Using WPA and my Canon iP4000r printer

I have both a APExpress and a APExtreme, an APExtreme card in both a mini and a G4 APB. WPA works great until I try to connect my Canon iP4000r WiFi printer to it. Called Canon and they said they cannot help me since the printer functions it just won't connect using WPA. They suggested not using security. This option is not what I want. Has anyone connected a WiFi printer to a WPA network? If so, how do I do it?

Right a bit more info:
Airport Basestation
Info via Airport Admin Utility
Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
Encryption Type WPA and WPA2
Firmware Version: 5.7
I don't use my basestation for NAT/DHCP, but that shouldn't make a difference.
IP4000R
Info via BJ Network Tool
Encryption Method: Use WPA
TCP/IP Setting: Get IP address automatically.
That's it really, although I've provided some more info below.
Some more info from BJ Network Tool :

  • Am trying to get my Ipad1 to work via AirPrint using Pages and a Canon MG8250 printer. My iMac works ok  but the iPad attempt results in the printer trying to use the rear paper tray rather than the lower paper drawer. All drivers and firmware are latest

My set up is Imac + Ipad1 + canon MG8250 printer. Wireless network. airprint in use and functions fine with the Imac. The Ipad initiates printing ok but always faults out with the error 'Printer out of paper' because it tries to use the rear paper tray (special paper ) instead of the paper drawer.

    Johnmac@47-
Could the iMac have printed something that required use of the rear tray?  That might have reset the printer's default.  Look in the printer manual to see if it has a setting to change the default paper tray.  (Note that the iMac does not use AirPrint, it uses the printer's native printing language.)
Your problem may be a flaw in the Canon AirPrint implementation.  I suggest you report it to Apple at <iPad Feedback>, as well as to Canon.  There may be a simple correction that can be made to either the next iOS update or to the Canon printer firmware.

  • Canon iP4000R - printing CDs & DVDs

    Hi
Since upgrading to 10.6, I've been unable to print discs wirelessly using my Canon Pixma iP4000R.
After upgrading the drivers "Canon Printer Software Update 2.3", I can print wirelessly to A4 paper, but the DVDs printing just drags the DVD in, takes 5 mins to pretend to print and spits it out blank.
Using driver Canon iP4000R. I've used the Gutenprint version also with no luck.
Anyone else found how to fix this?
    Ali

    Hi there.
I have a Canon iP5200R and I can still print from Canon's CD LabelPrint application onto CD's via wireless. This was with the previous v10.26 driver and now with the v10.30 driver.
As a test, if you were to connect the printer directly to the Mac via USB, does the same issue exist with DVD printing? Just trying to work out if it could be a driver issue or a communication issue. Also, can you reply with what software and version you are using to print on the CD's.

  • Can WRT54G use WPA and WEP at the same time?

I used to have a smc 802.11b wireless router and a dlink 802.11b wireless print server.
In order to have WPA and a firewall, I replaced the wireless router with a linksys WRT54G.
Then I realize the dlink print server, even though it has the "g" keyword in the model name, does not do WPA (DP-G321).
Do I have to buy a 802.11g wireless print server? Or is there another solution?
I don't supposed the linksys router can do both WPA and WEP at the same time?
Connecting the print server to the router with a cable is not feasible. They are on different floors.

both of your devices are has a wireless b technology settings, just set a wep encryption on your network rather than wpa because some wireless b devices don;t work with wpa. with regards to your query if wep and wpa can be used at the same time, the answer is no.

  • I use noscript and when clicking on "print" on newspaper articles or links to social networks I get javascript:void(null) error and nothing happens. ???

If I am reading an article on, example, the Indy Star website, and there is a button to print, I see this javascript:void(null) error message in the lower corner and nothing happens. If I go to noscript and keep "temporarily allowing all pages" eventually it will print. The same goes with trying to put an article, again say off the Indy Star website, on my Facebook page, I get the same error and have to follow the same routine (temp allow all pages) before it finally works. Any suggestions?

Yes, if you block JavaScript by using the NoScript extension, JavaScript print buttons aren't going to work until you allow JavaScript for the particular domain that print button is for.
You should study the NoScript features and learn how to use that extension. <br />
    http://noscript.net/features
It is a very powerful extension which adds a good deal of security to Firefox, but there is a steep learning curve, and when you first start using it you need to set up the whitelist for web sites that you frequently visit.

  • How to use Text and Image variables for printing

I have been working on product configurator with AS3 for several months now.
I am not proficient with AS3.
Now, it seems that maybe my design is all wrong.
Is there a proper way to do this?
I have a main timeline that has movie clips showing images of different options for the product.
On the first frame, I use buttons to select the choice for option 1 from the Option1_mc.
Then I store the choice in a variable.
I use a button to go to the next choice (frame 10.)
On frame 10, I use buttons to select the choice for option 2 from the Option2_mc.
This is stored in another variable.
There are about 10 options that are selected and stored in variables.
Some are text values and others are instances of images from the Option movie clips.
I made a Print_mc to use for printjob.
I can't get the values of the variables to display in the first frame for printing.
    Any helpl would be appreciated.

    you're welcome.
you won't insert a variable into a textfield.  you'll assign the text property of your textfield to be the value one of your variables points to.
so, for example, if you have:
    var var1:String="this is a test";
    you can use:
    tf.text=var1;

  • How do I get good quality prints using AE and an Epson SPR800 printer

I need to print best quality A4 colour prints for a friend.
My Macbook is connected wirelessly to the home network and prints documents usually on the Epson with no problems.
    My questions are:
    1. What settings should I use from Aperture to get the best quality print?
    2. Should I print from Photoshop CS3 or Elements 6 to give a better print and if so what settings should I select.
    3. I have read all about ICC profiles for the printer and paper and have downloaded the latest from the Epson web site and installed but are these being used when I print using the AE. I ask as I seem to remember in the past that to print over the network the settings on the Macbook were saying I had an an Apple Laserwriter P/S driver and not the Epson R800 driver.
    4. Would I be better to connect directly via USB to the Macbook?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am also interested in the answer to your question and likewise I am wading through lots of threads with no answers...
I did come across something that recommended importing straight from iDVD rather than using iMovie to send to iDVD ... something to do with it being encoded twice? Also people seem to think that iMovie HD creates higher quality mpegs compared to iMovie 8.
But would be good to find a definitive FAQ about all this. There is this site but it is out of date: http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/index.shtml.

