View windows exe icons on nautilus (GNOME)

I have been able to do it in the past but the method used looks not working anymore.
The basic idea is to view the windows executable files with their respective icons in nautilus........ How can i do this?
Thanks!

I am new to Arch so I might not do things the Arch way yet.  I have been a Debian user since the nineties. My share definitions are in /var/lib/samba/usershares.  I have not used smb.conf to create shares for years. But my goal of simple samba shared folders for my home network might not be your usage.
By duplicate icons - do you mean on the desktop? If so which one? I use Gnome 3.10 and I do not have Nautilus controlling the desktop, my desktop is blank. Are you loading external shares via fstab? The shared folders from your own computer should be just like any other folder to be mounted on another device in your network - and thus not show as mounted drives to your machine.
My thinking is that you have an icon defined for a share, and a second one because your desktop defaults to showing mounted drives. Or is this something else again? Nautilus will show mounted external folders in the left window pane automatically.
Well I use smb.conf. By duplicate icons I mean in Nautilus, when you click 'Browse Network' - the machine with the samba shares is shown twice (see this picture)

  • All of a sudden I cannot view windows startup icon when powering on

I partitioned startup disk a couple of years ago using bootcamp and typically use the "option" key to select which startup disk to boot i.e. OS X or Windows when starting up - however the windows icon is now not available on the screen to select only the mac startup disk.
Any suggestions on how to rectify this would be appreciated.
    Cheers,

Some of the reasons why a drive will not show up at the Startup Manager, is possibly corruption or an un-mounted drive. Try using Disk Utility to Verify Disk. Worst case scenario; you might have to remove and recreate that partition. From my experience, the SMC has been a known quick-fix for me, it's worth the try.

  • JPanel Scrollable mimic Windows Explorer Icon View

I am developing an image viewer application, and I want my thumbnail image JPanel to mimic MS Windows Explorer's layout in icon view. However, I have not been able to accomplish this. I have searched high and low, finding many others with my same problem, but no solution. To see exactly what I want to mimic, go to Windows Explorer and take a look at Icon View.
Windows Explorer seems to be using a type of FlowLayout, and the icons get wrapped to the next line. If the number of icons exceeds the viewable space, the vertical scrollbar appears. Note that there is no horizontal scrolling; only vertical scrolling with the FlowLayout. If the user adjusts the SplitPane, then the layout adjusts the scrolling and icons accordingly.
    ============================================================
QUESTION: How can I get my JPanel to mimic Windows Explorer Icon View?
    ============================================================
10 Dukes to anyone who can get this to mimic Windows Explorer. Ideally the solution would not be too involved.
P.S. I think it stinks that JPanel, by design, does not implement Scrollable Interface. Even then, it doesn't work the way I want it to with my FlowLayout and only vertical scrolling. Does anyone understand why it doesn't implement Scrollable, like JTextArea, JEditorPane, etc. do?
    Thanks

Thanks camickr! I didn't try your layout manager since I managed to find another one which seems to do the trick as well. Here is the link from which I found it:

It seems that in the source there is a small bug which is easy to fix. I think the boolean parameters in minimumLayoutSize and preferredLayoutSize should be changed.
    So in minimumLayoutSize():
    return computeSize(target, true);and in preferredLayoutSize():
return computeSize(target, false); After that fix, it worked just fine for me.

  • Accessing Windows CIFS Shares via Nautilus

    Hi,
I've recently installed and configured Solaris 11, am having problems accessing Windows CIFS shares via Nautilus.
I've installed both samba (needed for CUPS to print to printers connect to a windows pc) and smb/client. The smb/client and samba services are running. The smb/server service is not installed.
I can print to any printer on the windows PC I'm trying to access via Nautilus, so I know my username/password for accessing the pc are correct.
I can also manually mount any share on the windows PC via the cli (eg mount -F smfs -o user=elin //elink/users /mnt), and browse the files directly that way, except the file permisssions don't seem to align with any unix user. Again this just shows that the username/password combination is ok.
For Samba, I'm using the default smb.conf file as /etc/samba/samba.conf. Workgroup is set to WORKGROUP in smb.conf.
On the Windows pc, in the security event viewer, I can see the auth request, however is failing with bad password (event ID 4776, error code 0x006a). In the default group policy object for networking, I've set to accept "LM & NT, NTLMv2 when neogiatated", as this allows legacy clients to connect. (Legacy meaning NT4, Win95, etc, and also has the benefit of allowing other OSes to connect as well).
I'm also able to access the WIndows PC CIFS shares from an Arch Linux based setup (running GNOME 3.2 w/ Nautilus 3.2), so I doubt it's the Windows side of things causing the problems. Additionally, when I was running Solaris 10u9 (just before upgrading to Sol11), I was able to access the shares via Nautilus as well.
    So my question is:
    1. Does Nautilus use Samba or the Oracle smb/client service to handle mount windows CIFS shares?
    2. What log files or configuration files do I need to looking at to help with this error?
    As a side question,
I've found that on a clean installation running the "Print Manager" accesses CUPS fine, but once you install a printer, it'll no longer connect to CUPS, unless run from the cli "sudo system-config-printers". So this is a permissions issue, where's the best place to fix/handle that one.

