Video allocation on Lenovo B570

Hi everyone... Yesterday I bought a Lenovo B570 and I don't know how I can allocate video memory. I searched for tutorials but I didn't find anything.
I looked into BIOS and the available options are: Information, Configuration, Security, Boot and Exit.
Thanks

Hi
Welcome To Lenovo Community
The amount of video memory your computer has is dependent on the amount of pre-allocated memory set for your system plus the Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT). DVMT dynamically allocates system memory for use as video memory creating the most efficient use of available resources for maximum 2D/3D graphics performance.
DVMT allocates memory based on system needs. Many graphic-intensive applications (especially games), require a minimum amount of video memory in order to run correctly (or even to run). Video memory is allocated based on the amount requested by the operating system. When the memory is no longer required, it is returned to the operating system for use by other applications or system functions.
Also you may want to go into the Intel display tray, under 3D settings select the memory footprint on highest this should allow you to maximize your shared video ram usage.

  • New Lenovo B570 - Screen black at power on

    Hi
Lenovo B570 - I've had this for a couple of months with no complaints.
However last night when I tried to power up the screen remained black. It appears that the power is OK but the screen wouldn't respond.
I removed AC connection, battery etc and tried again but it took a few attempts (maybe over a dozen) before the screen eventually responded.
This evening exactly the same problem but, unfortunately, repeated tries have not been successful this time.
One key recovery had exactly the same result - or, perhaps, lack of result.
Not sure if this is common problem but appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Tom_crh,
If you aren't even getting to the BIOS screen (press F2 for BIOS setup)  and the Ideapad screen, then it certainly isn't an OS / driver issue.   It is probably a hardware problem, but if you can get it to come up again and go into BIOS, try the option to "reload BIOS defaults".
You could also troubleshoot a bit by trying to connect to external display and see if you get an image there, even when you don't get one on the LCD.   Does the HDD activity light flicker and otherwise give you the impression the system is loading windows just without the display?   If so, it sounds like LCD, display cable, or possibly video system.
In the end, you are probably going to have to call service.   I'm glad the system has been solid up to this point, and I feel confident that service should be able to repair this for you quickly.
    Keep us posted!
    Best regards,

  • Lenovo B570 Fingerprint scanner not responding/is gone and other issues

    Hi,
I've been having some issues lately with my laptop. It comes with a fingerprint scanner, but as of yesterday is stopped working. Normally I can login by swiping my finger, but now it doesn't even show up. It usually has 3 users slots on the login screen. Mine, my sisters, and another slot for the fingerprint scanner. Now that third one doesn't even show up. My fingerprint scanner isn't reading anything at all, nor is it even showing up in many places. I have no idea what could have caused this. Any help?
    I'm running Windows 7 64bit on my Lenovo B570.
I'm not sure if it's related, but when I went to check my drivers to see if it was a driver issue, I found that a bunch of hardware was not working due to driver issues. They wouldn't let me update, giving me a Code 31 error, saying that the file could not be found. The ones that aren't working are listed below.
    Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
    Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
    Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
    WAN Miniport (IKEv2)
    WAN Miniport (IP)
    WAN Miniport (IPv6)
    WAN Miniport (L2TP)
    WAN Miniport (Network Monitor)
    WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
    WAN Miniport (PPTP)
    WAN Miniport (SSTP)
If anyone could help me fix this, I would be eternally grateful.

  • How to register Lenovo B570 for warranty in the UK?

Having bought a new B570 just before this new year (28th Dec 2011), I am still finding it impossible to register this laptop.
After reading a message from someone that they had a crack appear on their B570's screen, I am very concerned - that I am yet unable to register my laptop properly.
Apparantly there is a base warranty which starts from the manufacturing date for one year but we all are supposed to register and get this changed to last till one year from the date of our actual purchase.  But when I try to register on-line I get transfereed between various lenovo sites and finally the registration fails.
Apparently my Lenovo B570 is called as Ideapad in the Singapore region and I get directed to that website - but I am in the UK and in the on-line registration form, I don't see any European nor USA - on the UK specific site there is no form where I can register for this 'my own warranty' rather than the 'base warranty' - in my case it turns out my laptop was manufactured a few months ago and the base warranty would not last for one full year after my purchase - this is not fair.
I have been sending emails and so on - but not getting any positive response at all.
How do I register for proper warranty please?

    hey vlbaindoor,
i'm guessing that you bought the B570, from Singapore?
Do note that in the International Warranty Page >> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/iws.page?
The B570 , did not list UK and therefore not eligible for International Warranty.

  • Lenovo B570 Won't charge unless power cord is in a certain postition.

My Lenovo B570 is faced with a new problem. Now my laptop wont charge unless the power cord is in a certain position. I want to send it in repair but i am afraid that i will have to pay MORE money to repair the computer. I tried a universal charger i had and it is the same thing.

    Hi kschumake83,
I agree that it sounds like a problem with the laptop power jack, but it's not soldered onto the board.  It sits in a housing and it has a cable that plugs into the board.  Here's what the power jack looks like.

