Vacation accrual balance question

Hi,
We have a requirement to show accruals in days but the absence hours can be multiples of 4. For that, I have defined absence element with input as hours and accrual plan with units as hours. This is working fine but the vacation net entitlement is shown in hours. Is there a way to enter absences in multiples of 4 but show final entitlement in days?
Another question is, is there a way to default normal hours to all employees as 08:00 to 17:00? If I am entering absence from 28-Nov-2012 08:00 to 29-Nov-2012 12:00, the system is calculating it as 28 hours instead of 12 hours. If I enter normal hours in employees assignment as 08:00 to 17:00, then the formula is calculating it as 12 hours. so I want to default the normal hours to all the employees without having to update the formula.

Hi Jay,
#1. If you enter the Absences in Hours, the entitlement will also be shown in hours (Unless you create a custom form and use custom code to deduce the days).
Another way is to define the absences in Days, and use 1/2 day (0.5 day) instead of 4 hours.
#2. You can default the starting, ending times and hours worked at the Business Group level or HR-ORG level. This would default the hours on all person-assignments.
Absences are calculated based on -
-Work Schedules
-Work Patterns
-Standard working hours on Assignment form
in the same order depending on profiles - HR: Schedule Based Absence Calculation etc..

6) It creates 4 elements , and I amattaching the recurring plan element to the employee
7) when i navigate SSHR, give the employee annual leave and click on balance tab its just calculating as per bands that is 20/12 per month and if i give any absence in between its not calculating in increasing order going to zero or negative.

Hi Avneesh, I did not get exactly what your question is....
If employee is inbtween accrual bands of 0-5 years he is eligible for 15 days of annual leave....
and the balance reset is on 1st jan ....
so If I see the absence balance window, every month its calculting 15/12=1.25 at the end of each month..and dec 31st its 15th days....its intended behavior.
now when I take absence of 15 days withn a month....its not calculating anything still going with basic calulation, the balances are not getting negative neither zero.

View Vacation/Sick Balances on Time Entry Page

Hi All ,
I am trying to explore the possibility to view Vacation / Sick Balances on the Time Entry Page in OTL . Whenever an employee enters OTL to enter time through "Self Service Time" responsibility , emp. should be able to view the available vacation / sick balances .

Accrual Balance not getting carried over

For one of my client's employees, the mid-year accrual balance is not getting carried over.
08-JUL-2008 is the hire date of the employee. The client has end-dated the accrual plan element entry for this employee on 23-NOV-2009 and created a new one (for the same accrual plan) from 24-NOV-2009. The balance is getting carried over from 2008 to 23-NOV-2009, but NOT from 24-NOV-2009 to 31-DEC-2009.
08-JUL-2008 TO 31-DEC-2008 - Accrual Balance is 19.828 days.
01-JAN-2009 TO 23-NOV-2009 - Accrual Balance carried over from 2008 is 19.828 days.
24-NOV-2009 TO 31-DEC-2009 - Zero Accrual Balance is getting carried over.
Also, the client has run the PTO Carry Over process thru’ out for all the years. But no help there.
I just noticed that the accrual plan 'Annual Leave Plan 41 Days' and the respective balances, elements, links etc., were created in the system on 19-DEC-2009. Could this be the reason why the net entitlement balance is not getting carried over to 2009?
Would appreciate any pointers in this regard.

Hi,
Are you running the carryover process for both the plans. Can you share the accrual carry over for the new plan. As you have said the elements and links are created as on 19-DEC-2009, the balance should be carried over for the days between 19-DEC-2009 to 31-DEC-2009 if you are doing the partial accrual.

How to get Leave Accrual Balance in Report

We can see the accrual balance on SSHR page as well as on Fastpath-> Accruals -> Net Entitlement.
But I want to display a report which will display all accruals as on a aprticular date.
Can we get that? Is there any seeded funnction/procedure?

To develop a report you will need help of a technical consultant in your team. You can use XML Publisher to develope your report, what Vigneshwar has provided you is the function which you/technical guy can use to easilt get the balance value as of any date.
As a function person get the Report defination signed of from business users and share the requirments with the technical team. If you are interested to develop the report on you own then please refer the site which will give you the basics of developing an XML publisher report:

Accrual Balance is not getting for particular leave

on 11.5.10.2
we have defined four leave in leave management system but on of the leave is not working properly in regards of getting accrual balance while using this function "per_accrual_calc_functions.get_net_accrual", although all plan getting balance but except one is not do this, how can we diagnose the problem for particular leave.
Could you please advice.

