Verizon Edge Program

I have been a customer of Verizon's since 1992. At this time and over the last 11 years my account has not had less that 4 active lines at any given time. I also need to mention that I pay my bill, sometimes making arrangements 3-4 times a month. Let me repeat, Verizon is getting 3-4 payments a month with each payment ranging from $150.00 to $300.00.
This past Saturday my husband paid $200.00, on Sunday I scheduled a payment for $300.00 and yesterday my daughter paid 266.55 on our account. Monday morning after paying $500.00 I woke to my service being suspended. So at 7:00AM I called Verizon who's representative told me that their was a glich in their system where it did not acknowledge my second payment so my services was suspended.
Yesterday I call Verizon because my daughter was having issues with her phone so we decided to call Verizon and get her (Iphone) and myself a new phone (Galaxy Note 3) through the Edge Program. How about Verizon told me that (BTA) Bill to Account was suspend on my account because my service was suspended the day before. Four calls yesterday and 24 hours later Verizon is telling me they can make me an offer, of course I want to hear this.
You paid us $200.00 on Saturday, $300.00 on Sunday, $266.55 on Tuesday plus my daughter paid another $140.00 just so she could have a phone. So the offer we have for you is, if you trade in your Galaxy S4 we will give you $165.00 as a trade, $300.00 coupon and you pay $234.00 for the Galaxy Note 3. My response was, that's your offer? Aside from the $906.00 Verizon got in the last 4 days, pay us another $234.00 and you can have the phone you want O_o, really dude! So that means in the last now 5 days Verizon would have gotten $1140.00 because a glich in their system did not acknowledge my payment and my services was suspended. So after 11 years of loyalty and payments 3-4 times a month my account is not eligible for the Edge Program. If I didn't know it 11 years ago, I know it now. Verizon only has loyalty to itself, keep feeding me your money and I will (removed) on you in the end.
The True Meaning of Loyalty and Customer Service
Although customer loyalty is often achieved through offers, discount coupons,
rebates and other kinds of rewards, long-term customer loyalty can only be
created by making your customers feel that they are your number one priority.

Just an obsevation from reading your comments
Point 1.  The 906.00 dollars you paid VZW was money owed for prior service and was paid late because you mentioned service suspension on one of your lines. - The issue was determined to be a Verizon issue and NOT my issue which I was compensated for due to the fact that my payment was in the Verizon system.
Point 2.  You have a very iffy payment plan at best where a number of people are making different payments at different times. I would guess that over time the ontime payment history is not perfect.- Doesn't matter who makes the payment or how, Verizon's system should recognize the payment exists and perform accordingly.
Point 3. The prior moneys paid that you owed should have nothing to do with renegoiating a new contract and a new phone. What did you think VZW sould have done, forgive the payments because of your perceived customer loyalty. *- Never once did I imply that I wanted any payments forging, and snce you are 'perceiving' the situation and speaking out the side of your neck,  check with Mr. Mead, his take on this is a lot different than your's. You may just learn something!!
Point 4. You were probably denied the Edge program because of iffy and unusually payment practices of the past. Again, check with Mr. Mead, his take on this is a lot different than your's again since I was compensated for this whole issue!!
Point 5.  To build customer confidence with VZW, make only one payment per month and pay it in full. Make sure it arrives on time.  Do not wait until the due date to pay it, pay it early all the time.  Being a customer of VZW for 11 years is not the only think they look at before offering you a contract. Me being with Verizon for 11 years and paying my bill is the only customer confidence I continue to build. Since you have never walked a mile in my shoes and unless your life is perfect what gives you the right to tell me how to pay my bills? I feed off self-righteous comments such as your's and that is the reason I was compensated more than you maybe aware of.

  • Can i have more information about verizon edge program

What is the deal with Verizon edge program?  Does anyone know that if you have 4 lines on your account if just one person on your account wants to participate in the Verizon edge program, is this possible? or does everyone on your account have to participate.  Also, I have a few more questions, Let pretend I sign up for Verizon edge and do not want to edge up after 30 days with paying at least 60 percent of the phone that I just got off (which I think is kind of pointless)  So I continue paying on my phone for 20 months, then the Verizon edge program is over in 24 months correct?  Then after that, then could I go back to new every two program if I wanted to, after Verizon edge contract ends?  Then I can keep the phone that I paid for correct?  This is all really strange to me.  If I pay full retail price for a phone, I do not want to give it back to Verizon for them to resell.  It sounds like a leasing program to me.  Why would you want the continued payments on a phone, like a never ending credit card bill.  Anyway, all I want the Verizon edge for is get an early upgrade and a payment plan for a phone, then pay off the phone and keep it for the remainder of the Verizon edge plan, then end it.
Also, I do not have very good luck with phones working the entire time, that is what concerns me the most.  I have a s3 currently and it is completely messed up for the past couple of months.  The phone is acting nuts, drops calls, no reception,  cuts out, powers down at 46 percent.  So how is this going to happen if im the Verizon edge program and something happens to my phone, then  I cant put a back up phone on my account for a replacement.?  If the phone is defective and one of the stipulations of the plan is to return your phone in good working condition, then how would one do this is this situation happened?

