Video in Movies Library doesn't sync to Apple TV
I have a reference file (.mov) in my iTunes movies library that plays in iTunes. I want to watch this on my Apple TV, but it does not show in the movies section of Apple TV when synched. Says I have not rented movies in my library. Any idea on how synch this? Thanks.
Not knowing which compression type is used inside your AVI files, you may need to also purchase the QT mpeg2 playback component (you could check your compression type/See This). The WMV files will need the flip4mac plugin which you can obtain HERE.
Once you have your movies in QT Pro, choose file/export and from the resulting save options for 'export' choose 'Movie to Apple TV'

Dropping videos into movies library but goes to music library on ipad
I drap and drop home made videos (in .MOV) format into the Library labeled Movies. They show up on movies list okay. When I sync IPAD, movies go to my music library not movies.
Actually, now they won't play on my iPad either.

Movie content will not sync with Apple TV (1st Gen)
I have some iTunes purchased movies which refuse to be sync'd with my Apple TV (1st Gen). Storage for the ATV is external using FireCore (latest release), and I have added content since this issue began, but the same movies still will not sync.
I have tried syncing as 'Playlists' - my preferred, also ticking the 'boxes' for these items within the 'Movie List' on iTunes, finally selecting 'All Movies' - none work.
My iTunes Library lists 98 items. Apple TV lists 90 items. Both include iTunes Extras
This question/problem is also listed (incorrectly) under Apple TV and Photo'sI am also experiencing major sync issues with my recently purchased Apple TV which will NOT transfer any content (purchased or otherwise) over from my iMac (27" 2.66 GHz Intel i5 Core). I am running iTunes 9.03, and Apple TV OS 3.02.
All content plays on my Apple TV fine and I've had no trouble transferring purchased TV shows back to the iMac.
I was on the phone with Apple support for well over an hour about this yesterday: failed solutions included factory restores and direct iMac-ATV Ethernet connection. They decided that the Apple TV might be defective, so it was returned and exchanged. New Apple TV=same problem.
Incidentally, the first Apple TV was initially synced with a Windows XP machine running iTunes 9.01. No problems with syncing content from the PC.
I spoke with Apple support again this morning: we tried 2 factory restores, but could not get any content to sync from the iMac to ATV.
I also tried to sync from an older iMac G3 (OS X 10.4 and iTunes 9.03) with the same unsuccessful result.
Still waiting for Apple support to call back with more ideas. In the meantime, I've synced the ATV back to iTunes 9.01 running on Windows XP without any problems.
Very frustrating: there must be a major ATV sync issue that affects Macs running iTunes 9.03. I hope that Apple will address the problem and offer a fix. -
ICloud backs up movies but doesn't sync them?
May be just a fundamental misunderstanding, but both photos and movies are saved to Camera Roll, and both are included in the iCloud backups (determined by size of backup), so why do the photos sync to the PC but not the movies? Obviously they are in iCloud so I don't see the reason those aren't pulled down to the desktop.
There's lots of data and settings that are stored in the backup that are not acccessible outside of restoring your phone to the backup. I suspect they aren't accessible via iCloud data syncing because that would require that they be saved twice, once in the backup and again as synced data in your account; and they didn't want users to have to used that much iCloud storage to do so.
You are supposed to import your photos and videos to your computer via usb as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. Given the number of people who report that their photos and/or videos are missing after restoring their backup I recommend that you do this on a regular basis and not rely on the backup for these. -
Editing-- Insert video and move audio over preserving sync
I really love iM6. I do have FCExp, but I've gotten so comefortable with iM6 that I hate to change. But I am frustrated by one thing.
I may be trying to do something too advanced for iMovie (6HD) but almost everything else with this product is so amazing, I can't imagine that they didn't build this in. I must be overlooking something.
I am making dvds from a VHS conversion of some 60-70s 8mm home movies. A labor of love for an aging parent. The amateur filmmaker used to project them with records playing, and at some point he collected all his chosen LP music onto a cassette (not on the video cassette, a music only cassette). So, I play the VHS and the music at the same time and use an analog to Firewire converter and load all into iM6. So far so good. Then, because I need to seriously mess with the music to put it more or less in sync with the video segments, I extract the audio so it now shows up as a second track. Still no problem. Now in editing I clip or split the audio into separate pieces and checkerboard them, alternating between the two audio tracks in the timeline so I can adjust volumes, cross fade, etc.
The first volume I did took a lot of twiddling and tweaking to keep all the clips in their proper places. I'd work at the end of the piece, then at the beginning then back to the end with the result that the audio clips were always sliding out of position. I can't quite figure out how to keep two audio tracks in sync with the video. BUT I did finally finish and when I started the next one, I swore that I'd always finish a segment and then move on to the next, always left to right, never tweaking the finished stuff to the left (earlier on the time line). This has made the job much easier but I have one big problem now. I did not think to put some black at the head of the project to put the titles on!
You'd think I could just put the cursor at 0:00 and insert a 6 second title over black and it would move all the video and audio to the right by six seconds. But what happens is only the video slides over. The two audio tracks don't move and are now six seconds early. Sure, I could go ahead and re-adjust all the 30 or 40 audio clips, but I can't help thinking that "Apple wouldn't make me do this..."
Has anyone any idea how to lock all the edited material together so I could insert some space to the left without losing sync?
PS does anyone share my frustration on THIS: when I copy a little piece of sound from one of those tracks and then paste the copy, there's no telling where it will land... It never goes to the cursor position. If I'm lucky it lands somewhere on the timeline after the project end and I can drag it back to where I want it. But on an hour project this is annoying.Hmmm. this was supposed to go to the iM6HD group. I wonder if there's a way to move it.

