VAR syntax in business rule
<p>Hi,</p><p>I'm trying VAR command in busines rule.</p><p> </p><p>Type of local variables declared by VAR in business rule can benumeric only?</p><p>I shoud use string variables.</p>
Solution found:
Click on RuleSet which you have created.
Expand Rule inside it.
Enable Advanced mode and Tree mode and click OK.
Select Root as Task and click on insert pattren and create pattren which is based on unbounded element (here its meant as fact)
Once you create pattren , will be able access elements under unbounded element for Business rule configuration.

Business Rule question in Essbase
Dear Experts,
I am trying to write the following business rule, I'm new to this and I am not sure how the syntax works, please advice.
All I want to do is to insert the created Block for "March" into a variable so I can use it to calculate the value for IQ1 in the a different block. It should be a fairly simple procedure but I am very new to this and not sure where it is best to look for guides and use of syntax around business rules. So far I'm struggling to get the first block to work.
SET CACHE LOW;
SET UPDATECALC OFF;
SET CLEARUPDATESTATUS OFF;
SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH;
VAR RMAR;
FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","SPLIT_RATIO","VENDOR NA")
MAR =RMAR ;
ENDFIX /* FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","SPLIT_RATIO","VENDOR NA") */
FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","ORIGINAL","VENDOR NA")
MAR = IQ1 * MAR ;
ENDFIX /* FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","ORIGINAL","VENDOR NA") */
Many Thanks
StephenYou can use the cross-dim operator (->) to refer to a different block than the one on which you have fixed. So, in your case, all you have to do is use a single fix block and do the following.
FIX(ORIGINAL, ...)
MAR = IQ1 * "SPLIT_RATIO"->RMAR ;

DataExport Syntax Error in Business Rules
I am having issues trying to create a data export business rule in version 9.3.1. The syntax works fine as a calc script but when I copied it to a business rule I get a syntax error at the first bracket ({) after the 'DATAEXPORTOPTIONS.' The error says it was expecting "\", "]]", <SUBST_VARIABLE>...
The script is pretty simple:
SET DATAEXPORTOPTIONS
DataExportColFormat ON;
DataExportColHeader "Account";
DataExportOverwriteFile ON;
FIX(&ActYear, "Plan","Working.DIV","Local","USD","EUR""HSP_InputValue",@LEVMBRS("Entity",0),"Patch_US","Total Employees")
FIX(@REMOVE(&LastClosedMonth:"Dec",&LastClosedMonth))
FIX("RegularWages","MeritInc","FICATax","FUTATax","SUTATax","IntlTax",@DESCENDANTS("HCFT"),@DESCENDANTS("HCPT"),@DESCENDANTS("HCInt"))
DATAEXPORT "File" "," "F:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices\app\AOLWFP\WrkForce\Exp_WrkForce_ActYear.txt";
ENDFIX
ENDFIX
ENDFIX
I know the data export would not work with business rules unless you have at least patch version 9.3.1.1.5. This shouldn't be an issue:
EAS - 9.3.1.4
BR - 9.3.1.1.11
Planning - 9.3.1.1.12.5
Has anyone come across this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-JohnThank you for pointing this out.
I'm currently browsing metalink kb but "7021469 - Business Rules should support dataexport and dataimportbin functionality" provides no results.
hbr_93300_readme.pdf refers indeee to that issue but I cannot upgrade to that version (because, as stated in that pdf, I should upgrade all prouducts to 9.3.3)
You said it might be solved in Administration Services release 9.3.1.5 (I believe 9.3.1.1.5 was a typo), but the readme does not mention it... -
Syntax for using AND with a variable in Business Rule Source
I've never fully gotten my head around the AND/OR syntax of calc scripts. What I'd like to do is as follows in some basic pseudo code:
FIX( ("A97" AND [Selected_Entity]) OR ("B76" AND [Selected_Entity]) OR ("C63" AND [Selected_Entity]) ).
I want my webform's business rule to execute on the selected Entity in the form (eg. A97) ONLY if that entity is part of a restricted list of members (in this case, 3 entities out of 200).
Thanks for any advice!Hi,
I am not sure if I have totally understood what you are trying to achieve so sorry if I have misread it.
But what you could do is set up a variable in the Bus Rule, lets call EntVar.
It is set up as a local variable of type member and dimension Entity with a run time prompt "Enter Entity"
Now in your script it could look something like this....
FIX(&CurrentYr, "Working".......)
"AccMember"(
IF(@ISMBR([EntVar]) AND ([EntVar]=="A97" OR [EntVar]=="B76" OR [EntVar]=="C63") )
AccMember=.......;
ENDIF
ENDFIX
Once you have tested the business rule, you can get your form to pass through the entity into the variable.
Is this what you are trying to do?
Cheers