The Verizon Edge payment option is basically a "leasing" program. The New Every Two program was retired in 2011.

  • How does an account holder return their old phone when they edged up through the Verizon Edge Program? I have wasted way too much of my time trying to do this and am certainly disgusted with Verizon's communication and website for this.

I have been searching this helpless website for 3 nights after work trying to figure out how to get my old phone back to "WHEREVER" it needs to go. I am soo frustrated, I'm ready to throw this phone away and forget it. I've read through posts and tried the links left to only be taken where I've already been, with NO LUCK AT ALL. I've even called verizon myself to get, yet again, NO HELP!! Can anyone give me the real answer as to what to do.???
I've got the box I received my new phone in, with the plastic bag for the old phone and some papers the clearly read, "Keep this for your records" nothing that says RETURN LABEL. Don't have an address, either!

This is the same response other community users have gotten, there is not option to print a label. This is also where li was told to go look for the receipt when I card
Verizon. THERE IS NOTHING THERE TO PRINT. I've tried to include a link to that page, so you can view yourself,  but I'm thinking it won't post in this community discussion.
So, with this, I'm still stuck in the same situation... HOW DO I RETURN THIS PHONE? WHY CANT VERIZON EMAIL ME A LABEL DIRECTLY???

  • Opinion on the "Verizon Edge" program please

I am contemplating on signing up for the Edge. My phone and my daughters phone are crap now and we seriously need to upgrade but aren't due until May of 2015. My monthly bill is already ridiculous, I really can't have it costing more. So of course the incentive for the edge cutting back your monthly bill looks appealing, but is it really true? If I have 3 lines and pay 200 a month, will my bill be lower if I switch to the edge AND upgrade to a better phone (iPhone6 for me & iPhone 5c for my daughter)?????? Opinions?

Actually you should check facts before you make statements.
If you calculate the total cost of ownership over 2 years and you have a plan with 10 GB or more of data, you will almost always end up paying less with Edge than you will with a Contract plan. You will do this and actually have lower up front costs. Don't let any prices fool you, you are paying for the full price of the phone whether you do a contract or Edge.
    Math:
    Edge iPhone 6 $27.08/month for 24 months, $80/10GB/month x 24 months, $15/month access fee x 24 months
    Total cost with Edge $2930
    Contract cost - iPhone 6 $199 plus $30 upgrade fee, $80/10GB/month x 24 months, $40/month access fee x 24 months
    Total cost with Contract $3109
Contract is $179 more expensive than Edge!  You just think and are getting fooled into thinking you are only paying $199 for the iPhone,
If you have a plan with less than 10 GB, the favor is in getting a 2 year contract.

  • Will the Verizon Edge program be available for business customers?

non profit that's looking to upgrade without paying the full amount.

