  • Ntsc preview on external monitor

    hey guys,
I have an ntsc job to edit and am doing a test so i am ready for when i sit down with the client. I cannot get a preview on my external monitor. Normally I pipe it to a dsr 11 deck when using pal no prob. Tried that with all settings to ntsc land ( flicked the ntsc switch on back of deck ) no love. I get an image but it wont play motion, when i hit the space bar it updates the image from where i was to where i stop but no motion, it gives me a display as if it is set on current from not all frames. I connected the firewire to my Z1 and get the same thing. Using FCP 5.1.4
I used an easy set up in ntsc dv anamorphic.
    Any suggestions ??

my TV and camera will display both ntsc and pal. Just went back to my powerbook and it did what i wanted no prob. Must be an imac thing, will try trashing prefs and see what happens, but will do job on weekend on PB. Getting late here in Sydney, will sort it out later... Thanks anyways...

  • Macbook pro does not support Final Cut Pro preview on external monitor?

I have been editing on Final Cut Pro from my imac for approx 1 year with an external monitor attached with no problems. I recently bought a macbook pro, for Final Cut Pro editing, and discovered that the monitor does not work. The Final Cut Pro preview on the external monitor freezes and in the preview pane of FCP it flick between two images.
I have been reading around some forums, and have seen a couple of people with the same problem.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to run the external monitor with FCP?
    Thanks!

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.
    I hope this helps you.

  • No preview on external monitor and histograms black?

Hi, im having a problem with previewing. In the upper left room i see the footage (also changing when grading) but the rest of the rooms and my preview monitor are black. Histograms are not working.
Rendering and sending it to final cut works.
Im using a blackmagic decklink card for the output of the external monitor. Footage comes from the RED, 2K.
A colleague has the same mac pro but is using the older cinema screens. He has no problems. I use the new 24". Could that be the problem?
Does anyone has a idea what is going wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Very frustrated. Macbook Pro to external monitor questions

    Hello all,
Long story short, I have a 13" late 2010 Macbook Pro and have been using my Moshi mini display to hdmi adapter to extend my display to either a television or a monitor. No matter the external display they both support 1080p yet when I plug my mbp into it, it can't scale correctly unless I underscan it. If i don't underscan it I lose half of my dock and the tool bar is invisible.
Underscanning it makes the text fuzzier and less sharp. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is it my adapter?

I had a similar experience with my external monitor - the MBP was in mirror mode and the external monitor's resolution was only as high as my MBP laptop monitor resolution.
The trick is you have to close the lid completely. You will see your TV shut off for a bit, but the catch is you then need a wireless keyboard or mouse to "wake" your computer up while the lid is closed. Only then will you get your full resolution on your TV. Give it a few seconds once you close it, then when having a wireless bluetooth mouse, wake it, and in about 3-5 seconds your TV should turn on.
I should note I'm using the same Mini Display port to HDMI out that you are. It works great, but took a while for me to realize that you have to close the lid on your laptop completely.

  • Very Bad performance when previewing song in iTunes 9 through new interface

Hi, Since upgrading to the new iTunes (9.0.2) I cannot preview the music any longer without many stops in the preview for the computer to re-buffer the download. There are so many that you cant listen to the song as you only get clips that seem to be less than a second long.
Before upgrading to 9 the previews played perfect. I then also went out to my AppleTV and tried to preview music which played perfect with no stops.
On further investigation in iTunes I recognized that if I go to the Browse area of iTunes (4 buttons down under your name where it says Welcome (and your name) on the Main menu of the iTunes store (not in music or movies etc)) I can still preview songs perfect with no interruptions! This area (the browse area) still displays music in the old way that iTunes 8 did with blue and white strips separating each song and the old buy buttons.
So the problem seems to only be happening in the areas of the iTunes store that has the new feature set in iTunes 9 for displaying and previewing music.
I also tried to go into the preferences to see if I could set settings to download the whole preview first before playing but that has been removed.
Finally I was in a hotel last week and tried to preview music and it worked fine in the preview. However, I find it hard to believe that it is a speed problem in my house since the ATV works perfect and the previews in the browse area play perfect.
This problem is happening on my home iMac / my Power book (3 years old) and my sons power book (1 year old). I am also up-to-date with all updates from the system side.
    Any suggestions?
    Alfredo

I have the same issue. It wasn't this bad until recently and my bandwidth has increased if anything. Terribly annoying. It very adversely affects my iTunes store experience and encourages me to look elsewhere for music.
Yes, I have the buffer control set to large. Why don't they have an option to download the whole preview before playing like they used to?
    Any solutions?

