Binary Images Description for "iChat":

Hi,
Are you both on the same Time Capsule ?
If not does the modem you have route ?
Does the modem at the other end route ?
Use Airport Utility to access the set up pages and in the Internet screen > NAT tab turn ON Port Mapping Protocol for Leopard.

  • Whenever I try to send a video iChat I get a communication error

New iMac with air port, iChat worked for first week. One day both iChat and Safari got communication errors. Contacted internet provider was able to reconfigure the system so that I could access the internet but have not been able to establish a video iChat session. Help
    thanks

    OK,
Rebooting the router or even using the Refresh DHCP lease would have done th same thing.
In System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming is it set to 1.5Mbps ?
If you have to change restart iChat (it should be at 1.5Mbps)
In iChat > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit drop down set it to NONE unless on Comcast, Road Runner or VeriZon FiOS in which case set it to 500.
This does not need a restart.
How are the ports iChat needs open in your Routing device ?
What is the routing device ?
    Make and model please.

  • Ichat video not working- giving error

I have successfully used ichat video when I hook my mac directly to my cable modem. But it errors out when I have my typical cabling in place. Comcast cable modem, Vonage box, netgear router, then imac computer. In that sinario, my video ichat doesn't work. At this time, I really don't understand opening ports, but went into my netgear settings and have port forwarding enabled with my computer IP address. I also have UPnp turned on. Any other suggestions?

    Not exactly.
Many routers and modems now come with Protection features that are in effect Firewalls but can be regarded to some extent as filters.
+Denial Of Service Attacks (DoS)+ hark back to the days when people would gang together to bring down large company Web servers by all logging into a web page and hitting refresh again and again.
This would tend to overload the internet service that server had causing it to crash.
With higher speed internet connection and faster computers this can almost be done by one person and a bit of scripting.
    Wiki on this
So.... The manufacturers have built in DoS Protection that stops any connection on the port it is happening on - if it feels/judges that the data is "Too Much Too Fast". This is designed to stop you losing your whole internet connection.
From there you have to consider the risk.
Are you a big enough target for anyone ?
Are you likely to be "Discovered" on-line for anyone malicious enough to be doing this on a more random basis ?
+Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI)+ basically judges whether the data stream is legitimate
    Wiki again
In addition to this a device may also have it's own Firewall.
Much like the one on a computer this will be the thing you are thinking off in terms of stopping unwanted intrusions by allowing or not allowing various ports.
Some autopmatically open any port you have in the method used to open ports.
Some need setting in both places as it were (both Port Forwarding/Port Triggering/UPnP/DMZ and the firewall)
Now the thing here to remember that on most devices the ports below port 1024 are not subject to NAT and are therefore open anyway.
NAT is the bit that routes data on one port to a port with an IP to make sure it goes to the computer or device it should.
As web browsing and mail apps tend to use ports below 1024 then this is why you can almost always get on the the Internet (Web Browse) and get email - almost no matter how you set up your LAN (connection devices).
As most attacks are going to be in email form or malicious websites using malicious Flash setups (See this on UPnP on Wiki) the need for a firewall per se drops off.
NAT itself tends to hide you from the Internet Directly.
Firewalls do offer you at least the idea of where data is coming and going (but it is surprising how many applications "Call home" when launched (Advised of a new version of something ?)
    So in summary.
DOS a or SPI are useful if you think or know you may be attacked in that fashion.
They are additional features to any other firewall and the NAT Process.
They are, on the whole, fairly arbitrary in the way they act with no adjustment.
Faster Internet services are likely to bump into these settings more and more doing more common action like Streaming a video.
On some devices the amount of data in iChat Video from a fast internet service can bump into them particularly in Leopard where all the data is on one port.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi
Other alternatives based on the amount of info in your post.
Has she set up her Google Name in iChat or is she logged on via the Web Site (Google Mail page) ?
iChat cannot Video to the Google Mail Login page chat option or to the app called GoogleTalk on a PC.
    Another thing.
If you login to the GoogleMail Web pages you will get logged out of iChat (GoogleTalk account) to a partial extent which may explain the loss of Video or Audio iCons.
iChat reports in a Text chat window that you have Logged Off.
However you seem to be able to continue the chat - but it separate from the web Page chat - You send from the web page and that chat will get the next response, send from iChat and it gets the next response (I can't remember if the Buddy told me he got two Chat windows at his end)

  • My Video chat is not working with messages.

When someone tries to send me an invite for a video chat the green light shows up but I do not receive and invitation window to accept it.
I am using an aim account on messages and my server settings are api.oscar.aol.com, port 443, and use SSL is checked.
In connection doctor is says my router type is port restricted and that "This computer's network setup includes one or more devices that are not fully compatible with audio and video chatting. I am not sure if this is the reason my video chat is not working.
If anyone can help me please let me know.

