Variable screen performance in report

In my project we are having  somany master data objects,
we have to find the performance of selection screen ,earlier we have only display as selection screen  as key now according to our client requirment we are providing both key and text in sleection screen with long text , how can i find these master data objects performance in variable screen.
The SAP std out of the box setting for an Infoobject is usually the key.( Sometimes text )
We are now making changes to almost all info objects to display as key and text, and depending on what business is asking we are changing to Long text, medium or short.
Investigation required
1)       how does it affect the performance when we do F4 help
2)       how does it help in search by text
3)       what difference does it make when searching by key vs text.
My feel is if we show the key and text , definitely the key comes from Dimension table and the text will be fetched from the text table of the master data attribute
And hence for business partner etc it might really affect the time taken to fetch the variable values.
please help how to find the performance of variables.

Yeah, It won't have much impact on the performance of the selection screen.......
Even we are displaying both key and text for many reports but never faced a performance issue.......

  • Variable screen performance in BEx - post upgrade to BI7

    Hello,
We have recently upgraded to BI7 - SP16.  We are using the 710 gui, patch level 3.  Bex version is 3.5, patch level 6.
Since we have upgraded, we have been experiencing a major performance hit when opening the variable screen of a query, as well as navigating within the variable screen.  We are using the Excel version of BEx.
When we were on 3.5, opening the variable screens only took about 5 seconds, now it takes 30.  To use F4 for the dropdown lists, in 3.5 it took about 3 seconds, now it takes 15.  To enter multiple selections, it took 1 second, in BI7 it takes 15.
Our users, needless to say are getting very frustrated with the performance.  The query execution time is comparable to when we were on 3.5.
I have this open as a high priority issue with sap, but they have yet to come up with a fix.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Charla

    Hi

I think note 1044219 is important for you:
    1. The BEx Web Analyzer executes queries before the system displays the variable dialog. This cannot be avoided.
    2. You cannot prevent the BEx Web Analyzer from saving variables in the workbook and using them again when you reopen it.
Additional it includes other notes and hints regarding performance in variable screen and F4 help.

  • Skipping of the variable screen in Web report

    Hi,
I have created my queries in Bex. When I run the reports from my favorites in the SAP GUI, the reports are displayed directly without bringing up the variable screen in the web browser.
Currently on BI7. Any ideas how to fix the issue.
    Thanks
    Demetrius

Queries in Web are run using the default web template (which is generally 0analysis_pattern) - you can check the default WT for your system in tcode SPRO. In the properties of the web template, you have an option 'Display Variable Screen' - you can turn it on. As such, I think your query has no 'mandatory' variables, otherwise the var entry screen should have appeared.
You might want to search for some threads on 0analysis_pattern to get some more info about it.

  • Issue in F4 help in variable screen of the report

    Hi All,
I am facing an issue with Bex query, there are two navigational attributes in query, those are NAV1 and NAV2 and we have created two variable for these attributes,
When we run the query in analyzer and in the variable screen we are trying to select values for these attributes from F4 help, we are able to see both the values in each attribute.
For example NAV 1 has 100 vlues and NAV2 has 100 values, when we click on F4 help on the NAV1 attribute in variable screen we are able to see 200 entries, means it's including NAV2 values, it is vise-versa for the NAV2 attribute also.
I ran the same report in RSRT and click on F4 help for NAV1 and NAV2 attributes, here entris are fine, each attribute showing only 100 entries.
What could be reason for this issue.
Could you please adivce me how to solve this.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Please check Note 1495735 - 'check of changed records between DB and BIA after changerun'.
If BIA is in use then this can be the cause.
Otherwise check Note 1517248 - 'F4 help uses M mode instead of D mode for line item characteristic'.
Finally, verify the read modes for both InfoObjects:

  • Variable screen in Web report

    Dear all,
I have a small BEx question. In my report, I restrict by using variable ZCREATOR which contains business partner number. Here’s the problem, in my variable screen, even though I set the display TEXT or  LONG TEXT it only shows me description of the short text. E.g if fullname is JOHN DOW, it only shows DOW
But once the report is generated out, LONG TEXT will of cause show JOHN DOW whereas if SHORT TEXT will just show DOW.
Answer I need would be, how can I set in my variable screen to show JOHN DOW instead of DOW?

