Verizon phone upgrade at Best Buy?

I was wondering that since im on a family plan and am not the" Primary Line" will the person who is the primary line have to come into the store with me when i get my upgrade?

Ok, this what I can tell you from experience:
In a 'Family Plan' there is an 'Account Owner', the person whos name is on the bill, basically the primary line. There could only be one Account Owner, but you can switch to any other number on the line. Then there is an 'Account Manager', who can do almost anything the Account Owner can do. I only know one restriction so far: If the Account Manager wanted to have their own line, they have to get permission from the Account Owner or the Account Owner have to be there to start it. There could be more than one Account Manager in one family plan. If you are not either one of these people, you can't do alot. You can't get Techincal Support inside a VZW store, change the plan, pay the bill, and recieve an upgrade. Getting an upgrade is 'signing a new contract', and you can't make account changes without one of these people.

  • Upgrading with Best Buy

Hey guys one question this last time, if i upgrade with Best Buy is there any faults or anything else associated with it? Before i attempt to get an ally phone..or something free

When you upgrade through a third party, be aware that you are signing, effectively, two contracts ... one with Verizon, and one with the retailer. Read carefully, know the limitations and restrictions that go along with the retailers "deal", and if you can live with that, then get the deal.
Many times you cannot make ANY changes to the plan for 6 months (increase minutes, add texting, etc...) or swap phones on the line without getting slapped with the ETF. As long as you are aware of and OK with what you are agreeing to, Best Buy may well be your Best Buy . . .

    that's actually uh...quite a decent amount (?)
I mean...where I lve at least, the Verizon and Best Buy are across the street from each other...12 miles down the road...same setup, different location, 10 miles the other way, same setup.
I mean how many customers are HONESTLY eligible for upgrade or forking out full retail?
    Not that many I assume?
But then again...I know how fast the EVO went out, and Best Buy did ticket thingies
Out of curiosity, when I pay the $650+ for mine, will my reward zone card give me that many points? cause that would be the bomb!
Yeah, I bought a phone for full retail price from Best Buy.  You get the points on the price of the phone, but not the sales tax.  Get some accessories while you're there and you could get around 700 points!  What price is Best Buy selling the 16GB for, $599 or $649?

  • Considering upgrading through Best Buy instead of AT&T.

So here it is again- the end of my 2 year contract. I have had many versions of the iPhone since they launched in 2007 and instead of upgrading from my iPhone 4 to the lackluster iPhone 4S, I am deciding to shake it up. I am going to go the route of android.
More specifically the Galaxy Note. It was meant to be. It even comes out on my birthday. It's a Phablet. Just like I always wanted.
    But I digress.
A friend told me about the awesome promotions going on through bestbuy. The $50 gift card (already signed up for it.) and the free case that comes with the galaxy note if you preorder it.
It is clearly the better deal to go through best buy, but I guess I have a few questions:
    1. Can I preorder the phone at the store or do I have to do it online? I would like to be able to use the $50 gift card towards the phone (As it says I can in the fine print) rather than waiting for the gift card to arrive.
    2. I am not the account holder (my mother is.) but I am an authorized on the account. Should I have her come with me or do I just need her info?
    3. Does best buy typically get the phones in stock on the Release date (In this case the 19th) or later than that?
    Thanks for reading.

'manufacturer warranty = from manufactr so is same no matter seller of item. buy item, it comes w manufacturer warranty, whatever it is. period.
protection plans are a best buy (or competitor store) warranty. if you like terms, fine, if not, dont add it to order. stores will still take yr $ -- and you can still buy items at sale prices advertised. salesperson earns lower commission is all.
cell  carriers also offer own protection plans, fwiw.  your call to add to your plan -- or not.
any or all of above may be considered a ripoff or added value, your call. but are addititonal to sale of item poster is considering.
prices on phones on bestbuy generally are NOT a ripoff, when we purchased ours was handled well, from moving address books etc to new phones to setup email accts, to not messing up the plan we wanted...
also, bestbuy will take the Sprint upgrade discount right off the purchase price, so you walk out the door spending less/ get taxed on a lower price. most other places make you mail in a Sprint rebate form and wait for weeks/months to get a check in the mail.

  • Do phones purchased at Best Buy come with a SIM card?