  • Verizon Edge: Fully Explained, Plus a few questions

At first glance Verizon Edge sound good, with a second look it seems to be a huge scam, but with enough research it seems it depends on the scenario.
This document excludes information regarding new customers who haven't had 6 months of good payment etc.
This document makes some assumptions which are located at the bottom in the form of questions to be answered by a Verizon representative.
The Basic Shared Plan, Subsidized phones and how it all works.
    The Plan
Unlimited talk and text have become a given with Verizon, so it all comes down to data. The way the plans work are quite simple, there is a set price for the pool of data, For example my family has 6GB of data for $80. The price increases or decreases by $10 per 2GB(Not including very small amounts or large amounts) --- 10GB is $100, we'll use this number later.
After that you pay a flat price per device depending on the device(All devices use data from the same pool - when the data runs out you're charged $15 per 1GB over(rounded up to the next GB -- 4.05 rounds up to 5GB) or you have the option to upgrade your plan by 2GB for $10 more a month.
Smartphones are $40/month, basic phones are $30/month, tablets and other devices are $10/month
    The Phone
The typical subsidized smartphone is $200 when you sign up for a 2 year contract. This price can vary with special offers or more expensive versions of phones(ex: 64GB iPhone over the 16GB one)
So you just got a $600 phone for $200, but that doesn't make the phone a $200 phone, and that doesn't mean you only payed $200 either, the other $400 is technically still payed for by you.
The remainder of the phone cost is nested within the monthly flat-rate access charge.
$400 over 24 months = ~$16.67 (of the $40) per month is actually going towards the phone.YOU ALWAYS PAY THE FULL PRICE OF THE PHONE WHETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT.
The difference, whether you have your own phone or are month to month you will pay $40 access fee a month no matter what, so if you're not getting a subsidized phone every 2 years you're giving Verizon more money in a way.
Total Cost with the Shared Plan
    1 Person with 10GB Data($100 + $40) x 24months + $200 = $3,560
    2 People with 10GB Data
    ($100 + ($40 x 2)) x 24months + ($200 x 2) = $4,720
    3 People with 10GB Data
    ($100 + ($40 x 3)) x 24months + ($200 x 3) = $5,880
Verizon Edge (Check bottom for assumptions and questions.)
You still have unlimited talk and text and the data works the same way all for the exact same prices.
The monthly access charge for each device is where things change.
If you have 8GB of data in your pool or less, this charge is reduced by $10 ($40 --> $30)
If you have 10GB of data in your pool or more, this charge is reduced by $25($40 --> $15)In most cases it is cheaper to have 10GB while in the Verizon Edge program than to have less.If you have a really low amount of data or only have 1 or 2 people in your plan this may not be a good option for you.
These reduced prices only apply while you are still making payments on a Verizon Edge phone.
You do not pay a subsidized price for a phone although you are saving the same amount or more through the reduced access charge.
You will pay the full retail price of a phone over 24 months with no down payment. (ex: $600 phone = $25/month)
Total Cost with Verizon Edge (assuming 10GB and a $600 phone)
    1 Person($100 + ($15 + $25)) x 24months = $3,360
    2 People($100 + (($15 + $25) x 2)) x 24months = $4,320
    3 People($100 + (($15 + $25) x 3)) x 24months = $5,280
    What's Good About It?
If you have a 10GB plan or higher(Or upgrade to it), and your phone is $600:Your monthly cost will be EXACTLY the same..
    How do you benefit then?
You save the $200 you payed for a phone each 2 years.
You can change phones once a year instead of every two years and still have the same monthly cost as you do without Edge.
If you 'Edge Up' early you have to finish paying up to 50% of the phones cost right then(Normally payed off by 1 year)
    Edging UpWhen you 'Edge up':
50% or more of your phones total cost must have been payed off and it must be at least 30 days since the last Edge up.Typically a year or longer in unless you pay the remainder of the 50% at the time you Edge up
You must return your current Edge phone.
This phone must be in good condition as determined by Verizon.Or there will be a Fee
Must be Returned within 14 days of Edging upOr there will be a Fee
Switching to Verizon Edge (While in contract)
    Requirements for eligibility:
Contract must be from before 11/13/13
    Offer to switch expires 6/30/14
You must turn in your current Verizon phone(Subsidized phone on your current contract)
Like I said early, in the basic plan you technically pay for the other $400(more or less) through your monthly access charge.
In order to recoup this money they want the phone back.
In most cases this is at a lost to the customer, for example,
    $600 phone, $200 paid, $16.67/month toward the $400 after.
I'm 16 months completed which means I payed an estimated $466.67 of the $600 phone
    Questions
I assumed there isn't but: Is there monthly financing fee?
    Any other minor fee?
Do you pay the ~$30 activation fee when Edging up as you normally do when upgrading phones?
What happens once you've payed the full cost of the phone?
I understand that you no longer get the reduced monthly access charge.
My question is, if you payed off the full cost, do you have to return the phone anyway?
If your phone is not eligible to trade back(Damaged or other)
If you want to edge up which scenario is true:
There is a fee because the phone is damaged
You have to pay the full cost of your current phone(rather than 50%)
    other
    When switching to Verizon Edge:
If you choose not to give back your current phone or it is not in returnable condition what happens?
    I heard it's a $200 charge?
The remaining balance on my current phone would be $133.33 ($600 - $466.67) would that be the charge?
You are not eligible for switching to Verizon Edge?

