Video preview very slow. Is my hardware fine? (CS4)

I've searched around the internet and apparently this is a fairly common problem people have. Sadly, despite the commonality, I couldn't find any definitive fix or solution for these problems. My PC isnt the best ever, but it can handle itself.
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610
RAM: 8GB
Processor: AMD FX - 4300 Quad-Core Processor
  (I'm not a hardware guy so I honestly have no idea if this stuff is good. I'm a software kind of guy)
So is any of this stuff the problem? If so, what should I replace and with what? I usually get a frame of video every 2 seconds or so, which makes cutting in the correct place a big hassle along with seeing how clips blend together.

  • Video .f4v very slow

    Hello:
    I'm having problems playing f4v video is very slow. The size is 100 MB and resolution 1280x720. When I play out of Flash it reproduces well.
    I need to play in Desktop application not over Internet.
    What I'm doing bad? Is there anywhere to play well or wich is the better option to do it?
    thank you very much.
    This is my code:
    import flash.net.NetConnection;
    import flash.net.NetStream;
    import flash.media.Video;
    import flash.events.AsyncErrorEvent;
    //fullscreen
    stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;
    var conexion:NetConnection= new NetConnection();
    conexion.connect(null);
    var display:NetStream = new NetStream(conexion);
    display.play("videos/ocioelecer.f4v");
    var video:Video = new Video(1280,720);
    video.attachNetStream(display);
    addChild(video);
    display.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, noshow);
    function noshow(event:AsyncErrorEvent):void{
      //no show error
    display.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, statusHandler);
    function statusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void
        switch (event.info.code)
            case "NetStream.Play.Start":
                trace("Start [" + display.time.toFixed(3) + " seconds]");
                break;
            case "NetStream.Play.Stop":
            //End video
                            trace("Stop [" + display.time.toFixed(3) + " seconds]");
            (root.loaderInfo.loader.root as Object).removeSWF();
                break;

    100MB played locally is nothing. Most HDs have burst cache which can load up to 200MB instantly off disk. You shouldn't even need to (but might want to on a really 'value/green' rated drive) set the buffer to require 1 second of data before playing (bufferTime = 1).
    Are you using any kind of integrated graphics, like using a Z-esque Intel chipset with Intel 2000/3000/4000 graphics? Sometimes people over-estimate how well their built in hardware decoders perform.
    You always want to add Event listeners before you invoke a method that uses events. In your code you're adding listeners AFTER invoking a 'play(...)' method. Just for best practice, run the load(...) last.
    Lastly is the video available for inspection? 100MB for 10 seconds is 10MB/s, which is really only required in excessively high quality rendering with a huge gaumet with high motion. 9mbit is average full quality 720p (which is 1.25MB/s). You may have your bitrate set too high as moccamaximum mentioned if you are not in that video situation or striving for lossless video in ultra high motion.

    I own an Imac G5.  It is running very slow.  Did hardware test and got an error code 2STF/8/3:S-ATABUSO-Master.  What is my next step?
    Also how do i run disk first aid on the computer off of the install disks?  Which disk do i do it from.  Thanks in advance. Stuart

    Sounds like your hard drive it about to die.
    I would backup ASAP.
    To run First Aid on your disk, you need to boot from the install DVD for your Mac.
    After selecting the language, open Disk Utiltity and repair the disk.
    If it reports errors that DU is unable to repair, report them here and we will provide additional help.

  • Preview very slow with .nef photos

    My preview works well for .jpg but not .nef.
    Open folder, select 'all' right click, open with 'preview'. Very slow & jerky.
    Used to work fine with .nef in Mt. Lion.
    Any ideas?