Replying to my own thread, as I have a possible but very-hackish solution.
To add some further details to my original post.
There are 4 PCs on the LAN.
    1. Hellfire - OS = Solaris 11 11/11
    2. Brimstone - OS = Arch Linux
    3. Elink - OS = Win7 Pro x64 SP1
    4. IsaacPC - OS = WinXP Home SP3
Attempting to connect to Elink from Hellfire, accessing CIFS shares via Nautulis fails. (Mounting shares via Nautulis fails, but works fine from CLI using 'mount' command which to my understanding uses the smb/client service to work). Elink also hosts all the printers on the LAN, a HP LJ1200 and an Epson Fax/Printer/Scanner.
Helfire does attempt to authenticate, as listed in the event logs on the Win7 PC (elink), but is returning bad password when using Nautulis. (but printing from hellfire to either printer on elink works fine, as does mounting CIFS shares using 'mount').
Booting the live CD of Solaris 11, also exhibits the same non-working behaviour when attempting to mount CIFS shares in Nautulis.
Attempting to access CIFS shares on elink from Brimstone (via Nautulis 3.2 within GNOME 3.2), or from IsaacPC works fine.
    Hellfire configuration.
Samba is installed, but NOT running (samba is needed for accessing the printers on elink, as CUPS needs smbspool which is part of the samba package), and the native smb/client service is also running.
smb.conf is a direct copy of the default *.conf file, except the WORKGROUP is set to 'WORKGORUP'. There is a symlink to smb.conf in /etc/sfw/smb.conf -> /etc/samba/smb.conf
    Onto the hackish-fix.
I've noticed that there are 2 copies of libsmbclient.so installed on the system, one in /usr/sfw/lib (part of the "libsmbclient" package) and another in /usr/lib/samba (part of the "samba" package).
"libsmbclient" appears to be based on samba 3.5.8 codebase, and is linked to the gvfsd-smb daemon (this is the software that Nautulis uses to talk SMB to access CIFS shares).
"samba" is based on the samba 3.5.10 codebase, and it's installation has nothing to do with GNOME or Nautulis in any manner.
Using any of the samba included tools to test SMB/CIFS functions, work with 1 minor exception (which I'll list below). eg, using smbclient I can list all shares on any PC on the LAN, etc.
So as a hunch, I renamed the libsmbclient.so.0 in /usr/sfw/lib, and symlinked /usr/sfw/lib/libsmbclient.so.0 -> /usr/lib/samba/libsmbclient.so.0 (so that gvfsd-smb is linked against the slightly newer version of the libsmbclient.so as included in the samba package located in /usr/lib/samba).
I rebooted Hellfire, and now I'm able to access CIFS shares via Nautulis, provided that some form of authentication is needed (that is a username and password is needed - guest access and blanks passwords don't work - but these IMO should be disabled immediately as part of a baseline security package in regards to Windows - so no harm there).
Now to the minor exception I noted earlier. When using smbclient to actually connect and transfer files, I get:
ld.so.1: smbclient: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/libreadline.so.5: symbol tgetent: referenced symbol not found
As far as I know, tgetent is part of libtermcap.so, so I guess when building smbclient or libreadline.so, the link reference to termcap was left out? (or something like that). Anyway, that's another issue...

  • Shortcut icon replaced by windows file icon after installing 3.6.12 version

using W7. After installing version 3.6.12 and changing the persona i noticed that the mozilla icon on the task bar was replaced by a windows file icon.

You can try to reset the Windows icon cache.
    * Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC)
    * In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
    * Open the file picker via "File > New Task (Run)" and click the Browse button.
    * Type or Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local in the File name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
    * Select the file IconCache.db and use Delete in the right-click context menu to delete the file.
    * After the IconCache.db has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.
    * It is possible that the file IconCache.db is a hidden file and in that case you need to enable viewing hidden files. You can verify that you can see the file before doing the above mentioned steps.

