VBA:comboboxes to present same date in different formats...ADAPT WITH CHANGE IN DATE
Hi all,
I'm very new to VBA and excel development, so please take that into consideration as you read on.
I'm trying to create a work form for a database that (should) collect various information in comboboxes, including the date, the weekday, and the month... Note: most of the time, the data will be inserted the day after it's been collected. So, I wanted to create
one combobox for the date, one for the weekday, and one for the month, because I want columns for each of these in the database (If this is not necessary/efficient, please help! :) ) .
Here's what I've got so far:
'worksheet setup
Dim ws As Worksheet
Set ws = Worksheets("LookupList")
'Date dropdown setup
Dim cDateToday As Range
For Each cDateToday In ws.Range("DateList")
With Me.cboDate
.AddItem cDateToday.Value
End With
Next cDateToday
'If today is Monday, then set date to last friday, if any other weekday, set it to day before that
If Weekday(Date - 1) <> 2 Then
Me.cboDate.Value = Format(DateAdd("D", -Weekday(Date) - 1, Date), "Medium Date")
Else
Me.cboDate.Value = Format(Date - 1, "Medium Date")
End If
Problem #1: Right now, I am getting the date values from the list
DateList in the worksheet LookupList...is there a better way of doing this?
Problem #2: When the user form is run, the correct date and format shows up. However, if I change the date, the dropdown list in the combobox starts from the initial date in given list...is there anyway to bring the list closer to the current
date? Think Calendar View
Problem #3: I want the weekday and month values to be directly correlated to the date value discussed above, so hypothetically when the user form is run the correct date, weekday, and month all show up (based on the same date value), then if
I change the date, the weekday and month automatically update. Is this possible, if so how?
The reason I want this functionality is so that on a Monday, I can run the work form and it will automatically have Friday's date, weekday, month info as it opens. When I'm done with Friday, I can run it again, switch the date to the Saturday's
date (weekday and month automatically update), then repeat for Sunday.
I have tried running the same code for the weekday and month as I have for the date, and they work
until the date is changed. Once the date is changed, I have to manually change the weekday, which leads to format change, and same for month, which all leads to :( and confusion
Again, I am very new to vba and don't know much about it all and appreciate any/all help!
Thanks in advance!
/Alex
I can give you a little advice but I don't understand your comment "if I change the date, the weekday and month automatically update" Where do you want them to update?
I am assuming that your entire question is referring to a Userform with the Combobox. Is this correct?
The code can be much simpler to populate the combobox list. You already have a named range for the Dates so you can use that directly to populate the RowSource. (RowSource if the combox is on a Userform or ListFillRange for a combobox on a worksheet).
Then the WorksheetFunction Workday can be used to get the previous workday without weekend days. It also looks after the previous day when the actual date is mid week. Look up the function on the worksheet Help because you can also have a separate list
of holidays that will be excluded like weekend days.
If you are new to VBA then a tip about Help. You need to be on the worksheet and click Help to get worksheet help and in the VBA editor you click Help to call the VBA help. Don't just select Help off the taskbar when changing between the worksheet and VBA
because you will finish up with the incorrect Help file.
Example of code to assign a named range to the RowSource of a ComboBox. Named range needs to be Global and not scoped to a worksheet otherwise the worksheet name is also required.
Me.cboDate.RowSource = "DateList"
Example of code to assign the previous workday to the combobox value.
'Following line sets value to previous workday (Mon to Friday)
Me.cboDate.Value = WorksheetFunction.WorkDay(Date, -1)
Then there is another problem with ComboBoxes and dates. If the Dates are real dates on the worksheet (Not Text) then the dropdown list displays in the same format as the worksheet but when the date is selected, it displays as a serial number. This
can also be rectified with code but first I need to know what the format of the data is on the worksheet.
Can you upload a copy of your workbook because it is like a picture is worth a thousand words. Same goes for having a copy of the workbook. If it has sensitive data then create a copy and remove the sensitive data.