    Same issue here, and 10.10.2 brings no solution… Haven't you heard yet, Apple is the new Microsoft?!
    Anyway, here a few tips to speed up Preview at least a bit, so one can use it for work again:
    tip1:
    Delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    Delete ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver*.plist
    Shutdown OSX
    Startup, immediately press and hold the P and R keys while holding down the option (⌥) and command (⌘) keys before the gray boot screen appears, which resets the PRAM
    tip2:
    Turn off "Smooth Text and Line Art" in the Preferences. Of course, that's really sad, because PDFs then look terrible, but at least they are easier to work with.
    tip3:
    For just viewing, use QuickLook: in the Finder, select the PDF and hit [SPACE]. Strangely, QuickLook isn't affected by the bug.
    Anyway, those workarounds helped me a bit (thanks to those who posted them), but of course it's no proper solution. The last option would be to go back to Mavericks.
    I heard the problem was reported to Apple when Yosemite was in beta, summer 2014. Nothing happened so far. Apple really has to get its act together…

  • Affter Effects "Cube" all four videos play very slow

    Hi everyone,
    As I have produced a rotating "Cube" . Four videos to play as the Cube rotates slowly from left to right.
    The negative is that all four videos in the rendered finished product play very slow.
    my wish is to have all four videos to play at  a normal speed.
    any input would be appreciated.
    yes I am new to After Effects and this is my best piece of work so far but the element of no realtime of the videos is
    troubling. Premiere Pro is coming nicely.
    Many thanks! Merry Christmas!

  • Live Cam Voice on HP DV8305 -- Video image very slow

    I installed Live! Cam Voice on my HP DV8305 succussfully, it works, but the video image is very slow. it needs about 30sec to capture a frame, sometime just stucked. I changed the Display Adaptive Driver, used differrent USB IF, checked my CPU and Memery usage, my HD space, use differrent IM -- skype, MSN, .... Any one can help?

    As further information, the issue seems to be with the exposure setting. When I turn auto exposure off, then set exposure down as low as it will go, the picture darkens, but the frame rate goes up. I don't have this problem with my Logitech QuickCam Orbit -- I'm not sure if the problem is with the firmware, or if the CMOS sensor in the Live! Cam Voice is just smaller.

  • Preview - very slow re-draw

    HI all
    One thing I've noticed in leopard is the new preview is very slow to re-draw when I have multiple image files loaded in. As a hit the next arrow it forms the next pic in big slow blocks unlike the previous preview that switched smoothly no matter how large the images were.
    Has anyone else experienced this

    I opened the pdf guide which is on the Leopard install disc. The whole machine went into a mini freeze state and then it eventually loaded. In tiger I have opened pdf's that were over 300mb in size and whilst there was an initial load it did then populate each page.
    I'm sure its just a glitch to be worked out and will be addressed in 15.1 update.

  • Video playback very slow/failing with both iGPU and dGPU enabled simultaneously

    Until a couple of months ago, my PC was running with an i5 760 and my current Radeon HD 7850 on Premiere Elements 11 just fine - playback was smooth and I could edit my videos just fine.
    However, recently I installed a new CPU and motherboard - an i7 4770K. The key feature here is that it has an integrated GPU (hence referred to as "iGPU") which can run in tandem with my current dGPU (discrete GPU, the HD 7850) by having encoding jobs such as rendering videos and transcoding sent to the iGPU in a feature called Quick Sync. In order to utilise this, I had to bind a virtual monitor to my motherboard's VGA port (as according to this post made by vaesauce on the OBS forums), and for all related applications it worked perfectly (HandBrake transcodes really quickly, and I can stream with OBS with negligible performance overhead). Except one - Premiere Elements 11.
    When I booted up Premiere Elements 11 to edit a short clip yesterday, I was greeted with a screen that informed me I had incompatible drivers. I went and checked my video drivers for both of my GPUs - both up to date - reinstalled them and rebooted. Tried once again, same issue. Going on to try and edit just resulted in audio playback, and a complete failure of video playback. I found the solution was to disable my iGPU in device manager, then it works fine.
    Now, here is my question - how can I have both the dGPU and iGPU enabled and still be able to edit videos with Premiere Elements 11? While it does work in this fashion, the constant going into device manager before and after editing a video is very annoying (also, I'm sure PrEl 11 could itself benefit from the QuickSync!)

