Variant configuration questions

HI Gurus,
Pls help me answer following two questions
1.Is there a way i can transfer the variant configuration master data(Characteristics, class, dependencies etc) to other(quality, production) system automatically?
2.In case of inconsistency in the VC configuration system says "Configuration is inconsistent" it doesn't give any specific message where the inconsistency happened.Pls let me know is there a way i can give specific message when inconsistency happenes.
Example: when user selects car model 1105, colour red should not be allowed. In this case i want to send a message "For model 1105, colour red not allowed" not just "configuration inconsistent"
Thanks,
KRishna

1) Data that is used in Varaint Config (Classes, Characteristics, Object Dependencies, etc .................) can be sent to other Clients by ALE).
2) When you see that you have an inconsitency, double click on the Red Error, this will bring up a Window with the Characteristic and Value that is inconsistent.  Next click on the Object Dependency Button, under the window title bar.  This wil show you the Object Dependency that is raising the inconsistency.  Variant also has a Trace Tool that you can use to watch Object dependencies, to see the Value before the Object dependency set the Value, and than the Value after the Object dependency.

  • Variant configuration question????

    Hi gurus,
I have done variant configuration. Created a configurable material, created class and characteristics.
E.g. My configurable material is a door. The characteristics are Colour/Size/Type etc.
    The values are: Colour:Green/Red - Size:2m/2.5m(wood) - Type: Small/big
I want to order from suppliers Red colour, Green colour, wood etc and keep them in stock.
How can I connect values with materials Red colour, Green colour etc in order to reduce their stock every time a Sales Order takes place????
How can I say for example that Green reduces 2kg and Red 3kg of the stocked colours? or for example the small wood 2 square m /the big 3 sqm?????etc
I do not want to use PP and MRP...I do not want a Production order to be created for every Sales order, I want for Every Sales Order the Stock of raw materials to be reduced..
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Theodoros
Steps for Variant Configuration in SD
Some light on Variant Configuration in Detail.
Generally, in SD variant is effectively used for pricing for variant. The following configuration with example will be able to assist you in same regard.
    The procedure is as follows:
u2022 Create a Material - KMAT as Material Type with Item Category - 002 by using TCode MM02
u2022 Create Charateristics using TCode CT04 - Zbike, where in values mention the Color of the bile like Red, Blue etc
u2022 Create another Characteristics using TCode CT04 - ZPrice, where directly go the additional data tab and maintain the table SDCOM and field VKOND (ABAP Dictionary it will ask for)
u2022 Assign these two characteristics to a Class using TCode CL01 - ZBikeclass (Type 300) in characteristics tab page.
u2022 Then go to Configuration Profile using TCode CU41 select the material and enter the description click on the Class assignment, i.e., assign Zbikclass.
u2022 Now go back to Characteristic using TCode CT04 - enter Zbike -go to values- select Red- go to extras - Other Dependencies - Select Procedure enter in front 10 write - $self.ZPrice='Red' and save
u2022 Now go back go to Extras - Other Dependencies - Assignments and Assign relationship ( by default it will come just save)
u2022 Now select Blue- go to Extras - Other Dependencies - Editor - Select Procedure enter in front of 10 write - $self.ZPrice='Blue' and save
u2022 Now go back go to Extras - Other Dependencies - Assignments and Assign relationship ( by default it will come just save)
u2022 Now go to Condition Record using TCode VK11 - Enter VA00 (Condition)(For Std RVA001 Pricing Procedure) - enter variant Red and Blue give the rates accordingly and create the sales order.
u2022 Activate the variant configuration in Sales Document make the above effective or in use.
    Hope this helps you

