Using Windows NT 4.0 client program connecting to oracle 8i linux server
Dear sir/madam,
Recently, I have successfully installed Oracle 8i in my red hat linux database server. I am disappointed because I can find client side Oracle Enterprise Manager in my linux server even I have installed client program in my linux database server.
Next, I install Oracle 8i client side program (windows NT/2000 version) in my Windows NT 4.0 server. I am still disappointed because I find Oracle Enterprise Manager console cannot work.
For Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Manager, I have key in default administrator sysman, password oem_temp, and connect to mamagement server hangng (my linux database server). An error message display 'VTK-1000 Unable to connect to the management server hangng. Please verify that you have entered the correct host name and the status of the Oracle Management Server.'.
What's wrong with both Oracle 8i Management Server in linux database server and windows nt 4.0 server. Is there any problem for Oracle Management server console to connect to red hat linux database server?

I need to confirm that I will be able to connect an Oracle 11g R2 client (administrator install) to an Oracle 8i DB before i bother trying to setup such a scenario?Don't waste your time. It won't work. It simply results in an error.
I saw another thread that mentioned a patch level required for 8i to let the 10g client connect. Is there such a patch level needed for 11g clients as well?There is no such patch for 8i which allows 11g client to connect.

Salih KmHi ,
Thanks for your reply.
Contents of my initMYSQLSERVERDSN.ora file is
# This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
# needed for an ODBC Agent.
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MYSQLSERVERDSN
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
HS_FDS_TRACE_FILE_NAME = hsmsql.trc

set ODBCINI=c:\WINDOWS\ODBC.INI
SALIHKM.DOMAIN.COM is my system in which Oracle Test DB is Installed.
SQL Server is in another location.
In Tnsnames i specified ip address.
One more doubt.
I am using 10g Release 2 demo version.
whether it will support Hetrogeneous Services?
How to know whether a database supports HS or not?
Thanks & Regards

you should mount and then open the database
if you are using spfile
then issue
SQL>startup
database mounted.
database opened.
or
SQL> startup nomount pfile='location'
database will be in nomount stage
SQL>alter database mount;
database mounted.
SQL>alter database open;
then you can issue your command..

It is pointless, and just adds to the confusion, to name your listener anything other than the default name of LISTENER
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
Client requests to 'localhost' (or its ip address of 127.0.0.1) never leave the client machine. Hence, any listener configured for that address will never receive a request from any other machine.

You've thrown out a huge amount of detailed data, but showing a variety of errors, and combinations. Overall, I get the impression you are confusing remote vs. local connections. Please read the following, then come back and let's focus on one error at a time.

Windows 7 Pro Client loses connectivity to internal Win2k8 web server
1. affected workstation are Optiplex 380 running Win 7 pro sp1 with broadcom NICs.
2. Internal users use a internal webserver for customer invoicing application. Users lose connectivity to this internal web server, all other networking works, network shares, internet, etc. If I try to ping the webserver IP I get no reply. XP
machines are not affected. Not a DHCP issue as there are plenty of IPs.
3. I have tried different internal NICs (3com) but still had issue. I have upgraded BIOS, nic drivers. etc.
4. I rebuilt one of the machines using Windows XP pro sp3 and have had no issue with that workstation.
the problem started a few months or so ago. I have not been able to determine the source. I tried running wireshark but nothing stuck out. I have changed the session settings on the IIS server from 15 minutes to 6 hours but did not make a difference.
5. Today when client lost connectivity to the server I tried pinging from the server back to the client and the connection was restored. This issue really has me confused as I cannot find anything in the logs that sticks out.Hello,
Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
Thank you for your understanding and support. -
Using Windows 7, i-tunes will not connect to i-tunes store. How do I fix this?
Using my desktop with Windows 7, my iTunes will not connect to the iTuens store. All other functions of iTunes works great. I have all other programs that require internet working just fine..ie browsers (IE, FireFox or Chrome, and all email services) and all work normal.
I updated iTunes to current version as of today April 6, 2012 and now it does not work going to the iTunes Store.
I have about 6-8 different Apple devices that use this iTunes, but right now, none of these are connected with my iTunes, as I was just going in to do some music shopping first before connecting any of them to my PC.
How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance for any and all helpful information!
AngieClose your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Using Windows System Tools 'Back Up' Program????
If you enable the iPod as a disc and it shows up in Windows Explorer as just another drive, why can't I simply use the Windows System Tools 'back up' program to simply back up the iPod drive to my PC? Then when I want, I can reverse the process if needed.
I don't know if you know but Windows server 2003 supports shadow copies:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/storage/vds/default.mspx
You could use some backup sw on the Windows server to backup to a OS X server volume but that wont give you the TimeMachine functionality.
I can't tell you how the shadow copy files can be backed up. -

Using once created prepared statement with different connections in Oracle
Can I use same statement cash using different connections in Oracle
For example I have a prepared statement p1. After its using i close connection (return it to the pool)
Next time I want use p1 statement using another connection.
Question : When I creat p1 in second time ,is it returned from cash or created as a new statement. And what I should do to use once prepared statement using differend connections.
Thaks.As far as I know a PreparedStatement lives and dies with the Connection that created it. So, you cannot use a PreparedStatement with other Connection instances than the one that created it.
You will have to recreate the PreparedStatement for each time you open a connection, or use the same PreparedStatement and NOT close the Connection in between. The last suggestion can be risky though, if you never close the connection...

Error while connecting to Oracle in Linux
I wrote a JAVA program to test the connection with Oracle. It worked in NT environment, but it did not in Linux Environment. I got the error message: "IO exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection."
Here is JAVA code:
import java.sql.*;
class Employee1
public static void main (String args [])
throws SQLException
try{
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@203.149.143.1:1521:ora1",
"dxhub", "manager");
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement ();
ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery ("select user_id from user_info");
while (rset.next ())
System.out.println (rset.getString ("user_id"));
catch(Exception e)
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
I think there is nothing wrong with JAVA code. There must be something wrong in the Linux environment. I appreciate your help if someone can give me a little advice.