Syntax errors in Oracle Business Rules carrental ruleset
Hi,
I'm using Oracle Business Rules Rule Author on Windows, version 10.1.3.0.0.
I'm working with the OTN carrental sample. If i load the supplied file-based repository CarRepository from the %HOWTO_HOME%/dict directory, navigate to the RL tab -> Generate RL-code and select the 'Check RL-Syntax' button I always get the same error message:
Error:'5}' is undefined at line ... column ... in [DM or vehicleRent]
If I navigate to 'Test Rulesets' i get the same error, no matter what testfunction i use with the vehicleRent ruleset.
When i test the sample with the supplied java code i don't get any errors.
However, if I follow the steps in chapter 2 (javaFact) or 4 (XMLFact) of the Business Rules user guide and setup everything from scratch for a filebased repository i get the same error at runtime.
I based the filebased repository on the supplied emptyrepository file.
Seems to make no difference whether I use a filebased or a webdav repository.
any help on this would be appreciated.

[email protected]There are two problems here. First, there is a bug that causes this error string to be displayed incorrectly when using the RuleAuthor in any browser language other than English. If you change the browser language to English, you should see:
<p>
A syntax error is found. <br>
Error:'carrental.Driver' is undefined at line 4 column 14 in DM
<p>
The cause of this problem is that carrental.Driver class is not in the classpath for Rule Author. This isn't covered in the how-to. See section 3.10 in the Oracle® Business Rules Users Guide (B15986-01) (available from here).
<p>
From this doc:
<p>
Create a rule set you want to test. If the data model includes any Java classes, the
Java classes must be included in the OC4J classpath. The easiest way to do this is
to put the JAR files in the following directory, then restart OC4J:
$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/applications/ruleauthor/lib
<p>
or add it as a shared library using EM (specific instructions follow in the doc) and then add that shared library to RuleAuthor.

Deferred Syntax Error : ADF Business Rules
Hi all,
I am working on business rule implementation in my project . I have created a dictionary (.rule) file and added oracle rules and oracle rule editor component libraries to the project . The page fragement contains the rulesdc component which reads the dictionary file from a path . i have also added oracle.soa.rules_dict_dc.webapp.war to the integerated WLS Deployments section. when i run the page i get an error ' Error: Encountered deferred syntax #{ in template text. If intended as a literal, escape it or set directive deferredSyntaxAllowedAsLiteral' . I have also tried with having deferredSyntaxAllowedAsLiteral value true in the page which contains the rulesdc component but no use. the error still persists .
can anybody help in this case?

Using dataexport in a business rules and define the filename with a sub var
Hi,
I have created a calc script to export data using DATAEXPORT, and to define the filename an essbase variable.
Here all right
I copy this code to a business rules to run it from a business rules, but I have a problem with the essbase variable, when I validate it, it gives me the error:
Detail:Encountered "&FileNm" at line 28, column 26.
Was expecting:
My essbase variable is set to:
"e:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\app\TMPGB\dataexportCustomerY2.txt"
in double quote
How anyone use in a Business rules with the command dataexport an essbase substitution variableJust tried:
Script: DATAEXPORT "File" " " &Filename "#Missing";
SubsVar: "c:\DataExtract.txt"
it worked with no issues.

Hello,
I'm creating a calculated field with a set currency for a business rule. I'm planning to use it as a deficiency criteria. I want the values to come from the currency conversion of another field. Can someone provide me the step by step procedure on how to do it?
Some documents would be great.
I've been trying to do it on my own but I've gotten lost.
Thank you.Thank you for all your help above.
Just to confirm your advice, am I right with the following conclusions? :
1. The script (function) to fill the text field with the modification date of a different PDF file needs to be stored in a folder level .js file.
2. The document containing the text field needs to call the .js function either within the document script or within the custom script property of the text field itself.
Further to that can you just advise on the syntax for accessing the modification date of the other document.
Do I need to assign a variable to the address of the file to be used, and then use this variable in the text form filling script (as below) or can I use a direct file reference at the .modDate command.
var LastSync = "C:\sync\bin\lastsync.pdf";
var strMsg = util.printd("h:MM tt",LastSync.modDate) + " on ";
strMsg += util.printd("dddd, d mmmm, yyyy",LastSync.modDate);
this.getField("LastSyncDate").value = strMsg;
If the syntax is totally different to the above I would be very grateful for some guidance in the right direction.
I much appreciate your time to help me ... I'm almost there.
Kind Regards,