A few corrections to your post.
When "edging up" you CAN pay the extra to get you to 50% of the cost of the phone. This information is from the Edge FAQ, #2 under "Contract and Payment Plan"
Can I pay more than my scheduled monthly Verizon Edge installment?
No, unless you are either seeking to Edge Up to a new device, which requires that at the time of the Edge Up transaction you pay at least 50% of the device following the initial 30 days of the Verizon Edge Agreement; or you are seeking to pay off 100% of your Verizon Edge Agreement, which you may do at any time.
For your point in #3, at least currently, you may be able to do an "Early Edge" if you are currently under contract. From #4 under "General Information". While it simply states you must return the phone on the line when placing your Edge order, I assume you must return the phone purchased when signing your current contract.
What is Early Edge Open Enrollment?
Early Edge Open Enrollment is a limited-time option to participate in the Verizon Edge program. You can get your choice of the latest smartphone sooner than you would under a traditional 2-yr contract.
If you’ve had your current phone since 2/1/14, you may be eligible to purchase a 4G LTE smartphone through the Verizon Edge program. You’ll pay for your phone in monthly payments.
To be eligible for Early Edge, you must meet all the following:
    Be eligible for Verizon Edge
Have had your phone since 2/1/14 or longer
Return your phone in good working condition*
The Early Edge Open Enrollment option will be available 2/13/14 - 6/30/14.
Note: You must return the phone that was on your line at the time you placed your Verizon Edge order, and it must be returned to Verizon Wireless within 14 days of receiving your new phone. If you do not, you may be charged a non-return fee of up to $200.
Also, your last statement is only valid if the phone active on the line is the phone you purchased when entering into the Edge agreement. You can only Edge Up by returning the phone you purchased on the Edge agreement(or authorized replacement phone such as warranty replacement or insurance replacement). You cannot purchase a smartphone, subsequently activate a basic phone on the Edge line and then return the basic phone when Edging up simply because it is the active phone on the line Edging Up.
Also from the Edge FAQ, #2 & #4 under "Edge Up and Returns"
What are the eligibility requirements to Edge Up with Verizon Edge?
To be eligible to Edge Up, you must:
Have had your Edge phone for at least 30 days
Have paid at least 50% of the full retail price of the phone
Return the Edge phone in good working condition with no significant damage, as determined by Verizon Wireless
How do I Edge Up when I'm ready?
There are three ways that you can Edge Up:
Bring your original Edge phone (or authorized replacement) to a Verizon Wireless retail location where a representative will help you complete the Edge Up process.
Complete the Edge Up process online using My Verizon.
Call Customer Service at 1-800-922-0204 and they’ll help you complete the Edge Up process over the phone.
Beginning April 13th, you’ll be able to complete the Edge Up process at select Verizon Wireless authorized retailers.
If your previous phone is an iPhone with iOS 7, you must disable Find My iPhone prior to sending it back. To disable Find My iPhone:
    Tap Settings.
    Tap iCloud.
    Tap Find My iPhone.
You’ve successfully disabled Find My iPhone.
Note: If you use My Verizon or Customer Service, you’ll need to ship your original Edge phone (or authorized replacement) back using the shipping label provided by Verizon Wireless when you complete the Edge Up process. You’ll be billed for the new phone when you Edge Up. However, once it’s determined by Verizon Wireless that your original Edge phone was returned in good working order, you will receive a credit back for the remainder owed on the original Edge phone.

  • Verizon Edge Truth

So after endless research and speaking with CS reps, I've decided to share the interesting details that I've come across for any that may be interested.
Background:  About 2 weeks ago I contacted Verizon in regards to the Edge program.  I "thought" I had finally found a plan good enough for me to bite, considering I have a Family Nationwide Talk/Text plan with Unlimited data on all lines - so it better be worth it.  Was this $160/month for 4 lines unlimited talk/text with 10gb of data on the Edge program too good to be true?... Read on my friends....
Day 1:  I try to switch my plan online to the Edge plan.  No luck.  So I call Verizon and speak with a CS rep and explain to her what I'd like to do and she's more than accommodating.  I ask her could I bring my own phones to the new plan (which are off contract) and she says absolutely.  I then ask how long these low rates/discounted lines would be in effect - she says for as long as my account/lines remain open.  So at this point I'm happy, finally a decent plan with a decent rate locked in.  I later asked if I could set all this up through myVerizon online and she said sure or she could do it herself whichever I prefer.  Thinking that maybe I missed a step online earlier, I politely told her that I would just go online and set it up myself so that I could specifically see everything on my screen.  I thanked her for her time and off I went.
Later that day I try to set it up, again, no option other than the MoreEverything plan - which is more expensive.
Day 2: I call Verizon to just set it up over the phone.  This is where it gets interesting.  The CS rep I end up speaking with is a complete 180 from the last one I spoke with.  She tells me that its not possible but did check with her supervisor to confirm (she claimed).  Basically as she stated, you cannot BYOP (bring your own phone) into the edge plan.  You have to upgrade all lines - all at once.  Which I'm definitely not interested in doing.  So out of pure curiosity, I ask her "if" I did upgrade all lines would the discounted rates still apply at the end of the term or would I have to constantly upgrade phones every couple of years.  She could not answer that specifically - so I chalked that up as a grey area in the plan (in other words a no).  So then, I decide to prod a little bit... Verizon, as I would assume, is offering this plan in competition with AT&T Next, who by the way explicitly states that you can BYOP - no requirement to upgrade.   So the CS rep and I get into the conversation about AT&T's plan and at this point I begin laughing when she becomes defensive and tells me that its a gimmick and that I'd have to still purchase a new phone on that network because my iPhones wouldn't work and aren't compatible.  This was either a lie or the CS rep is ignorant to the fact that during Verizon's C block spectrum purchase, the FCC mandated that they could not implement sim card locks on newer devices as part of the agreement.  So, for any that are interested iPhone 5c and 5s are completely unlocked and compatible on any GSM network - and are LTE capable.  iPhone 5 is compatible up to HSPA+ (I've tested it).
I politely ended the conversation after we got into the discussion about the MoreEverything plan. She actually conceded to the fact that my current plan was better than what they were offering and that it would actually cost more to switch.  (Hey at least we agreed on that!)
So there's my story in a nutshell.  I've been a loyal Verizon customer for years but I don't play the Smoke and Mirrors game.  So Verizon, if you're reading this,  please make customers a legitimate offer if you intend to keep them.  I've received phone calls prior to this trying to get me to switch plans but the Edge plan was the only one that came close and it is definitely not what its cracked up to be.  Right now, I'm rooting for AT&T in this fight until Verizon clears up any misconception/false advertising in their plans.  Until then, I may post this on other sites just to make customers more aware and clear up any confusion.
    R/
    Josh