  • Variant Configuration Data download from R/3 to CRM

    Hello all
It may be a very dumb question, but I would certainly appreciate an answer.
We are currently using SAP R/3 4.6c and heavily use VC for configurable products and also for pricing.
Now we wish to explore the possibility of using SAP CRM 5.0 to enable our sales force to use CRM PCUI to create quotes for configurable materials.
    My questions are as following:-
    1. Is it possible to download all VC related data into CRM from R/3 including pricing? I understand that for different VC object, I will have to use different CRM objects but is it possible? If the data transfer is possible, is it typically done by a middleware resource?
    2. I would also like to confirm that by creating a run time version and Kbase is pre requisite to enable the download to CRM.
If you could please point me to the appropriate help on this topic, I would really appreciate it.
    Best regards
    Jai

    Hi Gun,
    In your message, You stated
As recommended by SAP, if we have R/3 link into our CRM
the best scenario is to get VC product from R/3 into CRM.
Is there any documentation tjhat backs this up? could you give it to me
we have  a situation in our company where we have been using a home grown product  that not only lets you configure product bu it also takes the user through a selling experience for example it asks the user if he is interested in buying any accessories for the product and provides options through pop messages and the user can select. this way it takes leads the user  through questionnaires that comes in pop ups to select a product
we have crm service and ecc implemented and now we need to implement  this feature for the crm sales  piece
the question is do we go for  PME  or variant config that is already set up in ECC ?
the link and middle ware set up between ECC and CRM is also available so we can bring the variant configuration from ECC into crm.  but how about the questionnaires and the selling experience that is available  through pop up questionnaires,
we can set up the selling experience via the Product modeler   but as a company we need to make a decision whether we bring the varinat configuration from ecc and use the selling experience  for the pop up questionnaires that leads customer
or should we just use sales packages that behaves similarly like varinat configuration and add enahcnements to create the pop- up questionaires
Could you direct /provide some guidance in this area?
    Sara

  • Implementing Variant configuration with Non-configurable assembly

    Hi Gurus!
I have a scenario but don't know how to implement it.
My header material is configurable and has 3 semi-finished components under it. One of the semi-finished component contains a BOM with 2 raw materials, but this component is not configurable. I mean my model has a multi-level BOM but single a single level configuration. I want to implement an assemble-to-order manufacturing process for the header material. The component with 2 BOM items is manufactured in-house and the other semi-finished components are procured externally.
What kind of planning strategy should I use at the header level and should I maintain any special planning strategy for the non-configurable assembly?
I am new to SAP and also to variant configuration. So please give detailed explanation.
I have read the Planning strategies in the link SAP Library - Demand Management (PP-MP-DEM) but it is too confusing to me.
    Best Regards,
    Thileepan P

    Hi Caetano Almeida
Thank you for the links. I got a few more questions after reading that.
    1. In order type settlement profile which order should I check? I am creating a sales order (OR) for a configurable material in MTO strategy 25. In that case should I check "SD1    Sales Order MTO Production"? If so, am I looking at the right screen (refer screenshot below) and  are the settings correct in my system?
    2. As you have mentioned in the other links. Is it fine to make changes in material valuation in OMS2? Have you come across any situation in which this change has led to other inconsistencies?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Thileepan

  • SO BOM or Variant Configuration or Other for Technical Sale

    Dear Community,
I would like to ask you and advice on this.
In a Plastic Packaging Industry with lots of different products but very similar at the same time, production is triggered after the customer order.
To me it sounds very logical to use Variant Configuration scenario to specify product details which define its components and operations. Nevertheless the Sales People are don't have the enough knowledge to define completely the product and need a Technical Area to define key information to complete the product. before sending sales order (or quotation) to customer.
Which scenario would you use ? And most important: how would you use it to integrate  the customer requirement information with technical data from experts?
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards,
    Sebastián Ligueros

Hi Mario and the rest of community, I wish you a Happy New Year!
Answering the questions: The product is engineered specifically for the customer and is possibly (not always) subject to change in every sales order.
The first requirement from customer goes to sales department. If the product is new there is lot of joint woirk with technical area to develop the particular product and then send the quotation to the customer when most of the processes and components are defined. Product can be further specified in the sales order. If the product has been already sold in the past, sales department send quotation/sales order taking as reference a previous one maybe changing one or two elements like graphic design.
In this interaction between  the sales department requirement and technical area for product development at "preparation for quotation level"  and then for sales order I would like to know in your opinion which would be the best scenario.
    Thank you,
    Sebastián Ligueros

