Vectorise colour filter in Motion 5

Hi. i can't find Vectorise colour filter in Motion 5 that used to be in Motion 4 - is there an equivalent with the same parameters?
Thanks

There's a couple of approaches:
1) Color Correction > Color Reduce
2) Color Correction > Gradient Colorize
Either one of those
+ Stylize > MinMax (either mode) and possibly some blur (your choice)
Under the Motion menu > Provide Motion Feedback and request to get those filters back. There were also a ton of (Library > ) Filter and Generator Image Units that were removed too. They didn't *all* work in Motion, but a good many of them did.

  • Can't find 'displace' filter in Motion 5?

Searched for displace filter in Motion 5 but doesn't come up.  Still working and visible in older projects though?
Why has Apple got rid of the displace filter?  It's one of my favourites!

No Problem - Broken might have been a bit harsh.  I had a ramp behaviour attached to the Displace filter and the values in the ramp behaviour were reset to zero when I opened the project in motion 5.
Oddly, I *do* have a displace filter.  Check it out:

  • "Red-only" livetype font colour issue in Motion 3.01

Newbie with Motion...from a new default project HDV1080i50 with black bkgrnd - using livetype font 'script' I cannot seem to get any other font colour other than red - as I move across the 'spectrum' colour picker - the red fades in and out for different colours as if I can only see a 'red channel' and no 'blue and green channels'. What am I missing? Thanks for any advice

Livefonts are actually Quicktime movies so the color is "baked" into the font - you can use an HSV filter to change it, or a Desaturate and a Colorize filter.

  • HSV filter in Motion makes clip disappear in Final Cut Pro

I'm running Motion 1.0.1 and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5. Whenever I add the HSV filter to a video clip in Motion, import the Motion file to Final Cut and play it in the timeline, it appears that the clip is missing.
Although I get no error messages from Final Cut saying that the clip is missing, it does not show up during playback. Every other layer from Motion plays as normal while the layer with the HSV filter applied to it looks as though it is gone. I should add that the video plays normally within Motion.
I could just export the video as a Quicktime movie, but I don't want to compress it.
    Anyone had a similar issue?

That's a ridiculous answer. If there is a program designed to do something it will do it. If it's not operating properly there is a reason for it.

  • Problems with Basic 3D Filter in Motion 2.0.1

    Hello helpful people,
when I apply the Basic 3D filter to a layer the layer becomes a little fuzzy. With no settings on the filter changed. If I put the filter on only a piece of the middle of the timeline my object goes from sharp to fuzzy and then sharp again.
Also with the filter on, it seems to be about 1 pixel higher in size.
Any workaround around that? Or other ideas?

as soon as I test it I will give you the "solved" points...

  • * JMF PlugIn Effect/Codec Filter for Motion Detection : Source Example *

I have noticed some posts on here recently about reading a webcams pixel stream and as at least one example the processing of that data for robotics, or another for motion detection or tracking.
This can mean a requirement for fast frame processing, setting the datasource framerate, and to implement as easily as possible; eg a simple JMF effect or codec plugin to set on the processor.
I have a link as follows to some source and examples for such plugin effects, and some of you may find this interesting if not also useful.
See an updated http://www.exactfutures.com/index02.htm for the new download. Enjoy.

  • Image plays ok but has coloured filter appears over image

After exporting a Quicktime Movie from FCP and gragging it into iDVD it plays ok but has a horrible red blue green speckled looking filter on it. The file plays perfectly in Quicktime player but looks crap it iDVD.

    Hi
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Blur Filter and Motion Tweens

Hello, I am creating an animation in which about 5 movie
clips that have blur filters move across the screen. One movie clip
starts with a gradient blur filter, and moves up the screen while
the blur disappears. This movie clip seems to slow down everything
    completely.
Is there any way to speed this up a bit?
here is a link to my very rough work in progress (note: the
    swf is very slow):
    swf
    Fla
    Cheers for any insight!
    P

I don't know that I have any good news for you on this one. I
had a similar situation where I wanted to create four 'blurry'
spotlights that roamed the screen along tween paths. What I found
was that having four different shaped 'lights' in stationary
positions, but all contained within a single movie clip with one
blurred filter was my best solution.
What may work for you is putting the five movie clips inside
one movie clip and blurring the 'containing' clip.

  • Filter and Motion tabs...

I want to save a Window layout with my Effects, Filters, and Motion tabs in their own space. Upon launch, they are always back where they originate, or not there at all. And when I double click a clip in the timeline the filters tab re-appears in the viewer window. Any way I can override this feature?

