Vanilla dashboard prompt returns no values

Hi,
An existing simple dashboard prompt, which worked perfectly before, has now stopped returning any values for a text field from the time dimension, though other dimensions work normally on the same prompt.
The behaviour is that the prompt drops but never displays any values to select, clicking search gives similar lack of values.
Creating an analysis on the same dimension member shows that values exist, and functionality here seems entirely normal.
Recreating the dashboard prompt does not fix this, and certain other dimensions (though not all) also manifest this behaviour.
The version of OBIEE is 11.1.1.6.5
Anyone experienced this, have we run into a bug?
(Edit => Sorry - meant to add that identical repository and same OBIEE version installed on a local client does not manifest the same behaviour with identical looking data though different version of underlying database which in this case is sqlserver)
thanks for any help,
Robert.

Hi,
the client tried changing a repository setting that they had suspicions about by reloading a new version of the repository, this action would clear the caches would it not?

Robert.

Check your caching ... caching occurs on the browser, the Presentation Server, the BI Server and the Database.
Most likely if you are getting cached results you are seeing it in either the Presentation Server or the BI Server.
In the Presentation Server go to Settings -> Administration -> Manage Sessions and click 'close all cursors' then go back out to your dashboard and click the refresh button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. This flushes your Presenataion Server Cache.
In the Administration Tool open your RPD and go to Tools -> Manage Cache ... -> right click in the right pane and 'Select All', right click again and 'Purge...' this empties your BI Server Cache.

  • Dashboard prompt issue  (Restricting Values in drop down) ????

    Hi Friends,
In my report I have "days to start" column which list almost 10,000 values ranging from -1000 to 5000.
I need to create a prompt for this report on "Days to Start" column.
When I create a prompt on Days to start with Operator "Greater than" and Control "Drop Down List" it shows me all the values in Drop down.
I need only specific Values like 30, 60, 90, 180 which might not be in the "days to start" column.
If I select "SQL Result" what should be the SQL for that??
Is there any other way to solve this problem
    Aprreciate your help on this
    Thanks

You could make a table VALUES with 1 column and fill it with values like 30,60,90....then in sql you'd write SELECT * FROM VALUES....as simple as that
(of course, it'd have to be in RPD, and you'd need to expose it in Presentation layer)

Also, you could try this - it works for me - but it could be slower and you might want to figure out how to round it - also, it has to be a number or cast to number format
SELECT Table."Column"/30 saw_0 FROM "Subj Area" ORDER BY saw_0

  • Can I pass ID of the table instaed of value in dashboard prompts?

    HI,
Say, I have a table QUESTION which contains 2 columns: ID, DESCRIPTION.
    sample data:
    ID DESCRIPTION
    1 TEST
    2 TEST1
    3 TEST11
    4 TEST
Herer the DESCRIPTION is stored in the order they appear in a portal application
Please note that the value of ID 1 & 4 are lexically same
I now make DESCRIPTION column sorted on ID column in LOGICAL layer and use DESCRIPTION in my dashboard prompt, it will list :
    TEST
    TEST1
    TEST11
    TEST
but once I select any of the TEST value the results will be shown against both the TEST value, what I want is that if I choose the first TEST value I get the reults against it and when I choose the fourth TEST value I get the results against it only.
IS this feasible ? Can we pass ID instead of DESCRIPTION as filter ?
    Any other ideas are welcome.
    thanks

  • Changing 'All Column Values' in dashboard prompt

In OBIEE 11g, how to modify the dashboard prompt All label value? I do not want to change value in XML file , because it will impact all dashboard prompt value.
Is it there better method to implement this problem?
    For example:
In dashboard prompt-->edit -->options--->tick 'Include "All Column Values" choice in the list', so I can view '(All Column Values)' value in prompt. Customers want to changed this value, such as 'all values'. Is it possible? Thanks.

    Hi,
Can do it using Union All is prompt SQL and presentation variable in report.

  • OBIEE 10g Dashboard Prompt Multiple Values

A dashboard prompt is applied to filter on Regions, however the issue we're facing is that the region values show up multiple times (1000's). We want to show each value once and I read about 2 solutions:
    1) Apply a select distinct SQL on the prompt - This does not work for us since the region is also a key field in the drill down (region consists out of states), the drill down overrules the select distinct and the prompt still shows multiple values. Any ideas?
    2) Apply a cast to char on the dashboard prompt field - The values show up only once, however now the dashboard prompt does not get applied to the reports. Looking at the SQL nothing seems to come back from the database. This might have to do with the fact that the region data type in the business layer is VARCHAR with a max of 30, thoughts? I tried updating the cast to varchar(30) but that had no effect.
The cast sql is simple and looks like this:
SELECT CAST ("zzz"."Region" as char) FROM ...
Hopefully anyone can help us with this problem. Thanks!

