Using XCOPY from domain to Workgroup

I have a simple XCOPY that ran perfectly as a scheduled task between two server 2003 computers.
XCOPY C:\QSP\QSPFILES.TXT XX.XX.XX.XX\DAILYUPDATES /S /E /y  (missing the leading \\ to the IP because MS would not let me transmit without verifying my account...........)
One was in a domain and the other a workgroup. I am now trying to run the same XCOPY task between a server 2012 and the same workgroup server and having no success. I also cannot map a shared directory between the two servers. I can successfully
ping, RDP, and resolve between the two.  I am receiving errors such as "Invalid Drive Specification" and Error 0x80070035. I have read over three dozen articles on this subject, suggesting SMB, Net Use, firewalls, digital signing of communications,
and many others. As of yet, I have not seen an answer to the subject. Most blogs have died mid stream without an answer. My guess is most have brought the workgroup into the domain to make it work.
The BOTTOMLINE: Is it possible to XCOPY between a 2012 domain server and 2003 workgroup directory and/or map a WORKGROUP shared directory to a 2012 domain server?

Hi,
àI can successfully
ping, RDP, and resolve between the two.
Would you please let me confirm whether ping each other with IP address and name? Both ping successfully?
àXCOPY C:\QSP\QSPFILES.TXT
XX.XX.XX.XX\DAILYUPDATES /S /E /y
Would you please let me confirm whether this
DAILYUPDATES was a destination folder? When in workgroup server, can you type
\\domain-server-name (or IP-address)\share-folder in RUN to access the destination (such as
DAILYUPDATES that you mentioned)?
I test something in my Lab environment. I has two servers, one is Windows Server 2003 (workgroup), and one
is Windows Server 2012 in domain environment (as DC). Then create a share folder (named
Destination) in the Windows Server 2012 and share for Everyone. In Windows Server 2003, I create another folder (named
Source) and create some files in this folder. Then I run Xcopy command (Xcopy “c:\Source” \\domain-server-name\Destination /S /E /y) in this Windows Server 2003 with Administrator account. Then I find that files in
Source folder in Windows Server 2003 (workgroup) were copied to Destination folder in Windows Server 2012 (domain).
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

  • Moved win 7 system from Domain to Workgroup and can't log in

I just left my old domain (server was retired some time ago) on my Windows 7 laptop, and created a workgroup to move it into. I was using domain administrator account and password consistently on this machine, and when I did this. I was prompted for Administrator
account name and password before windows would make this change, so I thought everything would be ok. Password succeeded.
Now system boots to login page displaying icon and existing name for the computer. (computer was named before joining domain long ago). No other icons are available, no link to log into other accounts, and no password entry field is present (I didn't initially
create a password for new workgroup). When I click icon, "welcome" appears briefly, then "logging off", then I am taken back to same login screen. Shutdown options appear in lower right, but only include shut down, hibernate, sleep, and
restart; no option for log off or change user.
F8 > Last known good config yields same result. I can log in on safe mode, but windows explorer is not present in start menu or task bar, and start menu left (main) panel is featureless above all programs. Control panel and standard options appear in start
menu right panel. I can start explorer from search field, and full directory structure in accessible. Computer named account is shown to be administrator type. I have option available to create a password, but don't want to make things worse.
I want to be able to log onto this account on computer normally, without reinstalling windows. This is my only objective at this time. I don't actually need to be in a workgroup, but that seemed the only way to leave domain. My purpose in leaving domain was
so I could create a homegroup to connect with virtualized windows 7 on my linux desktop system, and to avoid other annoyances that have come up with being in domain.
    Guidance please? Thanks in advance...

  • Can't connect to workgroup from domain

I have a small domain and also a Win7 and a Vista machine each in a workgroup. I'm unable to connect to C$ or Admin$ on the workgroup machine from any of the domain machines. I'm using an account on the workgroup machine using an account that's
in the local admin group using hostname\username format (also tried
username@hostname). File and Print Sharing is enabled and I even tried turning off the firewall but that didn't help. I can ping them, I just can't connect to C$ or Admin$. I've tried connecting to both
    \\hostname\C$ and
    \\IPaddress\C$.

    Try this
    http://www.winsupersite.com/article/windows-7/windows-7-feature-focus-homegroup
    or
Click on the start menu and type secpol.msc in the search box. Browse to "Local Policies" => "Security
    Options".
Search the option as "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" make double click to open it. Click
on the dropdown menu and choose "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Now Apply the configured settings.
In the setting of Advanced sharing, Page of Network and sharing center, you need to have it set as Work/Home
profile and follow some guidelines and try out this :
    -Enable network discovery
-Turn on file and print sharing
    -Turn off password protected sharing
-Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers
Another settings like encryption that I have set as use 128 bit encryption.
and check the related policies with the following way :
    1. Type “gpedit.msc” in the Start=>Search box.
    2. Browse “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.
    3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users

  • 802.1x using authentication from NT Domain Controller instead of Radius

I would like to know if it's possible to configure 802.1x using authentication from NT Domain Controller, instead of using Radius or Tacacs.