I just ordered a Galaxy S3 for my son that I will be picking up tomorrow from Best Buy. He currently has a Droid Bionic. I know the two phones take different style SIM cards. Will the S3 I pick up tomorrow had the micro SIM card? Or do I have to go to a Verizon store and pick one up?
    Thanks,

if they don',t Verizon cs will send one or you can get one at a Verizon corporate store.

  • Will the VerizonWireless stores match phone prices at Best Buy (with 2 year agreement)?

Currently BB has the cheaper phone with 2 year VerizonWireless agreement.

No, Verizon does not typically price match 3rd party retailer vendor prices.

  • Upgrading a phone with Best Buy vs. Verizon Wireless directly

Thanks for reading.  I'm eligible for my upgrade with Verizon on 12/19.  I've noticed that Best Buy has the Samsumg Galaxy S III I want to purchase for $50 less than Verizon Wireless online and in the VZW stores.
I questioned Verizon reps directly about the pricing and they stated that if I purchased my phone from BB instead of with them the following would/could happen:
    1)  I may no longer get my 20% PNC discount for monthly service
    2)  I would not be able to purchase Verizon's protection plan, only Best Buy's
    3)  If something went wrong with the phone I couldn't contact Verizon, only Best Buy with replacements, issues etc.
    4)  Best Buy (or any other vendor) would/could ask me to sign their own agreement which could hinder me from changing my plan, adding features and other limitations I would not have otherwise.
    5) Best Buy will push my upgrade date back four months, that’s why the price of the phone may be lower.
Can someone debunk or shed some light on this?  If the above are true I'll probably spend the extra $50 to go directly to VZW.  I have the chat log if anyone would like me to share.
Also, by the way Best Buy, I've been to the cell phone area of the Mall Woods Best Buy in Dayton, Ohio three times in the last week to play with phones and not once did anyone ask me if I had questions or needed help.  For some reason, this is an issue with this store.  TV's, Video Games, Car Audio always have more than enough associates and everyone is very helpful, but there are only two associates in cell phones and the lines to even talk to someone are always absurd.
    Thanks!

    1. Not true, your discount still applies.
    2. Not true. You can still use Verizon's insurance, though Best Buy's Geek Squad Protection has a $0 deductible
    3. Not true, you are still a Verizon customer and have the manufacturer's warranty.
    4. Not true, Best Buy Mobile has no secondary agreements you need to sign.
    5. Not true, your contract extension is the same as it is through Verizon.
Did you visit a Verizon retail store? Please remember that many of these stores are owned by third-parties and the reps are on commission, and they have a personal interest in you buying from them. In this case it appears you were completely lied to.

  • Best Buy, what is a loyal customer worth?

I have never written this type of message before but I felt this to be important for Best Buy to read. I was in retail for 37 years. I started out stocking shelves and ended my career a Senior Director. What I experienced in the last 3 days over a cell phone purchase with Best Buy is certainly why businesses today are not truly worried about developing loyal customers.
I was in the market for an i-phone 6 plus and went on line searching for any kind of deal on this phonefor Christmas. On Best Buy.com in bold print was the offer, "Receive a Free $150 Best Buy gift Card when you purchase any Verizon Smartphone with a NEW 2-year or Edge activation." I printed off this copy and went in to a store and asked about the promotion. I was told they had none of the phones, the deal was over on Friday so there was nothing they could do. I went to another store and got the same story. Feeling defeated I went home and got back on my computer and there was an e-mail from Best Buy saying I left this phone in my cart, are you still interested? I decided to call customer service and ask about the promotion and if I could get the phone. I got a guy named Ralph who said he was familiar with the promotion. They had phones to order on line and would help me all the way through. He did say that he was not sure if this meant just for new customers, but he said it does not say that so I will go through your purchase with you and make sure you get the gift card.
He helped me all the way through and said at the end of the transaction was when they would get me the gift card. At the end, the gift card offer still did not come up and he said, "now I see in my notes you will receive an e-mail from us within 4 hours with a link for you to get the gift card." Well, that did not happen. I waited for Friday after Thanksgiving and called customer service. This person said you get the gift card when you activate the phone. Just take the phone to the store when it arrives, activate the phone and that is when you will get the gift card.
My new phone came today and so I took it into Best Buy. I handed the associate my printed copy of the promotion and my phone and told him, I wanted to activate the phone, but only if I was going to receive the $150 Best Buy gift card. He proceeded to tell me that the promotion was last week but the "New 2-year activation" was only meant for new Verizon Customers. I asked him where it said that. He said "that is what it means" the Verizon person told us that. I again tried to tell him, I would be signing a "new 2-year activation" with the activation of the phone but I was already a Verizon Customer. He said that is an upgrade 2-year activation, not a new customer 2-year activation. I again pointed out that this distinction was not made in the add. He called his boss. His boss said the same thing that the add "meant" new customers. I said so it does not say that but I am supposed to know what it means. He told me this was a Verizon promotion and that is what they told him. So I asked if I could take this over to Verizon and would they honor it? His words" they won't, they are worse than we are."
At this point I could not beieve my ears and I said I will just return the phone. This $150 Best Buy gift card, that would be used on your merchandise with your margins would maybe have cost you $75. I will probably not purchase anything at Best Buy for a long time unless I have to. My story will certainly be discussed at gatherings as we all talk about our Christmas shopping trials, good deals and bad experiences.  Best Buy, was it worth it? Do you even care? If you want to make this right, you can e-mail me at the e-mail address associated with my "unboxed" account.