    Thanks for the tips!
    1. No, it does not happen when the column is the only item in a report
2a. I updated the cast to a varchar and added the distinct because that seemed easier than changing the field types in the rpd. The new SQL looks like this:
    SELECT DISTINCT CAST("zzz.Region" AS varchar(10)) FROM ...
2b. Also joining to a table with extra region information (the sequence how we present the values to the customer) provided unique values:
Select "zzz.Region" FROM ... ORDER BY "zzz."Region Sequence"
With both solution we force OBIEE to execute the SQL differently so that the key field in the dimension does not throw off the numbers

  • How to cache columns that are dashboard prompts?

    Hi,
I have a few columns in a table that are defined as dashboard prompts. The values in a particular column in the dashboard prompt are constrained based on the value selected in the previous dashboard prompt. Once a user logs in he/she can see only the data based on his role.
How do I cache the dashboard prompt table (columns of which are defined as dashboard prompts) and the security table (which determines the user's role and finally determines the data level security) so the user does not have to wait too long for the landing page to show up once he logs in.
    Thanks for inputs.

  • Return a Range of Value from Dashboard Prompt

From example, 'Day' column has values from 1 to 365 and I set it as a dashboard prompt. If I want to select a range of value from 'Day', I can use 'is between' operator. Then I can select a range of day value from 1 to 365.
My additional requirement is to return a fixed range of value. For example, the maximum range is 31 days. That means if I select day 1, the result should display 1-31. Also I should be allowed to select a range fewer than 31 days. In short, I need to return result from minimum 1 day to maximum 31 days. Is it possible for dashboard prompt? or there are other solutions?

Let's see. To answer your first question, yes, you will end up having two prompts that hold values 1-31. The user will select one value from the first prompt, say 2, and a value from the second prompt, say 31. Since both of these prompt values are stored in presentation variables, you can use them in the filter on the "day column" in your report (i.e., 'Day' greater than or equal to pvStartDay and less than or equal to pvEndDay). This will give you the range on your report.
The reason for the CASE WHEN 1=0 is because you are using the Day column twice in your prompt. OBI only allows you to use a column once in your report. It is also to protect the column from being affected by the prompts.
    Check this link for details:
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/02/26/oracle-bi-ee-101332-between-prompts-for-date-columns-using-presentation-variables/
Now, based on your second post, it appears your conditions are different. You are selecting actual dates, not a number from 1-31.
    TomChan wrote:
Maybe I can describe my case in a simple way. I have a startDate prompt that can select all date values. If I select a date value from startDate prompt, says '20090101'(in yyyymmdd format), the endDate prompt should display maximum 31 values(i.e. 20090101 - 20090131) basing on the selected values of startDate prompt. Then I further select a value in the endDate prompt to filter the report. Is it possible?I am a bit confused. It seems that you want the first prompt to display the first day of the 12 months of the year and once selected, the second prompt would be constrained to show the days of that particular month from which the user would select the "end date"? But then you say "basing [sic] on the selected values of starDate prompt" -- you have "values" as plural. Does this mean the user can select multiple values in the first prompt?

  • How to reset dashboard prompt value to default by using of a radio button

    Hi All,
I have a raido button to switch between 'quick search' and 'advanced search', 'quick search' is variable prompt, and its default value is 'OBIEE', when I switch to 'advanced search', I need to reset 'quick search' variable prompt to default value which is 'OBIEE'. and when I switch to 'quick search', I need to reset 'advanced search' selections to default value as well.
    Any help? much appreciated.

    I agree with David_T.
The best way is to use date column and calculations over it.
Another way is to use for conversion months to date a code like that:
    1. It's a code for month-2, i.e. for JAN we get NOV
    MONTHNAME(TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, -2, CAST('01.' || CASE WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'JAN' THEN '01' ELSE WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'FEB' THEN '02' ... WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'DEC' THEN '12' END || "Time"."Year" AS DATE))) 2. It's a code for month-1, i.e. for JAN we get DEC
    MONTHNAME(TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, -1, CAST('01.' || CASE WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'JAN' THEN '01' ELSE WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'FEB' THEN '02' ... WHEN "Time"."Month" = 'DEC' THEN '12' END || "Time"."Year" AS DATE))) Then I advise to create a report with one column "Time"."Month" and filters - "Time"."Month" is promted OR "Time"."Month" = <formula from 1.> OR "Time"."Month" = <formula from 2.> When this report gets a "Time"."Month" equal 'JAN' then it returns 'NOV', 'DEC' and 'JAN'.
In you report on dashboard you get previous report as a condition report for column "Time"."Month"
    It has to work.