  • How to hide some variables on variables screen in web report (in WAD)

I need to hide some optional variables (not all of them) on variables screen in web template.
Hiding the whole selection screen is not an option, since users have to populate other variables and some variables are mandatory.
Web template is based on a query that can be run in BEx Analyzer by superusers - and there they need all variables. I want to use the same query both in BEx Analyzer for superusers and on the Portal for regular users. For portal version though I need to hide some of the variables on the selection screen. Is it possible at all?
I would like to avoid creating two separate queries - one for Analyzer and one for Portal.

if the variables are optional and mandatory both avaialble
then there is no chance that u can hide them
the only option is to create a save as QUERY and remove those variable.
it is not possible to just hide the variable screen...
if u hv used they will be displayed....
if u dont want it dont use it...
and if really using another query is not advisable as u said
the only thing i can say is that... try to interact with ur security person
ask him u need to create several authorization objects for several variables
    if that is possible
    let him create those
assign those specific authorization object to specific user id
use it for specific variables u need
tat way super users with specaial authorization can acess the same query and can see specific variables
regular users withouts authorization of variables can see rest of variables.

  • Pop up message on the variable screen in portal when report is run

    Hello
I have a requirement to pop up a message stating " Date should not be entered before 2010 "on the variable screen of the report if date is entered before 2010 by the user when the report is run.
Please can someone tell me how to implement this?
    thanks

    Hi Tom,
The logic could be to include code in CMOD forat variable with ISTEP=2.
    IF I_STEP = 2.
LOOP AT i_t_var_range into wa_t_var_range where vnam = 'Date Varaible'
<write condition to check the year entered. First, using function module DATE_TO_PERIOD_CONVERT, extract year from Date>

           IMPORTING
             E_BUPER              = zbuper
E_GJAHR              = zbdatj this is the year entered

             T009_NOTFOUND        = 2
             T009B_NOTFOUND       = 3
             OTHERS               = 4>

Then check the year for the condition.
    If correct.
    exit.
    else.
    CALL FUNCTION 'RRMS_MESSAGE_HANDLING'
    EXPORTING
    I_CLASS = 'RSBBS'
    I_TYPE = 'E'
    I_NUMBER = '000'
I_MSGV1 = 'Date should not be entered before 2010'.
    raise again.
    endif.
    endif.
    endloop.
    Hope this helps you.!

  • How to show a variable screen when clicking on direct link of report in ,when that report is used as target in RRI alsoRRI

    Hi All,
I have created RRI between two reports and the type is web template/WAD.
My requirement is to show the variable screen of target report when clicked on direct link and it should not show the var. screen if it goes from jump/go to.
while currently I can not see var. screen on both the places and when switching the var. scree. display on in web template , it shows the screen at both the places.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Anu

    Hi Anu,
"And when I am using another var. in assignment details which is ready for input (in both the queries), its not helping."
Did you try using such a variable? What kind of a problem do you face? I am sorry I am still trying to understand your problem. I am just saying that which variable you use is not important for the first query. Only in the second query, add a variable with ready for input (I am not sure why the other doesn't work, I just tried and it gave an error, that's why I suggest this) and in RRI connection make the assignment with this variable. Please try this and let me know the result.

  • I would like to display current fiscal year always on variable screen

    Hi
I have requirement in which I would like to display the current fiscal year on variable screen in BI Report.
we have a standard variable however the sap exit to display the current fiscal year is not shown...
Can any one tell me, how to proceed in this case.
    Thanks
    Chetan

    Hello,
    For I-step = 1, use the function module DATE_TO_PERIOD_CONVERT.
here for IMPORT use i_date = sy-datum and i_periv = ur fiscal variant.
The output is e_buper contains fiscal period and e_gjhar contains fiscal year.
The use concatenate to join fiscal year and fiscal period to the variable low value.