    Hello putter,
Welcome to the forum. I'm very sorry for the delay in replying to your post. It's always a smart idea to look for a good deal when you are ready to upgrade your phone. It sounds like you received conflicting information when you tried to take advantage of the promotion, and I sincerely apologize for any frustration, and disappointment this has caused. I also hope I can provide further clarification.
Per the terms and conditions of the promotion, which you can view in the link MMaier kindly provided, it states: "Valid only for customers NEW to Verizon." I'm very sorry if the agent that helped you when you called was not aware of this information. Using the e-mail you registered on the forum I was able to locate your information, and viewed that you have since returned the phone. Are you still interested in purchasing a new phone? Is there any way I could further assist you? We truly do appreciate our loyal customers, and I assure you I will also be documenting your comments for further employee training.
Thank you again for posting here on the forum, and I hope you will give us another chance in the near future to offer you a much better experience.

  • What options do I have if Best Buy doesn't honor what they sold you . . .

This is my first time ever to post, but I am at wits end and hoping for help from the community. I have been trying to resolve this issue for 6 months. Here's my situation.
My daugher is on her grandparents Verizon plan. Let's name her line B. I am autherized to purchase on the account. My daugher's phone was lost and she needed another one for security reasons. I called around to the Best Buys that we'd be near while travling and found one close by with the phone she wanted. The representative was excellent. Very very helpful and went the extra mile. He told me all about the edge program and how we were only going to pay an extra $10 a month for 2 years because we'd receive a $25 monthly credit. Then after 2 years we could surender the phone just pay taxes and upgrade the phone. The Best Buy representive called for apporval to make sure he could use a upgrade from line A for my daughter line B and still receive the edge. So he double checked to make sure everything would be seemless. This occured Oct 24, 2014. After the first bill it was all but seemless!!
So in November I went to Best Buy, they sent me to Verizon, I went to Verizon, they sent me to Best Buy, Best Buy sent me to another Verizon and spoke to a supervisor. I was shown the error in Best Buys transaction. Best Buy upgraded line A to the edge but since there was no smartphone attached to line A, we did not recieve the $25 credit. Verizon sent me back to Best Buy and said Best Buy need to honor what they sold me. I went back to Best Buy close to my home. That Best Buy told me only the Best Buy I bought it from could help me. I had to call them because they are 5 hours and 6 minutes from my home. It took a few more calls before I spoke the mobile manager and he was going to investigate. Then it was the holidays and he didn't get back to me. I completely understood,. I called he and he said he hadn't forgotten me. Finally in December he told me he met with Ashley the Verison's Best Buy representive. According to him a Best Buy mobile supervision they would going to credit the account $50 for Novemeber and December. After that point we'd see the $25 edge credit. He said he'd forward me the email. I never recieved the email. I drove the 5 hours and 6 minutes to the store and he was off that day, but left a message for him to call me and please forward the email. No phone call, no forward email. So I called again, he was on vacation and wouldn't be in until after his vacation mid January. I was hopeful, but no credit on the bill in Jan 2105. I spoke to him again after his vacation and he promised to forward the email from Verison. Now it is Feb, still nothing, no email, no credit, no follow-up. I drive back there and had to speak the a store Manger, because the mobile manager has now been promoted to another area and he is off that day. The manager assures me the promoted moblie manager will contact me. But he doesn't. I call the store manger and he has the promoted mobile manager call finally me. The promoted mobile manager asks me for a copy of the bill. Fine, I get it to him. I'll have to fax it or mail it, but I would get it to him. Then the bill comes in with a $50 credit!!! Yay, I think they have it resolved, nope. April bill comes in no $25 edge credit.
I call the new mobile manager, poor soul, he doesn't know the situation. He took my information and meet with Ashley from Verizon. He calls me back, wow, he calls me back!!! I am so thankful. Then he starts talking about Best Buy in the third person! He doesn't know what "they" told me. When I bought the phone "they" put it on line A, then "they" transferred it to line B.  He's referring to his Best Buy representative in the third person. Talking about me buying the phone's contract for $600 plus dollars. I started to see red. So I ended oiur conversation to collect myself and called him back. Poor buy! Next conversation he explains that I need to put a smart phone on line A. I can buy a new one, use an old one, whatever, but line A needs a verison smart phone on it. He doesn't know why the promoted mobile manager didn't tell me this before. But since he didn't I'm out at least $150 that no one is willing to refund me. If I give line A the iPhone from line B, I won't have a phone for line B, unless I have one or buy a new one. He was kind enough to agree this was no fault of my own, but that of the Best Buy representive sold me the first time and the promoted mobile manager for not communicating the situation. So this is Best Buy's solution - grandpa who never wants more than his ancient flip phone has to get my daughers iPhone, my daugher get no phone or I have to buy one, and I'm out at least $150 (or more depending on how long this takes to resolve). I didn't even ask but I am sure the iPhone at some point must be surendered. The store manager is aware of the situation and he will call me tomorrow, or will he????
So, do I just accept that they made a mistake, they can't honor their deal because it is a contract with Verison and I have to pay for it? I feel helpless and frustrated. We're under contract for another 2 years.

