Very poor speed

Hi Guys
I should receive at least 38Mb / 9Mb, but this is what I'm receiving:-
Download speed - 19.78
Upload speed - 6.76
So how do I resolve this issue?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi, could you run a B.T speedtest (ADSL/FTTC) tester and post results please including profiles. http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
The beta speedtest isn't great at best in all honesty.

    Hi Arsie,
Your IP profile is very low, which is the reason for the slow speeds as Im sure you've guessed.  Have you been restarrting, unplugging or resetting your hub in an effort to get the IP profile to increase?  The IP profile will rise when 3-5 days of a solid connection has been achieved, any disconnections will restart this time scale.
Has your hub been disconnecting at all? And once did it disconnect so low to give you that profile? Unfortunately it takes only 75 minutes for the profile to drop

  • Very poor speed and the poor customer service is w...

Good News - infinity will be connected to my area by the end of next month
Bad News - My connection speed is now .283Mb instead of the 6-7Mb that it has been until a week ago. So I ring bangalore and get fobbed of over and over again. They then offer me a new hub as my N600 "is not compatible" very funny!! Well the hub never arrives.
I phone the cancellation line which agrees to send out another hub as my cancellation fee is nearly £130, so lets see if this one turns up. I've checked the N600 and filter and all is fine. An external line check is clear so it must be at the exchange.
Therefore if you have had to make room at the exchange to connect up the fibre optic tell me and I'll accept it don't just try and fob me off with rubbish..
    Totally **bleep** off

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router , if netgear enter 192.168.0.1 the router status and then show statistic and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
if your exchnage is being upgraded to fibre that will not affect your adsl connection
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Very poor speeds and high error counts?

    Hi guys,
I have been reading through some threads on the forum but still cannot find any information regarding my poor connection. My connection runs extremely slow and eventually leads to me being unable to load webpages.
I had a look through my ADSL settings and found some high CRC and HEC events which I presume are not good! I have copied and pasted the results below.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have had no luck after calling the call centres...

Hi, thanks for the speedy reply! The results from above are not whilst connected to a test line
The quiet line test seems fine.
I have just put it into the test socket and the internet does seem much more repsonsive when I go onto websites.
There still seems to be a few errors on the ADSL settings.

  • BT Infinity 2 Installed today - Very Poor Speeds

    Hi,
I have just had BT Infinity 2 installed today to an Openreach Engineer. The BT Wholesale Checker shows the following for my number:
    FTTC Range A (Clean) 59.3 43.7 16.2 10 -- Available
    FTTC Range B (Impacted) 49.7 26.7 16.2 7.4 -- Available
But a wired speedtest.net result comes back with: just 22Mbps http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3287469432
The Hub5 is plugged directly into the new faceplate that has been installed - and i dont have any extensions or anything like that to confuse things.
I have gone into the Hub 5 connection status which shows:
    VDSL Line Status
    Connection Information
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 0 days, 04:43:37
    Downstream: 23.38 Mbps
    Upstream: 5.45 Mbps
What can I do? as a 20Mb line is not much more impressive than the 7Mb i was getting on my traditional ADSL line.
    Thanks
    Jon

i would suggest leaving it for 10 days see if things improve as they do say there is a 10 day training phase, if nothing improves after that then i would come back see if you can get a mod to help you out as they are a good bunch here all uk based

drag your disk into the list, excluding it temproraily from the indexing procedure.
Restart your mac, and open the Privacy page again, click the disk and the minus button to re-incorporate it into the procedure and restart the indexing.
Or just try your luck in Disk Utility/First Aid/Repair Disk Permission first.

