• Using intermedia text

Hello,
I'm working on a website at the moment which is cgi based and has an Oracle 8i backend.
On this website users can upload word documents etc into an knowledge base. These documents are physically held on the file system
What I want to do is to upload the documents to an Oracle table and then use intermedia text to search on these documents. I would like to avail of intermedia Themes & Gists and the "ranking" system it uses. In other words I would like the search to return something similar to the search results you find in Oracle Portal.
Any information on how to incorporate oracle intermedia into an existing cgi based website would be much appreciated.
thank you.

Hi,
For documentation see here on technet: products -> Oracle Text.
You don't have to load the documents into the database when they are already in the filesystem.
You can create a table with an entry for each filename.
Here is a sample script for FILE_DATASTORE with INSO FILTER (for filtering word and other documents).
=========================================================
-- Sample INSO Filter and FileDatastore
drop table datastores;
create table datastores(id number primary key, docs varchar2(2000));
insert into datastores values(1,'whitepaper.pdf');
commit;

• Help with interMedia Text and files into Content Area!!

Hello
I need to use interMedia text to search into the content of some files(.pdf and .doc) that have been uploaded to a content area. I have found that I can use operators like contains, soundex(!) and some other but my problem is that I have no idea how to create my query in order to search into the files.
Please can anybody give me an example of using intermedia to search into some files stored in a content area.
I know that by clicking on the portal home, Search Settings under interMedia Create index the content of my files are indexed but I still don't understand how to search over this content.
Thanks in advance
Ana Lasprilla

Hi
I don't want to use this portlet because It can be customize the way I need it to, so I want to build my own searcher that's why I need to know how can I access the files into my content area with intermedia.
Another idea please

• InterMedia Text Search results

We have interMedia Text enabled on our 3.0.9.8.2 install and, for Search Results, I need to understand how the percentage score is calculated and, if results have the same score, how the order is determined. Is it possible to reorder the results because it appears to be random? Can anyone point me to the relevant documentation?

So Stephen, if I understand correctly, you have URL items, where the URL references the content in the IFS repository. This means that these items are being indexed by the WWSBR_URL_CTX_INDX. It'd be interesting to see if the results are returned as you would expect them to be using this index alone. This will tell you if there is a problem with Intermedia Text or if the problem lies with the way that Portal is using Intermedia Text and combining the scores from the multiple indexes.
Try running a SQL query like
select i.title, score(10) scr from wwv_things i, wwsbr_url$ u
where i.id=u.object_id
and contains (u.absolute_url,'${oracle}',10) > 0
order by scr desc
This will match your search term against only text which was indexed by the URL index and returns the display name of the corresponding item. Here I've searched for the term 'oracle'; change this to whatever you were using in your testcase. Note also that the $ implies the stem operator which is used by default in Portal.
If this query doesn't return you the scores that you were expecting then the problem is to do with the way that Intermedia Text is indexing your PDF documents. If it does return what you'd expect then we need to look more closely at what Portal is doing with the scores.

• Problems clause within (Intermedia text)

I have problems using the clause within in a XML file. I suspect that is impossible for the intermedia text to find words within tags with attributes, could you help me, my friend?
Thanks a lot.
And Merry Christmas.

Hi Ralf,
please define first your own preferences like this:
exec CTX_DDL.drop_preference('MY_LEXER');
exec CTX_DDL.create_preference('MY_LEXER','BASIC_LEXER');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','ALTERNATE_SPELLING',
'GERMAN');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','BASE_LETTER','YES');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','MIXED_CASE', 'NO');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','INDEX_THEMES','NO');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','INDEX_TEXT', 'YES');
exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','COMPOSITE', 'GERMAN');
exec ctx_ddl.Drop_Preference ('MY_FILTER');
exec ctx_ddl.Create_Preference ('MY_FILTER','NULL_FILTER');
exec ctx_ddl.drop_section_group ('MY_SECTION');
exec ctx_ddl.create_section_group
('MY_SECTION','NULL_SECTION_GROUP');
and then create your index with this preferences. You only need
an INSO filter if you want to index pdf,word,...
create index test.alldocs_ctx on test.alldocs(data)
indextype is ctxsys.context
parameters ('DATASTORE CTXSYS.MyUserDS FILTER
CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER LEXER BASIC_LEXER');create index test.alldocs_ctx on test.alldocs(data)
indextype is ctxsys.context
parameters ('
DATASTORE CTXSYS.MyUserDS
lexer MY_LEXER
filter MY_FILTER
section group MY_SECTION');
Then see in the token table what tokens are in the index:
select token_text from dr$alldocs_ctx$i;
If you got also an ORA-3113 see in alert.log if there is a trace
referenced with this error and have a look in this file to find a
better error message.
Good luck.