Ok so I did some more research.  According to FAQ's on Verizon website, this contradicts your last statement.  Below is the link and a snapshot from the page.  Maybe I'm missing something or not interpreting this the right way...

  • Be Careful, Found out Verizon Edge is Deceptive

The information contained in this thread is true and there is no deviation from the truth.  Has anyone else experienced this?
This letter is to notify you about a problem I am experiencing with my xxx-xxx-xxxx line, which has no come to a resolution.  Up until March 6, 2015, this line was on the Verizon Edge program, which I decided to pay off in full with an amount of $271.23.  According to the information I had available to me and communicated by the Verizon store (February 25, 2014), the following was believed to be true:
I traded in my phone (Nokia Lumia 928).
I took ownership of a Nokia Lumia Icon under the Verizon Edge program, 24 months at $22.91 a month.
Once the phone (Edge agreement) was paid at least 50%, I can trade my phone in towards a new phone.
I would be charged a $35.00 upgrade fee and the taxes for the total cost of the phone.  This would appear on my next bill.
With the Verizon Edge program I am not obligated under any contract, however if I were to cancel the line, I would be responsible for the remaining balance of the Edge agreement.
Right now I am carrying around 2 cellular phones and decided to consolidate. I took into consideration what I was told about not being obligated once the Edge agreement was paid in full.  On March 6, 2015, I decided to pay the balance off, hence allowing to remove that line of service.  After the payment was made, a new screen was available indicating that I could not upgrade my phone or end the contract until 06/13/2016.
I called Verizon Customer Service on March 6, 2015 at 2:55PM EST and spoke with Betty.  Betty looked into this further and indicated that I would receive a text within 1 hour with the new contract date.  I did not receive a text, however several hours later I checked online and the contract date changed to 11/25/2014.  I called Verizon Customer Service on March 6, 2015 at 8:30PM EST and spoke with Kerri Ann, who filed a dispute to see if the contract can be moved back.  She indicated I should hear something back within 72 hours.
After giving it more than 72 hours and not receiving any correspondence, I called Verizon Customer Service on March 10, 2015 at 12:20PM EDT and spoke with Robin to check status of the contract date.  Robin indicated that the contract date is still 11/25/2015, as I signed a contract on 11/23/2013 for a 2 year agreement.  I inquired as to how I could pay full price for my phone and still be in a contract.  I was told several times that I couldn’t be in a contract and on an Edge program at the same time. This completely confused and contradicted the situation, as I was just in an Edge program.  I explained that this was extremely deceptive, as it never showed or indicated at any time on the website I was under a contract, just the Edge agreement. I tried multiple times to understand how I could be under a contract, when I did speak to Janet of customer service on 12/9/14 at 3:40pm EST.  At that time, it was explained to me that this telephone number was out of contract either 7/2014 or 10/2014.  Robin started to get nasty with me and I immediately asked for a supervisor, which as first, she was unwilling to transfer me.  I spoke with a supervisor, Briana, who indicated I am not eligible for Edge and would need to wait until at least a few months before my contract end date.  This did not resolve my issue at all or explain what was going on with this line.
I am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service I have received so far and believe that the Verizon Edge program is deceptive in nature.  It advertises that if you pay the Edge agreement off in full, you are no longer under any obligation to keep the line.  I have attached a few screen captures showing this deception and how a consumer would be led to believe the same as I did. The second deception was that I paid tax twice on the same item.  At the point that a Verizon Edge program is initiated, on my first bill after the phone was received I had a charge for taxes for the full purchase price of the device.  At the point that I paid the Edge agreement off, I was charged tax on the remaining balance, which I believe is illegal and needs to be resolved.

