  • Difference between saved views & workbooks

    Hello,
    I still cannot see what is the technical difference between a view and a workbook. When is one used over the other? Both contains saved results.
    Pls could help enlighten.
    regards,
    Pascal

    hi kishore,
    We use workbooks for excel formating,like font changes, lay out changes etc...
    Workbooks into which queries are inserted are no different in appearance than other Excel workbooks.
    They can be saved as files, copied, sent and (using Excel functions) edited however you like and even supplemented with other data.
    Views are primarily used for BW Web Reports, it is similar to the concept of workbooks is for BEx.A local view can be accessed only within a workbook in which it was saved, where as a global view can be accessed globally in the system, it is not attached to a workbook. Only Global view can be used in BW Web Templates.
    u can seee the help doc for more details:

  • How to open a defult workbook from Discoverer Plus

    Hi all,
    Is it possible in Discoverer Plus for a user to open a pre defined worksheet in a workbook when he logs in without having to select the workbook and then select the worksheet?
    Please advise how to achive this.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all.
    Yjk

    Hi Yjk
    This is possible but you will have to alter the URL call to do it and add the workbook name to the end of the URL.
    You can use either the names of workbooks and worksheet or unique IDs of workbooks and worksheets. Using unique IDs is easier and helps avoid encoding problems with long names. Unique IDs are language independent. The following are the URL parameters to use while working with workbooks and worksheets.
    Discoverer Plus Relational:
    Workbooks:
    opendbid=<workbook ID>
    opendbname=<workbook name>
    Worksheets:
    sheetid=<worksheet ID>
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer Viewer:
    Workbook:
    wbk=<workbook ID>
    wb=<workbook name>
    Worksheet:
    wsk=<worksheet ID>
    ws=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer OLAP:
    Workbooks:
    workbookname=<workbookname>
    Worksheets:
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Note: Discoverer Plus OLAP uses only workbook and worksheet names.
    Examples below:
    How to Find the Unique IDs of Workbooks and Worksheets
    To find the unique ID of a workbook, use thie workflow:
    1. Launch the Open Workbook from Database wizard
    2. Right-click the workbook name
    3. Select Properties.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the workbook.
    Alternatively, when the workbook is open, select File | Workbook Properties.
    To find the unique ID of a worksheet, use this workflow:
    1. With the worksheet open, select Edit | Worksheet Properties
    2. The Worksheet Properties dialog box opens.
    3. Click the General tab.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the worksheet.
    The following URL starts Discoverer Viewer and opens a worksheet with the unique ID "156", which is present in the workbook whose unique ID is "MONTHLY_SALES". The connection ID used is "cf_a101".
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/viewer?cn=cf_a101&wbk=MONTHLY_SALES&wsk=156
    If the connection that is used here is a private connection, the user will be prompted for the password.
    In Plus, the same command is:
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/plus?cn=cf_a101&opendbname=MONTHLY_SALES&sheet=156
    Does this help?

  • Broadcasting of workbooks, auto-refresh and other questions

    Hello Reporting gurus.
    Our users run BEX Analyser queries but this is evolving towards more automation and fancy things. A lot of threads exist on the subject but I have not been able to find clear answers. We are on BI 7.
    1) How do we use the broadcaster to refresh workbooks and output the results to a network share drive.
    2) Queries being part of the workbooks work with user input variables. Do I have to change all queries (or create new ones identical) with user exits variables to fill in the fields for auto-refreshing w(ith let say the current year and current fiscal period etc...) ?
    3) Is it possible to create a parameter input screen to pass on variables values to the broadcaster before the auto-refresh takes place so that I don't have to create user exit variables ?
    4) How can we view workbooks with the BEX WEB Analyser ? Or do we have to create an application with WAD ?
    Thanks

    Hi Yves,
    in Analyzer you have an menu entry publish with BI broadcaster, then a broadcaster will appear. there you can create a setting. inside that setting you can use a variant and with SPS 13 also variable sets. There you can define the users who should receive the updated workbook by mail. It is not possible to save to file system, but you can save in Portal.Web Analyzer is only to use with WAD and is not able to process Workbooks.

  • Disco 4i viewer and username problem in URL

    Hey there.
    I'm trying to call a Disco Viewer workbook from a simple URL. The problem is that I want any user to click on the URL and then it should go to Viewer and ask for their username.
    I know about the doc concerning URLs in the Disco Viewer manuals, but the problem is, if I code the user's responsibility (rs=), the eul (eul=), etc. and also the username (us=), then fine, it works and just asks for the user's password.
    But if I take out the username (us=), then Viewer makes you put in the username, responsibility, password, etc. - in otherwords, won't let me just enter the username and already have the responsibility, etc. coded.
    I've tried enter stuff like: us=?, or us='', or us=, or us="", etc. or not us= at all, but I can't get it just to ask the username.
    Anyone done this and know what I'm missing - or is this a feature of Disco Viewer?
    Thx. in advance.