It is possible to use MS AD, generic LDAP, Novell NDS for authentication, it's fairly common.
The issue is "How do get the device to talk to the authentication source ... (AD, DC, NDS, LDAP)?"
    The answer is RADIUS.
You can configure RADIUS to pull authentication from a variety of source (depending on the RADIUS - many/most can use any of the LDAP-based systems).
So, yes, certainly you can use the Microsoft AD, but you need RADIUS to connect the two systems (the 802.1x device and the AD server).
If cost is the issue, try freeRADIUS (www.freeradius.org) - it's fully featured (can use LDAP, AD, NDS, Certificates, etc), it's free, and configuration is much easier than it looks ....

I work in a Windows 2003 environment with Active Directory (AD). All of our users are store in AD. The network has one apple computer, but user need to logon to the apple computer by using their window domain account. The OS on the apple is Tiger 10.4.11 and is update. http://forums.adobe.com/community/behance is where you would ask about publishing to "something else" from that program
I use OLD Dreamweaver, and upload my HTML with an FTP program to my own web site... I will GUESS you can do that, if you can save HTML to your hard drive to then be able to upload to your web site

  • How can I use the same domain.sites2 on two macs?

I know iWeb is no longer supported but I still find it ok to manage my web site.
I would like to work on the site from two macs. I thought I could just use the same Domain.sites2 on both macs but: if I move Domain.sites2 to dropbox folder, when I launch iWeb it does not know about it and creates a new empty Domain.sites2 in the Library/iWeb folder
I do not want to have to manually make a copy of Domain.sites2 to Dropbox and then to the other mac's Library every time I switch computer.

You may want to use :
    http://wyodor.byethost8.com/iwebsites/iWebSites.html
Select "Choose new folder" from the File menu to select the folder on Dropbox where your domain file is.
If that does not work, use:
    http://wyodor.byethost8.com/iwebsites/iWebDrop.zip
(Unzip the file and drop the domain file on top of it)
After that, you can open iWeb with your currently used domain file.

  • Can I send email using my own domain address with iCloud the way I can with gmail?

Let's say I own mydomain.com and have a [email protected] email account.  I have set that up to forward to gmail, and that would be easy to switch to iCloud.  Here's the tricky part: gmail allows me to send email as [email protected]  I've been doing this for years and it works, but I'd like to switch from gmail to iCloud.  Can I set up this same behavior with an iCloud @me.com address (which I already have but haven't been using yet)?  I know I can obviously switch the forwarding of incoming mail to my @me.com address...  but can I send [email protected] email through iCloud the way I can with gmail?  All of my devices are Apple: a Mac Mini using Apple's Mail app, and an iPhone and an iPad both using the Apple email app, so I'd rather switch everything over from gmail to iCloud.
P.S.  Awe, c'mon Apple.  Don't turn those fake addresses into links.  I just used them for the sake of giving an example.

Ah, I should have made that clear.  My domain didn't come from google.  It was purchased at and is hosted at dreamhost, but I haven't used their email servers in years - I just route everything through gmail.  I actually have a bunch of domains (with websites).
Gmail has an option that lets someone with custom domains send (and receive) email through gmail using the custom domain once Google confirms proper ownership of the domain (to prevent spammers and such).  Gmail has a setting for "send email as" which allows gmail to be sent using a custom domain as the sender.  I'm pretty sure Apple's old mobileme had this feature too, but I didn't use it.

  • The Best Way to Restore a DC if it is removed from Domain

    Good Day,
I have 2 Windows Server 2008 R2 DC's in my network and I am trying to upgrade 1 of them to Server 2012 R2. The DC being replaced is also running Certificate Services. To do this I will need to remove AD from the DC as well as remove CA and remove it from
the domain. I plan on backing up and restoring Active Directory/Certificate Services to the new Server 2012 box with the new server using the same name as the old DC.
I am worried about this transition because if something goes wrong I will have to not only restore from backup I will have to restore the computer object in AD as well.
    Would the best strategy be:
    Backup AD using ntdsutil
Uninstall AD and CA from DC01
    Remove DC01 from domain
    ** failure occurs **
Restore DC01 computer object in AD on DC02 using ntdsutil authoritative restore
Restore full OS on DC01 from tape backup
The problem I have with this is all of the setting in Sites and Services will still be gone because of the removal of AD from DC01. I am also thinking about simply taking snapshots of the 2 DC's as they are both Virtual Servers in Hyper-V
Another Strategy (Not approved of as snapshot is NOT a backup):
    Snapshot both DC01 and DC02
Uninstall AD and CA from DC01
    Remove DC01 from domain
    ** failure occurs **
Revert back to pre-removal snapshot of DC02
Revert back to pre-removal snapshot of DC01
    Any help would be awesome!

    Hi,
    First at all,
    we don’t recommend to
install CA on a DC. This is because if the DC corrupt and need to demote, we need
to uninstall the CA role first. If you want to install the CA on a DC, please follow below steps:
Clean install a new windows 2012 server and add it to domain as domain member.
Promote this new windows 2012 R2 server to DC.

Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controllerhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504/en-au
Back up CA from 2008 R2 server with steps below:
Backing up a CA database and private key.
    Backing up CA registry settings.
Backing up CAPolicy.inf only if we install our CA by using it.
Removing the CA role service from this server.
Restoring the CA database and configuration on new server.
    Verifying the migration:
    Verifying certificate enrollment
    Verifying CRL publishing

    5. After that,  make the old 2008 DC offline for a while. If everything things are working fine, you can then demote the windows 2008 DC.
    Thanks.

  • Emails are Blocked from domains which are added to "BypassedSenderDomains" in Exchange 2007 Edge server

    Hi,
We have an Exchange server 2007 and an Edge server 2007 is configured in the perimeter network. Most of our clients use Public email domains such as Yahoo and Gmail. Last few weeks it has been a  major issue for us that most of the emails from Yahoo/Gmail
get blocked by our Edge server calming the sender IP address is in Block Lists.
As a solution I've added yahoo.com/gmail.com/aol.com/hotmail.com to "BypassedSenderDomains" hoping if emails receive from one of these domains it will bypass the connection filtering. But still some of our customers complain that their emails are
still not passing to us and blocked by our edge server. They have provided me the error message they receive.
Our clients get following error message
edgexch gave this error: Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list
Your message wasn't delivered due to a permission or security issue. It may have been rejected by a moderator, the address may only accept e-mail from certain senders, or another restriction
    may be preventing delivery.
550 5.7.1 Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list
When I check the Agent logs in Edge server  I found specific email had been blocked. Please check one of the log entry.

This troubles me because I've added Yahoo.com to "BypassedSenderDomains" on 1/28/2014 and this email was blocked on 1/30/2014. I've checked whole Agent logs from 28th to-date and found most of the messages from white-listed domains  bypassed
the content filtering but some were  still getting blocked. Most of the messages from white-listed domains were blocked from "bl.spamcop.net " IP block list provider.
As a solution for the current situation I've disabled "bl.spamcop.net" from the "IP block List Providers". But the issue is, why the mails are getting blocked even the domains were white-listed. I though after white-listing emails domains,
messages will bypass the content filters if the email generates from one of the white-listed email domain.
I've also added the "Content Filter Config" for your reference.

From the internet I can access my server using the registered domain name i.e. www.domain.com.
Is it possible to set my server up so that www.domain.com  also reaches the server when used by a client locally?   At present I get a page not found error.

The configuration you're aiming for is called split-horizon or split-brain DNS, and it's quite possible.  It can get slightly hairy when you have different stuff using the same host name for different purposes, for instance, and you'll need to track all external DNS entries in your internal DNS server when you're running "split".
Here is how to set up DNS services.   Split-horizon is one of the options listed there.
My preference is to use a different domain or subdomain within the network, and to avoid using split-horizon where I can reasonably manage it.  One domain name is configured for and reachable outside and is effectively public, and the other domain (or a subdomain) is inside and private and only reachable directly or via VPN, for instance.

  • How to add user from domain A to a group in domain B

How would you acheive adding a user from domain A to a group that is in domain B via powershell without the Quest cmdlets? I've been trying to figure this out for about a week now. Please let me know if the scripting guy has seen this issue before.

    Hello jrv,
Here's what i was trying to do. The two domains im working with have a trust between them.
    1. Create a user in External.Domain.Com
    2. Add the user in External.Domain.Com to GroupOne in ExternalDomain2.Domain.com
    3. The only knowledge that ExternalDomain2.Domain.Com would have about the account in External.Domain.Com is whatever is in the Global Catalog. Here is what im trying, but it isn't working.
    #Connecting to domain PSDrive
    New-PSDrive
    -Name
    ExternalDomain
    -PSProvider
    ActiveDirectory
    -Root
    -Server
    DC01.Domain.com
    cd
    ExternalDomain:
    #Create user
    #Add to ExternalDomain Groups
    $UserDN=Get-ADUser-LDAPFilter"(sAMAccountName=$UserID)"
    #Connecting to domain2 PSDrive
    cd
    AD:
    $GroupDN="CN=Wireless
    Device Users,OU=Wireless,OU=Systems and Technology,DC=External,DC=Domain2,DC=Com"
    Add-ADGroupMember-Identity$GroupDN-Members(Get-ADObject-Identity$UserDN.DistinguishedName
    -Server"DC01.Domain.com:3268")
Connecting via port 3268 allows me to talk to the global catalog instead of LDAP.
I receive the following message: A Referral was returned from the server
I know that if i connect using [ADSI] i am able to specify that the connection follows referrals, the AD cmdlets seem to not have that function. The Quest AD cmdlets do... I just dont want to have to use third party cmdlets to do what the AD cmdlets should
be able to do in the first place.
    THanks,

  • Win32 API to get cluster List from domain

    Hi ,
we are using NetServerEnum API to retrive the list of cluster from domain. But it failed with error 2127 on windows 2008 server and the cluster /list command also failed with same error.
But if we pass domain name to cluster .exe then it works.
So is there any win32 API other than NetserverEnum which will give the list of clusters in a domain.

    Hi,
can you also use powershell here?
    Get-Cluster -domain yourdomainFQDN.com
This will give you all failover cluster in the specified DNS domain.
    Hope that helps.