Thanks,

Apple TV movie purchase doesn't sync back to iTunes
I'd recently purchased a movie directly from within Apple TV but it is not synchronizing back to iTunes. The content on my computer synchronizes correctly to the Apple TV but my purchases and rentals are not synchronizing back the other way.
I've tried removing the synchronization settings from both the computer and the Apple TV and then setting it back up again. My music synchronizes over but -- again -- my movie sits happily on the Apple TV but not in iTunes.
When I look at the movie on the Apple TV, it has the little trash can indicator next to it.
I'm using Apple TV 2.1 and iTunes 7.7.1 (on a MacBook Pro).
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?I have a similar issue. Just got an Apple TV and synced it to iTunes on MacBook Pro and everything worked fine - got about 7gb of photo and music content synced to ATV without any issues.
However, when I purchased a TV episode on ATV, the whole setup is stuck. Every time I start a sync on iTunes, it tries to sync the purchased file (about 500mb) from ATV to iTunes first, before getting to the photos and music sync in the other direction. The problem is that iTunes completely hangs in about 20-30% into the copy process, with the coloured wheel mouse cursor running infinitely.
I've now upgraded the software components (ATV to 2.2, iTunes to 8.0.1), tried removing the ATV relationship to computer and adding it back again, restarting both ATV and MBP in the process, also removed com.apple.itunes.plist as some forum suggested. Nothing, it ends still in the same place. I am yet to do a full reset to ATV, as I'd prefer not to loose the purchased file, which I do not have any copies of outside the ATV.
Through the attempts the ATV now is empty of any photos/music that were synced to there before, there is just the one sad little purchased episode. And I can not add anything back, as iTunes always starts with the purchase sync... which fails.
One thing some sites are hinting to but I haven't quite understood is the notion of primary and secondary iTunes Store authorizations. The iTunes account I use was created on a separate PC version of iTunes. However, the MBP is authorized too and I've used it to add credit, etc.
Any thoughts? -
My iTunes library doesn't sync completely with my iPod. What am I doing wrong?
Some songs just won't sync or copy over to my iPad. Suggestions?
Bill,
After you connect your iPod, but before you start the sync, go to the Summary tab set the parameter "Convert higher bit rate songs to" as pictured below. You can choose 128, 192, or 256.
This will cause iTunes to make smaller versions "on the fly" and copy them to the iPod, without changing the files in your library.
Note that the first time you do this, it will be slow, since every file has to be processed. On succeeding syncs, it will be much quicker since only new and changed files will be processed. -
I have a 2002 Sony HDTV "ready" tv and am trying to hook up Apple TV2. On the back of the tv, the connection point where the HDMI cable goes in does not match the Apple connection HDMI cable. I'm guessing that I need some sort of connector that goes into the tv at one end and that will accept the Apple tv 30-pin HDMI cable Is there such a thing? What's it called and where can I buy it? Thanks,
Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV specifications state clearly that a TV with HDMI connection is required. DVI is not necessarily going to work as a number of people have found out, although many others have been able to get it to work.
A DVI cable may perform the same function as an HDMI cable for passing video signals but the hardware cards that it plugs into at each end may not. -
Audio/Video doesn't sync with FME
I have been testing FME with a Pundit Pc 2.8GHz w
512MB Ram running XP w/SP3. I tried using the Osprey 100 with very
choppy video as a result. I also have tried the Canopus AVDC110
which has excellent video but the audio doesn't sync up. I've tried
numerous settings but still have a/v syncing issues. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
BTW-We are usiing a Red5 ServerI'm assuming that you are using the Sound class to control
the MP3 sounds? If that is the case then they will not be sync with
your timeline and if your animations are too much for the SWF to
stay at the 30fps rate then it will slow down to complete the
animations.
One way to sync them up would be to place them in a layer in
your timeline and then in the Parameters box at the bottom set the
Sync dropdown to Stream.
Then if your movie slows the audio and animations will still
be together.
This is not as flexible as you may currently have it but it
might work for you.