    Hello nvtrev,
It can be difficult to keep track of all of your belongings while traveling, and it is discouraging to hear your daughter may have lost her phone during travel. While things certainly seemed to have gone awry, I’m glad to hear that your initial experience purchasing a new phone for your daughter was pleasant.
When our customers come to us for phone purchases, they should trust that we are able to communicate with their carrier’s systems to process a phone purchase seamlessly. It certainly seems that we may have missed something during your upgrade, causing you to miss out on the billing credit and that you’ve put forth a valiant effort to try to find a resolution to this issue.
As I am sadly not equipped to personally take a closer look into this issue, could you please share with me the store location and any first names of managers you have been working with regarding these concerns? With the store location and manager names, I would be delighted to reach out to the store’s leadership to better research this experience to see what options we may have for you.
I look forward to your correspondence!

  • Best mobile employees at best buy

Best buy will be my only mobile store from now on .. After running all over town for weeks because of the millions of mistakes made by a uneducated employee at a popular 3rd party store I finally took advice from a friend and went to best buy ... I wasn't aware of the difference between a 3rd party store and a Corp store until now. Although AT&T recommended their site or Corp store for best service and price for phones I believe best buy was really the best! The employees were honest and helpful , quick and patient... They called AT&T for me, had new lines up and running fast, plus they had a ton of knowledge regarding plans and devices and have a amazing price guarantee and warranty that no other stores have! Come July I'll be at best buy for my new upgrade!

Start by telling us what you want to do with it and what form factor you prefer.
Was this post helpful? If so, please click on the white "Kudos!" star below. Thank you!

  • Under contract, not upgrade-eligible, but want to switch phones. How best to do it?

I am a Verizon customer who was eligible for upgrade a month ago. So, about 3 weeks ago I upgraded from the iPhone 5 to the Galaxy Note 3. I've now decided that Android isn't for me. So, what is my least expensive option to switch back to the iPhone, specifically the 5s, considering I'm outside of my return/exchange period? I know it's going to cost me, but if I consider all options (early termination, adding additional line, etc.), what's the least expensive way to do this? Thanks in advance.