  • In Mail, I can not open a viewer window

I just had my hard drive replaced on my 27 inch imac.  It came back with a new operating system (OSX10.7.5)  Along with that it had several software updates. One of which was Mail.  It is now at version 5.3.  When I went to open it, it asked to transfer over all the old to the new.  So it did but once that was over it never opened a viewer window.  I then went to FILE to "Open viewer window".  That didn't work either.  I right clicked on the Mail icon in my dock and it said it wasn't responding so I had to force quit.  Same results happen everytime I open MAIL.  Please help.

With Mail open press Command + Option + Esc to force quit the Mail app.
Then restart your Mac and try Mail.

  • Mail Viewer Window Does Not Open on Launch. Mail Will Not Quit. MAIL BADGER

<UPDATE> After detailing all of the problems below, I discovered that trashing the Mail Badger bundle solved all of the below problems. I am still posting this just in case anybody else has this problem.
    Problems:
    1. When opening mail.app, the program opens, but it does not launch a Viewer Window. I can open a viewer window manually from the File menu, however.
    2. When quitting mail.app, it will not quit. It does not matter whether I hit command-Q, or Mail>Quit Mail, or right-click on dock icon and click Quit. The only way for me to quit is Force Quit. No matter what Quit command I execute, nothing happens. The Viewer Window does not close. (The Viewer Window will close on command, however, either by clicking the red 'x' or by command-W, or by File>Close.
    3. Cannot send mail from mail.app. Upon clicking "send" on a new email, it just goes to the Outbox and sits there forever. I can try sending the email again from the Outbox, but nothing happens. (I have 4 gmail accounts, with a couple thousand messages between them. There are no problems with port configurations or smtp servers or anything like that - I am fairly certain anyway because nothing has changed w/ regard to the account settings between the time it was working and the time it stopped working.)
    4. After minimizing the Viewer Window, clicking on the mail.app dock icon does not restore the Viewer Window. The only way to restore the Viewer Window is to click on the Viewer window itself in the dock, rather than clicking on the application icon.
Notes: I have installed 10.4.10. I have also installed Safari Beta 3.0.2
I previously installed Safari Beta 3.0, then uninstalled it and upgraded to 3.0.2. I don't recall when the problems started, (under 3.0 or 3.0.2), but they all happened at the same time (rather than one at a time).
I have uninstalled Safari 3 and reverted to Safari 2, but this does not fix the problems.
    I have repaired disk permissions.
I have booted from the OS X Install disk and repaired my startup disk.
I have not had any problems with Safari 3 "hanging" on install, thus corrupting the WebKit, as described in other threads.

I had the same issue and resolution. Spotlight search for "Mail Badger" and deleting everything resolves the issue.
    I'm also running Safari 3.0.2 and 10.4.10...
I've emailed the developer to let him know about it..

  • After an upgrade to 10.8.5 I can not see my mails with Mail. No "Message Viewer" window- When open it from menu "Window" I have the message "Mail quit unexpectedly"

    Hi there
I just upgrade to 10.8.5 (from snow leopard on an '08 iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB memory) and I have a problem with Mail
While during migration there was no problem and it looks like all my massages was transferred (more than 17.000 mails) when I open Mail there is no "Message Viewer" window and if I try to open it from menu "Window" I have the message "Mail quit unexpectedly" (I have report it to Apple).
So I can not see my mails!!
Otherwise everything looks "OK" with Mail. I can see all my accounts in Preferences, I can see other windows like Activity, I can even see the red indicator with he new mails on the Mail icon on the Dock… But I can not quit Mail, only Force quit…
Thank you in advance for your help.
I am really sorry but If there will be no solution I am afraid I will go back to snow leopard…