  • Variant configuration class types

    Hi Friends,
I have some questions on variant configuration class types
What is the difference among following class types?
    1. 001 --- Material class
    2. 023 -
    Batch
    3. 200-----Material (Configurable objects)
    4. 300-----Variants
In which business scenario we can define above class type? Could you please explain with some example scenarios?
And also what is the difference between "Fully configured material" and "Configurable Material"
Valuable information in this regard is greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Krish

    Hi Krish,
    1. 001 --- Material class for general information of one material. It is fix information.
        Example : Tiles
        Class 001, characteristic : Size : 30 x 30, Color : White, etc
    2. 023 -
Batch for goods receipt / production specific data
        Example : Tile
Class 023, characteristic : Prod Date : 23.08.2011, Grade : First Grade, etc
    3. 200-----Material (Configurable objects), For Configurable material (strategy in MRP 3 : 20, make to order type). In sales order we must define the characteristic of product customer as customer request.
       Example : Car
Class 200, characteristic : AC : Yes / No, Tire : Upgrade / Standard, etc
From Characteristic chosen in sales order will determine the BOM and Routing of production order. See Variant   Configuration topic for more detail.
    4. 300-----Variants for material variant. We create material variant for configurable material. Value of characteristic is determine in material master.
        Example : Car Type 1
Class 300, Characteristic ; AC : Yes, Tire : Upgrade
Hope it give you brief explanation.

  • Variant Configuration on Sales order

    Hi guys,
Our users should be able to create sales orders from a webdypro screen using standard "variable configuration".
I am looking for ideas on how to integrate/transfer the beck-end "variable configuration" to the dynpro screen?
    Please advice,
    Thanks!

You are talking about Variant Configurator - as in configuration of the product at Sales Order entry time - and not some Web Dynpro specific personalization/configuration - right?  If so, for questions about what application specific APIs you should call, you really need to ask those in other forums.  Perhaps the ERP or ABAP general forum you would reach a wider audience because that question really isn't WDA specific.  Have you checked the Enterprise Service for Sales Orders?
I know that the WDA version of Sales Order Entry (L_ORD_MAINTAIN) doesn't yet support Variant Configuration of products.  Therefore there may not be good APIs yet.  I know that Variant Configuration is rather complex because you are basically building meta data that controls the screen generation for the configuration options.
    >How do we controll the "flow" logic
What do you mean by this?

  • Variant Configuration - product validation step at sales order

    Hi all,
By using Variant Configuration, new products can be created at sales order entry ==> is there any way to put a validation process in place where a number of checks (by different people) should be performed before being able to save the order?
    thanks
    Bart

    Hi Vineet,
    Thanks for your answer.
I realize dependencies can help control which characteristics value can be choosen. In the meantime my question became; how I can prevent that my sales order gets visible for the planning department (typically they would look in transaction MD04 I guess)? I  will post this question under the appropriate topic.
This is the type of flow I have in mind:
customer service fills in the order, specifies the values for the characteristics, Availability check runs and the order is saved
order is saved but not confirmed so it is not transferred to planning
planning (or other department like production) checks the order and the variant. If it is ok, they will confirm the order so it gets to the planning. If not,  they will get in contact with customer service.
I'm not experienced in availability check, planning, etc so I might have written big mistakes here.

