V$sqlarea.buffer_gets and v$sqlarea.sorts

What exactly the meaning of the fields ?
What conclusion I can get from higher result ?
v$sqlarea.buffer_gets
v$sqlarea.sorts
I seek for more knowledge and deep understanding then the table description
BUFFER_GETS NUMBER Sum of buffer gets over all child cursors
SORTS NUMBER Sum of the number of sorts that were done for all the child cursors
Thanks

No, the count is a total count that has happened. See below, I have an 11g (11106) db started and I fired up the query from scott for some data. You can see the counts are increasing all the time.

So you can't really say that the number can be reduced looking at the number from this view. You need to make the data access lesser so that the number of blocks touched are lesser.

• No repeated values and in ascendant sort

Hi all,
I'm trying to put this:
SELECT DISTINCT month FROM Concert ORDER BY month ASC;
(no repeated values and in ascendant sort) into EJB-QL. This is what I've worked out:
SELECT DISTINCT OBJECT(o)
FROM Concert AS o
ORDER BY o.month ASC
(month is a field in the bean )
But this (and several tries later) doesn't work.
What's wrong with it??
The query is for a findAll method -without- input parameters which returns a collection, is here the error??? If so, how can I solve it?
I'm totally lost and frustrated, I'd really appreciate some light
Thanks a lot in advance

• Windows 7 and 8 are sorting Arabic Characters wrong

The Arabic character A is comming on many differient shapes
A without hamza
A with hamza on top
A with hamza under
A with hamza on waw
A with hamza on nabra
A with hamza on alef mqsoora
A With madda
But all of them are considered as "A" and always on top of the sort on windows XP
Lately - on windows 7 and 8 the sort is not right -
hamza on waw is considered as waw
hamza on nabra is considered as yaa
So, names like Loay and We-aam are sorted badely
I have more than one million names to be sorted
The following is win Xp correct sort
لؤي
لئي
لبي
ليي
The following is win7 and 8 wrong sort
لبي
لؤي
ليي
لئي
Both sort are done on excell 2007
Is there a solution

Many thanks for your comment
Sory I thought this is for project application
This sort problem I noticed during developping a VB project.
This project is for more than 1,000,000 votes.
On win7 and 8, when Listbox.sort property equals SORT then sort problem appears
On win Xp, when Listbox.sort property equals SORT sorting is ok
Is (VB project) a (project application)
Should I move it or keep it here?

• No Method onSort and no actionBinding sort found

I built UIX page that contains a sortable read-only table. When I access it with my browser by name untitled.uix, then I can sort the table without any problems, but when I access it by Struts action untitled.do, then sort commands still work, but I get the following errors in my application errorlog:
No Method onSort and no actionBinding sort found
What can be the reason for this?

• Member and base level sorting after migration

Dear BPC Experts,
We are in process of migrating our environment from BPC 7.5 to BPC 10.
When we migrate reports/input schedules from BPC 7.5 to BPC 10, we have observed that the report does not show up the member and base level sorting correctly in the report.

You can use the browser (iTunes menu view > Browser) select a genre then sort by Album.

The unix commands you need are:
GetFileInfo
SetFileInfo
and maybe find
for cryptic details use the man command
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
man SetFileInfo
You may use the SetFileInfo command to set the file type & the program which will open the file.

• Buffer_gets and 'session logical reads'

When I compare the following values:
select sum(buffer_gets) from v$sqlarea
and
select value from v$sysstat where name='session logical reads'
it usually happens that sum(buffer_gets) > 'session logical reads'.
Does buffer_gets include logical and physical reads? As long as the SGA keeps all the SQL statments, I guess sum(buffer_gets) will be bigger than 'session logical reads'. Is this correct?
Thxs

Hi,
buffer gets = number of times a block was requested from buffer cache. A buffer get always request in a logical read. Depending on whether or not a copy of the block is available in the buffer cache, a logical read may or may not involve a physical read. So "buffer gets" and "logical reads" are basically synonyms and are often used interchangeably.
Oracle doesn't have a special "undo buffer". Undo blocks are stored in rollback segments in UNDO tablespace, and are managed in the same way data blocks are (they're even protected by redo). If a consistent get requires reading from UNDO tablespace, then statistics counters will show that, i.e. there will be one more consistent get in your autotrace.

• How do I get iTunes to keep "The and A and An" when sorting?

iTunes for Windows strips of "The" and "A" and "An" from the artist and album names when it is sorting. How do I get it to stop? I have 6,000 files that I've just imported and it is ordering them in completely the wrong way for me.
It lists "The Beatles" under "B" and I want it under "T" for "THE Beatles" and so on. I don't want to have to change these one by one obviously because there are too many. I would like to select an option that leaves the full titles alone when sorting.
How can I do this?

Over 6000 people have downladed the script to get around this after a fashion. Is it still required?

• Report: sorting of data and temporary table sorting

We have a report that runs a procedure, which inserts data into a temporary table using the supplied parameters. The report then selects data from this table.
Previously the report has always displayed data in the same order in which it was inserted into the table, even though no sorting is specified by the report itself. I realize that the report itself ought to specify the sorting in order to guarantee it, but this has worked in the past.
As part of an application/Oracle upgrade the report has been recompiled. Data is now displayed in a different order as before. However, each time we run it now, it IS the same (new) sorting. So it's still consistent, but consistent in a different way than before.
Is there some way to go back to the old sorting (display in same order as inserted into table) - without having to re-code this (and all the other) reports in order to specify the sorting? We think that data is still inserted into the temporary table in the same order as before. We are using the same version of Crystal Reports.
Edited by: user489847 on May 31, 2010 4:01 AM

Crystal Reports. This is the Oracle Reports forum.
Anyway, I have seen this in one of our applications too. Suddenly the ordering was different, because there was no explicit order by. There is never a guarantee of the ordering if you do not specify it.
You should ask this in the database forum too, since this is not really Reports related.

• I cannot open my itunes. I keep getting a message saying "The file 'i Tunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"? Anybody else had this problem since downloading the latest version and how to sort it?

Anybody any ideas?

Never mind sorted it out lol. Somebody did a system restore of a week or so. I had done the update during that time and it was lost. Just redownloaded itunes from the internet and its working fine now.

• Sales and Purchase analysis, sort by date default

Hello,
Is there a way to default the sales and purchase analysis reports to show the most recent orders first vs. the oldest orders first in the list? I am refering to the reports that appear when you are in Item Master Data, and then click on the graphs in the Sales Data and Purchasing data tabs.
Thank you

Hi,
You may double click the column header to change the sort.

• Use drag and drop to sort data in report

Hello!
I found a good description to sort data in a Tabular Form per drag and drop.

Here is the url: Read Article - Drag & Drop tabular form rows
It works fine if one follow the hint from Baki (For apex 4.2 one have to adapt a css class).
Afterwards I tried the same with an Interactive Report. It nearly works.
I once again had to adapt a css class.
I used the
apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA
class instead of the
uReportStandard
in the JavaScript for the Interactive Report.
Everything went fine. Except the "Save the Thing to the DB" issiu did not work.
The following code do not work (the "APEX_APPLICATION.G_FROWID.COUNT" is allways 0):
FOR i IN 1 .. APEX_APPLICATION.G_FROWID.COUNT
LOOP
UPDATE emp SET sort_order = i WHERE rowid = APEX_APPLICATION.G_FROWID(i);
END LOOP;
Does anybody know why?
Best thanks,
Ilb
