Using Wildcards during Text indexing

Hello all,
Can you use a wild card during an indexing? Like can I tell Text to index all files in all directories after /www/docs/root ??
Can this be used with the FILE_DATASTORE variable?
Thanks!!
-garrett

Thanks for the info. It seems very frustrating to not use wildcards. This means that I have to have a schedualed process update the database before I can run my indexing...
thanks,
garrett

  • SMB Server using Oracle Text  Index

    Hi folks,
    I am looking into IFS and can't find any info
    on whether IFS is able to use the Oracle Text
    indexing, when accessed through SMB (directory mount).
    If I search for a file containing a given string
    is that search executed within IFS and only the
    resultset returned to the client, or is every
    file read from IFS delivered to the client,
    searched there and then thrown away if it doesn't
    contain the string (rendering the Text Index useless)?
    Does anybody have background info / experience with this?

    Jan-Peter To answer your question, it would help to have a little more context (pardon the pun). Are you trying to (1) understand how the 9iFS Windows UI uses Oracle Text, or (2) are you trying to write a client application that somehow uses the Text index on 9iFS content?

  • Find Attibute Value for Section That Scores High in Text Index

    I have a table that contains xml documents in an xmltype column. These xml's contain customer information. An xml may contain info for only one customer while another xml can contain info for multiple customers. I also have a context index on these xml's. What I am trying to do is allow the user to search for a customer through the full text index and display the customer name results back to the user along with a score. This works fine for xml's that contain a single customer because I can use extractvalue to pull out the customer name for each xml. But when I have an xml with multiple customers, I need to know the value of the id attribute in the customer tag so that I can extractvalue for that single customer. To me this sounds like it would have to be done during the scoring process so that I know which customer within that xml scored highest, but I am unsure. I'm sure someone else has run into this requirement so any help is appreciated.

    Marco,
    1) I thought a context index is the same as a full text index. Could you explain the differences? What is an XMLIndex? We might be talking about the same thing :)
    2) DB Version: 10.2.0.3
    I am storing the xml in an xmltype column. I am then building a full text index on this column. I am currently testing between the different section group types to see which one provides the best performance.
    3) Here is an example that should be helpfull. This isn't my actual xml, but is should represent my problem:
    <team>
    <manager id=1>
    <name>Manager Name</name>
    </manager>
    <player id=1>
    <name>Player 1</name>
    </player>
    <player id=2>
    <name>Player 2</name>
    </player>
    <player id=3>
    <name>Player 3</name>
    </player>
    </team>
    When I search for 'Player 3' using the full text index. I want to be able to pull back the player name along with the value of the id attribute for the player the scored the highest in this document. Thanks!!

    it works if you put an extra PARAMETERS clause at the end so the creation looks like:

  • Problem with oracle text indexes during import

    We have a 9.2.0.6 database using oracle text features on a server with windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4.
    We need to export its data ( user ARIANE only ) and then import the result into another 9.2.0.6 database.
    The import never comes to an end.
    The only way to make it work is to use the "indexes=n" clause.
    Then ( without the indexes ), we tried to create manually the oracle text indexes.
    We get this error :
    CREATE INDEX ARIANE.DOSTEXTE_DTTEXTE_CTXIDX ON ARIANE.DOSTEXTE (DTTEXTE)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS('lexer ariane_lexer stoplist ctxsys.default_stoplist storage ariane_storage');
    ORA-29855: erreur d'exécution de la routine ODCIINDEXCREATE
    ORA-20000: Erreur Oracle Text :
    DRG-10700: préférence inexistante : ariane_lexer
    ORA-06512: à "CTXSYS.DRUE", ligne 157
    ORA-06512: à "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", ligne 219
    We then tried to uninstall Oracle text and install it ( My Oracle Support [ID 275689.1] ). The index creation above still fails.
    We also checked our Text installation and setup through My Oracle Support FAQ ( ID 153264.1 ) and everything seems ok.
    Do we have to create some ARIANE* lexer preferences through specific pl/sql ( ctx_report* ? ) before importing anything from the ARIANE user ?
    What do we need to do exactly when exporting data with oracle text features from one database to another given we used to restore the database through a copy of the entire windows files ?
    Is there a specific order to follow to succeed an import ?
    Thank you for your help.
    Jean-michel, Nemours, FRANCE

    Hi
    index preferences are not exported, ie ariane_lexer + ariane_storage, only the Text index metada, thus the DRG-10700 from index DDL on target/import DB.
    I recommend to use ctx_report.create_index_script on source/export DB, see Doc ID 189819.1 for details, export with indexes=N and then create text indexes manually after data import.