  • Problem with dashboard prompt initial value (OBIEE 11g)

    Hi alli,
I have a problem with dashboard prompt and session variable in OBIEE 11g.
I have declared a session non-system variable which I set/change with dashboard prompt. At login the variable is initialized in initialization block that gets a value from an SQL select statement.
When I change the value in prompt, the session variable changes accordingly, as it should (change is made by calling function NQSSetSessionValue() within javascript function). While I am in my dashboard, cruising around pages the variable stays the same, and when I return to the page that has prompt on it, the correct value is shown. Everything works fine.
The problem occures when I go to Catalog (in presentation services) to create some new Answers. When I return back to the same page in dashboard (which has a prompt), the prompt selected value and session variable are set back to the default value. It looks like the initialization block is executed again.
My prompt is configured like this:
    - Choice List Values: SQL Results
    - Default selection: Variable Expression (@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.VariableName']} )
    - Set a variable: Presentation Variable
Is there a way to stop the initialization block from executing again? Isn't it logical that the initialization block executes only at login, when the session variable is empty? I don't need it to execute every time i come to the dashboard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marko

  • XMLP Parameter And BIEE Dashboard Prompt "All Values"

    Hi Gurus,
I want to insert a XMLP Report in the BIEE Dashboard and use a Dashboard Prompt as parameter in the Report.
There is a way to use the "All Values" value of the prompt?
I write a XMLP data model as:
    select dim_1.Attribute as Dim from BIEESubjectArea where dim_1.Attribute = :Parameter;
Parameter is return by the BIEE Dashboard.
It works for all different value of the Parameter but not if I select the "All Values"
There is a way to make it works?
    Regards,
    Daniele

    Hello Daniele,
When 'All Values' is selected (for Show), it basically displays all values avaliable for the parameter. Are you talking about 'All Choices' option? Selecting 'All Choices' will pass null values and you would have to modify your answers filter to accomodate that.
Take a look at the following: http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/04/detecting-all-choices-from-dashboard.html
    Hope that helps!

  • How to Pass dashboard prompt value to RPD variable??

    Hi Experts,
I am creating RPD variable with below query in initialization block
    SELECT extract(month from Max(report_date))  from xyz_date_dim where report_id=14 and year=:YEAR
I am having YEAR prompt in dashboard..from this RPD variable i want to get MAX(month) from selected year in dashboard. Here my problem is unable to pass selected YEAR to RPD Initialization block.
I read some threads we can pass user selected values to session variables. If possible can any one help me how to pass variable to achieve my requirement.
can any one help me in this....
    Thanks,
    KSS.

So you want to pick a month in a dashboard prompt and have the answers report filter for that month, and return results for that month, month -1, month -2 etc etc.
If so try the following, lets assume your measure is simply called 'count'
in the BMM you have measure 'count' with aggregation set.
Create a new measure in the BMM called 'count MAGO' or whatever you want (this will be month -1)
in the logical forumula for that column, use the AGO function, syntax would be AGO(count measure,<time dimension.Month>, -1) - this function is found under the 'Time Series Functions' category.
repeat steps to create 'count 2MAGO' and use -2 in the AGO function to take off 2 months.
Repeat for however many Mth Ago's you want.
Then in answers, simply use is prompted on your month fied to filter the report for the relative month, select your 'count', 'count MAGO', 'Count 2MAGO' etc, the measure will be calculated for prior months relative to your filtered month.
    Sorted?

  • How to retain the presentation variable values for Dashboard Prompt

I've a dashboard prompt with date and two other drop down field, with default value as yesterday's date set for date and All Values set for other two drop down list. Presentation Variables are D1, P1 and P2 respectivilly
I'm using GO URL from "Report A" and passing presentation variable to navigate to other report (Report B) that works fine. eg:
    '<a href = saw.dll?GO&path=/shared/Reports/ABC/ReportB&Action=Navigate&p0=1&p1=eq&p2="-%20Time"."Next%20Day"&p3=@{d1}>Test</a>'
From Report B I'm using Dashoard URL to go back to Previous Report like:
    <div class="XUIPromptEntry minibuttonOn">
    Return to Previous Screen</div>
    This also works fine.
My problem is that, when users selects different values in the Main dashboard prompt for date and other other two drop down and navigates to other report (Report B), and from Report B, when user returns to previous screen (Main Dashboard), Prompts values gets refreshed to original default values.
Is there any way to retain the values of presentation variable in dashboard Prompt when I return to main dashboard from Report B?
    I'd appreciate your help.

  • Clear default dashboard prompt values

We have created a few dashboard prompts that are defaulted to server variables. When a user enters the dashboard page, they want to these values to be populated with a start and end date for a specific reporting period. They also want to be able to select a different reporting period (year, quarter, etc.). We have put a "Clear my Selections" button on the page, but that does not clear the prompts that have a defaulted value. The only workaround is to manually deleted the defaulted values, which makes the clear button almost useless and difficult to train the users.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Chris,
If you haven't tried, use the code to place a button to clear your selections.
    $div align="right" class="XUIPromptEntry minibuttonOn" $
    $a href="#" onclick="return PersonalizationEditor.removeDefaultSelection(false)"$
    Clear all criteria
    $/a$
    $/div$

  • How  to get the value of multi-select in the   Dashboard Prompt

I have a multi-select prompt in the Dashboard Prompt,  what I want is,   how do I know that user has choose one value,
for examle,  for some reasons,  if user didn't choose any value,  then I will set one column in answer as "customer office" , if user choose one value, then the column in answer will be "customer name".
    any comments, thanks.

    Hi,
first define the presentation variable for the required column prompt. ex: PV
Then in report level set the filter for that column = @{PV}{customer office}. here u have to give default value as "customer office", so by default the report in dashboard will show customer office even though the user does not select any value from dashboard prompt.