Using a local Array in a Business Rule
Newbie question here...
I am writing a business rule that applies a standard rate to a lot of different lines in a business rule. This rate only varies by year, so from a logical perspective I think of it as a 1 dimensional variable. However the rate is actually stored in my normal Essbase cube (8-dimensions) something like the following:
Dimension Dimension Member
Account: Rate
Dim2: No Dim2 Value (A dimension member called "No dim2 Value")
Dim3: No Dim 3 Value
Dim4: No Dim4 Value
Dim5: No Dim5 Value
Dim6: No Dim6 Value
Dim7: No Dim7 Value
Year: [varies by year]
So right now my formula to calculate things looks something like the following:
"Target Account 1" = "Driver Account 1" * Rate ->
"No Dim2 Value" ->
"No Dim3 Value" ->
"No Dim3 Value" ->
"No Dim5 Value" ->
"No Dim6 Value" ->
"No Dim7 Value"
But I have to do this for several "Target" and "Driver" Accounts in the rule, which means an ugly looking rule. What I would like to do is create a local array at the beginning of my business rule and populate it with the rate:
ARRAY _rate[Year]
and then set the value of the array equal to
Rate -> "No Dim2 Value" -> "No Dim3 Value" -> "No Dim3 Value" ->
"No Dim5 Value" -> "No Dim6 Value" -> "No Dim7 Value"
This will allow me to simplify my formula down to
"Target Account 1" = "Driver Account 1" * _rate
My first question is "can I do this?" I've been able to create an array and use it in the formula, but I can't figure out how to populate the values in the array from my main Essbase cube.
The second question is "does it make sense to do this?" In addition to making the code easier to read, my guess is that populating the array once and just using it within the scope of the rule would be a bit more efficient than referencing that big cross dim expression, but I really don't know.
Any advice anyone has would be appreciated.
Thanks
-GlennI am familiar with what you are trying to accomplish.
Having Essbase store a fixed rate over time to be used in calculations is possible. However formulas start to look complex depending on how many dimensions you have and what the desired outcome is.
There are alternate techniques to the one you mentioned.
You can create a new database for rates only and make it with fewer dimensions. Then use the @XREF function to retrieve it in your formulas.
If the rate doesn't change very often you can put the Rate inside of the formula as is.
For example Y2006_Rate = 5%.

Its always been a pain that you have to log into planning first before business rules work correctly through EAS, probably never get fixed now as the push is towards calc manager now.