  • Full Text Indexing for Arabic using NVARCHAR and NCLOB?

    We have an Arabic database that uses UTF-16 and NVARCHAR and NCLOB column types.
    The full text indexing of Oracle gives an error saying that it does not support these column types.
    Can you please help by telling us what is the workaround for this?

    The only workarounds are:
    1) Store data in VARCHAR2 and CLOB in a AL32UTF8 database, or
    2) Use BLOB for document storage - unfortunately, this may be expensive for a lot of short text

  • How to Use FULL TEXT Indexing Search on file names with brackets

    I would like to use a FULL Text Seach query to find Files on a windows file system
    The Problem is when the case comes up where there is a parentheses"()" in the file name. This example was created from a file copy being pasted in the same folder location as the original a few times.
    Here is my code:
    DECLARE
    @SearchWord VARCHAR(50)
    SET @SearchWord = '"KAP1556PP_P01(2).jpg"'
    SELECT [FileName], [FilePath] FROM [dbo].[tblLegalPlan] WHERE CONTAINS(*, @SearchWord)
    When I use Double quotes for the @Searchword I recieve no results.
    SET
    @SearchWord = '"KAP1556PP_P01(2).jpg"'
    When I remove the Double  Quotes for the @Searchword I recieve an error message:
    SET
    @SearchWord = 'KAP1556PP_P01(2).jpg'
    Msg 7630, Level 15, State 2, Line 8
    Syntax error near '(' in the full-text search condition 'KAP1556PP_P01(2).jpg'.
    When I search for files containing TEXT up to the bracket i Get undesrired results obviously:
    SET
    @SearchWord = '"KAP1556PP_P01*"'
    Results
    FileName FilePath
    KAP1556PP_P01(1).jpg BC\EPP\KAP
    KAP1556PP_P01(2).jpg BC\EPP\KAP
    I would like results where I can search for the file name and only one file is found matching the search word.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to use wildcards to match cell contents in an if statement?

    I need to return a ID along with some other information on a page by page basis, so that the information comes out linked by position.  I use a couple of loops and if statements to navigate through the document.  I am able to use exact matches of cell contents which is fine when the contents doesn't vary.  But the IDs, though they have a similar pattern, are all different. In a menu driven search, I am able to find what I need with '150^9^9^9^9^9-^9^9^9' But when I try putting this (or any number of [0-9], *, ? combinations) it fails.  Is it possible to use wildcards?  The symbol used for the match (==) makes me suspect that it is not possible and that only literal, exact matches will work.  But I wanted to check with the experts before giving up.
    Thanks
    pcbaz

    Thanks for the input.  You're right, a GREP search is much more efficient.  But what I'm trying to do and the circumstances here don't allow me, I think,  to go that route. I am trying to generate a list of values coming from several textframes on a single page and have them come out so that I can tell which values belong together.
    I'm using an inherited document with masters that were created 'manually';  the index numbering for textframes and tables is random. I navigate through the pages, looping through textframe indices asking ' does this textframe exist?' If so, I ask if it is a table -- if no, it is a simple textframe and I ask about the ID, if yes, I ask if the contents of cell (0,0) (invariant position and contents) are equal to the table I want..  I am sending the ID and other pieces of information from the table to one row of a new table on a new page.  So the ID and other information from a single page are linked by being in the same row.
    I know this a little 'off-normal' -- I'm using the search to navigate through the document and find things by location the way you do with a spreadsheet.  I have devised a work-around that helps me get around the fact that the ID is not invariant.  I create a list of the (exact) IDs from another document, equating them to a variable ('a').  I then loop through the list of IDs and ask if the contents of the textframe is equal to 'a'..This works o.k, unless there happens to be an extra space, a different kind of hyphen, etc. It would be so much easier if I could use the wildcards that work in a menu-driven text or GREP search in script just to ask about the contents of the textframe.
    Thanks again
    pcbaz (Peter BIerly)
    P.S. we have since rewritten the masters so this problem will not exist in the future -- we now know exactly which textframe and/or table indices to refer to to get any particular bits of information and don't need to ask questions about the contents.

