Utilizing JSF with BC4J or ADF

I see a lot of stuff on JSF being published now on OTN. I am just wondering...all of the examples show interaction of the managed bean with the database through a DBUtils class. What would you (Oracle java developers) suggest how to integrate JSF, specifically a UIData component, with ADF. With BC4J, we would get an app module...and then a view object and use the view object to populate several arrays (each array representing a column). These arrays would be the "data model" for the UIData component. ADF (or BC4J) would maintain my data persistence and put-away...and JSF just displays the data. Any ideas here or best practices Oracle would recommend?

I've been able to get JSF working with the ADF bindings to some extent as described above, but am having trouble getting the BC4J range set to respond. i.e. clicking the next set/previous set buttons shows the same set of records. The buttons I'm trying to use are the same ones JDev creates with the JSTL tags - created by dragging from the data component palette.
<input type="submit" name="<c:out value='${bindings.Previous_Set.path}' />" value="Previous Set" <c:out value="${bindings.Previous_Set.enabledString}"/>/>
<input type="submit" name="<c:out value='${bindings.Next_Set.path}' />" value="Next Set" <c:out value="${bindings.Next_Set.enabledString}"/>/>
<h:data_table var="Row" value="#{bindings.CrCarshopStatusView1.rangeSet}" rows="5">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:output_text value="CS"/>
</f:facet>
<h:output_text value="#{Row.currencyString}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:output_text value="#{bindings.CrCarshopStatusView1.labels.TrackingId}"/>
</f:facet>
<h:output_text value="#{Row.TrackingId}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:output_text value="#{bindings.CrCarshopStatusView1.labels.Carinit}"/>
</f:facet>
<h:input_text value="#{Row.Carinit}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:output_text value="#{bindings.CrCarshopStatusView1.labels.Carnum}"/>
</f:facet>
<h:input_text value="#{Row.Carnum}" size="6">
<f:validate_length minimum="6" />
</h:input_text>
</h:column>
</h:data_table>
I had thought that the JSF tags would just plug into the bindings and advance along with them, but that isn't happening. Can someone provide an example syntax for working with the bindings through JSF tags?
Any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks much.

  • How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3 with BC4J- and ADF-Libraries

    Hi
    I have done all the steps mentioned in this thread:
    How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3
    However, the new created OC4J instance obviously misses some libraries. If I deploy my Application to this OC4J I get an internal error: Class not found: oracle.jbo.JboException.
    The same Application runs well in the "home" Instance.
    What is the trick, to create a new OC4J instance, which more or less behaves the same way as the "home" instances (and especially has all the same libraries)?
    Thanks for your help
    Frank Brandstetter

    I encountered this last month. I definitely agree that it is a glaring omission to not have "Create Like" functionality when instantiating new containers. Here's my notes on the manual steps required after using createinstance to create the fresh container. Not too bad. I've been deploying ADF applications to the new container with no problems after this.
    ==============
    The default (home) OC4J container is pre-configured for ADF 10.1.3 applications; however, when $ORACLE_HOME/bin/createinstance is used to create additional containers, these containers are not configured automatically to host ADF 10.1.3 applications.
    I followed these manual steps:
    1. $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/server.xml defines three shared libraries that "install" the needed JARs for Oracle ADF applications in your application server instance (container). Note that "install" does not necessarily mean available to applications (see Step 2). Copy the three shared library element definitions to the <application-server> element of your new container (in server.xml).

    2. To make the necessary ADF and JSF support libraries available to your deployed ADF application, the default application (that your ADF application and the majority of applications should inherit from) should explicitly import the shared library in the <orion-application> element of $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<your container>/config/application.xml.

  • Performance Issue : Why does ADF Taskflow Portlet (JSF bridge portlet) loading ADF Specific images, css, js everytime from portlet producer with dynamic URL with portlet_id and context parameters?