Manage MetaData from same photos in different formats like it was one
For example - I import photos in RAW and than export in into JPEG. Id like to manage them later like one photo. Now When I want to see also the JPEG I need to import it once again - so I have the same photo twice in different format. When I change metadata I want automatically to change it in both formats. Something like stack into one photo, but with this future - when I change metadata - it will change in both.
Hi Xiaojing,
Thank you for your answer. It is useful.
The problem is: My application is not going to play music or video, it just needs to browse over the disk and create a list of available music files including info like song name, album, artist. All this info is kept in meta-data. Some users can have a lot of music of their computers. That's why I don't want to load the whole file and wait for onMetaData event - it can take a long time. I just want to read the meta-data from the file, but not to load the all file as I need for listening the music of playing the movie.
I already applied extracting meta-data for MP3 files exactly the way you mentioned, it works fine. I only have to wait for Event.ID3 – I implemented Timer to wait until all my files are processed. Probably, if user has a lot of music on his computer, it will take a lot of time.
I can try to read AAC the way you advice.
I am really looking for implementation of your advice for reading the music file as a ByteArray and extracting meta-data. In this case we don't need to load all the file, but just to read part of it.
Do you have some code implementation?
Thank you again for your response,

Importing files with same name but different extensions
Hope I will be clear enough.
Lets say that instead of sending a file from Lightroom to an external editor, I open it directly in Photoshop.
When I'm done, I save the edited photo using the same name but in a different file format : IMG_1333.cr2 > IMG_1333.psd or IMG_1333.tif, and selecting the same folder location.
Then, I come back into Lightroom and synchronise the folder.
Why is the knew version of the picture not showing up beside the original file, despite the different extension ?
I notice that the different extensions ( .psd or .tif ) are recorded in the sidecar files field in the Metadata panel.
Of course, everything works fine if the file name is modified ( or just by selecting the "copy" option in Photoshop's "save as" dialog box ). Lightroom synchronise dialog shows the new photo to import.
So, why is Lightroom not making a difference between files with the same name but different format extensions ?
Thanks for any hint :-)
Gilles.Gilles-
I think your problem is likely that you have the option to stack the copy with the original turned on. First, right-click on one of these photos and go to the stacking menu. If Unstack is not grayed out then you have a stack -- select Unstack to reveal all copies.
To change the automatic stacking of edited copies from Photoshop, when you next choose to edit a file, in the bottom left corner of the dialog is the check box for unstacking. Clear it, and that choice should "stick" until you change it again.
Hope this helps!

Different Comboboxes in the same AdvancedDataGridColumn
I have an AdvancedDataGrid in my application that works inside a search tool and one of its columns used to be a text editor to type the desired word to search. Now i need to change from text editor to a ComboBox with different options, but when i implement it, all rows have ComboBoxes with the same data. Is it possible to create a different data provider for each row's ComboBox? I would be grateful if someone could post an example code.
You can.
What is the best thing to do? Just do it. Then decide if you like it.
You might decide to import all of the different footage into a sequence and then export to get them all the same as your other footage. But probably not. -
CBO generating different plans for the same data in similar Environments
Hi All
I have been trying to compare an SQL from 2 different but similar environments build of the same hardware specs .The issue I am facing is environment A, the query executes in less than 2 minutes with plan mostly showing full table scans and hash join whereas in environment B(problematic), it times out after 2 hours with an error of unable to extend table space . The statistics are up to date in both environments for both tables and indexes . System parameters are exactly similar(default oracle for except for multiblock_read_count ).
Both Environment have same db parameter for db_file_multiblock_read_count(16), optimizer(refer below),hash_area_size (131072),pga_aggregate_target(1G),db_block_size(8192) etc . SREADTIM, MREADTIM, CPUSPEED, MBRC are all null in aux_stats in both environment because workload was never collected i believe.
Attached is details about the SQL with table stats, SQL and index stats my main concern is CBO generating different plans for the similar data and statistics and same hardware and software specs. Is there any thing else I should consider .I generally see environment B being very slow and always plans tend to nested loops and index scan whereas what we really need is a sensible FTS in many cases. One of the very surprising thing is METER_CONFIG_HEADER below which has just 80 blocks of data is being asked for index scan.