Downloading movies off of the camera roll into iTunes movie library
Has anyone figured out a way to automatically extract the movies off of the iPhone's camera roll and deposit them into the iTunes movies library when you sync? Once I get them in there, I will be able to play them with Apple TV pretty easily.
@Proud American:
I use Win 7 and if I plugged (via USB) my iphone 4, windows can recognized the iphone as an external storage (just like flash disk) so I can browse through file manager (windows explorer) and can access the iPhone "Camera Cam" and make copy/delete files. I think this feature also works on Mac -

Okay, so we currently own a 1st Gen ATV and love it, however 99% of it's use is streaming purchased content and/or home movies etc. that I've used visualhub/handbrake to convert and imported into my iTunes library. All in all, once I gave up and surrendered my video content to iTunes and started streaming to my 1st Gen ATV I've grown hooked, I love sorting stuff however I want (I have about 250 movies, entire seasons of X-Files etc. that I've ripped from my own (LEGAL) media and put in iTunes, so when it's sorted properly it's very clean, when it's all alpha, it's a nightmare.
I've tried a few media servers for the PS3, however they just pile all the movies into one big alpha sorted mess, music isn't sorted by genre, no genius, TV shows are not tagged by watched, won't resume properly etc. Boxee / XBMC are a little better, but then again I run those on my ATV as well, and still Boxee doesn't really seem to sort stuff quite as well or play playlists properly.
We're getting another TV for our den and have been looking into other media streaming options, what I love about the Apple TV is the way I can sort all our movies, shows etc. by genre, so the kids can just go to the stuff I've tagged as Kids Movies or I can make video playlists for them and mix up some Planet Earth and Dora the Explorer for our babysitter and movies /shows are tagged as watched/unwatched, if you stop one it will ask if you want to resume, etc.
Looking into the ATV2 it seems like it's just geared for rentals, If that's the case I really am not interested. I like the Netflix option, but then again most newer internet connected TVs do that as well as my PS3, not sure how viable an option the WD TV Live plus or Boxee box is, I'd like to get some newer hardware, but I'm just not sure what route to go.
Does the ATV2 stream media in iTunes TV Shows/Podcasts/Movies folders? It doesn't sync right? So it it all Airplay now?
Is my best bet just to get another 1st Gen? Are there any other media servers that are able to sort stuff by played/genre/etc.
Ug, I'm at a loss! I really love the features of my old Apple TV, and would love to get a new one, but I'm just not sure if it will do everything I'm used to, or if any of the other standalone boxes are better options?
I know this is a bit of a ramble, hopefully someone can make enough sense out of where I'm going and help me out! Thanks!Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too. -
AppleTV 2 doesn't display or play video in iTunes library on MacBook Pro i7
please help, apple tv doesn't play or display movies on the computer.
brand new appleTV 2nd gen, it plays itunes store videos, netflix and youtube videos. network works great. latest software updated. home sharing active. computer autorized. it shows the computer in the menu but can't browse the library. the computer can play through the tv speakers but doesn't show the library. airplay active. also when it try to play movies from the computer it displays an error message. the movies are converted for ipad and apple tv.
movies are not from apple store.
the computer has the latest software and it works properly.
it is connected to the same network as the apple tv.
what should I do?
Message was edited by: unaquestionedialiI am having the same problem since upgrading my desktop workstation to Lion. The AppleTV 2 can see my computer when iTunes is running, but when I navigate to the library the AppleTV 2 tells me that there are no movies (or music or pictures) in the library. I have a mix of videos purchased through the iTunes store, HandBrake conversions, and home videos converted with HandBrake. I can start a movie or other video in iTunes and push it to the AppleTV 2, but I can't parse the library from the AppleTV 2.
The odd thing is: I can see the library on my Mac Pro just fine from my MacBook Pro's iTunes.
