Validating a text field

Hi guys,
My apex version is 3.2 and I am trying to validate a text field to make the user type only English letters and I am using PL/SQL expression:
REGEXP_LIKE(:P6_EMP_FAMILY_NAME,'[a-z,A-Z]$')That prevents the user from typing Arabic letters or Numbers in the text field. The thing is it works but some time it doesn't for example:
1- If the user types Numbers or Arabic letters inside the text : XXXXX11234XXXX it doesn't work.
2- If the user types Numbers or Arabic letters at the beginning of the text: *1234XXXXXX* it doesn't work
Other that that it do
Am I doing something wrong?
Please help
Thank You

I'm trying to add NOT NULL condition in the code i tried:
IF :P6_EMP_FAMILY_NAME IS NOT NULL THEN
EGEXP_LIKE(:P6_EMP_FAMILY_NAME,'^[a-zA-Z]*$');
END IF;it seems that this is not working.
where did missed up.
Thank You

fixed that you can add a condition the validation without tempering with the code didn't see that :)
Thank You

  • Validation for text field: Null and contains no spaces

    Currently on APEX 3.2
    I want to check 1 text field and 2 text areas to ensure they are not null and blank (hitting the space bar in the field) before submitting the page. How do I do both validations for on each field?

    I created a validation with a type of 'Function Returning Boolean' and using the following code in the expression:
    IF( TRIM( :P1_Text_Field) IS NULL
    Or LTRIM( :P1_Text_Field ) != :P1_Text_Field )
    THEN
    RETURN false;
    ELSE
    RETURN true;
    END IF;

    Hi All, Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your profile with a real handle instead of "940648".
    When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
    <li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Template(s)
    <li>Region/item type(s) (making particular distinction as to whether a "report" is a standard report, an interactive report, or in fact an "updateable report" (i.e. a tabular form)
    With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.

  • Validating a text field that has date in the format mm/dd/yyyy

    How can I validate a text field such that it should be in the format mm/dd/yyyy and it should not be greater that a particular date.
    for example the date I enter should not be greater than 01/01/2007

    What you can do is use the SimpleDateFormat class to try and parse the text date into a Date object like this:
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");
    Date mydate = sdf.parse(textdate);if that fails than the date has the wrong format (you'll get a ParseException if I'm not mistaken).
    The next step is to create a Date for 1/1/2007 and then do a date compare between your two dates. You can create a date yourself using the Calendar class.

    I tried using the below in the field validation which did not work.
    (0+Right([<ExternalSystemId>],2)) > 0 AND (0+Right([<ExternalSystemId>],2)) < 99.

  • How do I clear a form text field during validation using JavaScript?

    I am just learning JavaScript and the Acrobat API.  I have a form created in adobe acrobat 9 standard (starting from an existing form in MS Excel).  There is a text field for a Social Security Number.  I have a custom format script and keystroke script and a custom validation script. I would like to add to the existing validation script, that if what is entered doesn't match the validation test, then clear out the field as in erase all the characters that were typed into the field.  I want this to happen no matter what.  So even if someone filled in a valid SSN number and then moved to the next field, but then went back to the SSN field and decided to change their entry and this new entry was "invalid" then clear out the field (do not revert to what was typed in the field originally, even though it was considered valid by the script).  (There is currently no default value for this field.)  Thank you inadvance for you help on this.
    Here is the current validation script:
    // only run when field not blank
    if (event.value != "")
    // RegExp for validation #########
    var re = /^(\d{3})(\d{2})(\d{4})$/
    if(re.test(event.value) == false)
    app.alert("Enter a 9-digit Social Security number with no spaces or special characters (e.g., 555555555). It will be converted to the format 555-55-5555.")
         //Here is where I've tried adding all of these lines, but none of them will clear out what is in the field
              //this.resetForm([event.target.name]);
              //event.target.value == "";
              //getField("SSN 1").value = getField("SSN 1").defaultValue;
              //getField("SSN 1").value == "";
              //event.rc = false;
    And incase these are somehow affecting it, here are the other scripts being processed on this field:
    Keystroke script:
    var input=event.value;
    var chars=input.length;
    if( event.willCommit || chars==8 )this.getField("Name 1").setFocus();
    Format script:
    var re = /^(\d{3})(\d{2})(\d{4})$/
    if(re.test(event.value) == true)
    // add "-"
    event.value = RegExp.$1 + "-" + RegExp.$2 + "-" + RegExp.$3;

    Thank you very much.  I did try that before, but I was using event.value == "";  I guess in this case I'm assigning the value of "", not making the value equal "".