Problem with different resultset with same data and same query in Oracle 8.1.7 and 9i
Hello,
I have been using this query in oracle 8.1.7
SELECT
ID,
AREA_NO
FROM MANAGER_AREA MGR
WHERE COMPANY_ID = :id AND
(:value < (SELECT COUNT(ROWID)
FROM MANAGER_WORK MW
WHERE MW.AREA_ID = MGR.ID AND
(MW.END_WORK IS NULL OR MW.END_WORK >= SYSDATE)))
order by AREA_NO;
In the above query I want to see rows from MANAGER_AREA table depending upon date criteria in the table MANAGER_WORK and also upon the parameter :value i.e if I pass a value as 0 I get to see records for which their is atleast 1 record in MANAGER_WORK with the date criteria and if I pass -1 then I get all the records because minimum value that count(*) would give is 0. The resultset was as expected in 8.1.7.
A couple of days back I installed PERSONAL 9i to test for testing the basic functionality of our program with the same data. This query fails and irrespective whether I pass -1 or 0 it returns me same dataset which I would have got in case if I pass 0.
I do not know whether this is a bug that has got introduced in 9i. Can anybody help me with this problem. It would be difficult for me to change the parameter send to this query as the Query is called from many different places.
Thanks in advance
Amol.I cannot use a Group by and a having statement over here. The problem with 'Group by' and 'having' clause is If I have to make a join between the two tables. When I use join then I get only rows that are linked to each other in the table.
If I use outer join to solve that problem then I have to take in consideration the other date condition. My previous query use to virtually discard the corelated query result by using -1 as the value. This will not happen in the join query.

I am having trouble getting a numbers spreadsheet to hold different formats in the same column. A column with a date formatted heading will not convert to $ for the cells below. Any suggestions would help.
Hi Wayne,
Thank you for this response. I have tried this but when I start enterring $ amounts some, such as $6.00, go in OK others such as $4.00 appear as a date ie 4 Oct 12.
Kind regards

Received 2 appointments from a customer, same date, same content, just different hours. Since then I receive message from iCal: Access to “Subject” in account “iCloud” is not permitted. The server responded "403" to CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation. In my opinion this is a bug, because iCloud is not able to handle 2 appointments at the same date with same content, just at different hours. The different hours should be enough individuality for each event on calendar.
In my opinion this is a bug, because iCloud is not able to handle 2 appointments at the same date with same content, just at different hours. The different hours should be enough individuality for each event on calendar.
Here are 4 identical events (other than time) in Calendar on my mac
Here is how they appear at iCloud.com
I concluded that iCloud has no problem with identical events seperated by time, so the question becomes what is wrong with your setup as opposed to what is wrong with iCloud. -
Ldt files for different templates have same data
i was asked to get .ldt files for different templates. I used FNDLOAD to download the files using xdotmpl.lct file. all the .ldt file when open in text has the same data. Am I doing something wrong. If the files are same why do we need seperate .ldt file for each template.
But if you developing something and you are going to version it, then
In case of single LDT
==================
Its easy as you said, we can down load all def into one file.
But, if one of the template def. got changed, all data gets downloaded unnecessarily .
Single file , so you can say its easy .
In case of multiple LDT
==================
But, if one of the template def. got changed, then download that one only into ldt.
Multiple file , little more effort is needed to create them.
But more easy to maintain, -
Using same data in 2 different grids
Hi
Im wondering if it is possible to do this in FRStudio.
I have 2 grids in one report. Both grids come from a different datasource
ie:2 different cubes.
I want to use the same prompt selection (use the same data) for both grids but without having 2 seperate prompts selections.
I can merge prompts on 2 grids coming from the same datasource but it seems I cant when they are from 2 different datasources. Is there anyway around this?
Thanks in advance.....well if it is possible as per your requirements, you can use 2 different source in the same grid
Thanks and Regards,