To start with last year the upgrade fee was only $30, so this was not correct: "I would be charged a $35.00 upgrade fee and the taxes for the total cost of the phone.  This would appear on my next bill." Also when you go on edge there is no upgrade fee due to you paying the full retail, so you would not see this fee.
Also if you where in contract at the time of going into edge you would have been required to return your old device? Did you have to do that?
Also, When doing an early edge, you would still have to complete the currently contract before being able to upgrade no matter where you are in the edge process. *Other people on here will tell you different (rcschnoor), but you are an example of that. "the contract date is still 11/25/2015, as I signed a contract on 11/23/2013 for a 2 year agreement."* Luckily, I was advised of this by a customer service rep.
Sorry you where given wrong info. I hope you get it all figured out!

  • Cancelling with verizon while on verizon edge

I have been a customer with Verizon since 2012.  last year on my upgrade in May I switched 2 of my lines to the Verizon edge program. we got the galaxy note 3.  my question is, when may comes around again and I am eligible to upgrade per the Verizon edge, but I decide to cancel my Verizon service instead. do I get charged any fees etc. and do I have to turn the phones back in or no?

You don't have to wait until May you are not under contract, but you are liable for the balance of the Edge payments, if you login to My Verizon - My Plans and Services (select a device), there is a link to view edge agreement where it will show you exactly where you are in the payments, such as:
This device was purchased under a Verizon Edge Agreement.
This agreement allows you to upgrade (“Edge Up”) after March 07,2015 and your remaining balance is below $524.99

  • Verizon Edge & Rooting

I am an experienced Android user and I've been pretty interested in the Verizon Edge program. However, being the enthusiast that I am, I do prefer to root my phone to have administrative access and I understand the possible consequences that one can encounter if not experienced with the operating system or the process of rooting. My question is, if I am on the Verizon Edge program, am I prohibited from rooting my device? I only consider this as I have to return it in order to get a new one. Is there anything in the official Verizon Edge contract that prevents me or will it void the contract (not the warranty, I understand that the warranty is fully void upon modifying the devices system files). Thank you for your time.

They might consider it a non-working device when you trade it in for the next device. Also discussion of modifying the phones themselves is frowned upon here because of the Terms of Service for the community.

  • $200 Trade In Gift Card Offer with Verizon Edge

I was informed by two Best Buy associates that I could trade in any working smartphone for a $200 gift card that could be applied toward a purchase of a Galaxy S5 or a Note 4.  Both associates told me that the gift card could be used for a two year contract renewal or the Verizon Edge program.  If I chose to go with Verizon Edge then the gift card and any cash that I wanted to put toward the retail cost of the phone would be applied before the net difference was spread over a 24 month period and would reduce the monthly amount payable to Verizon for the phone cost.  .
I bought a black Note 4 last week and renewed for two years at that time but the Edge program was offered at that time and I was told it would be reduced with the $200 gift card from the trade in.   I went back to my local Best Buy store to return it because they now had a white phone in stock which they did not have last week.  Also, since last week Verizon has also reduced their data plans and I now have a 10GB plan so wold qualify for the $25 discount per phone line instead of $15 with the 6GB plan.   When I went to return the phone I told the representative what I wanted to accomplish and they said it would be no problem to apply the gift card, cash and change to the Edge plan.
When it got to the point to apply the gift card from the return and the cash I had previously paid they told me they could not do that and I would have to either pay the full retail price for the phone or spread the $749.99 cost across 24 months. They showed me on their screen that they did not have the capability to apply the payment.
Why was I told by two other associates that this was possible and was the representative tonight correct in saying it is not possible to apply the reduction.  She did say that if I had bad credit and Verizon required a down payment  that she could then accept a payment to reduce the cost of the phone but becuase I had good credit she could not do so. She then offered to put the price of the phone on a credit card which I would then have to pay monthly.
    Please advise.

    Greetings djcarree,
I realize this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but avm5689 is correct: Best Buy gift cards cannot be applied as payment towards devices on Verizon Edge, AT&T Next, or Sprint Easy Pay plans. To apply any gift card to the purchase of a mobile phone, customers must purchase the device as a traditional upgrade (incurring any applicable activation fees) or as a replacement device at its full retail price. Common Questions About Verizon EDGE
That said, it's disappointing to read you may have received misinformation regarding available payment options during your initial visit. We rely on our in-store reps to provide accurate and detailed information on our partner's services and our own policies, so it's disconcerting to learn of situations where that expectation may not have been met.
If you're still in need of assistance and have not already done so, I'd encourage you to return to your local store when the have the chance. As I mentioned above, you'll need to re-purchase your Note 4 as either a replacement device or traditional upgrade in order to apply your trade-in gift cards towards the sale. Please also note that mobile phones can only be returned or exchanged within 14 days of the purchase date, and that additional carrier restrictions may apply.