    Hi,
Most routers can be accessed via  Web Browser.
The IP shown in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP tab in the "Router IP" box is generally the one to use.
You also tend to need a User ID and Password.
Apple Base Stations are different in that they have an App in the Utilities folder that accesses the set up screens.
Your router can have different methods of opening the ports.
    Port Forwarding
This tends to be the oldest of the methods.
Essentially you point a port to an IP (computer) to allow it.
A collection of ports may need to be entered one by one.
Once set up, only that computer can use those ports.
    Port Triggering
This cuts down the number of ports set to be Open as it involves "listening" ports that then open further ports
iChat/Messages needs some ports to be open all the time and you set these a bit like Port Forwarding but with listing the IP to send the data to.
The A/V side can have a listening port (port 5678 for the Visible part of the Invite)
The advantage is that multiple computers can use the same ports.
    DMZ (Demilitarised Zone)
This is an ON or Off setting (Enable/Disable)
It opens all the port (65535 of them) to one IP (i.e only one computer can use this.)
It is sort of like Port Forwarding Extreme
    UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play)
A setting that allows the App to tell the router which ports to open.
This means the router can carry on doing DHCP and multiple computer can use the ports involved.
Where these setting are varies at least as much as there are manufacturers.
This is  Linksys Port Forwarding (the arrows above the pic show the Others  (it does not show DMZ)

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

  • Satellite 1800-100: video-out does not work

    He,
I just installed windows XP on my old Satellite 1800-100, but now my video-out does not work anymore. So I just downloaded the latest driver, but there's no way I can get it installed. According to Windows the new driver isn't newer, so it won't let me update it. And when i try to unistall the display driver, I have to reboot before it takes effect, and wile rebooting it automaticly installs the standard driver again.
    Can anybody help me?
    Greets,
    Daan

    Hi
Do you mean TV- out port or monitor port? As far as I know this unit is preinstalled with WXP Home and all drivers can be also used for WXP Pro.
Did you preinstall your own OS (non recovery image)?

  • 2nd video card does not work

I have a spare Mac Pro here so I decided to remove the video card and put it in the one I'm using. Both machines were purchased in '09 and use the same video card (ATI Radeon HD 2600). The two monitors I have hooked into the original video card work fine but the monitors I hooked into the newly placed video card are not working. Under the About This Mac specs >> PCI cards it shows up and says driver is installed. Is there anything special you need to do to get a second video card to work?
    Thanks.

I tried the SMC reset. I removed the card and reseated it. I'm seating it in slot 2 because that's the only other one that is x16. The other slots 3-4 are x4. Still nothing is showing up. When I go to System Preferences >> Displays >> Detect Dispalys nothing happens. The two displays plugged into the original video card work fine but the newly installed on does not show up. Here is what the Mac Info is detecting. Maybe this makes sense to someone. Not sure what MSI is referring to and the second video card is reading as "display" instead of "ATI Radeon HD 2600". Link speed on the second card is half that of the original.

  • Video Filter does not work.

    Hello.
I have been using Final Cut Pro 4 for a while and it worked fine before. But recently, any function of Video Filter does not work. I apply them to the clip, but the image does not show any changes on Canvas.
    Is the software's problem?
    Thanks in advance.

For a reason unknown to me, FCP's preference files (there's 3 of them) will sometimes become corrupted and need to be trashed. Usually the symptoms are things just not working as they did earlier, or weird issues like the 3 Way Color Corrector looks different than before ... stuff like that.
FCP Rescue is a freeware app (yes, you'll need to download it) that will create a backup set of preferences, thereby retaining all of your settings. Then when (not IF, but when) FCP's preferences become corrupted, you can run FCP Rescue to replace the bad set with a fresh new set.
Otherwise you can delete the files yourself (make sure FCP isn't open at the time) and the next time you launch FCP, it will revert back to the factory settings.

That's basically it. I have a 23-inch Cinema HD Display at home and at the the office. Suddenly the video out is not working with either of them. The displays control panel lists the external display, so the system is detecting the connected display.
There is nothing wrong with the displays. I connected an old PowerBook and they light up fine. With my MBP, the power light lights, but nothing is displayed on the Screen.

there's a somewhat similar thread "external monitor stopped working" with no answers
my 17" Studio display works as 2nd mon on other computers
my dvi out does work with a vga monitor and adapter, of course :))
i'm using the dvi to adc adapter -- could this be involved somehow?
my laptop display goes blue when i plug in the external monitor as it should, but the 2nd monitor never wakes up, turns on, etc.