  • Macbook Pro 11,2 tests very poor WiFi performance compared to iPad

    Configuration:
    MBP 11,2 running 10.10.1
    Airport Express 2014 vintage
WiFi Scanner.app speed test results on MBP range from 1 to 3 Mbps. My iPad Air (or iPad Mini) in the same physical position tests between 18 and 28 Mbps. WiFi Scanner.app shows SNR of 17 to 18 dbm.
The reason I am testing is because I have noticed network performance on the new MBP to be very poor in our current NZ location. In Palo Alto 2 weeks ago the MBP wifi seemed fine - I didn't bother to test.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • Very slow speeds suddenly

I have the 3mbps plan, and since about a week ago the download speed has dropped to around .25-.35 mbps consistantly.  Upload seems normal.  Very late at night around 2 AM the speed seems to bump back up, but only around .7 to 1 mbps.  I've disabled wireless on my router and that does not make a difference.  My router is the Westell 327w.
This is not the first time I've had speed issues, and it's starting to get tiresome.  The last time there were horribly poor speeds for about a week and then the entire area had an outage for a day, then it came back up and everything was fine and speeds were back to normal.  Obviously was an issue on Verizon's end.  I suspect this is the same, but of course customer service doesn't want to entertain that possibility.  I'm about on the end of my rope and ready to find a new ISP if this isn't resolved quickly.

It would be that big box. You can technically mess with the Coax, Ethernet and Telephone connections within the ONT, as those are considered customer servicable. What you should never, ever touch would be the Fiber line. Disconnecting that or damaging that can really cause some issues. Fiber is both a pain to clean and splice properly if something happens to the clean connection.
Your BBU should be located inside if the ONT is outdoors, as the BBUs are not weatherproofed like the ONTs are. You should be able to shut it down and power it up without heading outside. The only reason you'd need to go outside is to check on the ONT's status lights to see if it has power and if the network connection is there, which we're saving for other troubleshooting steps for other times.

  • Idvd: once a project is burned to dvd disc the resolution is very poor.

I have created a project in idvd with several sub menues and images. Once I burn the project to dvd disc the resolution is very very poor. Besides the images being very pixelated, the menu screens are just as bad(pixelated), so it's not just an image quality issue. The funny thing is, when idvd is open (in the editing mode) and I play the project, everything is crystal clear. Then I burn the project, and play it in my computer to verify and the quality is terrible for both, my images and the menu and sup menues. I did import my (hi-res, average of 5mb) images into iphoto, then pulled them in to idvd from iphoto. I used a supplied template, but did change the positioning and font of the text on the menu and sub-menues. I have chosen the encoding to be 'best quality' rather than 'best performance' under the idvd preferences menu. There has to be something else I can do to get a great quality with this program.
    Thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The funny thing is, when idvd is open (in the editing mode) and I play the project, everything is crystal clear.
iDVD's Preview function can and will lie to you. Use apple's dvd player as a more accurate indicator of what the final image (or rather disc image) will look like.
Additinal recommendations: Use best performance for QT content 1 hr. or less and not best quality setting. This may help somewhat. Also make a disc image first from the file menu in iDVD6 and then lower the burn speed to 4x or lower in apple's disc utilities or roxio toast. Use only Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R for troubleshooting purposes only.
Lastly, when shooting on minidv camcorders make sure not to pan too quickly. Avoid sudden movements. Use a tripod whenever possible. Make sure your subject is in focus and well lit. Use new / quality minidv tapes only.

  • Very poor wireless reception on HP Envy 17t-j000

So I just recently got a  HP Envy 17t-j000 quad edition (Windows 8), which seems to be having some wifi issues
I opted for the cheaper non-bluetooth adapter, the Realtek RTL8188EE, which at present seems to have almost zero documentation on the internet. The Realtek website doesn't even show any record of it!
Anyways, here's the problem: I'm getting very poor reception with it, to the point where one of my two wireless routers has only very intermittent and horrendously slow connectivity, and the other will work a room away but no further (and also sometimes drops too, but less frequently). Outside of this range, I can still see these networks, but cannot always connect. If I do manage to connect, it will show a strong signal (4-5 out of 5 bars) but will never actually load anything. In fact, though I'm not sure this is relevant or not, I have never seen any networks with less than 3 out of 5 bars for signal strength.
Meanwhile, a number of other devices work at a much larger range and without dropping the connection as this computer does. This includes a year old HP (I forget the model) and a five year old Acer. The speed on my faster router doesn't appear to be very different between the HP Envy and the other two.
    I have:
    * Done a number of restarts of the network modem and both wireless routers
    * Verified that the driver on the wireless adapter is up to date and reinstalled it
    * Checked to make sure there are  no antivirus/firewall/other programs systems that could be interfering
So, does this sound like a just a crappy wireless adapter or could this be some sort of software issue or defective hardware? Also, if I were to just replace this with another wireless card, what sort of things do I need to be concerned with in order to make sure the replacement is compatible with the system?