have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone user for years.I was right! Or so I thought.... The Note 3 has been horrible. I am on my second phone(replaced it under warranty) and it still freezes, shuts off on its own, and will not come back on for long periods of time. Having had enough, I decided to EDGE Up to another device. On March 16th I tried to edge up my device online but was unable to. I immediately called to figure out what the problem was. Back in October I had a mix up in my billing where I had set up a payment. It was not done properly by customer service and as a result my line was cut off. I called the EXACT day it went off, filed a complaint about the lack of follow through for my arranged payment, and thought I had it straightened out as the payment was made that same day. That incident, although it was a Verizon error, caused my Edge Contract to be "hotlined". I spent an hour on the phone on March 16th clearing the whole mess up. When the conversation ended, the Verizon representative admitted it was a Verizon error, documented everything, and then told me she was filing a release for the hotline hold that would take a couple of days. Her name was Linda and I stupidly trusted what she said.
The days passed as I prepared to have a major foot surgery and to get my classroom straight before I would be out recovering for 3 weeks. All the time, my Samsung continued to glitch out like it has since I got it! While sitting on the couch recovering, I decided to deal with the phone issue again and EDGE UP. I figured 10 days latter, Linda would have taken care of the issue. Unfortunately, I faced the same problem and was told it was not eligible to edge up at this time. BACK on the phone again, 2 supervisors, 3 customer service reps. ( JOE from New York being the rudest customer service rep. I have EVER worked with) and 4 frustrating HOURS latter, Jason, the equally rude supervisor from Rochester, New York, informed me that Linda gave me BAD information, there was NOTHING he could do, and I am NOT eligible until April 14th!!!!! The WORST experience I have EVER had with a company. They were completely inept, rude, and not concerned about my time, my frustration, or the problems I was facing with their product in the LEAST. I have 4 LINES on Verizon that I am going to talk to Sprint about buying out. It was a horrible experience, and I can NOT believe I have no recourse or anyone to talk to....

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • Verizon, can you help me with my Edge Program order?

At the beginning of March, I ordered a new Motorola Ultra for my wife via the Edge Program.  Her Samsung Stellar has been giving her problems and we decided to upgrade her phone.
On March 10, 2014, we received an email stating that the phone had shipped.  On March 12, 2014 we received notice that FedEx had the phone and that it was available for pick-up at the terminal here in Columbus, Ohio. Upon arrival at the FedEx terminal that evening, my wife was informed that the package was severely damaged and that it would probably be best to refuse delivery which she did.
The following day, I contacted Verizon customer service to inquire what was needed on my end to get another phone.  I was told at that time that nothing was needed and that upon receipt of the damaged package and phone that Verizon would ship a new phone.
FedEx shows that Verizon received the damaged package on March 18, 2014.  We waited and no new phone was delivered and we did not receive an email stating that one had been shipped.
On March 23, 2014, I contacted Verizon customer service and was told by the representative that she would enter a “ticket” to try and expedite the new phone being sent.  She said the phone may not have been checked in yet and that might be causing the delay.  She commented about entering a new order for the phone.  This representative assured me that the new phone would be shipped by Wednesday or Thursday of that week (March 26 or 27). We waited and received no new email indicating the phone had been shipped.
On Friday, March 28, 2014, I again contacted customer service and was initially informed by the representative that it did not appear the damaged package (phone) had been received by Verizon.  Upon checking, she found that it had been received but surmised it had not been “checked in.”  She then transferred me to Technical Assistance to see if they could find the status of the returned phone.  I spoke with this gentleman who ultimately informed me that when my wife refused delivery of the damaged package (phone) that that contract was nullified and that a new contract was needed.  He said that it appeared that a new contract had been initiated but that the terms had yet to be agreed to and finalized.  He informed me that I would need to go online that evening and resubmit a new order for a phone under the “Edge Program” and agree to the terms.  He also told me that he would call at 8:15 p.m. that night to assist me with this order.  This person never called as promised.
On Sunday, March 30, 2014, I again attempted to place a new order for the Motorola Ultra to replace my wife’s phone.  I found that there was an “Edge Program Agreement” already in place for this number even though I had never taken possession of the new phone.  I again contacted customer service and after some lengthy conversation was assured the “Edge Agreement” would be removed on Monday, March 31, 2014.  Also, that after that time, I would be able to enter a new phone order to replace my wife’s Samsung phone.  This person said that it takes 7-10 days for Verizon to check-in the returned phone and that that was Verizon policy.  She apologized for the previous erroneous information from the other customer service representatives and that she was following policy.  Needless to say I was neither happy nor convinced.  I was somewhat amazed when, at the end of our conversation, she actually asked me if I was satisfied with the customer service I had received.  I found this exceptionally inappropriate considering the circumstances.  This told me she was only following a “script” in her dealing with customers.
On March 31, 2014, around 7:00 p.m., I checked my Verizon account online in an attempt to again order a new phone.  The Edge Agreement is still attached to the number of the phone I am trying to replace.