    Don't disable the Intel GPU. Causes more problems then it fixes. Here's your solution believe it or not. Go to download.com and find the K-Lite Codec Pack_Full and install. It seems that the new updates have been messing peoples system's ability to read Codecs. This fixed my problem and I've been searching all day every day for over a week now.

  • AE CC ram previews very slow - no GPU support? Newbie trying to become not newbie, falling at first hurdle...

    Hello. I'm currently trialling After Effects CC though Adobe Cloud. But I've hit a snag immediately.
    I have an HD video edit in Premiere Pro which I want to dynamically import into AE to work on some bits.... I have imported the project file into AE, it seems to open just fine but the playback is intensely slow!
    I have an uncertified GPU - a Nvidia Geforce gtx 460 - too old? I was expecting it to help out a bit, I'm not doing anything too badass, just colour correcting a bit of HD footage.
    My processor is an i5 3.4ghz 4 core.
    Perhaps I'm missing something fundamental here!? Please tell me what I'm completely failing to grasp
    Thank you for your time,
    Tony

    Yup -- you're misssing a very basic item: AE doesn't work like Premiere Pro.  It's not anything like PP, and it doesn't behave like it.
    One way is the method you need to  play video.  Space bars just don't work.  You need to do a RAM Preview -- hit the zero key on the numeric keypad, let AE render the frames it can, and then it plays them back as fast as it can.

  • Powerful System With Bottleneck: PPro CS6 Preview Very Slow.

    Hello there!
    I'm a YouTube MotoVlogger filming with 3 GoPro cameras in 1080p, which I stack up in Premiere CS6 to get different angles. I also sometimes make use of a green-screen for other fun things and will export this as an uncompressed TGA-sequence from After Effects, with alpha of course.
    I've been having really bad problems trying to preview my project in Premiere CS6, and despite my system being fairly-powerful, I know there's a major bottleneck somewhere—probably with my HD setup with respect to editing. I basically can't preview a TGA sequence (which is repeated 3 times at different scales) without rendering first.
    Initially, I suspected my video card since it was a GTX550Ti and wasn't fully-supported, but only has 192 CUDA cores. I went and got a GTX 680 with 1536 CUDA cores but noticed no real improvement. I am also not getting any kind of yellow pre-render indicator in Premiere. It's just all red and doesn't preview well at all.
    My system specs:
    Dual XEON Hexacore, 24-cores total
    48GB RAM DDR3
    SSD Boot drive (OS)
    Main Drive: Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (Premiere installed here).
    3TB Backup drive (USB 3)
    NVIDIA GTX 680 Video
    Of course, had I known about this RAID stuff or that I would get heavy into editing, I would have gotten the system built with RAID 0, but I don't have it and I have a lot of stuff installed, from 3D Graphics to Audio software, vinyl cutting, etc.
    So, am I correct in my guess that my HD I/O is way too slow? I need to try setting the scratch disk to the SSD, but there's only 24GB available. Total storage is about 128GB or something like that.
    I was thinking of going with a USB3 External Raid 0 setup. Would this be a good fix for my Project files?
    Any help is appreciated.
    On an unrelated note, is it just me or is anyone else having issues using FireFox with this forum? My cursor keeps jumping back to a prior line of text! Super annoying.
    Thanks!

    I have read other messages that indicate that PPro does not LIKE to be installed to anything other than the boot drive... and it sometimes (often?) does not work properly if installed to anything other than the boot drive
    Since you have PPro installed to the same drive that you are using for video files, you are overloading your data transfer capability... in effect, you are using only one drive (see below)
    Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
    You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
    orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
    Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
    Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
    the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
    your video file at the same time as all the other work
    You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
    A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
    very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
    You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software
    on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down
    by trying to do everything
    Partition = Crash http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957286
    My 3 hard drives for video editing are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and ALL program installs (2)
    2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
    When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
    so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
    3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (1)
    (1) for faster input/output if you have 4 drives
    - use drive 3 for all source files
    - use drive 4 for all output files
    (2) only 70Gig used, for Win7 & CS5 MC & MS Office & other smaller programs

  • RAM PREVIEW VERY SLOW (FAR FROM REAL TIME) ON NEW MAC PRO

    Good afternoon
    I have the new mac pro with 8 cores, 64 Gb of Ram and dual AMD 700 graphic card, but the preview on After effects is slower than in the old mac pro (from 2010). I have set the preferences as told in your website and everything stills the same. Could you please advice? is very frustrating to see that a new machine works worse than the older one.
    thanks

    Attached below you can see some screenshots from the settings I have on AE CC

  • Internet video runs very slow.