What is the problem? Is the leave balance zero when you don't expect it to be? Is the leave balance non-zero but calculating the wrong value? Or are you receiving an error message?
Please provide as much detail as possible.

SO Load Balancing Question

Hi all,
I have a service object (SO1) which has been set to Load Balancing.
This service object has an attribute which serves as a number allocator
(NA1).
This NA1 provides a unique number across the whole application for each of
the record that require to store into DB.
The problem is, will the NA1 get replicated if the SO1 is replicated?
If yes, will NA1 crash?

Something like will be very safe. The Database Index Table is taking care
of the critical section. Then you can be sure that each replicate can be
independent (not hit into each other) for 5000 iterations. Depending on the
frequency, you may want to up this number or lower this number. Too high it
would make the key very high very soon with wholes in the sequence. Too low
and you would have hit between the replicates. Try to make it so that the
load balanced partitions don't need to access the database more than one in
5 min. to get a new Seed Key. This would not need to PID.

You have a service object that keep a handle to an object that either keep
state information, or that generate state information. Now the thing to
figure out is which is it. Let's assume that NA1 is a number generator,
that does not need to be synchronized or that doesn't need to access any
external resource. It would still work, depending on the algorythm you are
using.
Will they share the same NA1? It depends on the nature of NA1, but for sure
NA1 would have to be an anchored object. An if multiple partitions would
share the same object "only" for key generation, you would bring down your
performance on key generation or key update (by adding one inter-process
call).
In short:
1. Many scenarios can happen, you need to be clearer on your description.
2. If you are sharing an object by load balanced partitions, this greatly
reduce the gain of load balancing the partition.
3. If NA1 is keeping state, any access to it would need to be controlled
"shared".

Accrual Balance Issue

I need a urgent help creating the net entitlement balance report
i have define a accrual balance formula. for 22 days plan per year. i have defined a element link with " Standard" check for grades from 1 to 9 so that accrual plan 22 days will be asigned automatically to the employees who has the grades 1 to 9. but now my clients wants this accraul plan will be assigned only to expatriates not for saudi nationals. for saudi nationals the accrual plan will 30 days. i have already ran 4 months payroll , system is allowing to assigned 30 days accraul plan element to the employees. so i changed the accrual plan 22 days formula.
i have set a nationality check condition in the formula like this

Accrual Balance Dialy Rate

Dears,
I have a case related to Accrual Balance R12.1.3, as following:
1- We have a rule that says:
Years Of Service: 5 (+) Years
Accrual Balance: 21
Dialy Rate : 21/365
Years Of Service: Lesss than 5 years
Accrual Balance: 14
Dialy Rate : 14/365
2- suppose that Employee (X) hire date is : 05-MAR-2008,
the Accrual Rate for 2013 should be:
01-jan-2013 up to 04-mar-2013 = 14/365 --> Less than 5 years
05-mar-2013 up to 31-dec-2013 = 21/365 --> 5(+) Years
How to achieve this requirement.

Hi,
The accrual balances for each employee or not stores anywhere unless you are using payroll balances in your plan to store the balances. In OTL the values are dynamically generated calling your arrual formula whenever you open the page.

Load Balancing question

My company is in the process of building a small scale network architecture strictly for testing purposes. We have a DMZ area that contains 2 load balancers and 1 web server. The web server is a SunFire 280 and has two gig e nics. They want to cable one nic to one load balancer and one nic to the other. Since this is only one box we have to put the nics on separate subnets. The question is, can I configure the load balancers in a failover situation of an active active situation with one load balancer on one vlan and another load balancer on a separate vlan.

I did not able to understand why you want to give ip to two NICs from different subnets.
There is NO any requirement, like that. If you have your own requirement can you explain me that?

IOS SLB Loab Balance Questions

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum but it was the closest one I found relating to my issue.
I've trying to load balance four of our radius servers using IOS SLB. The config works well and the radius servers are accepting requests fine. I follow this article which wasn't too bad to follow:

My two questions are:
1. Sticky Option
I understand it's used to make sure the client's accounting information
goes to the correct real server, but I'm not sure how it really works
and what's the best time to set it to.
Eg:

a/ The documentation says "This configuraion causes the sticky database to store its entries for 86,400 seconds of inactivity". What do they mean by "inactivity" - no radius packets coming through? inactivity from the user's end?
b/ It also says "the client's IP address is added to the IOS SLB database..." - is this the client's framed IP that the ISP assigns to the customer???
c/ And what would be the optimum time to set the sticky timer to be?