  • Can I replace the 5400 RPM drive with a seagate 7200 RPM drive in a Lenovo B570

    Hi there,
I have a Lenovo B570-1068AFU system that comes with a 5400 RPM HDD.  Does this system suppor 7200 RPM HDD upgrades? I would like to replace the current 5400 RPM with a segate 7200 RPM.  Possible?
Thank you for all your replies.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To add a little to what Tanuj said, you may have a (fixable) issue when moving to the new drive.
Depending on when your laptop was built it may have a legacy (512-byte sector) or Advanced Format (4k-byte sector) hard drive.  Many/most larger drives on the market are AF.   If you migrate from legacy to AF, you may notice that Windows Update has stopped working.  Windows 7 is supposed to handle AF drives correctly, but there are many cases where it doesn't until updated, or an additional driver is installed.  The situation is worse with XP, but also fixable.
You may well not have any problems with this, but if you do I have some notes and links to fixes over here:

  • [SOLVED] Arch won't start, uefi lenovo B570

Hi, i am trying to install arch on my lenovo B570 laptop. I downloaded the latest iso from the site and used usb universal installer to create usb install media. In the boot options of my laptop i pick the usb as the first boot device and run it. I can see the efi menu and i pick arch_x86_64, but it seems to me that gummiboot is not firing. After this i only see black screen, and the usb stops blinking. After a while (3-4 min) the lap-top restarts. In the options of my bios i can't find anything like secure boot option, i have read on the forum similar issues and someone said that this should be disabled, but i don't see any option like so. My bios is very primitive, there is only boot order to set and nothing else.
    Thanks!

I prepared the usb inside Lubuntu, i used gpadted to create new msdos partition table (mbr) and removed any partitions.
I created new partition FAT32 with label "ARCH_201212" and formated the drive. I created two folders inside /mnt, one "iso" and one "usb". I mounted the usb and iso like this:
    mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
    mount /home/stefo/Downloads/archlinux-2012.12.01-dual.iso /mnt/iso
Then copied everything from the iso to the usb:
    cp -r /mnt/iso /mnt/usb
    Unmounted and synced:
    umount /mnt/{usb,iso}
    sync
EDIT: I also tried with fdisk...
When i try to create new partition table with fdisk on my usb i get this:
Building a new DOS disklabel with disk identifier 0x601ad71e.
Changes will remain in memory only, until you decide to write them.
After that, of course, the previous content won't be recoverable.
Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite)
EDIT: When i create new partition table and new FAT32 partition with fdisk, and then try to mount like this:
    mount /dev/sdb1 -t vfat /mnt/usb
I get this, and the usb is not mounted:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
           dmesg | tail  or so
    dmesg | tail
    [ 1678.604687] FAT-fs (sdb1): bogus number of reserved sectors
    [ 1678.604696] FAT-fs (sdb1): Can't find a valid FAT filesystem
EDIT: My mistake sorry, i didn't used mkfs.vfat -F32 to format the partition, i forgot to do that
EDIT: When i try this, i get Permission denied:
    sudo awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} /archisolabel/ {print $3}' /mnt/iso/loader/entries/archiso-x86_64.conf | xargs mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1 -n
EDIT: I don't know why the previous command didn't worked but this one worked:
    sudo mkfs.vfat -F32 -n `awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} /archisolabel/ {print $3}' /mnt/iso/loader/entries/archiso-x86_64.conf` /dev/sdb1
Just to check i open gparted and i can see my usb /dev/sdb, one partition sdb1 FAT32 label: ARCH_201212. I copied the content from the iso to the usb, unmounted both the iso and usb folders and sycned, and again i get black screen..

Power button is ON, hard disk indicator blink for few micro second then goes off .Battery is full charged. Some time the cooling fan is working . Please help me for the same . whether there is problem in RAM or Hard disk?
    Regards Ajitab

I had this issue with my best buy bought b570. it is the one with the core i3, I tried resetting the cmos battery i tried a different hard drive and the external monitor, but after a while the lights stop blinking and never come on, looking like it was completely dead.  I had to send it back to lenovo to be serviced and they had to put a new motherboard in it.  I would try the monitor first and if not call up lenovo.  It takes about a week to get back from them unless you have the better warranty.  I hope you get this issue solved.

  • Lenovo B570 headset jack not working

    Hello,
I bought this Lenovo B570 laptop 2 months back. Now all of a sudden the audio jack for headset stopped working, though mic jack is working properly. What could be wrong and how can I set this up. I have even installed Realtek HD audio manager to check if that can help but in vain.
    Anyone please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi afletcher91,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
If you do a left click and it doesn't respond or the key gets stucked or is stiff, that's an indication that the Touchpad needs to be replaced (probably got worn out due to everyday use). You may send the unit in for service or you can fix it yourself.
Not sure about how much it would cost but you need to replace the Touchpad Button (Part#: 31048975), you can get it at http://tinyurl.com/cqbvv5f
You can find disassembly guide at the Hardware Maintenance Manual here http://tinyurl.com/cbs9k5e

For christmas me and my brother both recieved a lenovo B570
I have been running my internet on an ethernet cable due to the wifi breaking a couple of months previous, but my brother has been using his wifi connection, until today when it wouldn't connect at all. The wifi will connect with the desktop in the house and has previously been fine on the laptop
Any help is appreciated, but i must stress me and my brother are not very technical so we may struggle to understand the techinal terms (in other words probably best to explain like you were talking to a child)

  • Lenovo B570(P/N:59316294) support mSATA?

