Video looks great until converted to swf; leaves junk on slides
I'm using Captivate 5 in TCS3 on XP.
This is my first attempt at doing videos. I'm pretty happy with the end result except that there are shadows of widgets on slides where they shouldn't display. For example, there is a faint outline of text boxes and drop-down lists on slides that don't have them.
I suspect that there is some sort of setting that must be set when I generate the .swf, but I don't know what it is.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I did as you suggested and started by turning off all compression and gradually adding it back in. For me, selecting the following settings worked and left no "ghosts" on the video:
Compress Full Motion Recording SWF file
Retain Slide Quality Settings
Thanks again for all of the assistance.

How can I get audio to play from my TV when using hdmi cable? Video looks great, just no sound.
I've tried plugging the hdmi into the TV directly and the receiver.
I get video every time. HBO to Go , Xfinity, ABC, Youtube, etc...
just no audio. Any suggestions?
I've tried starting the apps then plugging in the hdmi cable.
I never tried this before I upgraded to IOS 5.Claudiamil-
I had not tried it with mine since upgrading to iOS 5, so I just did. I'm using a small Vizio HDTV. I did not try YouTube, but did try several videos and musical numbers. In all cases there was sound, including stereo when the source had it.
I assume you are getting sound from the iPad when the adapter is not connected, so the volume is not turned down. Dah*veed's suggestion to reset may be what you need.

Video looks great on MBP, horrible when projected....
I am projecting a video that I created in FinalCut on the MBP onto a screen using a Dell 1610X projector Check it out at http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/HomeTheaterProjectors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=224-7541
During my tests, I noticed that the video looks great on the MBP but really dark when projected.
I don't want to re-color the video to make it work on the projector... any thoughts, hints, insight you can provide?
Thanks in advance. You are comparing two different things and expecting them to be equal. That won't work.
The computer monitor emits light, the projection screen reflects light.
The reflectivity of the projection screen plays an important role. A white painted wall will not look the same as a proper screen with a silver or glass bead coating such as those used in movie theaters.
Ambient light from the auditorium or leaking through the drapes will dilute the contrast on the screen.
How are you connecting to the projector? The model you linked has VGA and HDMI inputs. VGA does not have the ability to display the range of color and contrast that your computer does. HDMI might improve things somewhat.
I don't want to re-color the video to make it work on the projector...
Then you have to block as much of the ambient light sources as possible and get a decent screen. -
I just bought a very good quality Sony AVCHD camcorder. I also just upgraded my computer from Tiger to Snow Leapord. My iMac is a 6-year-old, 2.16GHz Intel 2 Duo, with a 24 inch screen and 3GB Ram.
My Sony camcorder HD video looks great in iMovie11 and in iDVD7.1.2., but when I burn a DVD "professional" it looks terrible. If I look at a freeze frame on the DVD I see image made-up of squares. The picture has poor contrast. It looks as bad as poor quality VHS. Do I need to get a new iMac to make this work? Is it possible to make a sharp, clear DVD from AVCHD footage with a 6-year-old iMac like mine? That thread helped for a time. But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again. But, some of the jargon is over my head as well. Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about. But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again. Thanks so much.

