNote 2013 as part of the package.
    The other issue is that the package itself does not want to stream. It appears when I go to the http and port for the publishing server
    Though does not appear when I run the 'Update' in the UI of the App-V client either on my local system or on a VM of Win 7 Pro I recently set up to test.
    The Publishing Server is running version 5.0.1104.0 and the App-V Clients are 5.0.4001.0 . The package is stored on NAS attached to the network as are the other packages listed.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards

    What's in the client logs?
    Office needs to be published to machines, not users. A machine will probably need a reboot after you've published to machines via an AD group. The computer accounts will need access to the share if you've used SMB streaming.

    The Definitive Guide to Delivering Microsoft Office with App-V

  • Choosing Office 2013 volume licensing plan ... or going retail ... or subscription ... or hunting for 2010 ... what a headache ...

    Our company currently runs an office software equivalent comparable to Office 2003 level. I was researching options (licensing!) for stepping up our office to real Microsoft Office product ... and got stuck with that idea ... totally confused at this point.
    Am I missing something or the cheapest SMB volume licensing option for MS Office 2013 (Standard, no Access component) is like twice as expensive as the retail equivalent? Why is that so? It makes no sense to me at all.
    I can find retail box of Office 2013 Home and Business for around $190 while the cheapest Open License for similar equivalent seems to be priced at $369 (what!?) ... and that is even without Software Assurance?
    Makes it kinda hard to convince management about benefits of VL program over retail ... especially since we are not a Volume Licensed customer (yet) and this purchase *might* make it worth becoming one (does it?).
    On top of that I can't even make decision if we should really go with Office 2013 after reading about live/online account requirement for activation, and here a question how does it work in volume licensing version? I assume it will be a great pain with
    installs from retail media and activation, but VL should have some tools or workarounds for that, no? I read that Office 2010 didn't have such problems and am sad I didn't push towards it when it was still available on retail market.
    Maybe we should go with 2013 subscription for first year and see how that works for us ...
    One thing for sure, I've been digging around this subject for weeks and my headache doesn't want to go away.
    Open to suggestions.

    anybody, any insights?
    Pls, also note that I run a one person IT department for this company, so all the dirty work (installs) will be done by me, hence my question. I can do deployments via GPO, but would like to know about activation gotchas (MS live accounts) for Office 2013,
    is that true for retail licenses?
    As per Volume Licensing, am I looking right and cheapest 1 computer Office 2013 open license stands for like $369? why is i so expensive in volume licensing plans? I doubt our management approves it this way ... which probably means retail licensing for
    me and a great headache with activations over a sneaker net ... times 30 ...

  • Dictionary Option in Word 2013 Standard on Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services Server

    We have a customer running Server 2012 R2 RDS with Office 2013 Standard. They are licensed for Office 2013 via Office 365. Office 2013 Standard is installed on the server via a using the Volume license as directed by MS.
    Each user has a Microsoft Office 365 account.
    When the user attempts to use the Right Click -> Define Option in MS Word, the user is prompted to sign in so they can select a dictionary.
    This is where the problem begins. The login process does not accept the users Office365 account. I was able to create a new Microsoft account (using the same email address as the Office 365 account) and select a dictionary.
    Is this the only method to get the dictionary to work? All 100 users must create another Microsoft account and use that to select a dictionary?

    Hi,
    What Word prompts when user attempts to login with the original account? Any error messages?
    Since the feature will work if you create a new account, have you ever compared the property of these two accounts? Maybe the security or permission setting during the creation process?
    We lack testing environment here for this kind of issues, and we have another dedicated support teams in

  • [Forum FAQ] Visio Standard 2013, Visio Professional 2013 template list and common uses

    As we know, Visio 2013 has three versions: Visio Standard 2013, Visio Professional 2013 and Visio Pro for Office 365.
    Visio Standard 2013:
    Easily create versatile diagrams using a rich set of new and updated shapes and stencils.
    Visio Professional 2013:
    Work as a team to easily create and share professional diagrams that simplify complex information.
    Visio Pro for Office 365:
    Take advantage of all features in Visio Professional 2013 as an always up-to-date subscription from Office 365.
    In my opinion, the biggest difference is business requirements which included product price and EULA. For the price, we could confirm the details from Microsoft store or local provider. In this article, we would
    only summarize the templates among the different versions. You also refer to the build-in template tables for better understanding.