  • Unable to set wireless connection with imac and Canon MX860 printer ...

I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and a Canon MX860 printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

Some help at http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV352LL/A perhaps in the comments.
And maybe at http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PIXMA-MX860-Wireless-Printer/product-reviews/B001R4C 5BK in the comments.
"I ran into the same network installation issue that I've seen in other Canon printers. Canon's network setup forces you to connect by USB cable first. Only after you tell the program that you want to use the computer over the network can you remove the USB cable, move the printer if needed, and if you're using a wired connection, reconnect a network cable. The process isn't particularly difficult, but it's more cumbersome than what other printers let you do, which is simply put the printer where you want it, plug in an Ethernet cable, and install the software." source = http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product/pcmag/84634068.aspx?SB=6&OB=1
"MAC wireless network printer setup requires turning off firewall, and works fine if you leave firewall off (not recommended). If you set firewall at "essential connections only," wireless networked MX860 won't work. You must add MP navigator and solution apps to your firewall enabled list. Then it worked fine on the admin account, but still won't work on users account which required additional permission settings and selections. After 2 hours it worked fine, but I would've expected better instruction manual for MAC." source = http://cnet.nytimes.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx860/4852-3181_7-3352 9769.html
"The only trouble that I have had with this machine is setting up the wireless network. The manual instructions are impossible for me to understand and I ended up having to call for assistance. Which easily solved the problem. And again when I had to reconfigure my network settings it was impossible to follow the logarithm of instructions in the manual. Again I needed to call for assistance. If I need help after the year manufacture's warranty I will be charged for these calls." source = http://www.zimbio.com/InkjetPrinter+Reviews/articles/1932/Canon+PIXMA+MX860+Wireless+One+PhotoPrinter
    Even Windows people have trouble:
"I NEED INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONNECT MY HP LAPTOP TO THE CANON MX860 PRINTER."
"I'm with you. I have my mx860 connected usb to my pc with the printer being shared but my wireless laptop can't find it no matter what I try."
    And, unhappy Vista person:
"I had high hopes for this printer - it seemed to have it all. But the wireless feature never worked, it only worked on my gigabit network for about two weeks (only THREE print jobs including the test print), and never observed it to work via USB - Vista (x64 Ultimate) would throw an error saying it could not attach the device."

  • My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printer can no longer find my wireless network. My MAC is, Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and Canon LAN printer setup routine many time. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printercan no longer find my wireless network. (It worked fine until recently) I have a Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and the Canon LAN printer setup routine many times. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Problem with wpa and hidden ssid

    hi,
I have a powerbook g4 (1,67ghz). i am having trouble connecting to a netgear router mr814 v3 if i use wpa and hidden ssid, i get a message, that the router would not support wpa!
there is no problem with wep and hidden ssid or wpa with no hidden ssid.
is also have no problems with wpa and hidden ssid with an ibook.
the problems occur only with the powerbook with os x 10.3.9 as well as 10.4.2. even after the recent airport update, no change.
    thanks for the help,
    ben

I would use WPA and broadcast your SSID.
It use to be useful, but closing your Airport or wireless network (sometimes referred to as not broadcasting your SSID) is really no longer a real option when it comes to wireless security.
Unfortunately "Closed" networks, MAC access control lists, and reduction in transmission power are all more "feel good" security rather than real security. All these various approaches are dated and mistakenly lead to overconfidence.
WPA is your friend if you value wireless security.
My recommendation is not to worry about broadcasting your SSID but use WPA. This will be more secure than a closed WEP encrypted network. Closing your network makes it very difficult for neighbouring networks to see which channels are free thus causing potential interference problems.
Another thing to consider is that a closed network is still broadcasting and therefore is detectable (regardless of whether it is broadcasting a SSID). If someone was determined to hack into your network, then not broadcasting your SSID and MAC address access control is not going to stop them.
WPA is virtually uncrackable (only really vunerable to a dictionary attack if a real word is used as a password) and therefore will stop the casual user and the determined hacker.

  • Canon MP780 printer won't work on Lion

I've recently upgraded my Mac to one running Lion 10.7.2.
My Canon PIXMA MP780 no longer works. The icon is sitting in the dock with a no-entry sign through it.
I've downloaded new software and drivers for it, restarted, deleted and re-added the printer via System Preferences, and am really not sure what to do next...
Have emailed Canon who can take up to 5 days to respond.  I'd like to do some printing before that if I possibly can.
One thing I wasn't able to do that Apple recommend here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147 is to reset the printing system.  The dialogue box they refer to doesn't contain the 'reset printing system' option they refer to here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
Would be most grateful if anyone has experience of this or knows of a fix.
    Many thanks!

I have the same problem!  I upgraded software and the Canon MX780 printer just went away.  Print & scan has the Canon MX870 series put only the scan options.  However, I can still print from a networked laptop.  Just like I always could.  Thinking of importing the laptop DMG and trying to install it.  Canon site has only a scanner driver.
Apple support site tells me that Canon printer driver for MX870 is"

Like I said I can print from a networked laptop.