  • BO XI R2 - "Blank "Crystal Reports Viewer" window - attempt to print report

My company recently set up a Business Object Enterprise XI Release 2 server.  On the server are a number of crystal reports that are run interactively by users, through the user console.  The expectation is that the user will log on to the BI server, click on the report title, enter the parameters, see a preview of the report in the Crystal Report Viewer, then click the print icon on the Crystal Report Viewer toolbar.
Our corporate standard is current Windows XP SP3, with Internet Explorer 8;  By default, users are set up to use the DHTML report viewer.  The reports were developed with the Crystal Reports XI R2 report designer, and connect to an Oracle 10g database through Oracle client.
When users attempt to view, then print the reports, the user is able to select the report, enter the parameters, view the report data, and even page through the report preview with no issues.  However, when the user attempts to print the report by clicking the print icon on the Crystal Reports Viewer toolbar, a blank "Crystal Reports Viewer" window pops up and remains indefinitely.
The really puzzling thing about this issue is that for about 1/3 of our users, printing will work - a print dialog will appear, allowing the user to select a printer, and when the user clicks OK, the report will print.   For the other 2/3 of our users, the blank "Crystal Reports Viewer" window pops up.
I have added the BO XI R2 server's address to trusted sites, adopted the lowest security settings for trusted sites, and enabled all activity I could think of in IE security settings (ActiveX controls-related).  I also ran the web site in compatibilitiy mode.
Has anyone on this forum experienced this issue, and does anyone here know how to resolve it?
    Thank you,
    Bob Gardner

I suspect that this behavior occurs because the client computer is unable to download ActiveX controls.
The report viewer requires the PrintControl.dll to print reports from the client computer. The PrintControl.dll downloads automatically if it has not been previously downloaded on to the client computer, provided that the user that is currently logged on is able to download ActiveX controls.
To enable the download of ActiveX controls on the client computer, perform the following steps:
    1) Open your Internet Explorer.
    2) From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
    3) In the Security tab, select the web content zone that corresponds to your web application.
    4) Click Custom Level.
    5) In the Security Settings dialog box, scroll down to find the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section.
    6) Select Enable or Prompt for the Download signed ActiveX controls item.
    7) The print dialog box will now appear successfully when clicking the print button in the report viewer.
If the above does not help, try to troubleshoot this as follows:
    1) click the print button (this will cause a postback to the web page) and then cancel the print dialog. right-click in the web page and select "View Source".
    2) Search for the word "printcontrol.cab". This will show you where the application is trying to download the printcontrol from.
Paste the URL into a browser.
    3) If you get prompted to "open or save to disk" the url is correct and there is a browser setting or possibly even a system policy preventing the download.
    4) If you get a "404 page not found" or a similar error message, investigate the URL.
    5) If the issue is on your local web server, see if it is possible to browse to the URL in IIS manager.

  • SWTOR .exe icon does not show correctly

right after updating to 16.0.2 the .exe launcher icon for Star Wars The Old Republic changed from the default swtor icon to the generic 'windows page' icon. this is the exe launcher icon on my win 7 x64 task bar and in the start menu. removed both icons from both places and re-added (rt click 'add to task bar/start menu) from the swtor folder. each time the proper icon changes to the generic windows 'short cut' icon.
any ideas why this would happen and how to fix it? thanks

Worked like a charm. knew about the work-around but had forgotten it... thanks for the reminder and the help, well done!

  • Windows Folder icon instead of Officejet 6500a Plus E710n icon in Devices and Printers

Can anyone help me to get the OfficeJet 6500a Plus e710n printer icon to display properly in Devices and Printers?
I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1.  However, when I installed my printer, instead of the printer icon appearing in Devices and Printers I get a generic yellow Windows folder icon.  The Fax icon is OK, just the printer icon is wrong.
If I double click on the icon, I get a mostly blank page with a message near the top saying: "Updated information is available about your device.  Click here to download or learn more."  If I click on the notice, a dropdown menu appears with "Download updated information" or "Learn more".  If I choose downloaded update information, a new printer window appears which is mostly blank except for a message at the centre of the window which says, "No tasks are available on this page"  The Learn more option just gives me info about updating drivers.
The printer icon on the Start menu is fine.
I've used HP Print and Scan Doctor to uninstall and reinstall my printer but this hasn't helped.  The program found a problem with the printer driver and fixed it, but that hasn't changed the icon either.
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit fully up to date, and used the latest full version of the HP installation program for the printer (not the basic version) and HP Print and Scan Doctor v4.6.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Try following these steps and let me know if that may help:
From the control Panel select Network and internet and open the Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Change Advanced Sharing Center.
Ensure that Network Discovery is trned on but uncheck the box next to "Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices".
From devices and printer right click the printer and select Remove Device, repeat the for the Fax icon.
Note: if no such option exists for the printer follow the next steps.
Right click the background area and select Device Mahager.
Remove any instance of the printer from Imaging Devices, Printers, Print Queues, Multifunction Adaptors, Other Devices (if a such exists).
Once you are done the printer should no longer appear under Devices and Printers...
Open teh HP Officejet 6500 E710 software, select Connect a new Printer and check for any differnce.
    Hope that helps,
    Shlomi