    Internet video plays back consistently at about half speed or a little better. The audio plays normally. Other video on this computer runs fine — I play Blu Ray movies and edit HD in FCP X (occasional dropped frames but that is to be expected). If i download internet video to my hard drive,they play at normal speed sometimes, other times still wrong video playback speed but still normal audio playback. I can play other (non-internet) HD clips in Quicktime player with no problem.
    I formatted a drive and installed Lion again (latest OS that will run on this computer) -- installed Chrome and it worked fine, no problem with internet video playback. Then I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything and now I have the same problem as the old system. (also updated Flash Player) I've tested my internet speed and it's where it should be — 18Mbps. The problem occurs in Safari, Firefox and Chrome equally.
    It's doesn't seem to be a hardware problem or video card problem (I have two video cards, an Nvidia 8800 GT and a GeForce GT 120 — the setup is for DaVinci Resolve). And it seems like not a system problem — a clean install of Lion plays internet video just fine — until I transfer applications and user folder.
    What else can I try?

    Thanks for your reply.
    7 GB of RAM. I should mention that until recently (about a month), internet video worked just fine. Can't think of anything that has changed radically in last few months. No major new applications installed or other settings changed (although I might be wrong about that). I use this computer for video editing so I would have noticed. Charter Cable has tested from their end and they report no problems. Also tried plugging the computer directly into the cable modem (bypassing the network router) and same result.

  • Importing digital video is very slow

    Hi, I just bought a new Canon HF R40 camcorder and I am finding a few problems.  I've tried editing in iMovie 09 (iLife09) not sure if that's  and the program doesn't recognize the camera at all.  With the old iMovie program, I would just turn on the video camera and vio la...it recognzied it no problem.  This has left me with transferring movie clips directly from the SD card which seems painfully slow.  Now I was able to put together a short video with iMovie 09 but was unable to use any titles because the program would crash once I pressed the icon for Titles.  BTW I was taping in MP4 formate for the purpose of getting it on youtube.
    So my questions are:
    1.  Is editing from digital video vs DV tape slower in general?  At this rate I ask why anyone would find any pleasure in editing with digital video.
    2.  Is this because I'm transferring from an SD card vs directly from the camera?
    3.  Is iMovie 11 better at handling digital video?
    4.  Does anyone know why the program is crashing when using trying to use titles?
    I really appreciate any advice with this problem.  I figured it was time to upgrade into a new camcorder but it sure seems that DV Tapes are much easier to work with and I'm on the verge of just returning the camera.
    Thanks,
    Orlando

  • Mac apps won't open, very slow, wifi: no hardware installed.

    Hi, I am extremely frustrated right now. I recently software updated, but I'm having major issues. The IT department at my university couldn't handle this one. Basically, my MacBook won't do anything right now. It starts fine, and I can still access files so right now I'm working on transferring all of them. When I try to open an app, it will just bounce forever and I'll have to force quit it. Also, when my wifi is clicked, it says there is no hardware installed in grey type. Ive tried repairing permissions and everything short of a wipe/install....to my knowledge. I'm so frustrated right now so I'd love some input! Thanks!

    I have a file that is about 75 pages long, and a total of less than 1000 fields. It takes over 5 minutes to save or preview. What could be wrong?
    It loads fairly fast in Reader -- less than 30 seconds.
    I'm developing on Vista Home Premium, 2 GB Ram.
    Help!

    Any hints would be appreciated! :-)