  • Multiple text indexes on a single database

    Hi,
    We want to enable text search on one of our databases. Due to the specificity of the database we want to use a custom thesaurus.
    I would like to know if there's a way to create different text indexes using different thesaurus and then specify the index to be used in the query(similar to oracle sql hints).
    Thanks,
    Uma

    I don't know how often your data changes or how soon that data needs to be searchable or whether there can be any down time. If you can run a nightly procedure, during which time the data would not be searchable, you can have that procedure synchronize the index, then check all of the indexed tokens against those in your financial terms and those in your stoplist, then add any of the tokens that are not financial terms to your stoplist, then drop and rebuid the index. The new documents will then be searchable. It appears that, in order for the new stopwords to be used, the index must be dropped and recreated, not just rebuilt or synchronized. Please see the example below.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition and Full Text Indexing

    Hello, we have recently upgraded our web front end server from SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition (in conjuction with upgrading our main production servers to SQL 2008 R2 Standard). We have 12 Databases on our production
    SQL Server that are replicated to our web frontend server to the SQL Express instance. One of these databases has a FULL TEXT INDEX. The production database is running the Adobe iFilter version 9 64Bit. The FULL TEXT CATALOG has been created and populated
    and performs searches as intended. However, upon replication, when using the search option on our web page based on that PDF iFilter, it no longer works. After examining the properties of the FULL TEXT CATALOG, we note that the Catalog size on the subscriber
    end is 0MB in size (whereas it is 3MB on the Publication side). Also the Unique Key Count on the subscriber side is '1' whereas on the publisher side it is 30,000+. After examining the FT Indexing logs on the subscriber side shows an error: "Warning: No appropriate
    filter was found during full-text index population" On the subscriber side which is running Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition, Adobe Reader 10.1.1 is installed (all 32Bit) with the Adobe iFilter AcroRdIF.dll. When running the SELECT
    * from sys.fulltext_document_types T-Sql statement, the list returned shows the PDF filter to be installed and shows the correct path. Under the System Environment Variables, that path has also been installed (from previous recommendations in researching this
    problem). After numerous reboots, service restarts and re-attempts to get the FT Daemon to crawl - no success. Can anyone please help with this problem? Is there something I am missing? In an attempt to work around this problem thinking there might be a version
    conflict between the 64Bit version on the publisher and the 32Bit version on the subscriber, I disabled the replication of the FULL TEXT CATALOG and tried to create a new catalog on the subscriber with the same results. Thank you for your answers in advance

    Hello Jeff hope your still out there.  I wrote this question 2 years ago and upgraded to SQL Express with advanced services.  Full Text replication worked until last week.  We are operating in a virtual environment.  My publisher box
    is a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) with SQL Server Standard Edition.  My Web front subscriber is a Windows 2003 R2 (32bit) Server with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1 with Advanced Services. Now the exact same thing is happening after 2+ years.
    We are looking for possible updates that might have broken this but I am stretching that.  Any clues please?  32bit vs. 64bit?

  • PMPoint to Text Index conversion

    Hi All,
    Can anyone guide me for the following,
    - I am having a PMPoint object in Pasteboard coordinate space and this lies within in a text box.
    - I want to calculate corresponding text index to this PMPoint.
    I didn't find any APIs in InDesign which takes a PMPoint and provide its corresponding text index in a text frame even in waxline and waxrun interfaces.
    Some Info:
    1) Application: Adobe InDesign CS4
    2) Machine:  MAC OS X
    Thanks,
    Vinod

