Validate and warn user to fill a mandatory field in a PDF form

Below is a basic example of how you can assit your form users, by reminding them to fill the mandatory fields. This condition can be applied at various events like, printing, submitting, while filling form, etc. In the following example, validation is triggered when the user leaves the form field.
If a user clicks within the field and moves on without filling it, the following warning shows up.

Hello,
I received a form in PDF format that has fields to be filled in.
I coulld not type in the fields in my computer that has Win 7 or in my Mac Book Air that has Snow Leopard.
The pdf form protection -> Security Properties-> has "filling of Form Filelds" as -> Allowed.

Are you sure those are real fields, and not just graphic elements that looks like fields?
At any rate, if they are fields but they are locked, for example, then there's nothing you can do. You need Acrobat to unlock them.

Javascript to fill text field from other PDF form

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to add javascript to a text field that when initiated pulls text from another field in a closed pdf in the same directory.
For example I have a NAME field in the pdf form I am working in....
When I initiate the script the NAME field is filled in with the same data from another PDF that is closed.

I have looked up the 'disclosed' property and it looks like that is what I want to do..
I have "this.disclosed = true" in a PDF with the name field. On the other PDF that I want the information replicated I am going to add a javascript to an action somewhere on the document, my problem is which script do I use to get this data from the other pdf? Is the pdf that is now accessible via javascript (disclosed) a data object?

How do I auto fill a date field for an Adobe form?

Hi. I am new to Acrobat. I would like to have Acrobat auto fill today's date in a date field when I open an acrobat form. I check the forum help and it indicated that I associate this javascript text to the field:
var f = this.getField("Today"); if (f.valueAsString=="") f.value = util.printd("mm/dd/yyyy", new Date());
However, when I try it out, nothing happens.
Any clue as to what I am doing wrong?

Is there a text field in the PDF labeled "Today" and set as a date field? And does the Date Options format set for the field match what is in the JavaScript (mm/dd/yyyy)?

How to fill in fields in a PDF form? I have downloaded the Adobe Reader x 10.0.1.

I have the Adobe Reader x 10.0.1. Free version.
I downloaded a PDF form and open the document but cannot fill in any of the fields. With the form opened I look at File/Properties/security which shows "Filling of the form fields": Allowed.
I do not find "Typewriter" under view.
How can I type in to fill the fields

I am making a form with text fields and the end user would like the ability to make something bold or underline it.. I do not see anywhere in acrobat that allows styles to be changed.

The only Flash Player that is remotely connected to Adobe Reader is the plugin.

The pre filled fields from downloaded pdf forms are blank; e.g.; prefilled pdf forms from insurance companies.

I download pre filled pdf claim forms from the web site of my insurance company. The fields are not pre filled with my personnal data ( name, address, etc) like it is supposed to. Furthermore, I cannot even type my own data in the blank fields. All of this works all right with another browser.

The new built-in PDF viewer does not have the capability to do fill-in forms. Development is still underway on enhancements to the PDF viewer.
In the meantime, you will need a PDF application that can do fill-in forms (Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader are 2 free PDF applications that can fill-in PDF forms).

'time keyboard' in iOS when filling in a time in a PDF form

Hello,
Adobe reader for iOS is a great and powerful tool to fill in PDF forms.
When there is a fillable text field with properties of a date (on iOS), you'll see the keyboard changes in a layout divided in 3 parts, one with numbers till 31, one for the month, and the year as last.
I was wondering if this was also possible for fields that has the property of a time. just like the agenda of iOS.

The current version of Reader for iOS does not support text fields with the time property yet. But it is on our feature ToDo list. We hope to provide the support in a future release of Reader for iOS/Android.

How to use FMS to activate mandatory fields on standard SBO forms

Hi all,
My client wants to force its users to enter a "Customer Ref. No." value when they create a Sales Order.
If they do not fill this field and they press ADD button to create the order, they would like the system to issue a custom error of type "please enter a customer ref number", before the order is created.
Is it possible to do this without SDK? I tried with formatted search but could not make this field mandatory (with RAISEERROR command). Is there any other solution for this?

Can you copy multiple fields in a pdf form and paste them elsewhere?

I have created forms in Adobe Standard 9 and have posted them on our company intranet for users to access. All the forms work well, but one group would like to be able to copy and paste the form data into our call tracking software for future reference. It can be achieved now by copying and pasting each field one at a time. My question is there a way to copy more than one field at a time and paste the data elsewhere as even simple text, no font recognition required.

Thanx graffiti, you're right that Adobe 9 Standard had that option and it saves it as a seperate .txt file. and you can cut and paste from there. What I was hoping for was a Reader 7, 8 or 9 copy and paste solution, like the Adode version of "shift + c" to choose and add individual cells in Excel.
Any tricks of shortcuts would be appreciated.

Do I need to use javascript to get a text field in a PDF form to aut fill with current/today's date?

I have a form for booking appointments and would like the date field to automatically fill with
today's date and to print. I have set the text field's format to "Date" and when I place the cursor into the
date field, today's date shows. It disappears as soon as I tab to the next field.
Does this action require a javascript script to fill and print today's date? If so, where do I find that?
Or is there another way to format the text field (besides typing today's date) to get the current date?

From the examples by Chris Dahl, I edited the script in the text field editing dialog to reflect the title I had given the field. That fixed the problem of today's date disappearing as soon as I tabbed to the next field.
How do I choose for document level or page open script? I would like it to insert the date upon opening the document.

Allow user to fill in a fillable pdf but disallow adding comments and annotation

Hi there. I have a fillable pdf created by livecycle designer. I want to let users fill in the form but prevant them adding comments and annotatons to the form. I cannot reset the above requirements in form property - form security if I have already set a password and allowed user to fill in the form. Can I user javascript to that effect during the document loading?

Hi,
If you save the form as a Dynamic XML Form in the save-as dialogue, then the user will not be able to apply comments. They can only do this in flat or static PDF forms.