Flash Video Looks great when i play localy but is very grainy when played from a server
What could be going on that would cause my flash video to look terriable when played off a server, but look great when played localy?
the clip is encoded in f4v and is about 3 min long, when i test it i use the same html file and browser, the only thing that changes is, local vs serverhere is a link to the clip the issue really stands out at about 19 sec into the clip where there are some animated lines that flow around http://www.autical.net/saver/
below i added screen shots the top one is the local and the bottom one is the server
i guess i used the term grainy incorrectly, i should have said blocky -
Video looks great in the simulator but picture shifts to the right on DVD
When I preview my encoded video clips in DVDSP4 using the simulator they look great and are centered perfectly... however, when I write my project to DVD and play it back on a consumer DVD player, the video (picture) is offset to the right by about 15 units (pixels). All my menus look off-centered. How can I keep my clips centered on the written DVD? Help!
DVD Studio Pro 4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)This is certainly a new issue. I haven't seen any reports of it.
Could you tell us how it looks on other set tops or your computer? -
Video looks good, until I export it to vimeo?
how are you guys doing? im new to the cummunity. I have a problem with FCPX/Compressor 4. It seems when my video is in fcpx it looks good, i export via Compressor 4 & it still looks good. Now heres the problem. When you look at my video through a computer on Vimeo it looks ok, but soon as you veiw it via cell phone it looks terrible! (& we all know most people veiw media through cell phone devices) so my question to you guys is... is that just a cell phone thing? or are there settings in which i can change to make the video look good always reguardless if its on a computer or cell phone?
http://vimeo.com/67703617 there is the video, but on a cell phone just doesn't look as right.
it would be greatly appriciated if someone out there can answer my question..thank you!Terrible? No way.
I have a 4S and I thought it played smoothly and displayed quite well – no artifacts that I noticed and very nice color as well.
Don't know what else to tell you.
Anyhow, the deal with Vimeo, et al is that once you upload it, it is in their hands. So you want to give them a version that isn't excessively compressed (and of course, progressive). And they will encode it for desktop and mobile devices.
Good luck.

Quality looks great until I upload final video
Everytime I edit in iMovie, the footage looks really sharp and clean, and still looks pretty good when I export to my desktop. However,
when I try to share on Youtube, the quality decreases drramatically. It often looks so pixalated that you can't tell what you are looking at. Is there a different way I should be exporting? I've tried using the highest and second highest quality export options, but they both look pretty bad once they go online. Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I did as you suggested and started by turning off all compression and gradually adding it back in. For me, selecting the following settings worked and left no "ghosts" on the video:
Compress Full Motion Recording SWF file
Retain Slide Quality Settings

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas of where else to look for advice. Thanks!Hey jcaqualung,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes on your Windows Vista machine. The following resource may provide a solution. I would also recommend installing iTunes on the internal hard drive of your computer, as opposed to the external drive.