    Bart

  • Variant Configuration / Need for a separate forum

    Dear Moderators,
I have been contributing, accessing and extracting information from this forum for my projects and trainings. Recently we have added lot of new forums especially in SD, a separate forum for billing, sales etc.
On the same path, I feel that it will add immense value if a new forum for Variant Configuration is created. As this is an area which touches various modules, and various applications like configurable materials in SD, Release procedures in MM, etc, people can share all the information regarding variant configuration in a common forum like this.
May I please request you to consider this and take it forward if this makes some sense.
Any feedback on this is welcome, especially from people like Rajesh Banka, Laxmipathy etc who have been here for quite sometime in SD

    I'm going to respectfully disagree.
I saw something similar at elementsvillage.com when they created a "Mac-Specific" forum. People who had questions that really had nothing to do with their Mac, for example "Can't open RAW from D7000", still put the question in the Mac-Specific forum, because they were using a Mac. As a result, the community was fragmented in ways that had nothing to do with the question. People who might have benefited from this question but didn't have a Mac and so didn't look in the Mac-Specific forum, and didn't get the answer as quickly. People who asked questions in this forum that had nothing to do with Macs wound up relying on a smaller community of experts to help solve the problem. I know I certainly never read that forum, so I didn't provide answers, nor did I learn from the information in that forum. I consider that decision to create a "Mac-Specific" forum to be a failure.

  • VARIANT CONFIGURATOR/GRAPHICALLY

    Hi All,
This is a very urgent question since I need to come with a technical solution the coming weeks. I have the following problem:
A client wants to use variant configurator in SAP but instead of filling in the values of the characteristics himself, he wants to have a graphical tool (kind of graphical interface in which he wants to configure his material).
Example : configure a car --> you want to configure you car by selecting the different components en options but this via a graphical interface. This screen then updates my values in the variant configurator.
In my case it is not a car but more simple products like doors and windows.
I once saw an integration of visio but this was not in SAP ! Any other ideas ? Java applets ???? I have not clue
thanks and hope to hear you soon,
    eric hassenberg
    [email protected]

It's a huge task. Some ideas:
    - use can use ActiveX from ABAP -> for details check Thomas Jung's weblog.
    - in PLM I saw some screenshots, where some product related tool was intergrated into SAPGUI ...never had a changes to logon into a PLM system, however you can find some docs in the marketplace under alias /plm .

  • Variant Configurator / BAPI Create

We’re building a web interface to our R/3 Variant Configurator.  Our product is complex and requires us to create Inquiries with nested configurable materials.  We’re having a couple of issues and I’m hoping someone might be able to point us in the right direction.  A couple of questions …
    1)  As mentioned we have nested configurable materials.  We satisfy the first level characteristics by passing cfg_ref_in with the POSEX of the first level item (00010).  Based on these characteristic/values further configurable materials maybe exploded on the order and we won’t know their position.  We also have characteristics for those nested materials however we don’t know their POSEX in the document – so it doesn’t appear we’re able to pass their characteristics during the create process.  In the case of nested configurable materials where you’re uncertain of  their POSEX is it a two pass operation?  Meaning configure the first material (00010) , let it explode, then save, then update the document and pass the nested material characteristics?
Please tell me I’m missing something and there is an easier way.
    2)  We’re using SD_SALESDOCUMENT_CREATE we also see BAPI_INQUIRY_CREATEFROMDATA2.  What is the difference?  BAPI_INQUIRY_CREATEFROMDATA2 appears to call SD_SALESDOCUMENT_CREATE.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Variant configuration- with strategy 40

    Hi,
We have gone variant configuration. And our planning strategy is 40 with weekly lot size.
Now the sales orders are created with different characterisitic values for same material
    EX - sales order 1 - 10 pcs- size 20.
           sales order2-  15 pcs - size 40.
           sales order 3 - 20 pcs - size 30.
    here size is a characteristic.
The sales orders generated in a week are combined (because of weekly lot size) into one planned order.and into production order.
The production order thus generated  is combineinng the total quantities of different sales order.
My question is how the production departtment should how much quantity is of what size.(characteristic).
    Thanks in advance
    Kalyan

    Hello
As a Best Practice . for VCs you should activate ND in MRP1 - material masteri.e. No Planning , and there is config in SD ( requirement class for Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements ) thru which the Production Order will be created automatically as soon as Sales Order for VC materials in created..
    IMG path -
    Hope it makes sense.
pl come back in case of further questions..