    Hi All,
    We have used WSRP Portlet in Webcenter Portal Page. The Portlet is created using JSF Bridge out of ADF Bounded Taskflow.
    It is causing Performance issue. Every time static content like js, css and images URLs are downloaded  and the URL contain portlet_id and few other dynamic parameters like resource_id, client_id etc.
    We are not able to cache these static content as these contains dynamic URL. This ADF Specific  images, js and css files  are taking longer time to load.
    Sample URL:
    /<PORTAL_CONTEXT>/resourceproxy/~.clientId~3D-1~26resourceId~3Dresource-url~25253Dhttp~2525253A~2525252F~2525252F<10.*.*.*>~2525253A7020~2525252FportletProdApp~2525252Fafr~2525252Fring_60.gif~26locale~3Den~26checksum~3D3e839bc581d5ce6858c88e7cb3f17d073c0091c7/ring_60.gif

    Technologies Used:
    Webcenter Portal PS6
    Jdeveloper 11.1.1.7
    Please suggest , how this performance issue can be resolved?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Digesh

    Strange...
    I can't reproduce this because i have issues with creating portlets... If i can solve this issue i will do some testing and see if i can reproduce the issue...
    Can you create a new producer with a single portlet that uses a simple taskflow and see if that works?
    Are you also using business components in the taskflows or something? You can try removing some parts of the taskflow and test if it works so you can identify the component(s) that causes the issues.

  • Problem with Dates in ADF Calendar (Possibly Oracle 9i related?)

    Hi All,
    I have an entity and up-datable view object based on the following table
    CREATE TABLE IM_CALENDAR
    ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    START_TIME DATE,
    END_TIME DATE,
    PROVIDER_ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    TITLE VARCHAR2(256 BYTE),
    RECURRING VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    REMINDER VARCHAR2(3 BYTE),
    TIME_TYPE VARCHAR2(6 BYTE),
    LOCATION VARCHAR2(256 BYTE)
    When I run the ADF Application, it responds with the following error.
    Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
    In the app server console, I get the following error message.
    <Utils><buildFacesMessage> ADF: Adding the following JSF error message: Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
    oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException: JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
         at oracle.jbo.domain.TypeFactory.get(TypeFactory.java:852)
    In my Oracle XE database this ran fine. But I am now running on an Oracle 9i Database, will this cause an issue with ADF?

    The error message you give has nothing to do with the database.. seems that something else has changed (assuming it used to work)

  • Creating a WebCenter Application with PageCutomizable and ADF Security

    I created a Webcenter App in Jdev 11.1.1.2.0 with webcenter extension.
    I have 2 JSPX files.
    One called mainTemplate.jspx
    - contains header, footer in ADF and a center facet.
    One called Welcome.jspx created from mainTemplate
    - contains page customizable > panel customizable > layout customizable > various custom panel configs.
    ADF security is configured with BASIC, authentication only. Because form authentication seems harder to get working.
    We have one weblogic user, and currently deploy to the integrated WLS, although we'll deploy out to a full server once security/composer is working.
    The problem is, when we run the Welcome.jspx, and because we added a reference to a logged in var, it requests http login fine.
    We then refresh the page and see that we are indeed logged in as 'weblogic'.
    Is weblogic a special user? should I create a new one? Is there any setup required on the Integrated WLS to get this working?
    However when we click on 'add Content' using the composer we get a permission error.
    +<RegistrationConfigurator><handleError> Server Exception during PPR, #1+

    I tried using the Customization allowed var in the property inspector, but could not map 'allowed by' to a user or role that my setup would recognise. The doco specifies 'admin' which does not work for me.
    In my catalog I have a WCM portlet taskflow, which will require its own permissions.
    I tried enabling permissions for the test-all role to all of my pages/taskflows, leaving just the 'view' permission to the anonymous role.
    I also tried authentication/authorization profiles, and building my own jspx login/error pages, but no luck there either, the login button doesn't seem to tirgger my java doLogin class, even though I set the binding on the button using the method expression builder to the bean method.
    *note: I didn't try the welcome/login/error page auto create as they generate html files, I created JSFs with full UI in there. Am I required to use those html types instead of jspx? I found that the redirection worked by appending the jspx reference with '/faces/Login.jspx'. The problem seemed to have been somewhere else.
    If we have any Webcenter Composer / Security gurus out there, help would be greatly appreciated.
    Our main goal is to create a Webcenter App which has security/composer/navigation and a catalog with WCM/Siebel portlets similar to the Avitek demo without using WC Spaces.
    Thanks.
    Thanks.