    I have a table with two columns.  I can easily insert a spry validated text field into the left cell but when I drag the box over so that box is in the right column and the label is still in the left column then that breaks the widget.
    Is this even possible for me to do or do I have to put the widget in just one column?

  • Text field spry validation over 2 table cells?

    I'm not getting your requirement clearly, by my understanding ... you need to retrieve database whenever a <select> field trigger "onchange" - am I right?
    If that is your requirement, it depends on what kind of solution you are looking into?
    1. AJAX+Servlet (dojo/jMaki/write your own)
    2. Java Server Faces (MyFaces/JSF)
    3. write yourself a custom TAG (JSTL) to do the purpose (AJAX+Servlet/purely Servlet)
    4. purely JSTL
    5 purely Servlet
    (please "Google" them by appending "<select> <option>"/ "populate combobox")
    Personally I would recommend 1st or 3rd approach, even 2nd approach (MyFaces/JSF) is cool, but if your whole application is not written in JSF, no point to mixed the solutions.
    If you want to try Ajax+TAG approach, refer following:
    http://ajaxtags.sourceforge.net/
    If you wish to use MyFaces approach, please refer following:
    http://avatar21.superihost.com/index.php?entry=entry051020-163838
    A forth/fifth approach will be much browser-portable, but the amount of coding will be more.

  • Possible to change type of spry validation text field at run time?

    I am trying to record a date of death on a form, which obviously for live people might not require a value. I have a radio group (Yes/No) that specifies whether the fields associated with the date of death are visible (select for month, day and year).  For the year, I have it set to be an integer with a minimum and maximum value.  The selects have an invalid value of -1 set, with one item labeled "Select month" and "Select day" given the -1 value.
    When the "no" button is clicked, I want to make it so that submitting the form does not cause validation errors for the spry fields associated with the date of death.  I have successfully added onChange events to the select objects that call javascript, along the lines of spryselect1.invalidValue = -2.  I can also make it so that the text field representing the year of death is not forced to be required: sprytextfield1.isRequired = false.
    However, I'm having a hard time getting the "invalid format" validation to be canceled.  I have tried executing sprytextfield1.type = "none", since looking at the source code in SpryValidationTextField.js seems to indicate that the object's type property is important.  However, this doesn't work; I think that's because the type property is used to look up a validation function in an array when the object is constructed, and may not be referenced again after that.
    So, I'm looking for either:
    a property/method to call to effectively change the type OR
    information on whether reconstructing the variable with new options will work.  I am not sure if any event handlers registered during the object's original construction will still be fired even if I make the variable point to a new object.  I see a destroy function in the source code that might do what I want, but my Javascript knowledge isn't too great, so I don't know if that method needs to be called explicity or whether it happens implicitly when an object is garbage collected.
    Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.
    Ryan

  • Adobe Spry jQuery conflict in Text Field validation.

    I am using Adobe Spry for my form validation, and jQuery for hiding / showing elements on a page based on responses to questions.  jQuery works fine for this for me.  Where I am having a problem is using jQuery to take the value of one input and enter it into a second input text field with after adding a year to it.
    Adobe Spry is always validating the fields an enforcing the date to be in the correct format mm/dd/yyyy.
    jQuery will only work if I remove the script reference to SpryValidationTextField.js   it is 1.6.1 v.37
    Has anyone ever seen this and can help me. Everything works fine independently, but will not play together.
    Here is a link to the page on the site.

    What I would suggest is fixing your page first, it does not really validate and give some "nasty" errors:
