(Video) LightSwitch Cloud Business Apps and SharePoint Workflows

You can create advanced enterprise applications when you incorporate Visual Studio LightSwitch Cloud Business Apps and SharePoint Workflows into your solutions. Microsoft SharePoint workflows are powerful, but the non-code version created with the SharePoint
Designer do not allow you to implement complex data bound business rules without making web service HTTP calls. You can make these calls to Visual Studio LightSwitch Cloud Business Apps.

  • Cloud business app - using sharepoint persons

    hi,
we have a cloud business app using a sharepoint list as a data source, the list has a sharepoint person or group type column,
when you bring that list into LS app, it brings in the UserInformation list as well.
if you build screens for browsing the entity, you can surface the person.name property, by creating a computed field - however you cannot search for the person by name, a computed field does not appear to have the IsSearchable property.
is there anyway to include the related data in the search ?
    MrP

I haven't encountered this situation (yet) so if the obvious things don't work I would make a
WCF RIA Service that would hydrate the name of the person in the person object and return that name as a simple string in a field in the entity.
I could then put that collection on a Browse screen and the end-user could search for the person by name.
Again, I would only do this after exhausting all other alternatives because I imagine there would be a performance hit to call into SharePoint to get the name on each row (which may be why LightSwitch doesn't do it)

  • Cloud business app and document sets

we have a cloud business app connected to our office 365 tenant
when we create an entity we would like to create a document set in a specific document library, is this possible for the created event on the entity or do we need to run a server side action ?
how would we go about this?
    mrP

I would use the server-side _Inserting event. See:

    Hi Dave,
you seem to be the only one who tries to communicate with us which is great:-). I think it doesnt make much sense to ask if we develop any new apps in Lightswitch. You should probaby ask something like "would LS be a tool of your choice for a new project
if LS and mainly SL was actively developed and supported?". And my answer would be YES, YES, YES, definitely YES, because LightSwitch (I mean it's SL client) is by far the most productive tool I've ever used. For HTML development there are other tools
and frameworks, more mature and more flexible and most of them are for free. To be honest, LS HTML client is (compared to the SL one) just a bad joke - doesn't expose computed properties, default values, localization is poor...(just few main reasons) but the
main reason why I actually bought LS was that I wanted to get out of that HTML+JS+CSS+bunchofothertechnologies messy hell. Instead of it LS offered a consistent environment with ONE language of my choice (no matter if VB or C# - both are great
anyway). So I didnt hesitate and put my money and effort into it.
Well, from the current point of view it was the worst decision I've ever made in my professional life.
    Best regards

  • Documents and Cloud Business App

    based on this
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/officeapps/archive/2014/03/18/integrating-documents-into-cloud-business-apps.aspx
Are you limited to files less than 1.5MB ?
is there a way to get this working using REST so we can upload bigger files?
    thanks
    MrP

    HI MrP,
For Cloud Business App, we can use the new
document library integration support in the March 2014 Update.
For HTML application, we can integrate document libraries into your application like
    this.
But I didn't find that there is a limitation to file size for this.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.
    Best regards,

How to Get user profile properties in provider -cloud hosted app in sharepoint online - office 365 using REST API?
    any idea?

    Hi,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to get user profile properties in provider-hosted app in SharePoint online using REST API.
Here is sample code for getting user profile properties:

  • What is the difference between Windows Workflow Activities And SharePoint Workflow Activities in Workflows?

    Hi All,
What is the difference between Windows Workflow Activities And SharePoint Workflow Activities in Workflows?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Both are developed with .NET framework, per my knowledge, the biggest difference would be the environment they applied to: one for Windows platform, one for SharePoint platform:

  • Can SharePoint Apps and SharePoint 2013 workflow run on the same servers?

As the SharePoint 2013 workflow manager can run on non-sharePoint servers. Can I also use those server to host SharePoint apps in the Provider host model?
Or should I keep them separate?
This is a medium size deployment, 2 WFEs, 2 Apps, 1 Clustered DB.   I would be adding 2 additional servers for hosting workflow manager, and SharePoint apps.
One other option I can think of would be to host the Workflow manager on the SharePoint Apps servers.  And then host the SharePoint Apps on the 2 separate servers.
Any guidance or gatchas would be great the hear about.
    Thanks!
    Joshua Fuente

Yes, you should be able to run SharePoint Provider hosted apps using the Workflow Server as the provider.  There is nothing in workflow manager that prevents running web sites on the same server.

  • Can't sign into Adobe cloud desktop app and can't download apps to install.

I was able to download the Adobe Cloud app to my desktop, but it won't let me sign in, every time I try it tells me I've been signed out. I have uninstalled and re-installed it over and over again. I believe this leads to the other problem I am having whic is that I can't download  any of the apps when I click on an app to download it nothing happens, at the very bottom left of the browser window I see the following:-
    "waiting for sproxy-prod.adobecc.com"
    What should I do?

I did it, everything seemed to go well, everything happened as it should I saw the "
multiple lines which start with "Successfully copied the file" followed by:
Operation has been successfully completed." but I still am not able to log in through the Creative Cloud desktop app or download any apps to install.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Adobe Reader And SharePoint Workflow: How To?

    Hi all,
We are using SharePoint 2010 as our collaboration portal.
Our Marketing department wants to use feedback workflows on PDF documents.
The PDF documents can be commented and all reviewers should be able to do that in turn or parallel.
We can start the workflow on the PDF document and users can edit the file by entering comments.
However, as soon as someone has entered comments into the PDF file the corresponding SharePoint workflow tasks are cancelled?!
It appears that when commented, Adobe Reader does not change the exisiting document, but deletes the old one (hence the cancellation of the workflow tasks by SharePoint) and consolidates the comments into a physical new document?!
Does anyone know how to fix this and what is best practice in these scenario's?
    Much obliged,
    Vladja

    Hi SAMSUNG,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get the full path of a document in a list workflow.
You can set the variable to the Enconded Absolute URL of the document. The screenshot is my testing. In my testing (in the red area), when the title of a document was equal to the tile of the current item, set a variable to the Enconded Absolute URL of the
document. I used ‘Log to history list’ to check the value of the variable in Workflow History .
    I hope this helps.

  • Competition with Business Catalyst and Sharepoint

Do DW web developers have a future? Do business owners mistrust web developers so much that they are willing to settle for a cookie-cutter website?
I find it interesting and somewhat unsettling that no matter what advances are made in technology, web design remains a complex profession. All too often attempting to convey this complexity results only in more mistrust from the client.
    What to do? Your ideas/experience?

BC and Sharepoint are going after 2 markets.  Last I checked, Sharepoint was developed for intranets which is a different market than DW has ever gone after.  I don't think DW could ever or will ever be able to compete with the suite of options offered by Sharepoint. The collaboration tools are what it's there for.
And on the BC side I don't think that will push DW developers away either.  There are more sites made with the big 3 CMS' individually than there are with BC. Combined it's even farther from a fair fight.  The amount of sites made with Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla far outweight Adobe's hosted solution that is only available by subscription.
DW will continue to be relevant so long as there is development.  And it's not just DW, there are plenty of emerging web tools out there that are giving DW a run for its money.  As for your clients, just tell them you know how to code, that will go farther than any tool you use.

  • Digital Signatures and SharePoint Workflow

    Hello,
We are trying to combine .pdf documents (created in Acrobat 9 pro) requiring a series of digital signatures with a workflow process in MS SharePoint 2007.  If a Word document is used, each person in the workflow process can open the document on the server and any changes made are saved to the document for the next person in the workflow to see.  However, a .pdf document is opened in the browser and can only be saved as a local copy after signing it.  Does anyone know if there is a way to have the .pdf opened on the server in the same manner as Word documents?
I know you can send .pdf's vial email for signing but we really need the overall visibility SharePoint provides.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi David,
SharePoint Integration has been added in Acrobat X and Reader X. With this version of the product, you can open SharePoint files in standalone Acrobat and check-out, check-in and versioning of pdf files works in line with MS Word. I think this is what you need.
    Thanks,
    Richa