    When you want to achieve this you need to configure ADF security with basic authentication & authorization. THe authorization is the part that takes care of what a user may and may not do in an application. Authentication is just the log in part.
    When you have configured your application for authorization as well, you have to create roles and groups.
    You will also have to set the authorization of your pages. Open a jsxp and in the design or source view, right click and "edit authorization". You then have to add roles to your pages and define their rights. Then you can set the authorization for edit,cuustomize,personlise,view,...
    Hope this helps.

    Hi, Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to use jsf with weblogic server 6.1 and wlintegration 2.1 I tried to deploy the samples provided with jwsdp-1.2 When I start the guess number sample I get the following error message:
    Duke's number: 3

    :27), etc.
    I updated the web.xml file, created the faces directory under my examplesWebApp active domain with the jsp files, it finds the UserNumberBean class but it still crashes with the above.
    One problem I was having while deploying it that Weblogic Server did not allow me to copy jsf-api.jar, jstl.jar,etc under web-inf/lib.
    So I added all required jar files under bea root/config/samples/lib and updated startWeblogic.cmd
    Please help with how to deploy correctly the samples:

    Thanks bill.
    I checked my weblogic server 6.1,it limited to j2ee1.2 features only.So I changed it supporting j2ee1.3 features.Now my JSF example is working normally.
    But I found a new question soon.
    I writed some letter in Chinese in jsp page .And I got some errors in weblogic.

  • Authorization with JAAS in JSF with facelets

    hi,
    can u please hint me where i did mistake.. i clearly mention what i did and what i getting ..i did this in jsf1.2,tomcat6.x
    i did JAAS authentication in jsf with facelets.but i am unable to do the authorization with JAAS in jsf
    after getting authentication i put the subject in session. if i print the values in suject i got the following out put
    Subject:
    Principal: TypedPrincipal: hari [USER] // user name
    Principal: TypedPrincipal: admin [GROUP] // user role.
    now i want to authorization based on the role.
    for this i wrote policy file --principal.policy like this
    grant Principal com.alw.reports.jaas.TypedPrincipal "admin" {
        permission com.alw.reports.jaas.ViewIdPermission "*";
    grant Principal com.alw.reports.jaas.TypedPrincipal "hari" {
        permission com.alw.reports.jaas.ViewIdPermission "*";
    grant Principal com.alw.reports.jaas.TypedPrincipal "user" {
        permission com.alw.reports.jaas.ViewIdPermission "/contents.jsp";
    };and i set the path for this policy file like
                  System.setProperty("java.security.policy", "policy file location" );when i run my application i am getting login page after that i gave username and passwed. it is getting authentication .. but not able to displaying next page that is /pages/welcome.xhtml but directly it is showin /pages/error.xhtml
    i am getting following error

    My doubt is based on that subject , how to write policy file and how to call doAsPrivileged() mehod on that Subject in order to navigate web pages.how to provide web pages permission for particular role in policy file..
    For example i have three pages login.xhtml,user.xhtml,admin.xhtml.
    1> if the logged in person is admin, then we want to display admin.xhtml
    2> if the loggend is person is user , then we want to display user.xhtml
    untill now i did and found who is logged in and what are his type( admin or user) .now i want configure the web.xml and faces-config.xml based on policy fileTo the best of my knowledge, there is nothing in the standard NavigationHandler which accounts for JAAS security. If you wanted, you could create a custom NavigationHandler to do this. If you think the idea is worthy enough, you could issue an enhancement request to the specification ([https://javaserverfaces-spec-public.dev.java.net/]).

  • UIX and hGrid Component with BC4J support

    Hi!
    I heard, that UIX Developer Team developing hGrid component with BC4J support. Does anyone know when it's ready?
    Thanks

    I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but the uix bc4j tags have been deprecated in favor of ADF, so there will not be a uix bc4j hgrid tag. For 10g production there will be an hgrid in the data binding palette.