  • Preview and External Monitor acting bizarre

I am posting a question about a computer at work, I'm at home right now, so I don't know all the specs.
The "Preview" window in FC Studio is disabled, and when I try to run out to firewire deck (which is connected to an NTSC monitor) it only shows still images. I've tried playing with all the settings (view All Frames, Still Frames, Off; Refresh Firewire; setting external deck to different settings) Nothing is working. Not to mention that the "Preview" window shows nothing when I do this. Also, when I select "Print to Tape" it shows up on the External, but no the screen. I'm thinking there may be something wrong with the video card, but it shouldn't effect the external firewire, should it?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Have you tried a different converter, like a camera or other box? To me, it doesn't sound like a video card problem, rather a converter box issue. Most consumer cameras over the past couple year can act as digital to analogue converters, so if you can' I'd try one of those. Besides that, it sounds like you've checked all the settings I can think of with the exception trashing the prefs.
    Good luck,
    -Brian

  • External monitor preview

I have heard that you need firewire to preview on a another monitor (after effects). where do i plug the wires? usb part in the computer and the firewire part in the monitor?
    <moved by mod from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

Firewire preview is for Standard Definition through a firewire video device like a firewire DV tape deck. It's old school and does not work with HD video.
You can use a bunch of 3rd party capture solutions to preview through external monitors, or if your graphics card supports multiple displays just go that route.

  • Dock on external monitor

    Hi all,
I have an external monitor (much bigger than my tiny MacBook Air screen), and I'd like the dock over there.  That's it - very simple request (or so I thought).
It seems that although I can put the MENU over on the external monitor, the DOCK won't budge.  This is obviously an insuitable configuration.
People tell me that in prior versions of OS X, the two would always move in tandem.  Is this a new bug in Lion, or do I have it wrong?
    Many thanks in advance!

If the dock is on the bottom or left, it will move with the menubar in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.  If it's on the left then it doesn't move and stays on the left of a extended desktop.  (This assumes your external monitor is defined as on the right).   If the monitor is on the left and the dock defined on the right, it stays there as well.
    Regards,
    Captfred

  • Can I attach an external monitor to my iMac G5 (ALS) if the video card is dead?

I don't know for a fact that the video card is dead, but the screen on my iMac (PPC/ALS) 20" gradually started flaking out over several months and is now dead. Computer boots up fine and I'm looking at it through target mode right now.  I want to keep using the computer if I can, so I am wondering if I can attach an external monitor through the DVI slot even if the video card is kaput.  I'd like to get an opinion or two on this before I buy a used monitor and cable.  Thanks!

You have found the answer. If the video chipset is OK but there is a fault in the internal display or its cabing, an external monitor will work. However, if the video chipset--which is farther "upstream" in the system--goes bad, the option of an external monitor is off the table.

  • How do I get Preview Slideshow to appear in external monitor/projector

In Preview in Snow Leopard, I could set up a slideshow and use it for presentations through an external monitor or on a screen using a projector. I did this by dragging the Preview window onto the external monitor and then clicking on View/Slideshow. A kind of poor man's PowerPoint presentation, but very quick to set up. Now, unless the displays are mirrored, as soon as I click on View/Slideshow, the slideshow is "sucked" back onto the screen on my MacBook, leaving the external screen blank.
I have found that there are alternatives to Preview available, like Xee, but with the Preview slideshow feature, only the pictures appear on the screen, with all the background being black, which looks more "professional".
Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to stop the Preview slideshow ending up back on the MacBook?
    David

There is something terribly wrong with Lion's support for two monitors, compared to previous Mac OSes, and it looks like you have found another instance of that fact. Oddly enough it seems like QuickLook may work where Preview doesn't. Anyway, I have two monitors and if I move a folder full of images to the secondary monitor, then select the images and right click and then click QuickLook in the Contextual Menu, then click the full screen arrows and the play button, the slideshow will play on the second monitor. If I open the pix in Preview, move the Preview window to the second monitor, and select "Play Slideshow" it promptly moves everything to the main screen, ditto for clicking the full screen arrows within Preview--moves to main monitor and in effect turns off secondary monitor. So give QuickLook a try and see if that will work for your purposes.