  • Yoga 2 Upgrade to Windows 10 - icon missing

I have Lenovo Yoga 2 13'' laptop running Win 8.1 I had a Win 10 icon (reserver your Win 10) and.... it disappeared 4 days ago. I tried all possible scripts and tips online, here is what I've done: All tricks fromhttp://www.askvg.com/fix-get-windows-10-upgrade-app-icon-is-missing-in-taskbar/  Nothing  I read somewhere it might be because I had Win 8 and upgraded to 8.1 I do not need to reserver, want to make sure I will update when MS releases it... Any thoughts? Any ideas?

    hi m1979,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Can you ensure that the KB2919355 (Windows 9.1 Update) and KB3035583  are both installed from the locations below (the latter is responsible for adding the Get Windows 10 update notification).
If doesn't work then you can opt to go back 4 or more days ago prior to the problem using System Restore and
Control Panel (icon views) > Programs and Features > View installed updates
Control Panel (icon views) > Windows Updates > View Update History
In addition, you don't really need to reserve and you can still get Windows 10 wihout the reservation.
     From the Windows 10 Q&A:
Can I get my free Windows 10 upgrade even if I didn’t reserve?
Yes. The easiest way to get the free upgrade is to reserve, but you can upgrade even if you don’t reserve.
Once Windows 10 is available, we’ll begin notifying devices that their free upgrade is available. Just open the Get Windows 10 app to schedule your upgrade. Note: Some notifications will go out as soon as Windows 10 is available; others may go out in the weeks or months following.

  • Duplicate Mail Viewer Window appearing without apparent reason

This isn't a leopard Mail problem per se. It was exactly the same in Tiger and stayed this
way after an archive and install (preserve settings).
I connect via imap to a server (Novell groupwise)
If I click and hold on the Junk folder icon and do Delete Junk Mail
This works, but automatically also opens up a new Mail window with all the folders to the left
etc as if I asked it to open a New Viewer Window.
It also happens some other times but I can't recall the conditions.
Yes, I have tried moving the preference file out to the desktop
and no, there is nothing special in any rules. I just have the Junk rule
    and stop rule, stock standard.

    Hi Peter,
Since it is a different provider, I guess we can't just blame the provider.
The only thing that seems to work with the iPad is to tell the unit to delete the email account information and then reenter the information manually. Doing that every few days is getting frustrating for the users over on the other forum.
That may be the only solution for your case, delete the account information and reenter all of it. If you go that route, I would say get rid of all of it, not just the password item. Something strange is going on here with OS's resetting information unilateraly.

  • Can the brushes be mapped to the area below the viewer window?

I have sent in a recommendation to map the brushes individually so you don't have to select the brush icon then the brush you want. But I am just wondering if there is a way somewhere to do this and I just don't know about it?
I would like to map the brushes individually below the Viewer window or in full screen mode so I can quickly switch between them.

I agree. The Radial Menu is extremely fast and useful once you get used to it.
You can still map the proper brush commands to single keys on the keyboard and use that. And most (all?) the Quick Brushes are still just two clicks away on the Toolstrip.
You can make a feature request for more and customizable buttons on the Toolstrip: "Aperture→Provide Aperture Feedback".

  • How to view records as icons in several columns

    Hi
I cannot find the way how to show report representing records as icons organized in several columns - similary as applications are shown if "Icons" view is selected in HTMLDB 2.0 development environnment homepage. No available report template did the job.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks a lot :-)))

    Hi Vikas
Thanks for the tip. It was interesting insight into HTMLDB internals....
I'we found the way how to do the same job with a standard report template by building the SELECT in the following way:
    select col1,col2,col3,col4,col5
    from(
    select
    opportunity_name col1,
    lead(opportunity_name,1,'') OVER (ORDER BY opportunity_name) col2,
    lead(opportunity_name,2,'') OVER (ORDER BY opportunity_name) col3,
    lead(opportunity_name,3,'') OVER (ORDER BY opportunity_name) col4,
    lead(opportunity_name,4,'') OVER (ORDER BY opportunity_name) col5,
case when mod(rank () OVER (ORDER BY opportunity_id) -1,5)=0 then 1 else 0 end endofline
    from opportunities
    order by opportunity_name)
    where endofline=1
BTW: It's a tip for HTMLDB developers

What about to add the classical Windows File Explorer Viewer with "Small Icons/Large Icons/List Detail" display options as one of standard report templated???