Video Looks Horrible after Render?
I am working in a HDV 60i timeline with a mix of 60i and 30f codecs. The video looks great until I render. Once the video is rendered it gets really pixelated and ugly. I usually just export without rendering but when I tried it with this video it took about 15 hours and the final result looked exactly like it does after I render. I checked the render settings and they all looked they they are set to the highest quality. When I dump my render files in the timeline the video goes back to looking good? What the heck?!! Please help!!!! I am using FCP 6.06 Thanks.
JeremySo that is what is weird. The long export looks great now, (after exporting the smaller pieces, and then bringing the smaller pieces back and exporting the long one) The video looks great, plays great in both quicktime and final cut pro. The file doesn't appear to be corrupted...But after 4 different attempts at compressing to Mpeg2,(on different computers) the video crashes while in compressor. This is the error I am getting. 3x Crash Down. Sorry I kind of combined by two problems, but the problems were essentially the same. Here is a link to my other post. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2363793&tstart=0
This is my normal workflow I use all the time. I have heard your not supposed to use HDV and change to Apple Pro Res, but the HDV workflow works 98% of the time. I tried a couple different settings with the Apple Pro Res, but it seems degrade the image quality quite a bit. I am about to try the Adobe Media Encoder.
Thanks again for your time. Jeremy. -
My YouTube video looks blurry using Adobe Media Encoder
Im trying to upload a video to YouTube but the video always turns out blurry and pixilated regardless of what settings I use in my Adobe Media Encoder. I shot the video on a Sony 1080i HD camcorder, I know YouTube reduces the quality but I expect my images (ie peoples faces) should still be clear enough to see but that hasnt been the case. I went to the following site for guidance but I still cant get it right.
http://www.squidoo.com/youtuberight
Here are my settings that I thought would make my video look great on YouTube. What am I doing wrong?
H.264 format
Frame Width (pixels): 320
Frame Height (pixels): 240
4:3 Aspect Ratio
30 frames per second
TV Standard: NTSC
Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 1 Pass
Target Bitrate (Mbps): 0.344
Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 0.64
MP3 audio
DrogbaI heard sometime ago that YouTube converts everything uploaded to
Flash or FLV format. I have not used the iPod format for this purpose in CS3 but Rick has obviously found that it works well, however, I would recommend using Adobe Media Encoder to FLV and set it to 320X240 with no more than 1MB/sec bit rate to maximize quality and minimize file size since it's not going to be larger than that on Youtube.
The FLV raw file will be ecoded using VP6 or Sorenson's older version courtesy of PPro CS3 unfortunatley, but I feel the best codec to use is 264. Why PPro, especially CS3, does not offer this codec is unkown. That could be a reason why Rick's videos look good and that he may have shot them in HD. But then again, HD to 320X240 would seem to be self defeating. iPod format is indeed, believe it or not, 720X480. If you have published anything to the iTunes store, this is a required format which is not optional as it is with Youtube. -
My Video look blurry and Pixilated in Premiere Elements 10
I am starting to work on a new video using Adobe Premiere Elements 10. I just purchased a new Toshiba Satellite L855 laptop. It has an Intel Core i5-2450M Processor running at 2.5 GHz. I have 6 GB of RAM and over 500 GB of free space. I am running Window 7 with 64-bit operating system. The files I am placing in my video are MP4 Video (.mp4), MPEG Movie Clip (.MOD), and Video file (.wmv). The videos look great when I play them on my computer, but when I import them into Adobe Premier Elements 10, they are blurry and pixilated. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me.
I'm not sure, but I think I know the answer. And, I have a very similar computer.
Is there a red line above the time line? There should be when you are using multiple file types.
When you start a new project you asked for a "project preset". PrE10 uses that to make preview video for the editing process. If there is a mismatch between your preset and the first clip you bring into PrE10, it asks you to change so they match. With three file types, it can only be right for one. When you bring in clips of the other two types, PrE10 has to "preview render" in order make the monitor previews run smoothly. It does not do that automatically. It puts a red line above the clips that need it. Then anytime you press the Enter key, it will stop everything and "preview render" your content. It can take awhile. But, after that, your preview should look better.
You didn't say what the target output will be. When you work through to the Share menu and select what you are going to make, PrE10 goes to work doing a "final render". That's because what is needed for a Blu-Ray is different than for a DVD or posting to YouTube is different than making video for a website. The "final render" starts all over and uses you project as markers and paths to your original clips. It goes though frame by frame and makes new frames using the "final render" settings. And, it can take its time doing it!
Unless you buy a super computer, you may have to put up with a little less than perfect in the preview window. The real test is how the final output looks on the device you want to use as a viewer.

I've pulled in 5 videos and clippled them up to create a 50 second reel showing short segments of each. The video is for an HTML 5 embed on a website so it's at an odd size (235x162).
Everything looks great when viewing the editable composition within Premiere (and I've tried this in After Effects as well), but when I go to export the video ends up blurry no matter if I match the source or fiddle with the settings.
I'm guessing something is going on due to sourcing from multiple video files that are in different wrappers and codecs? If so, why would I be able to edit so cleanly (and render in program), but cannot export at the same quality??
If it's the codec issue, what's the best format to convert all of these to if it's exporting to an HTML 5 video (if that last part even matters)?
Does anyone have experience with the best settings for exporting .mp4 h.264 for web use? I want to get this thing small in file size, but still good quality.
Here's a rundown of the imported videos I've been clipping up assuming its an issue with one of them (audio does not matter, we're not exporting it):
MPEG4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC, Progressive
Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC, Progressive
MPEG-4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
Quicktime MPEG-4, Sorenson 3, Not progressive but I'm not seeing what it is
Thank you!Hi Collin,
Try 1 pass VBR instead of 2 pass VBR in the encoding settings.
Hope that helps,
Kevin -
I have a project that appears to be great until I export to either .M4A or .Mov and then everything looks like the cameraperson has had some serious seizures. What is odd is that the stabilization works great while working on the project in Imovie. Can anyone help? The content was captured using a Samsung HD video camera (flash memory).
DJim
Sorted.
I found a post elsewhere and the suggestion was to delete the projects folder. Then launching IMovie, the software creates a new projects folder, and I moved the projects in one by one, until I found the one that crashed it.
I suspect your solution would have been quicker however!
I just wish IMovie was less sensitive and just told me what the problem was!!
Thanks again.