    Dear forum members.
    I have a lenovo B570 model with P/N : 59-316294 (Model No : 20093) that I bouhgt in 2012 Sep.
Recently, I hope to speed-up my B570 to attach mSATA SSD.
If my B570 is opened, the feature is as belows.
If bottom cover is opened,  blank slot is appeared.
    My questions are
     This blank slot is mSATA?
: I know that mSATA slot has same pin as min PCI express but two are not compatible each other.
          B570 model has mSTAT Slot?
    Pleaese share your knowledge.
    Thanks.

    hi yangwool,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Looking at page 38 of the B570 hardware maintenance manual, the Mini PCI-E slot is being used by the Wireless card and/or a WWAN card.
      - Link to picture
Although an mSATA SSD would fit on that slot, the manual doesn't indicate that the slot is electrically compatible with an SSD (unlike other models like the Lenovo Y460's mini PCI-E slot (more info on page 28 of HMM):
If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, it would be best to replace the stock HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD (like this item).

  • Lenovo B570 boot fail

    Hello.
I have Lenovo B570 laptop for two years. I last two months appears error when starting. When I press start button nothing is happening.Start button lights and fan works very hard. After 10 days I started again and was working normally but trought 5 days again same error occurs during the startup. Does anyone has a solution or can teach me what to do about this ? Someone told me that motherboad is dead, someone that problem is with intel graphic ...I dont know, I am sad :/

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
From what you have described it sounds like your laptop has a hardware problem.  Try doing what I call a soft reset of the BIOS. This can be useful in some situations to resolve hardware conflicts Here's how......
    1. Unplug the charger / adapter
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
    4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If that didn't resolve the problem then I would suggest removing all the hardware from the computer.  Take out the DVD drive, hard drive, wireless card and one of the memory modules if you have two installed.  Try booting up the laptop and see if it run without errors.  If not, try the memory module in the other slot.  If the problem still persists try the other memory module in each slot. If the problem still persists then suspect the motherboard is at fault.  If the laptop boots up then start adding hardware one piece at a time and try booting up the system.  If the laptop continues to boot up add another piece of hardware and boot up.  Do this until you find that the last piece of hardware installed will not boot the computer.  That would then be the faulty piece of hardware that is causing the problem.
The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. It will explain how to remove the various hardware items. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.

  • Lenovo b570 Sim Slot

Hi everybody, this is Ahsan having lenovo b570. I want to use the built-in sim slot in my lappy as a GSM Modem. Is it possible? If yes then how? A prompt response will be highly appreciated.

    Hello Ahsan,
Using Internet from SIM is really convenient.
You need to check if the WWAN hardware module is present in the laptop otherwise you need to get it installed from the service center then install Wide Wireless Lan driver

You may share your laptop serial number with me in a Private Message so I can check the detail of WWAN hardware.

  • Lenovo B570 won't Power on at first

    Hi all,
I purchased a new Lenovo B570 a couple of months ago and have been having major issues with powering the laptop on since I have had it.  when I first got it out of the box it started fine no problems and ran windows update and installed a few programs (nothing too major other than MS Office, yahoo messenger, skype, etc).
I noticed after about a week that it had an issue when trying to start from a shutdown.  When I pressed the power button, the power light would turn on, HD light would indicate activity, however nothing would appear on the screen.  I forced shutdown and tried to restart and the same happens.  After a few more tries, eventually the screen will light up and suggest running start up repair.  this starts then I get various blue screen messages sometimes just once, sometimes 2-3 times on separate instances and eventually I can start the machine up and when it is on and running it's great and there are no issues at all.
I researched both on this forum and via google about potential issues and have tried one-key recovery back to original spec and also updating the BIOS and removing the fingerprint software, none of which resolved the issue (see threads below for examples of potential solutions that I have tried).  In the last couple of days I tried a new experiment where I turn on the power after a shutdown, and as described above just get a blank screen, however rather than force shutdown straight away, I allow it to remain in this state for about an hour, then perform force shutdown.  Straight away I press power on again and immediately the laptop starts, no BSOD, no start-up repair just straight into starting windows as you would expect and the laptop works as hoped for.
This indicates to me it could be a power issue with booting up at the start, but I'm afraid I'm not very technically minded in these things so would appreciate any help or feedback from someone who might be able to suggest a solution that I haven't tried yet as although I can get the laptop to work now, it is an issue having to wait for the power to 'charge up' before I can use the laptop.