I've made similar "mistakes" in "reasoning" on wireless plans before, so I feel you.
Assuming your ill-fated "upgrade" to an Android phone was done with a promotion, leaving you in a new contract period, you have to consider several things:  Is there anyone you know that might want that phone?  Would they be willing to pay the monthly charges required for an additional line on your account?  Do you actually trust them to pay those monthly fees every month until the end of your contract?  If they were to fail to be able to complete it, or if they turn out to be a crappy human being, would you be able to comfortably afford to pay the fees for the additional line of service yourself?
If the answer to all of those questions is "yes," or even if the answer to the last question is "yes," then your best bet would be to order an iPhone 5S as an additional line of service for your account.  You can then activate it in place of the phone you're currently using, so that "your" phone number will be on that iPhone 5S.  (To make sure that happens correctly, you'd be best off going to a VZW Store and having a rep activate it, and put a new number on the Android for you. If you screw it up, you might not be able to fix it.)   Then the Android phone can be given to your buddy, coworker, mother, sister, or whomever.  Or you can use it as a backup phone in case of emergencies.  Whatever.
If the answer to the very last question is "no," then make sure you can find someone to buy that Android phone from you, and that you can afford to pay ALL the cancellation fees, or the full up-front cost of an iPhone 5S to activate on VZW.  You do not want to get stuck paying a monthly bill you can't afford for an additional line that you don't want or need, and you don't want a wireless bill for final service, cancellation fees, and other cruft hanging around.  If it goes to collections, you're guaranteed to be taking a huge hit to the credit score.  Not worth it for a more comfortable mobile phone experience.
Also keep in mind that if you buy a new iPhone 5S from Verizon, at full retail cost, and activate it with Verizon in place of your current device, you're still upholding the terms of your contract so long as you maintain all monthly services required in that contract.  That means that, once you activate the iPhone 5S, you can do whatever you want with the Android phone.  And since VZW is currently running a buy-back promotion to let you sell them back your used phone, you could sell it back to VZW.  (I did this to upgrade from my current iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5S.  I'm not eligible for a discounted upgrade OR a Verizon Edge upgrade, so I had to pay the full $899 for my iPhone 5S.  They're buying back my 4S for $200, though.)
    Best of luck to you!

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. Thanks. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm with Verizon so I don't know what way would be cheaper

I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm on Verizon's phone plan so I don't know if it would be cheaper to have it fixed with Best Buy or Verizon. I cracked my iPod a little bit ago and got a refurbished one for free with the insurance on it but I don't now if it would be different because it is a phone. I don't know really anything about this stuff so any information that could possibly help me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's only for the iPhone 5. On the 4 and 4S, they can repair the back glass in store for $30. They will not replace the display on a 4 or 4S. They must replace the entire phone. Replacing the display on them requires disassembling the entire phone, which they will not do in store.

  • Free Activation Fee Druing Valentine's Sale 2015 All major Verizon Third party Retailer like SAMs, Best Buy,Walmart had poster up in their stores

fYi during 2/10/2015-2/14/2015 there was a promotion to boost sales during valentine day. SAMs Club, Best Buy, Walmart , Costco ect ran the NO Activation Fee charged due to promotion!!!!!! Verizion is aware I called them several times and the agent a supervisor called my local SAMs store to verify this promotion . The stores are not able to give you the activation fee back because it goes to Verizion just like when you pay a deposit. If you look ok the contract you got when you got your new phone during those three days it on the contract!!! Verizion is aware of this promo!!!! My agent had to call my local best buy and dams club to verify this promo!!!! they are not gonna take your word! Also Il still waiting on the port in credit I came from ATT paying almost $100 a month for 2 smartphones I paid 90 for 2 lined 2 Gb data now I pay 60$?per phone plus another 60$ for 4 Gb data that $180 my first 2 bills have been well over 300$ I just don't understand. Verizion you need better plans too much completion out there !!!!!!!!!!

Normally when there is a "no activation fee" promotion with Verizon, you are first charged the activation fee and then it is credited back to your account after you have service for 2-3 billing cycles. This is the way Verizon has always done it, I see no reason to believe it wouldn't work the same way this time.

  • Can Best Buy bill to account with Verizon?

Or is that only with Verizon corporate locations?

No, you must pay Best Buy for the phone. However you can finance it with 0% interest over 6-18 months with the Reward Zone Credit Card.