  • Reg. Variable screen while loading bookmark

    HI Friends,
We are working with WAD in SAP BI 7.01 ( With SAPKW70105 patch).
We are having some issue with variable screen display while loading bookamark.
Actually user wanted to show the Variable screen while running report, So we explicity switched on the "Display Variable" in web template
Even we have the option called "While loading Bookmark" in webtemplate.
We have given the option as HIDE for "while loading bookmark. This option is working fine, if the report doesnt have the mandatory fields in the selection screen. At that time if we create bookmark and click on created bookmark means.. it will show us the report without showing the variable screen (Selection screen).
But if the report is having mandatory fields in the selection screen and if we create the bookmark, click on the same.. it will prompt the selection screen (which we dont want to ).
So can anyone please help on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravish

    HI Friend
    Thank you for the support.
We are abe to solve the issue by adding the JAVA patch.
    Thanking you again

  • Display of Compounded InfoObject in Business Objects Variable screen

    Hi,
The Cost Center is compounded with Controlling Area in BEX Query and there is filter on that.  After running the query, in the select options, it will display Cost Center in the possible values in the selections.
When this query is used in BO Universe, the Variable screen in Webi report is displaying the Cost Center concatenated with Controlling Area.  But in BEx Query, it displays only the Cost Center, not the Controlling Area.
Can it be possible to just see the Cost Center (with out Controlling Area) in Webi Reports ? Can some one have any input ?
    Thanks,
    Mohan

    Mohan,
The BW Olap Engine (as used directly by BEx) can distinguish a compound object, and 'strip-out' the
prefix information. However, when this compound info (such as 0FISCYEAR - which is a compound object made
up of: 0FISCVRNT/0FISCPER, in the format : K4/200912 ) ... comes to BO WEbI via MDXINTERFACE + ODA
Layer, this 'intelligent' display is not detected. This feature does not exist in SAP OLAP BAPI.
As Ingo said on reporting level we can use substring or replace kind formuals but for prompts we have to wait until SAP tweaks it in next SP.
    Thanks

  • Variable Screen (F4 Popup) masterdata attribute column count

    Hi Experts,
I need to show 5 columns in variable popup screen but more than 3 columns can be accessed with scrollbar only. How can I increase column count in F4 popup screen?

  • Avoid Variable Screen depending on query status

    Hi All,
we are using portal to display BW reports.
there are some reports which may be on and off the portal coz of data changes.
we are working out a way , when user clicks the BW report link in portal , he will be given a message of report not available.
we could achieve this using modify class in the Template.but the problem is still the Variable Screen comes up.
so essentially the user will come to know the report is not available after giving all the values in the variable screen and execute the quesy.
any ideas on how to dynamically avoid Variable screen if the report is no good or any way to insert small piece of javascript code in the variable screen?
    Thanks,
    -D

    Solved it myself.

  • Variable Screen Execute Button

    Hi,
Is there any possibility to associate Keyboard key 'ENTER' or any key to the Exectute button of the Variable Screen?
Is that possible to do with Javascript or something?
      Any Ideas?
    Thank you
    AP

    Hi AP,
I guess you are talking about the variable screen for web reports...I have been on the lookout to associate a keyboard key to the "Enter" button too. But it seems that this is just a table cell designed with CSS to look alike a button...
One suggested work around is as follows:
    Use a "normal" dropdown-box for variable-input -> https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/.../How%20to%20Use%20a%20Dropdown%20Box%20to%20Set%20Variable%20Values.pdf
Build a JavaScript-Function in the onSelect-Handler of the dropdown-box and call the WebTemplate you want by SAPBWOpenURL (....)
So by clicking a var-value the user jumps directly to the WebTemplate. If you have more than 1 var, insert the function in the last dropdown-box.
However this solution is not viable for a standard web template and hence I have not tried it out.

  • Bookmark Issue in WAD (Report Output without Variable Screen)

    Hi ,
This issue is with the Saving of Report Output to Bookmark.
    Expected Output:
Clicking on the Bookmark should bring out the Report Output with the Period and Year, which was used while saving the Bookmark. It should not pop up variable screen at the beginning.
    Issue:
Currently, when I click the bookmark, Its triggers the default template and it brings out the  Variable Screen with the default Selections, which i dont want to. I need to get the same output with the values which I saved under Bookmark.
    Please suggest me a solution...
    Thanks / Selvan