    OK Boys & Girls - - here's what I did - -
First - the Envy X2 is having similar problems - but my laptop is the 17t-j000 quad
so this IS the correct thread - -
I used the HP support assistant - - it installed an updated BIOS -
The WiFi still shuts down at 8 - 10 min watching Netflix (no mouse or user inputs - Max signal strength indicated)
    {Yes - I have disabled allowing the machine to turn off power to the WiFi card in the driver section}
Loaded the Softpaq mentioned above (quoted below) - - 200MB - had to be SOMETHING in there ??
It loaded without a problem - - strange thing is - the Intel Driver date stayed the same: 9/17/2012
Tried the WiFi - - still shuts down at 8 - 10 min
Went back to HP Support Assistant - -
    NOW it says - - I need a new WiFi package ?!?
    So - I download and installed THAT - -
Back to Netflix - - and so far - has been NO SHUTDOWN ?!?
2 episodes watched - still connected - fingers crossed
Your mileage may vary - -
    Hi,
Download the Softpaq sp63183 from the below FTP link which should resolve these issues.
This Softpaq is for Windows 8 notebooks with an Intel Wireless card and should not be installed if they have another manufacturer like Broadcom , Realtek , or Qualcomm .

  • Very variable speeds. High noise. Should I follow ...

On a good day my MaxADSL broadband gives me 6.5Mbps. On a bad day, like to day, it can be closer to 2Mbps. So far, it's never dropped low enough to give me V04 errors on BT Vision. And for working from home it's not a problem as my speeds are always better than theirs as the office is in a very rural location!
However, I do have a lot of noise on the line:

And these figures don't seem to vary when I move my HH2 to the master socket (which is inconveniently located above a doorway!). Although I've only ever had it there for 10 minutes or so - does it need to be there longer to establish the correct noise levels?
I use BBTalk as my primary phone. I received a call today and the quality was very poor.
So my question is should I chase up BT? Do I have a line fault?
Here's the BT Speedtest results. As always the speed they indicate is much higher than that given by ThinkBroadband.com or Speedtest.net:

as you are on adslmax and also have max speed and profile I don't think noise margin is a problem but more like what the call margin in hand which is a good thing.  your download on btspeedtester is 5mb and looks ok especially if run today when net could be busy

  • Very Poor Customer Service from Verizon

I want to complain about the very very poor service I have received from Verizon. Since I activated my 3.0MB DSL plan in Sept. I have yet to get an upload speed greater the 0.9MB. I have called Customer Service 2 times, each time I was on the phone for 2 hours and at the end of each conversation I was told that a field service agent would be dispatched to the area because there was a problem with the out side line. I have even sent them emails and feedback, nothing. I ran their in service agent and it too showed a download speed of 0.7MB.
Yet I am still being charged 39.99 each month. Its a New Year and I am still waiting.

#1 Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) will contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

  • Poor speeds in Coventry (Binley Exchange)

My upload speed has dropped from 18.9 Mbps to around 9 Mbps and pings within UK are very poor (300ms), but strangely pings to Amsterdam (Ookla) are good at 20ms.
I have reset the HH3 several times but no change.
This problem started about 2 hours ago.
Anyone else having the same problem?
    Thanks,
    Robin

Thank you for your reply but everything is back to normal now.
It must have been a temporary glitch.

  • Very poor network performance with a G4

I have a white & grey G4 (1.25GHz and 256MB) running OS X 10.4.5. It's exhibiting very poor network performance, e.g. it will not FTP files over a LAN at more than about 40KB/second.
Other nodes on the same switch perform fine, as do other ports on the switch. The machine is set to autodetect for speed & duplex, so my question is -- how do I debug this? I've tried swapping network cables already...
    Thanks!
    Chris

This came down to an incompatibility between the G4 and the Cisco. When the switch is set to force 100Mbit but negotiate duplex, the G4 doesn't like it. Going back to auto speed & duplex fixed the problem...