I don't think you can change this. I have tried many times to seperate the tabs from their original windows but they always return open reopening that window or returning to FCP. It seems as if the window locations can only be saved but no locations when tearing off tabs.

  • Motion 5 freezes after applying the keying filter

Why does my screen freeze (four or five yellow/green bands, curser turns to rotating ball of death) when i try to apply the keying filter in Motion 5?

What's your hardware configuration, mainly what GPU do you have?

  • What is the Edge Work filter called in Motion 5?

I'm doing the Tutorials in 'How to Cheat in Motion' which is based on Motion 4. It asks me to use the Edge Work filter in the stylize section of the filters menu. The only problem is that filter isn't there. It has an Edge filter but that doesn't have the same parameters as the Edge Work filter. Is there a new name for this filter in Motion 5?

You're kind of stuck. I've been able to recover some "missing" filters from Motion 4 for use in Motion 5 (Primatte RT, for one) but I can't recover Edge Work -- it is *obsolete*. The available parameters for Edge Work were: Radius, Blur, Amount, Smooth. You will have to figure out how to combine what's left (Edges or Line Art) with filters like Gaussian Blur (for blurring/smoothing - perhaps before *and* after) and perhaps something like Hue/Saturation (for the Value parameter) or Brightness and Contrast to substitute for Amount. Experiment with mixing other filter types as well... With M5, you can publish the pertinent parameters for convenience and creating a work-alike setup.

  • Scaled down video in Motion 4 jittering

I'm working with Motion 4 on a macbookpro and FCP7. While I'm experienced in FCP, I'm still relatively new to MOTION.
I'm working with some Motion templates, most of which I purchased from finalcutprotemplate.com I'm editing in an XDCAM EX 1080i/60 sequence with same footage.
On several of the templates where I'm placing a EX clip in the template and
the video is scaled to about 25% or so in a small box (i.e. video wall type effect), the video is jittering.
Now, I know to expect this in Final Cut Pro, but I expected to get better
results from Motion. I realize you're taking alot of digital information and pushing it into a small space, and that results in the jitter, but I though a motion program like this is designed to eliminate that?
Is there a way of eliminating that jitter when scaling video down? I'm not talking about while it's actually changing size...I'm referring to just it sitting there static as a smaller image playing.
FYI - The video in most cases is eventually going to come full screen, so blurruing the scaled portion of the clip, while possible, is probably not the best solution.
    Any input would be appreciated.

You can also try the de-interlace filter in Motion - set the fields to interpolate...
And use the Link behavior instead of keyframing. Behaviors often are superior to keyframing.

  • Motion clip disappears while working in 3d

In Motion 4.0.3, I'm working in 3d mode with a clip I've dropped in a drop zone.  I have also applied a False Color Filter to the clip.  When I rotate the camera angle, the clip disappears.  I think this has something to do with the filter.  How can I get the clip to remain visible the entire time?  I'm about to try to apply the filter before I export from FCP, which I think will work, but I would like to know if I can use the filter in Motion and make it work.  (The clip is exported from FCP 7.0.3 in .mov format.)

Tried it again and applying a filter before exporting from FCP did fix the problem.  Still would like to know about the problem with applying the filter to a video clip in motion when changing camera angles in 3d though.

  • Very bad interlaced effect on Chroma Key filter

    Hallo everyone,
Does anybody know why when I try to apply a croma key filter on Motion the image I get is like this ?
while when I use FC I get best result? Like this:
Is there any option to set in Motion Prefs? Thank you
    iMac G5, CD, C2D, MB Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac G5, CD, C2D, MB Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac G5, CD, C2D, MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

DV has a basic problem when trying to do a chroma key - that is it achieves its compression in the color channel - its color information is 1/4th that of its luminance resolution.
This is a quickie - using Conduit to key in Motion:
You can find out about Conduit here:
    http://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=conduit15&sub=samples
Check out the movie on keying DV for some insight into the limitations of keying DV. dvGarage also sells dvMatteBlast that handles all of this - a very nice product and they have a test version you can try...

  • Motion filters no longer accessible from "filters" button

After installing Leopard, my Motion filters (image control, stylize etc. are no longer visible). I can see this party plugs, such as Fx Factory, but none of the Motion ones. I was wondering if I should reinstall motion as a whole...

I've got the same problem too. I did an Archive & Install of Leo. I haven't used case-sensitive drive formatting which caused a similar problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5527981&#5527981
The only filter I have is Primatte RT.
I can see the rest of the filter files:
    Motion.app/Contents/LibraryContent/FIlters/
But Motion doesn't seem to know where they are. I looked for some reference to filters in the plist files to redirect Motion to the filters, but can't find any reference.