Essbase parent level aggregation business rule for end users
Can someone provide me the basic syntax of a business rule to allow end users within Planning to run a run time prompt business to aggregate their responsibility level within a dimension like Cost Center? So for example, I want to allow a cost center manager to pick his parent level cost center and then run the aggregation script to rollup only his cost center expenses. I've tried to include AGG and CalcDim commands with various global variables to enable them to select the cost center fix point, but the aggregation doesn't seem to produce the right results. Anyone have a workable syntax for this?
If you are just trying to agg the children up to the parent it is even simplier I'll assume you are trying to roll up the company to some intermediate level
Say you have the outline
company
---East
------NY
-----NJ
---West
-----Ca
-----Az
and you want to roll up East you could do something like
FIX (FY10, Final, Actual)
@IDESCENDANTS("East");
ENDFIX
Of course I would add more into the fix to do the least work possible
The command Idescendants really means calculate all of the descendants of the selected member. I guess if you wanted to make it more efficient you could add the level command into it
like @idescendants("East"",-1) that would avoid looking for anything to do on the level zero members -
Creating simple Business Rules in BPEL process
Hi,
I have an environment consisting of SOA Suite 11g running on Weblogic Server. I'm using JDeveloper 11g for development.
Scenario
I have a BPEL process which starts off by polling a DB table and I then assign the input to a Recieve activity's InputVariable. I have a 'Number' column which will contain a number between 1 and 3. I then require Business Rules (BR) to be set up which read this value, and based on the number, assign a 'Name' string (which is to be the output variable from the business rules) to be used later on in BPEL process.
Problem - I have followed the basic tutorials available in order to set up the business rules, but am getting numerous errors. Firstly, I sometimes find that my input/output variables created during setup of BR component and the XSD based on this, does not have XML Faces automatically created for it (therefore have to create it myself by clicking on the + button and doing this for each element of XSD). When I do get this working, I then double-click on my Business Rules activity in my BPEL process, only to find that the input/output variables here no longer are assignable to my BR input/output variables as I get the following error "Exception: Problem Building Schema!".
I am not sure why this is, but suspect that my XSD (which is very simple anyway) or the setup steps I follow to define the link to my XSD, are wrong.
I have taken the following steps so far:
1. Create empty BPEL process
2. Set up polling adapter to poll DB table
3. Create Receive activity and assigned polled input to created variable
4. Add Business Rules component to composite and set up and create dictionary here. Also set up inputs/outputs to be in form of my XSD elements.
5. Add Business Rules component to my BPEL process and configure this to include input/output variables (*This is where error occurs*)
6. Go back to .rules component in composite to define rule and define rule
Upon deployment, I get many errors most of which pertain to "Unresolved XML element... make sure XML element +xxxxx+ is defined in one of WSDL's that are referenced by the deployment descriptor."
I have only imported a simple XSD containing two elements to this project. The other XSD is the one of my polling adapter. I've not created any input/output variables for the overall BPEL process as didn't think I was required to.
Can you please help in getting this process doing the simple activities described at the top.
I appreciate your help.
Edited by: user10248308 on 10-Mar-2010 11:49Hi,
Create a project with BPEL composite
Now drag a business rule
Now create input variable of type ur requestelement
and output variable of type response element
Now in rules designer page take decision table
and then craete a condition (inputelement.input > 1000) and in the rule select true
now create another rule select false
Npw create an action with assertion and select the parameterized box there
now in designer page for first rule assign some value (say 500) and for second rule some value(100)
Now in bpel u have to assign a value to input var of BR
Deploy the process
If u supply 10000 u will get 500
if u supply 100 u will get 100
In the same way u can do by using If-Then
You can use facts and bucketsets according to ur requirement

Smart View error on Launching Business Rule
Hi ,
I am in Planning 9.3.1
After connecting to Planning Webform from Smartview, i am trying to Launch Business Rule attched to the webform
Hyperion--> Calculation Option--> Rules on form
It open the new BR Launching window with all parameter selected in the Webform Page drop down list but when i trying to change the Arguments
by clicking on the icons or if i am clicking on the Launch button getting following error
"Substitution Vars XML is malfunctioned, can't initialize dialog"
any idea or tought on this.
-KKThere is an article on this issue on "My Oracle Support"
SmartView "Substitution Vars XML is malformed, can't initialize dialoge.." Message is Displayed after Clicking on the Magnify Button [ID 752508.1]
Symptoms
Error message in SmartView after clicking on the magnify button "Substitution Vars XML is malformed, can't initialize dialog.." is displayed.
Planning web forms with Business Rule (Runtime prompt) set to "Run on Save". When submitting data in SmartView, it will then open a separate window to allow changes to the run time prompt values.
Cause
This issue is caused by substitution variables values containing double quotes or the '&' signs.
Solution
This is a noted bug, but the following will help as a workaround to the problem:
1. Login to EAS as administrator.
2. Next navigate to the enterprise view.
3. Select the Essbase Servers.
4. Right-click on your server.
5. Select Edit.
6. Select Variables.
7. Remove double quotes and '&' signs from substitution variable value.

Whether you included the System_contants.LGL and Consolidation_Library.LGL in the logic file.
*INCLUDE SYSTEM_CONSTANTS.LGL
*SYSLIB CONSOLIDATION_LIBRARY.LGL
Syntax used & its works.
*RUN_STORED_PROCEDURE=SPRUNCALCACCOUNT([%APP%],[ACTUAL],[LC],[%Scopetable%],[%Logtable%],[ABCC])
Give a try!
Note: Use the Square brackets [[%APP%]] in the syntax.
after posting this thread, syntax is showing as URL.