• Error message when searching for an object link within EasyDMS

Hello,
I have a problem with the easydms system. Everything works fine except searching in the object links. When I want to define an object link and I don't know the name of the object I try to find it with the help of the search function within easydms (within the object links).
But the search always delivers an error message:
"Missing authorization check to display master data"
Does anybody now what to do?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Markus Sigl

Hi Markus,
When you try to do this the BAPI 'BAPI_HELPVALUES_GET' is used. There are some authorization checks that are being performed for the object. These authorizations are maintained in the table BAPIF4T.
For the above said test data, you are trying to get the help values for
the relevant field (e.g. EBELN: po_number).However,in table BAPIF4T the corresponding authorization for the data element ebeln is not maintained. And so you are getting this error.
So, when you maintain the below record in the table BAPIF4T,you will
have the corresponding authorization and you will not get the error
anymore.
sample entry:
Object type - ' '
Object type component - ' '
BAPIF4T-DTEL - 'EBELN'
BAPIF4T-FNAM - 'PLM_HELPVALUES_AUTHCHECK'
Best regards,
Christoph

• After updating to 4.3.5, spotlight does not search within text messages

HI,
I just updated my iPhone 4 to 4.3.5 and Spotlight does not search within the text of my SMS text messages any more. It only searches by the name of the SMS senders. There does not seem to be any setting I can adjust and I have restarted the phone several times but nothing changed.

I figured out how to get it working while retaining your data.
Connect your phone and perform a full backup.
Erase all data/media or restore the phone
Select setup as a new iPhone when prompted in iTunes. Give it some other name (i.e. "New").
Grab a copy of iBackupBot from here http://www.icopybot.com/itunes-backup-manager.htm
Run iBackupBot and select the new backup
In the file list, locate the file name SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
Open the plist be double-clicking on it.
Copy the contents of this file to clipboard.
Select the full backup of your iphone under it's original name (make sure to grab the one with the latest date).
Locate SystemConfiguation/preferences.plist
Scroll to the bottom and note the Hostname for your phone.
Replace the contents of this file with the that from the "New" backup making sure to change the hostname and phone name in the last section of the plist.
Save the changes to the plist.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes
Right-click on it and select "Restore from backup"
Locate the latest backup under your phone's original name
When it's done restoring and reinstalling your applications, you should once again have push notifications that work over the cellular network.

• Text search within pdf

has anyone found a way/app that lets you do text search within a pdf?
thanks.

You should be able - when I have a PDF open in Safari, then the search field at the top right of Safari will search within the PDF. Whether it works with all PDF documents I don't know.

null

Your problem here is that when you store an XML document in a CLOB and search it using intermedia, when you do a query like:
SELECT xml_text
FROM bookstore
WHERE CONTAINS(xml_text,'John WITHIN authorsec')>0
The output from the XML SQL Utility using getXMLDOM() looks like this:<ROWSET>
<ROW>
<XML_TEXT>
<bookstuff>
<authorsec>

</authorsec>
etc.
</bookstuff>

</XML_TEXT>
</ROW>
</ROWSET>with the document as a single text value (it's actually just a text node, not a CDATA node) but the above illustrates conceptually that the whole XML document is one big text node.
To transform this you'll need to parse that XML text into an XML document in memory by passing constructing a StringReader() on the text value and parsing that reader.

• Text wrap for a paragraph: How to define the width of a Text box / active text area? I simply need a longish text to wrap within the frame!

Hello, I've been searching for a good while in the forums now, but have found no solution or real mention of the problem – I hope some of you can help.
I want to very simply layout a text between scenes, a slightly longer text that wraps within the frame margins. Here's an example of how I want it to look:
Now, I couldn't for the life of me get the Custom Text to behave like that, as there are no parameters to set for the width of the text area. The Text Size, yes, along with the Tracking, Baseline and all that, but the width of the text box, no. The above was created by customizing one of the other Text Generator presets that happened to be left aligned.
However, this preset has a fade in/fade out transition, which I do not want. There's no way to remove this transition as it seems integrated into the Text Generator (meaning they are not really presets, but separate kinds of Text objects? Very silly.)
So I am asking you: Is there any way to get the Custom Text generator to behave like that? Just a text paragraph as above. Below you'll see all I can manage with the diffferent Custom Text parameters. Any kind of repositioning and resizing of the text just changes the position and size of the frame – but the actual text items are just cropped off where they extend out of that frame. Apparently the bounding box for the text is just some default length, and I can't find any way to adjust the width. See below my different attempts.
The same text pasted into a Custom Text generator clearly extends outside the frame:
Here Transform just moves – or resizes – the video frame that the Text Box exists inside:
The Crop gives similar results, and of course Distort doesn't get me closer to what I need, either. There should be simply a Text Box Width parameter to set somewhere, but if it exists they have hidden it very well. How do you do it?
Thanks for any help, this is a silly problem, but one of now many trivial problems that amount to me growing quite dissatisfied with FCPX. Hopefully I've just overlooked something.
All the best,
Thomas

Thomas...same kind of crap here.
I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
Set to 72 pt.
The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
Using Transform will not sort it!