  • Please install excel as a viewer

    Dear All,
    I am having the similar problem like many here before. Unable to Open the reports. RRMX is not working. Gives a message "Please instal excel as a viewer".
    I have read through all the posts related to this topic in this forum. Have gone through the OSS Note 160995. Have even tried to download the SAP BW 3.5 AddOn Patch on WIKI FAQ. But that patch is not downloading, seems corrupted or not existing. Have reinstalled and installed MS Office. Have reinstalled SAP Front end components also.
    None of the above seem to have solved my problem. Please help, am totally lost.

    Hi,
    The BEx Analyzer is an Add-on for Microsoft Excel. This sounds like a problem with your patch level, although it could also be an authorization problem. If it is a patch issue, you will need to get your Basis team to match the SAP GUI patch with the BEx you are running. If it is an authorizations issue, you will need to add the authorization object to view Workbooks. Either way, try running ST22 and see if it shows the error message. If it shows up here, it will have details about exactly what is going wrong and what you need to do to repair it. Hope this helps somewhat.
    Cheers,
    Rusty

  • Configuring 9ias to access discoverer workbook stored in db.

    hi,
    Can anybody let me know how do u config ur 9ias to access any discovere 3i viewer workbook stored in database.
    thanxs in advance...
    Jagadeeswar Reddy

    Hi Joanne
    Well typically one only links Viewer from within E-Business Suite.
    However, if you're able to set up a button that has a URL link you should be able to connect to Plus. The issue would be whether the user's connection information could be passed this way and, to be totally frank, I have a suspicion that this is not possible. I have a nasty feeling that the user would need to re-authenticate to Plus.
    Viewer is different and it is possible to automatically pass the logged in user's authentication details.
    There are some talented folks in this forum who use E-Business Suite a lot more than I do and if I have made a mistake I know I will be corrected.
    Best wishes

  • Not able to see the workbook created

    Hi all,
    I have created a workbook in Dev system with my id and i am not able to view that workbook when i login with other id's apart from my id.
    Is there any authorizations that needs to be maintained in order to be able to view workbooks created by other id's
    And also when i transported the workbook that i have created to TST system,even there i am not able to view that workbook using any of the id's including my id.
    Kindly let me know if there are any roles that needs to maintained in order to view the workbooks

    Dear
    Check where u have created this workbook. Is it in your favorites then no one else will able to see it.
    Add this in any role and then attach that role to other users.
    Also will transporting to another client transport the role including that workbook.
    It will work properly.

    I have Office 365 base Intranet. I have Power View for Excel report file.

    I would like rest of 1000 users to view reports without Power BI for license reason.
    What is solution?

    Hi Kenny!
    Power View workbooks can be viewed on Office 365 by any user who has an O365 E3 license. To use Power BI specific features such as Q&A all users will require the Power BI license.

  • Error while activating BI Content infocube - 0IMFA_1(IM: Assigned Plan Bud)

    Dear All,
    While I am trying to activate the Business Content cube 0IMFA_1(IM: Assigned Plan Budget (Operative) ) with Collection Mode 'Automatic' and Grouping ' In dataflow bef and afterwords', I am getting the following error -
    " Object 0IMPLAN (Currency Translation Type,CTRT) could not be collected for object 1308CQ25VCD0H9UCVDTKXM7BB (Query,ELEM)

    I am unable even to find this object.
    Kindly let me know how to solve this issue.
    Many Thanks in Advance,
    With Warm Regards,

    The log says, infoobject 0IMPLAN is not available in Metadata repository.
    To make sure, RSA1--> BI Content --> Object types --> under InfoObject (middle window), double click 'Select Objects' and search for infoobject '0IMPLAN'. (in ur system its not available).
    What u have to do is:
    Either collect object by selecting Grouping ' In dataflow before' , so that u can insatll all backend objects and do the data loads.
    Then, install frontend object,by selecting Grouping ' In dataflow afterwords'
    OR
    Since u have selected Grouping ' In dataflow bef and afterwords'...
    After the collection is over, from right most window, select 'Query elements'  --> right click --> Donot install any below
    Do the same for BEx web template, Web Items, Querey Views, workbooks etc

  • Error while using RSCRM_BAPI with remote cubes

    Hi,
       We are getting short dump while trying to use RSCRM_BAPI with hierarchies i.e.display hierarchies to extract data to a flat file.
    We do get a warning that display hierachies are not longer supported in 2004s with RSCRM_BAPI and have been going on and on with SAP development.  They are saying we need to find alternatives.
    I wanted to know if anybody has tried using display hierarchies with RSCRM_BAPI in 2004s if not then I would like to know what are my options in getting a flat hierarchy report on to a flat file?
    I dont think infospoke supports flat hierarchy extracts as infoproviders dont store hierarchy information.
    Thanks