  • Preview on external PAL TV monitor

I have a PAL TV monitor connected to the 'video out' connector on a Matrox BOB.
With 1.5 Encore release it was possible to simultaneously preview Menus, time line and monitors windows on the TV monitor.
With 2.0 release the Menu windows is splashed on the TV monitor but no video is displayed on the TV when we launch the preview comand.
So it's difficult to appreciate colors, hidden borders, ....
Do I miss something ? Excuse my poor english ! hope you'll understand.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
    This is what Matrox told
For the new Encore, the WYSIWYG still works for the menu's when your creating and editing them, but that is it. You no longer get the timeline preview and playback of the project.
As far as Matrox dropping it, it was not by their choice. It was Adobe's doing. They changed the preview engine in Encore and that is what doesn't allow the WYSIWYG to work. So it wasn't a choice by the "M".
I will say that if you want to complain, please do complain to Adobe and request for them to make the engine directshow so the WYSIWYG will still be supported in a round about way in possible future versions of Encore. I find for self the Wysiwyg one of the most valuable tools for the X card, and me personally I was very, very dissapointed that this was no longer functional as even though in 1.5.1 of Encore, the controls and crispness weren't there so to speak as in 2.0, the output was a definite "tide-over".
So Adobe, when will you fix this problem? At the start of Matrox 100 there was a close togetherness between Matrox and Adobe, selling their products. I liked the possibility to look at the endproduct on a external monitor in stead of a small and not so good monitor on the PC.

  • Screen flickering really bad after unplugging external monitor

    Hello,
Since I updated my Macbook Pro 13' Retina (inch, Early 2013) to Mavericks, almost averytime I unplug my external monitor or TV, the screen starts flickering really bad. This is the screenshot of the issue. Sometimes you can see all the apps opens, but the "flicker" effect takes over the screen, making it impossible to user the computer. The only way I found to use the compuer again is restarting it. It's really weird.

    Howdy inireugg,
We've an article that provides a host of helpful information and tips for resolving issues with displays.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the systemYou can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • External monitor preview not working in CS5

Well its taken almost a month to get my Production premium suite CS5 working (exit code 7 install error) I finally reinstalled win7 pro after dicking with adobe tech support for weeks (they did try to be helpful and polite) and that "cured" the install problem so now I see that the external monitor preview still dosent work as in CS4....anyone know what gives? mine dosent work even if I set to external audio either. After effects-encore and Photoshop external firewire previews all work fine so I know its a bug in Premiere...anyone logged this yet?.On a VERY positive note I absolutely love the "solidity" of Premiere ....I invested in a Quadro fx3800 and well its a beautiful thing really.....is it odd to be in love with hardware and software
    cheers y'all
    steve

this is a well known limitation of the current CUDA drivers. Adobe is hard at work with Nvidia to solve this, but the work around is to set MPE to software in your project settings. It has high priority AFAIK.
Wow thanks Harm that was the workaround for now ....brilliant
    cheers

  • Mac Mini HDMI output gives bad resolution on external 1920x1200 external monitor

A brand new Mac Mini gives blurry picture with HDMI  HDMI connection to an external 1920x1200 HDMI monitor.
    very bad start

    Hi tlaci60.
I'm experiencing the very same issue you had with your monitor. Mine is a different brand (Westinghouse24" L2410NM), but the issue is the same. Not surprisingly, the resolution of this monitor is exactly the same as yours:1920x1200. Interesting…
Basically,I connect my brand new Mac Mini to my 24" monitor, and it results in a fuzzy and grainy image, with washed-out colors, and text so blurry it's difficult
to read. I'm sure you are familiar with what I describe.
Anyway: I’m kind of desperate, because nothing seems to work .I have tried your suggestion, but it doesn't work for me. I tried other suggestions from other threads and forums... and nothing works either. I just get the same awful look, even though the Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the correct resolution(1920x1200). Nevertheless, it looks just horrible.
Any suggestions?  Any ideas?  I'm just losing my mind with this, and I already bought every adapter and cable combination I could think of.
    Thank you
