Varchar2 and Nchar lengths..

Hi All,
I have a doubt. In the Oracle book.. it is said that, maximum size of Varchar2 and Nchar datatypes is 32767bytes. but in the bottom, maximum width in the database comumns are 4000 and 2000 bytes respectively, and we cannnot insert more than that..
Can anybody explain what is the difference..?
Thanks in advance

You are mixing and matching things ...
Oracle SQL is not the same as Oracle PL/SQL
Oracle SQL character datatypes are limited to 4K bytes.
Oracle PL/SQL character datatypes are limited tp 32K bytes.
Please go back to the books and verify the context as SQL or PL/SQL

  • NVARCHAR2 and NCHAR detection

I'd tried to import tables from oracle 9i into Toplinks Workbench. For each table a descriptor was created and all fields where detected correctly, except fields of type NVARCHAR2 and NCHAR. These fields are now undefined. I could specify them manually, but there are a lot of them and the field lengths are also missing.
Has this bug already bin fixed? Is there a workaround to force Toplink detecting fields of type NVARCHAR2 and NCHAR?
    Thanks.

    Hi Leslie,
actually I'm using release 9.0.3, build 425. In the meantime I already completed the Descriptors manually. A monotone job, but now its running.

  • Logical and Physical Length in Datastore

I would like to know the differences between logical length and physical length in datastore. Can anyone teach best practices to use them properly?

    Thank you Bouch,
So usually is it required to set "logical length + 2" for physical length?
Also, can you show exapmles for sign and dot, which to be added on each columns?

    hi all,
I moved  Transoft USQL Database from one server to another, even though i am able to validate the server with usql client but my crystal reports is giving errors while trying to open up some of the reports.
Unfortunately doesnt happens for all the reports, it happens for only for the reports which prompts for values in preview screen.
This is the error i get
first error screen....Failed to open a rowset....
    second error screen
    Failed to open a rowset
Details:HY000:[Transoft][TSODBC][MF](log: 3816-175022)offset and/or length of column exceeds maxium record length of 0
Thats it i get a blank crystal report screen.
I would appreciate if experts would help me out..

Don't use localhost as your server name. It's a reserved name and should not be used in code.
Try this also [Kbase |http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333533353333333433363339%7D.do] SAP Note 1553469 - How to enable Database logging in Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

  • Zero fill and max length VC7 Compile to WebDynpro not working

    Hi,
i try to call Customer get list and set the attributes zero fill and max length to the input table form.
But the user has to put in the exact length and zero filled.
    Any idea what to do
    Thanks
    Uwe

    Hi Uwe,
if I understand your question you need something like an alpha conversion.
You can use a formula, therefore is an textfunction called LPAD(text, len, pad).
You can use it like this:
    LPAD(@yourtext, 18, "0")
@yourtext contains the input, the length is 18 and filling values is 0 like a alpha conversion.
    Best Regards,
    Marcel

  • Regarding offset start and offset length

    Hi,
Hello Reporting experts, I have a query on offset start and offset length which i have come across while creating
formula variable type replacement path and with text variable type replacement path.
Can you please tell the neccessary of the usage of offset start and offset length with anyone scenario.
                           Thanks in advance.

    Hi Srini,
I had shared this with one of them in the Forum, the same and sharing with you as copy paste of thjs Link was not working ...
I will share one of the Scenerios where i have used them ...
This is by using Replacement path by using variables by text Variables....
For Offset Start and offset length
The user input month.Year in the input ,say 02.2010 and he wanted the month to be displayed in the Heding of the KF and not the YEAR.We created Text variables and assigned it to the Month-year Variable and Did Offset to pick only the Month and not the Year by choosing the Month Alone.
    for Interval-From-to
In another Scenario we used the we input say,02.2010-05.2010 and we wanted the month to the captured seperately i.e 02 and 05 in the Heading of the KF,so we used the From adn To and Did Offsetting.

  • Show channels with own time channel and different length in one 3D graph

    Hi,
How can i show channels with own time channel and different length in one 3D graph?
My consideration looks like this, but i didn't found a solution with acceptable performance. ( i have many channels to merge and many data in them)
i have 4 Channels 2 with values and 2 with time.
    Example:
    Pair 1:
    1 - 3
    2 - 4
    3 - 5
    4 - 8
    5 - 9
    Pair 2:
    1.5 - 6
    2.3 - 7
    4.5 - 8
    I want than this result:
    1 - 3
    1.5 - null
    2 - 4
    2.3 - null
    3 - 5
    4 - 8
    4.5 - null
    5 - 9
    And
    1 - null
    1.5 - 6
    2 - null
    2.3 - 7
    3 - null
    4 - null
    4.5 - 8
    5 - null
    thanks a lot
    by
    Stefan

    Hi StefanF,
You need to first create the timebase that you want (in this case with a 0.5 increment) using the "Generate Numeric Channel" ANALYSIS function, then use the resulting time channel in the "Linear Mapping" ANALYSIS function for each of the original channel pairs.

  • Material No and Charecter length

    Dear All,
Can we increase the charecter lengh of material?
I mean in SAP std. material No length is 18 and description length is 40 can we increase it?
If, yes then how to do it?

    Hi Vishal,
SAP does not allow to change any Standard field that it has provided.
For custom requirement, one needs to make custom fields and custom tables.
It actually depends on your requirement.
If u r using standard table or field, u can not change them.
otherwise, make a custom Z-table and custom dield in that and then do any changes u like.
    Hope this helps u.
    Reward points if helpful.

  • Diff. between CRLF and fixed length IDoc

    Hi,
Can someone explain the difference between CRLF and fixed length idoc? Please provide the link (if any) which gives a detailed description.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

I know this basic difference between the 2 types.. I would like to know if there is anything more to it?
Because I've a CRLF file where SEGNUM is 0 for all the segments. I am of the assumption that SEGNUM should indicate the segment number in a file..
    Thanks,

  • Incorrect Bitrate and Track Length

Many tracks in my iTunes library are being reported in the columns with false bitrates and track lengths. For example, some tracks are reported as being over 20 minutes long when they're actually only about five minutes in length. Also, many songs are showing up as 32kbps [CBR] when they are actually much higher VBR variable bitrates. I heard that this is a problem with VBR files using an old way of encoding. Is there a way to fix this without re-encoding my files?

I seem to have fixed this new problem on my own. I deleted everything on my iPod and then copied all of the files in my library from my PC back onto it. I think that after I updated/fixed all of my files, the Sync feature wasn't detecting that these files were actually modified and left the old improperly-working, outdated versions of them on there.

  • Diff. between length and external length.

    Hi Guys.
Can anybody please let me know the difference between Length and External Length in Data Source's "Field" Tabstrib.
    thanx
    peter

    Peter,
Assume We are loading data from Flat File.
We have date field coming from File. Date can any format. with that drop down box , we can specify either internal format or External format (File has which format for Date field).
Suppose if i'm providing Internal Format, Date Value should be 20070510.
If you choose external format, we have flexibility to enter the length (Take the Case of Fiscal Month).