When you disconnect, the slb stats still show you as being connected to
the real server (and both udp ports) which isn't very accurate. There is a default "delay" time which handles TCP disconnections and after being disconnected for 10 sec, the SLB stats are updated to reflect this (I've verified this works)- but nothing about how it handles UDP disconnections??? This
would skew the stats and give us a very bad misrepresentation of the
number of current and valid connections. Is there anyway to correct this???

Inactivity for IOS SLB means that after specified time of inactivity, the client will be free to be load balanced to another server. As long as they remain active without an idle time , they will remain connected to the same real server. For the client's IP address which is added to the IOS SLB database I think it is the frammed IP address which the ISP assigns. The optimum time for the sticky timer will be its default value or say 60 seconds.

CSS load balancing questions

I hope that someone can help with 2 simple (i think) CSS questions.
1. When configured properly for load balancing, should the CSS round-robin between servers or will it continue to use only one server until triggered by some event or parameter?
2. If 1 of 2 load balanced servers fails, how does load balancing proceed? Will it continue to try to load balance between the servers or will it give up on the failed server unitil some event or timeout occurs?

Hi Eliot,
The CSS can be configured to perform load balancing in a variety of different ways. Least connections, round robin, ACA etc. Each new connection through the CSS will be round robined over each of the servers in your server group.
If a server fails then the CSS will know it has failed through the use of keepalives (based on TCP connection, ICMP etc) and no longer send requests through to that server. Traffic associated with a previous connection to the failed server will be sent to on of the surviving servers. It is then up to the behavior of the application as to if the user experiences any disruption.

Clustering problems and load balancing question

          I am using Weblogic 6.1. My Windows NT environment consists of 10 web client-simulator
          machines, 2 App. Server machines and one database server machine. I have defined
          one cluster on each app. server. Each cluster is running 3 Weblogic instances, or
          so it should be when I fix my problems!
          My questions/problems are the following:
          1. Can I use a software dispatcher to perform workload balancing between the 2 weblogic
          clusters? That is, the client-simulator machines send the requests to the software
          dispatcher which performs workload balancing between the 2 Weblogic clusters. The
          clusters perform round-robin amongst all instances. Note that the documentation only
          talks about Hardware Balancing.
          2. I am having problems with my multicast IP addresses. For instance, on one App.
          Server machine, I am using the multicast IP address: 239.0.0.1 for MyCluster. When
          I start the Admin Server, I get a JDBC error: "... multicast socket error: Request
          Time Out". I have used the utils.MulticastTest utility which shows the packets not
          being received:
          I (S1) sent message num 1
          I (S1) sent message num 2
          I (S1) sent message num 3
          I (S1) sent message num 4
          What am I doing wrong?
          3. Re. the cluster configuration:
          NOTE: I have executed my workload using 2 independent App. Server machines with a
          software dispatcher - no clustering. Each App. Server used a jdbc connection pool
          of 84 database connections. The db connections happened to become my bottleneck.
          When I tried to increase the number of connections in the jdbc pool, throughput decreased
          dramatically. Thus, I decided to add a cluster of Weblogic instances to each one
          of my 8 x 900Mhz machines in order to scale up. Unfortunatly, adding clusters have
          not been that simple a task - probably because I am totally new to the Web Application
          Server world!
          Here is what I've got so far:
          I have obtained 3 static IP addresses for the 3 instances of Weblogic instances that
          I wish to run within the cluster. All servers in the cluster use port number 80.
          There is a corresponding DNS entry for each IP address. My base assumption is that
          one of these instances will double up as the Administration Server... Is it true,
          or do I need to define a separate Admin server if I wish to run 3 Weblogic instances
          (each with a connection pool of 84 database connections for a total of 252 database

          Do I need to re-deploy my applications for the cluster? And if so, would this explain
          why I am having problem starting my Admin Server?

          The software dispatcher should be intelligent enough to decode the
          cookie and route the request to the appropriate servers. This is
          necessary to maintain sticky load balancing.

          maxCapacity of the conn pool accordingly.

          BEA recommends to use Admin server for administrative tasks only
          like configuring new deployments, jdbc conn pools, adding users etc..
          It's not a good idea to have admin server part of cluster.

Office Web App Load balancing Question

I am going to install office web app in load balanced farm behing f5. There are few questions i want to ask:
Do i first put servers in load balancer and start installing office web app or after installation of office web app in one server put that in load balancer and add another one or put both in load balancer and start installing.
While i tried without putting servers in load balancer with offload ssl parameter , when i tried to join second server in the farm it gave me error destination unreachable. Is it because with offload ssl parameter it is looking for load balancer or something
else? I checked port 809 from the servers and also verified the user was local admin in both machines.
Any insight will be helpful.