    Heres my thought -
    to use Bex Broadcaster to download the information,am not sure if RSCRM_BAPI is replaced by new functionality ,might wait for SAP to confirm.
    <b>Key capabilities:-</b>
    1)The right information:Based on BExqueries, views, workbooks, Web applications & enterprise reports
    2)In different formats:HTML, MHTML, PDF, ZIP, printer formats, online links, SAP alerts…
    3)To the right people:e.g., single users, groups, distribution lists, user-specific or role-specific (incl. non-SAP users)
    4)In different channels:e-mail, Portal, BExPortfolio (unified access based on Knowledge Management folders), collaboration rooms, Universal Work List…
    At the right time:event driven, exception driven, ad-hoc, scheduled

  • Best Practice for BEX Query "PUBLISH to ROLE"?

    Hello.
    We are trying to determine the best practice for publishing BEX queries/views/workbooks to ROLEs.
    To be clear of the process I am referring: from the BEX Query Designer, there is an option QUERY>PUBLISH>TO ROLE.  This function updates the user menu of the selected security role with essentially a shortcut to the BEX query.  It is also possible to save VIEWS/WORKBOOKS to a role from the BEX Analyzer menu.  We have found ROLE menus to be a good way to organize BEX queries/views/workbooks for our users.
    Our dilemma is whether to publish to the role in our DEV system and transport to PROD,... or if it is ok to publish to the role directly in the PROD system.
    Publishing in DEV is not always possible, as we have objects in PROD that do not exist in DEV. For example, we allow power users to create queries directly in PROD.  We also allow VIEWS and WORKBOOKS to be created directly in PROD.  It would not be possible to publish types of objects in DEV.
    Publishing in PROD eliminates the issues above, but causes concerns for our SECURITY team.  We would be able to maintain these special roles directly in PROD.
    Would appreciate any ideas, suggestions, examples of how others are handling this BEX publish-to-role process.
    Thank you.
    -Joel

    Hi Joel,
    Again as per the Best Practices.Nothing to be created in PRD,even if we create them in PRD for Power users its assumed as temprory and can be deleted at any time.
    So if there are already deviations then you can go for deviations in this case as well but it wont be the Best Practice.Also in few cases we have workbooks created in PRD as they cud nt be created in DEV due to various reasons...in such cases we did not think of Best Practice ,we had a raised an OSS on this aswell.
    In our Project,we have done everything in DEV and transported to PRD,in case there were any very Minor changes at query level we have done in PRD and immedialtely replicated the same in DEV so that they are in SYNC.

  • RMI protocol over JRMP transport error when accessing Discoverer Plus

    Hi,
    I just upgraded my Discoverer to 9.0.2.54.01. I can successfully access my Discoverer Viewer Workbooks but not my Discoverer Plus. When I try to access Plus, Applet will be started, and then it will prompt the RMI protocol error:
    Attempt 1.  RMI protocol over JRMP transport: Connection refused to host: 127.0.0.1; nested exception is:*
    java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect*
    Attempt 2.  RMI protocol over http transport : Unable to attach to existing session.*
    I used browsers Mozilla3.0.5 and IE7.
    Thanks!

    Hi Andy
    It could be a Java incompatibility issue. On one of your client machines try removing Java altogether and then reconnecting to Discoverer Plus. The server should send down a new, clean version of the Java.
    Try this and let me know how you get on

    Dear MS Support,
    i'm newbie in sharepoint, especially in sharepoint 2013. i'm interest in MS BI and collaboration with sp2013.

    and here the error and the capture when i try to re config the reporting service.
    and
    so please help me to solved this issue.
    thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Bambang

    Hi,
    You need to choose to either use Excel services or Excel Web Apps they both have advantages. To suppress opening the file in Excel webApps use the following PowerShell cmdlet, this will resolve the error
    New-SPWOPISuppressionSetting –Extension “XLSX” -Action “view”
    New-SPWOPISuppressionSetting –Extension “XLS” -Action “view”
    This will allow Excel services to be used to view the files or your installed Desktop Client used to edit them..
    Excel Web App and Excel Services in SharePoint have a lot in common, but they are not the same. Excel Services is available only in the Enterprise edition of SharePoint Server 2013. Excel Web App is available in SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Foundation
    2013. Both applications enable you to view workbooks in a browser window, and both enable you to interact with and explore data.
    But there are certain differences between Excel Web App and Excel Services in SharePoint. For example, Excel Services supports external data connections, data models, and the ability to interact with items that use data models (such as PivotChart reports,
    PivotTable reports and timeline controls). Excel Services provides more business intelligence functionality than Excel Web App, but Excel Services does not enable users to create or edit workbooks in a browser window.
    Reference:
    For details about the differences between the Excel Web App and Excel Services, see
    Overview of Excel Services in SharePoint Server 2013 and