  • BT Infinity - Very poor latency during peak times....

    Hi guys,
I hope that you can help. I am a little bit disappointed with my connection at the moment. Let me try and give you a breakdown of the issue so that it may help you distinguish where the fault may actually lie.
I have been a user of the BT Total Broadband service for a number of years. My ADSL 2+ has always been great, 18Mb Down, 1Mb Up. Latency has always been acceptable, ranging from about 30ms off-peak to about 50-60ms on peak for a server that I regularly game on.
BT infinity very recently became available in my area, the promise of a faster connection for little or no additional cost was a no brainer considering the quality of the connection that I have had from BT up until now.
The line was installed with ease and for the first day it was truly stunning. 50Mb Down, and 12Mb Up seemed brilliant, Latency also improved, dropping down to 15ms off peak, and 25-30ms on peak. For the first day it was absolutely stunning.
Since then, its just gone wrong, Most people would be happy with the connection, but I am not as I know that the service provided to me is/was better than that supplied to me by BT infinity.
Now, when running the speed checker, the speed is superb. Day or night the speeds are pretty consistant, never really dropping any lower than 45Mb Down / 10Mb up, it’s the latency that is the issue! Off peak, it can be as low as 10ms connecting to these servers, on peak it now shoots up to over 250ms between peak hours, making gaming near impossible.
The speed and latency tests don’t really help either (such as the BT speed test, pingtest.net and speedtest.net)
All three during peak hours report 45+Mbps downloads, 10+Mbps uploads and response times of sub 25ms. The problem is however, is that these tests are not really that accurate for the internet experience that I am getting
The speedtesters and ping testers are using best-case servers for the results, these resulting servers are therefore held within the BT network, and that’s why these speeds are great.
As soon as a server is outside of the BT Network, its poor. Very, very poor indeed.
As my latency is so good within the BT network, I can’t see there being any issues with the line. Not that it has stopped BT from running a new line from the cabinet to my house, and patching/checking for wet joints before they supposedly put this new line in. From my understanding it has to be BT’s connection out to other nodes on the internet.
Every time that I speak to BT by phone, they don’t seem to understand the problem as my speeds and latency are fine – (and on the BT WAN they are) – yet in reality the connection is very sub par.
My gaming server however seems fairly happy, like I say my old BT adsl 2+ connection to it always seems stable.  I have even ran tests via a neighbours ADSL2+ circuit, and a 3g Dongle simultaneously as my infinity check Both still report < 60Ms response times during peak hours (when BT Infinity is 250Ms+ at the very same time)
Can any of you guys please shed some more light on the problem, and more importantly what I can do in an attempt to resolve it. There are not many LLU’s here, so changing ISP is not really an option for me.
Has anyone from BT Infinity had this problem, and was able to resolve it. If so how did you resolve it? Maybe I am explaining the problem to the their Customer Services Teams incorrectly?
I asked them to define what latency meant, and their answer was totally incorrect. I cant help but feel if I keep calling them (and they don’t understand my problem) it may never be resolved as a result.

That is what i thought! If there were errors or collisions down the line, this could effect latency. i know my latency to most of the BT Wan is spot on.
That said, thats what IP Profiles / BRAS is for, to drop the speeds on your line if required to ensure quality of bandwidth for the line in question so that collisions / packet loss does not occur, it downgrades automatically, so why force it even lower!?.
I dont want to say I know BT's job, as I dont. but I would like to think i have a fair understanding of how networking works - It seems that BT Customer Service, and even the engineers speaking from me from their 2nd/3rd line support teams should really be re-educated on providing factual information to their customers rather than hoping that I dont understand what they are waffeling on about!
Most of the delays are much higher in BT's infrastructure. Not that they will admit it, i think their 'no throttle policy since 1st Feb 2013' is far more relevant than my line and its connection to the WAN