  • Office 2013 Professional Plus - error 1653

    Hi
    I tried to install Office 2013 Professional Plus 64 bit on my Windows 8.1 Update 1 pro 64 bit Lenovo Thinkpad E530.
    The MSI crashes after I deselected Lync and OneDrive for Business and selected Organigram for Powerpoint with the error code 1653 showing up on my Event Log.
    The message in my Event Log looks like this:

    What I've tried so far:
    Used several fixitTools
    Office 2007 Suite:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218#Method2
    Office 2010 Suite:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301#Method2
    And of course
    Office 2013 Suite:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
    I even executed this PowerShell script to ensure that Rollback is disabled and the Microsoft Helper is deleted
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/How-to-fix-Office-af646d16
    Note that my Microsoft Helper folder was not even there before I run the script.
    The Rollback was enabled as I checked and I checked manually for another or the same installation to be listed in the Program Settings.
    After several Reboots and run as Administrator and frustrations I came to you.
    Could you help me please?
    Thanks in advance
    For additional information, I of course share them with you.

    Hi,
    The description of error 1653 is that you could not perform a multiple-package transaction because rollback has been disabled. Multiple-Package Installations cannot run if rollback is disabled. Available beginning with Windows Installer version 4.5.
    According to error code 1653, I find a similar question about it. I address it here, you can follow Micrey’s suggestion to check if it works.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/f6501a3d-5c98-467b-9f48-3c6d20a454df/microsoft-office-professional-2013-encountered-an-error-during-setup?forum=officesetupdeploy
    “The issue when you hit a "1653" is that Windows Installer "DisableRollback" is set. Office 2013 requires that "rollback" be enabled. If you are getting a "1653" error in your logs as Ken did then the solution is to delete the "DisableRollback" (or set to
    '0') at the following registry keys:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer”

    It's recommended to download and install
    Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

  • Office 2013 Professional plus installation on a Windows 7 PC with Office Enterprise 2007 previously installed

    I have a DELL XT2 with plenty of RAM and disk space.
    Until, recently I had Office Enterprise 2007 running with Visio Professional 2007.
    I wish I never tried to upgrade to Office 2013 Professional plus
    - what a waste of time and nightmare.  The software is not fit for purpose will only install on a PC that has never had office on it !!!! complete joke.
    I uninstalled Office 2007, Visio Professional 2007, spent 15 hours cleaning the registry manually and using registry cleaning tools as Microsoft's uninstall does not work.  I have tried clean boots, using Fixit tool to remove old
    traces of Office but no success, I followed the article religiously on how to manually remove Office from the registry and disk.
    The software when installed does not make it to the end and bombs out saying there is a bootstrap loader error, this is not funny any more.
    Can someone advise how to fix this please, I have looked at all the proposed fixes on TechNet and they are a complete waste of time.
    If nobody knows how to fix it and can someone point to a place where I can download 2007 Office Enterprise and Visio Professional 2007 so I can get back to where I was, I can't find the original disks but still have the license keys.
    What can you say, what a waste of life. The folks that write and test the software should no better please don't  release  stuff that's not ready - it just creates a negative experience.
    Thanks

    After reading the whole post, I still don't capture the exact error message or code from it when you failed to install Office 2013.
    The only clue is that "bootstrap loader error" ...
    It seems that you want to upgrade Office 2007 to new Office 2013, by default, we could complete the uninstall previous Office version and install the new Office in the installation wizard.
    At this point, if you get the install source through CD or other media. I recommand that we copy/paste the installation to local drive. Then turn off all of anti-virus and firewall, begin to setup in
    Windows clean boot mode.
    Please use a setup log to troubleshoot setup problems in Office if the installation problem still occurs.

  • Office 2013 Professional + Office 365 Home Premium - what happens?

    I am currently using Office 2013's Excel where I have access to Power Pivot and Power View. This is a perpetual, non-subscription version of Office with the Professional Plus product key.
    I am considering purchasing an Office 365 Home Premium license as well, so my family members can use Office on their devices.
    Since Power Pivot and Power View (afaik) are not part of Office 365 Home Premium, I wanted to know if I can activate my Office with my Home Premium account but override Excel with the product key?
    In other words, is there any way to make Excel behave like it is part of both O365 Home Premium as well as Office 2013 Professional Plus?

    Hi,
    As far as I know, PowerView and Inquire, are only available on certain SKUs (versions). These include:
    Office 2013 Professional Plus (available through Volume Licensing, MSDN and TechNet subscriptions)
    Office 365 Professional Plus (available as standalone subscription)
    Office 365 Professional Plus (available as part of the
    Office 365 Mid-Size Business,
    Office 365 Enterprise Plan 3, or
    Office 365 Enterprise Plan 4 offerings)
    Excel 2013 Standalone Volume License and Standalone Retail 32-bit and 64-bit.
    I recommend you connect
    Microsoft Customer center to get more detailed information.