  • After 11 years with Verizon, they are trying to get away with ripping me off... Edge program...

Signed up for Edge in May, somehow VERIZON "accidentally" cancelled my Edge program for 5 months, and then sent me a letter saying they were fixing the problem. I never noticed that it had been cancelled, and have never in 11 years had a problem with Verizon. My bill when on the edge program with the incentives, is about $180 for both phones. When it was not on the Edge program due to Verizon's mistake, my bill was $185 per month for those months. So basically, it was pretty much the same price, because of the incentives we received for adding the Edge program, and we were able to get 2 new phones. After HOURS of speaking on the phone with agents trying to correct this issue when my bill hit over $300 in October, we were finally able to fix the money problem and I wasn't "overcharged". However, there has been no one in this company that has been able to help me fix the other pretty big problem with THEIR error. Since they "fixed" the problem in October, they started my Edge program over, and basically shafted me out of 5 months and payments towards the 2 phones. The only reason we agree to do the edge program was to upgrade phones every 12 months, but now because of VERIZON'S MISTAKE, we are going to have to make 17 payments to reach that halfway point. All they keep telling me is that I wasn't on Edge for those 5 months, so I wasn't paying for the phones, but what noone understands, is that if they never screwed up and canceled my edge on accident, then I would have been paying basically the same amount of money every month, except I would be 5 payments further on my plan. I don't care where they allocated my payments, this was VERIZONS mistake and they need to go back those 6 months and fix every bill to show that I was on the edge program and they need to update my account, but refuse to help me. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT FOR HELP? News companies, better business bureau?? I'm so frustrated.

This happened to me to and I feel strongly that Verizon should correct the extension of the end date on 2 phones on my account. I upgraded 3 lines on my account on the same day in April 2014 - one line has continued on the Edge program correctly, 2 lines were taken off the Edge program in error by Verizon and when Verizon discovered their error (and of course caused billing issues that were difficult to work through) and put the 2 phones back on the Edge program, those 2 phones now have a much later end date than the one line that didn't get canceled off Edge (again error  by Verizon). During my last conversation with a Verizon rep while correcting the billing issue, I asked if they could correct the issue on the completion/upgrade timeline on the 2 lines Verizon messed up & was told it was a different department I would need to talk to....I am working up the time & patience to spend on a call to Verizon to see if there is anyway they will fix this as they should!

  • Anyone know how to get out of the edge program?

I dropped my old phone in the toilet and it was not time for an upgrade. Therefore, I went to the get a phone under the Edge Program. I specifically asked the rep at the store if I could go back to two year contract after I paid off the 50% of the program and he said yes. I hate this program. I only did it because I needed a phone and was not due an upgrade.  Now I understand that the only way I can get out of the Edge Program is to pay off the entire balance of the phone...which is outrageous. I no longer want to pay monthly installments. I want to pay a one time 2-year upgrade fee and start a new contract. It is my understanding my only choice is to pay off the entire edge or return the phone to Edge up. Problem is my phone has a small crack that I didn't realize was there until my son told me about it.  If you look at the phone normal you don't see it but if you look at it from an angle you can see the crack.
I only want to get out of Edge. I will have paid off 50% by January and want to go back to a normal 2-year agreement...but I do not want to return the phone although I will if I have to, that is if they will take it back with a crack.  Otherwise, I would need to pay the insurance to get a new phone and then turn it in. This still cost me money. I am contemplating just paying off the rest of the balance and then maybe it will say I can get a new two-year contract, like it does for the other phones on my account.
I have been a verizon customer way back when it was called Bell Atlantic Mobile and you would think they could do something for me since I have been a good customer all these years.  I don't want to leave because I have four other phones and a tablet with Verizon but I will if I have too. I would obviously go to AT&T.
Does anyone, maybe a verizon rep, have any options for me?

I'm not a Verizon rep, just another customer like you. EDGE is a payment plan, or Rent to Own, or a lease program if you intend to keep upgrading.  If you want off the EDGE program, you can pay off the total balance due on the phone and keep it, and then you can start a new two year contract with a different phone.
In order to return the phone at the 50% point, and be done with EDGE, the phone has to be in good working condition.  The crack means it's not in good condition, so you will be charged the full price, whether you plan to EDGE up or go contract.  Either way, you'll end up paying for the EDGE phone, over time or in a lump sum.  It was one way to get a new phone when you were not eligible for the discounted price on your previous phone, but you need to fulfill that obligation before you can get another discounted phone.
Do you want a new phone/different phone?  Look at eBay or swappa, or check with your friends who may have something you can borrow.  Or simply keep using the EDGE phone until it's paid for, then look at options at that time.