• How to store XML and search within tags

My question
===========
exactly what steps do you need follow to take an XML doc, store
it, and query based on a tag value.
The 8i Intermedia text option Reference refers to
XLM_SECTION_GROUP feature. However, no examples are given. There
is no user guide.
I searched Oracle's website and found one reference to
XML_SECTION_GROUP. The example given is a single row insert into
a CLOB column with a single pair of tags.
This whitepaper gives an example of an XML doc, and a query on
it:
XML Support in Oracle8i and Beyond
November 9, 1998
It doesn't list the steps in between storing the doc and quering
it. This is crucial to the whole thing: does XML_SECTION_GROUP
allow all nested tags below the top level to be sectioned and
indexed implicitly? Or do you need to tell Oracle about all the
tags you are interested in, in which case what value is added by
the XLM_SECTION_GROUP?
Does Oracle have some better examples on this?
Below is text cut and pasted from the whitepaper.

Once instances of iFS file types (including XML-based ones) are

Any XML documents or document fragments saved into "text blobs"

Since ConText is seamlessly integrated into the database and
the SQL language, developers can

Currently you cannot break apart an arbitrary XML doc and store
it into the database without using XSLT to create DDL to insert
it. You can create a schema and have XML be read and written to
it. Check out the XML SQL Utility available here for download.
As for the section searching, in 8.1.5 you can only get section
searching not hierarchical searches. interMedia in this version
doesn't understand the XML structure. This will come in 8.1.6.

• Using Oracle Text to search through WORD, EXCEL and PDF documents

Hello again,
What I would like to know is if I have a WORD or PDF document stored in a table. Is it possible to use Oracle Text to search through the actual WORD or PDF document?
Thanks
Doug

Yes you can do context sensitive searches on both PDF and Word docs. With the PDF you need to make sure they are text and not images. Some scanners will create PDFs that are nothing more than images of document.
Below is code sample that I made some time back to demonstrate the searching capabilities of Oracle Text. Note that the example makes use of the inso_filter that is no longer shipped with Oracle begging with Patch set 10.1.0.4. See metalink note 298017.1 for the changes. See the following link for more information on developing with Oracle Text.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/text.101/b10729/toc.htm
begin example.
-- The following needs to be executed
-- as sys.
DROP DIRECTORY docs_dir;
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY docs_dir
AS 'C:\sql\oracle_text\documents';
GRANT READ ON DIRECTORY docs_dir TO text;
-- End sys ran SQL
DROP TABLE db_docs CASCADE CONSTRAINTS PURGE;
CREATE TABLE db_docs (
id NUMBER,
format VARCHAR2(10),
location VARCHAR2(50),
document BLOB,
CONSTRAINT i_db_docs_p PRIMARY KEY(id)
-- Several notes need to be made about this anonymous block.
-- First the 'DOCS_DIR' parameter is a directory object name.
-- This directory object name must be in upper case.
DECLARE
f_lob BFILE;
b_lob BLOB;
document_name VARCHAR2(50);
BEGIN
document_name := 'externaltables.doc';
INSERT INTO db_docs
VALUES (1, 'binary', 'C:\sql\oracle_text\documents\externaltables.doc', empty_blob())
RETURN document INTO b_lob;
f_lob := BFILENAME('DOCS_DIR', document_name);
DBMS_LOB.FILEOPEN(f_lob, DBMS_LOB.FILE_READONLY);
DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE(b_lob, f_lob, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(f_lob));
DBMS_LOB.FILECLOSE(f_lob);
COMMIT;
END;
-- build the index
-- Note that this index differs than the file system stored file
-- in that paramter datastore is ctxsys.defautl_datastore and not
-- ctxsys.file_datastore. FILE_DATASTORE is for documents that
-- exist on the file system. DEFAULT_DATASTORE is for documents
-- that are stored in the column.
create index db_docs_ctx on db_docs(document)
indextype is ctxsys.context
parameters (
'datastore ctxsys.default_datastore
filter ctxsys.inso_filter
format column format');
--search for something that is known to not be in the document.
SELECT SCORE(1), id, location
FROM db_docs
WHERE CONTAINS(document, 'Jenkinson', 1) > 0;
--search for something that is known to be in the document.
SELECT SCORE(1), id, location
FROM db_docs
WHERE CONTAINS(document, 'Albright', 1) > 0;

• Using InterMedia Text with FrameMaker, StarOffice...

I'm planning to use InterMedia text with various kinds of documents, but inso filter does not support them. In particular, it does not support:
- Framemaker
- PostScript (I know it works on encapsulated PostScript)
- Applix
Where can I find the right filters?
Is there a way to use InterMedia text with these documents?
Thank you
Paolo Bonanomi

I'd suggest searching the web - there are a number of little freeware filters out there that could be used as user-filters.>Have anybody found a postscript filter and can post it here ?

Mihai