Import data from few tables and export into the same tables on different db
I want to import data from few tables and export into the same tables on different database. But on the target database, additional columns have been added
to the same tables. how can i do the import?
Its urgent can anyone please help me do this?
Thanks.Hello Junior DBA,
maybe try it with the "copy command".
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b12170/apb.htm
Have a look at the section "Understanding COPY Command Syntax".
Here is an example of a COPY command that copies only two columns from the source table, and copies only those rows in which the value of DEPARTMENT_ID is 30:Regards

If column2 is same for two different column1 data
I have a table say XYZ like this
COLUMN1 COLUMN2
A B
C B
N X
HJ X
I want to print if column2 is same for two different column1 data
I want to print that rowids
Please help me in thisThat's the same as I thought, but then I realised that this might result in some false positive rows.
What if column1 has also the same value for some of the rows in which column2 is the same?
If the following is your data set, what rowid's should be displayed?
row column1 column2
1 A S
2 B S
3 C T
4 C T
5 D U
6 D U
7 D V
8 E W
9 F W

Howdy!
Why are the clusters different coming out of the Read Alarm.vi and the Alarm and Event Query.vi when they have the exact same data?
The only difference is the order of two last elements.
I am leaning towards bug on this one, unless these clusters need to be distinct for some reason?

I re-jiggered my API to reverse my datatypes then applied changes to my application code.
It wasn't that painful to update.
My current understanding is that this bug affects one VI, so I decided it was easier to wrap that VI with the bugfix.
Attached is my implementation if anyone wants it too.
Cheers

On Submit, is it possible to send out 2 different static PDFs with same dynamic data
Greetings,
I have a Purchase Request Form which is filled out by a scientist... and a confirmation copy is sent back to them and another copy is sent to an Import/Export Technician. The "confirmation copy" is actually in a format easier for the import/export tech but it often confuses the scientist when they see the different terminology on the form. Anyways, I'd like to upgrade the online forms to a pdf that matches the original paper version(form A)... when the scientist submits the form then they receive a confirmation copy of the (Form A) and the import/export tech gets his copy in the modified format for his ease of use.
Form A would be the pdf version of the original paper form.
Form B would be the Import/Export Order Form which contains the order information but also contains blank fields that the shipper/receiver fill out upon arrival.
Has anyone seen an example like this before? I haven't been able to locate a similar example but it seems that it should be possible... as long as they same "data" fields were being used in both... the forms would just be static templates. Thanks!!There was a duplicate post of this question answered at:

Different output format on pdf, same report same data same user Report 10g
Hi
I’ve recently came up with a very strange problem
I have the same report ( DevSuite 10g ) running on a win2003 server and without any obvious reason the output format changes from the original –correct one - ( the underlined text is not correct , font size is decreased , line spacing differs)
The report is executed with the same user, the same parameters and the same data...
Problem is solved only after a full server restart ( restarting only the report server, web cacle will not make any difference )
Once the report is formatted strangely we cannot run it correctly (reboot is needed)
Trace and log files shows nothing strange about the execution.
Can you please tell me how to start investigate or suggest a solution?
Thank you,
MThis is a wild guess, but it could be the result of there being no default printer. If you're using an in-process Reports Server, this runs by default under the LocalSystem operating system account. By default, this account does not have a default printer. Without a default printer, Reports may not format fonts correctly when producing PDF output.
For more information, see "Printing and Font Errors When Using In-process Server" in Appendix D (Troubleshooting OracleAS Reports Services) of Oracle Application Server Reports Services Publishing Reports to the Web 10g Release 2 (10.1.2). It (like Metalink note 272017.1) suggests changing the registry to set a default printer that the LocalSystem account can "see"). Metalink note 370150.1 offers a more drastic solution -- configuring the Reports Server to run under a different operating system account that does have a default printer.
Still, the theory that this "default printer" issue is the problem is not exactly consistent with the fact that your reports do work as expected at first, although there could be explanations for why the default printer is periodically changing (startup scripts, user intervention, etc.).
Hope this helps.