  • Airport Extreme Utility problem with Vista (works with XP, MacOS)

    Hi,
    I just setup a new Airport Extreme network at my house, and most things are working fine. I have wirelessly connected at various points an Airport Express (using WDS), a MacBook Pro (OSX) and an IBM Thinkpad. I have several wired machines as well.
    My problem: The wired machine I use to configure and setup everything is a Vista Ultimate machine. Unfortunately, the Airport Utility won't connect to the Airport Extreme (or Airport Express for that matter) from Vista. The utility works fine from XP or OSX, but not from Vista. Note that I'm using this in a wired capacity. The Vista machine is directly connected to the Airport Extreme, while several other machine are connected through a GBit switch.
    Any help would be much appreciated? Is this a Vista security problem or an Airport Utility problem with Vista?

    It's most likely a security issue with Windows Vista. Vista has the ability to set "compatibility modes" for applications.
    Try:
    1. right mouse clicking the Airport Utility's .exe file.
    2. Click the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
    3. Now go down to "Privilage Level" and check the "Run this program as an administrator"
    Apple never tells you this but you must connect to the Airport Extreme wirelessly. Now run the Airport Utility. You should see it.

  • Problems with refreshing a adf table

    Hi,
    i am using jdeveloper 11 with the new adf framework.
    I use a table which i bind to an arraylist. works fine. the table shows the data from the list.
    at sometime i change the backing arraylist but the table show (only in the section i saw on the screen) the old data, when i scroll down the new data is shown.
    so i know the arraylist holds the new data and the binding is ok but the refresh of the table doesnt work in the section i see....
    hope you understand my problem
    hannes

    Hi,
    As far as I understand , you are not clearing the previous or old data. This results in your table showing the new data towards the end.
    If you are using something like this : List tableRows = new ArrayList(); to populate the data in the table , ensure that you clear this list everytime you method runs
    You can do this by : tableRows.clear()

  • [URGENT] Performance problem with BC4J and partioned data

    Hi all,
    I have a big performance probelm with BC4J and partitioned data. As as partitioned table shouldn't have a primary key like a sequence (or something else) my partitioned table doesn't have any primary key.
    When I debug my BC4J application I can see a message showing me "ignoring row with no primary key" from EntityCache. It takes a long time to retrieve my data even if I use the partition keys. A quick & dirty forms application was multiple times faster!
    Is this a bug in BC4J, or is BC4J not suitable for partitioned data? Can anyone give me a hint what to do, do make the BC4J application fast even with partitioned data? In a non-partitioned environment the application works quite well. So it seams that it must be an "error" somewhere in this part.
    Thanks,
    Axel

    We moved to native JDBC with our application and the performance is like we never expected to be!

  • HELP: include another page in with JDeveloper and ADF

    Hi all,
    I am trying to make a layout page with JDeveloper and ADF. But I just can't make things work. I have the pre-coded header and footer html pages and want to include them in a jspx somehow. I tried panelPage too, but the rendering style is away from our pre-coded header and footer.
    1. Use jsp:include.
    header works fine but footer is rendered before the page content, even if the footer is placed after the page content. Is there a way to customize the position?
    <f:facet name="footerFacet">
    <f:subview id="footerView"
    binding="#{backing_welcomePage.footerView}">
    <jsp:include page="/footer.jspf"/>
    </f:subview>
    </f:facet>
    2. Use frameBorderLayout.
    I followed the doc and use the document tag. But the frame page is rendered but none of included pages are rendered. So I got a blank page.
    <!-- frame page -->
    <f:view>
    <afh:html>
    <afh:head title="my frame page">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
    content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"/>
    </afh:head>
    <afh:body>
    <afh:frameBorderLayout height="100%" width="100%">
    <f:facet name="center">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" name="topPage3"/>
    </f:facet>
    <f:facet name="top">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" height="200" name="topPage2"/>
    </f:facet>
    <f:facet name="bottom">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" height="200" name="topPage1"/>
    </f:facet>
    </afh:frameBorderLayout>
    </afh:body>
    </afh:html>
    </f:view>

    </af:panelGroup>
    </af:form>
    </af:document>
    </f:view>

    for #1 have you tried throwing a verbatim tag around your includes like:
    <f:verbatim>
    <jsp:directive.include file="/includes/footer.jsp"/>
    </f:verbatim>
    it's how we got around intermixing html and jsf