    Many Thanks Dirk,
    I had manipulated this on the basis of wax line and wax run concept and calculated the text index, but now I think API suggested by you is better.
    Basically, I have one more problem related to this as follows,
    I have to make a continuous tracking of mouse movement, when it is within a text frame(during drop operation) and this tracking has to display with the help of a caret movement. So, After converting the PMPoint to Text index I am using
    Utils<IDragDropTextUtils>()->DrawCaretAtDropLocation(iLayoutview, storyRef, range) API.
    This way, I am able to draw a caret at the calculated text index.
    This API is working fine but the impression of old Caret still remains in the frame while mouse movement so lots of caret seems in the frame.
    So Can you please suggest me any methods to remove those old impression or any other API which can perform the caret movement at the specified index or any other way of doing the same.
    Some info:
    1) I am implementing this in a function DoDragWithin(IDragDropTarget* target, const PMPoint& localPt) of my class derived from CDragDropTargetFlavorHelper. Here I am getting a continuous call and also the updated PMPoint. So I think this is the function where I can show the mouse tracking with the help of a caret movement.
    2) All is related to Drag and Drop functionality.
    3) I see InDesign has this mouse tracking behavior when we drag text from another application and drop it on a text box (a cursor tracks the drop location)
    Tried so far:
    Tried below methods in DoDragWithin() to remove the old caret impression but no results,
    ITextParcelListComposer::RecomposeThruTextIndex()
    IFrameListComposer::RecomposeThru()
    Hope to get some help from you ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • Oracle text indexes

    Can anybody know is it possible to create two oracle text indexes on one column, for example, CTXCAT index and CTXRULE index and what will be during the querying of that column? is it a good practise?
    Thanks in advance.

    When in doubt, test and see.  Yes, you can create two different types of Oracle Text indexes on the same column.  If you create a CTXCAT index and a CTXRULE index, then queries using CATSEARCH will use the CTXCAT index and queries using MATCHES will use the CTXRULE index.  When querying with CATSEARCH, it will find all rows where the terms searched for are found within the column value.  When querying with CTXRULE, it does the opposite, and finds all rows where the column values are found within the terms searched for.  Please see the demonstration below.  As to whether it is a good practice, it depends on what you need.  If you need both types of searches, then yes.  If not, then no, it would be unnecessary overhead.

  • Problem crating text index with PREFIX_INDEX option

    I am trying to create a text index with prefixes option for use in wildcard search scenarios.
    Here is the code I use:
    connect CTXSYS/*******
    BEGIN
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('wildcard_pref', 'BASIC_WORDLIST');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_INDEX','TRUE');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_MIN_LENGTH',3);
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_MAX_LENGTH',8);
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','SUBSTRING_INDEX','YES');
    END;
    And preference is created
    SELECT PRE_OWNER, PRE_NAME FROM CTXSYS.CTX_PREFERENCES;
    PRE_OWNER PRE_NAME
    CTXSYS WILDCARD_PREF
    CTXSYS DEFAULT_STORAGE
    CTXSYS DEFAULT_CLASSIFIER
    Now when I log as one of the database users and try to create the index,
    I got this:
    create index wildcard_idx on MY_Table(Name)
    indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters ('WORDLIST wildcard_pref') ;
    create index wildcard_idx on MY_Table(Name)
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine
    ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
    DRG-10700: preference does not exist: wildcard_pref
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", line 364
    What I am doing wrong ? Keep in mind that I was able to create a text index without the prefixes, but a lot of the searches will be based on patial word search.
    Eventualy I would also like to make those indexes be tansactional and work as a datastore (multiple column search)
    Thanks.
    Stefan

    Problem solved.
    Atrributes and preferences had to be created by the same user creating the index.
    Log as sysdba and
    GRANT EXECUTE ON CTX_DDL TO <user_that_creates_index>
    And it works.

  • How to search in Pages for any number or any character, using wildcards

    Is it possible in Pages to use wildcards to search for any instance of any number? For example, I want to find all occurrences of any one or two digits followed by a colon, such as 8: or 37:
    If I can't use wildcards, is there any other way to search, other than tediously searching for every instance of 1, every instance of 2, etc.?
    Thanks!
    Sue

    Hello
    Here is an enhanced version.
    --[SCRIPT highlight_ digitspluscolon]
    Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : highlight_ digitspluscolon.scpt
    déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    Il vous faudra peut-être créer le dossier Pages et peut-être même le dossier Applications.
    Ouvrir un document traitement de textes Pages
    aller au menu Scripts , choisir Pages puis choisir highlight_ digitspluscolon
    Dans les éléments de texte, l'arrière plan des groupes de chiffres
    suivis d'un caractère deux points sera mis en rouge.
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
    L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
    Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
    Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    --=====
    Save the script as a Script: highlight_ digitspluscolon.scpt
    Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    Open a Pages word processor document.
    go to the Scripts Menu, choose Pages, then choose "highlight_ digitspluscolon"
    In the text objects, the background of groups of digits
    with a trailing colon will be set to red.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
    To make the Script menu appear:
    Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
    Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.
