Viewing existing partitions

Hi ,
How can I view whether partitions exist for a table and what is the range and what is the type . I mean how can I view the details of a partition of an existing table.
Regards,
Rahul.

  • How do you resize existing partitions on an external hard-drive without deleting their contents?

    Hi, I've got an external hard drive (1 GB Western digital) Which I bought with a view to both storage and time-machine functions.
    Initially, I partitioned the hard drive such that I had 750 GB for the time-machine segment, and 250 GB for the storage segment.
    Now that my storage is approaching the 250 GB limit, and my time machine is only taking up 80 of the alloted 750 GB, I want to transfer some of that space across so that I'll have more room for storage.
    When attempting this on disk utility, I can reduce the size of the time machine partition, but I am unable to increase the size of the storage partition.
    Can someone please advise what I should do to sort this out without deleting the contents of each partition.
    Regards,
    Josh

    Well, this is not easily answered. You can shrink existing partitions in order to add additional ones. But in order to add space from one partition to another that can only be done by first removing the lower partition first. If that partition has data, then it will be lost. Unfortunately, Disk Utility cannot manipulate partitions in place. You need a third-party utility for that, iPartition 3.4.1.
    Now with that said I'll pass on a bit of advice. Do not us your Time Machine backup drive for extra storage. External storage and backups should be kept on separate drives. I suggest you get a separate drive for your storage or Time Machine backups.
    If you use Disk Utility you can shrink your Time Machine partition, but the only way to put that space in another partition is to first delete the storage partition, then recreate it with a larger capacity.

    HDD is a Toshiba 1TB, partitioned into two 500GB partitions.

    Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.
    Now
    Have you tried to repair the disk yet

  • Materialized view and Partition

    Hi,
    I want to discuss a scenario, with which i am dealing nowadays. there is only a single table (named livecdr ) has 22-23 fields and the records are updating in every sec (on daily basis) and in 24hrs livecdr contains approximately more than 2 crore records.
    Problem is that the query processing time is so slow due to large number of records and query is fetching records from a view created on livecdr table. I want to know the options, how the query would fetch these records in a short time. Firstly i did range partitioning on livecdr and then i created materlized view but the view didn't create on partition table and when i removed partitioning it was created. After view creation, query performance is much better. i also applied indexing on livecdr.
    Can you please tell me, whether this approach is okay or i am doing mistake. should i create partitioning on materialized view and how would i select records from view if partitioning would be applied on materialized view. Please guide me with best approaches.
    thankyou.

  • Why can't you encrypt an existing partition?

    I've looked around for a tool like ccrypt for partitions but to no avail. In fact I came across a thread on this forum that simply stated it wasn't possible. Why can't you encrypt existing partitions? Or is there a way to do it?

    You should look at TrueCrypt. You can use encrypted containers where are essentially encrypted partitions that can also be hidden. TrueCrypt supports on-the-fly disk encryption, this may be what you are looking for.

  • Howto Reinstall Win XP in an existing partition?

    Hi everybody,
    I want to reinstall Win xp but I have different partitions in the HD,because I have another OS installed, but the recovery cd will format the entire disk erasing my data.
    I know that there's the possibility to reinstall Win in an existing partition with the "expert mode installation" but I don't know how can I do.
    Someone can help me please?
    thanks
    Rick

    Hi Rick
    On this forum you can use Advanced search option to find some solutions if someone wrote about it before.
    Anyway check this please http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125
    Using expert mode you can choose on which partition the Operating system should be installed.

  • Increasing size of existing partition

    My curent Windows XP bootcamp partition is 35 Gigs using FAT. I would like to increase the size to 90 Gigs. I underdstand this requires the NTFS format. Can I increase the existing partition size without starting over? I don't want to reinstall Windows and all the Applications.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    to my knowledge the resizing can only be done with NTFS Windows partitions not with FAT32 partitions.
    CampTune http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ would be my choice for the resizing.
    You can convert your FAT32 partition to NTFS before doing the resize using these instructions http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B307881&x=3&y=15
    For safety reasons you might backup your valuable files from your current Windows before resizing.

  • Satellite 2450: How to reinstall WXP on existing partition from recovery disc?

    Hello:
    This question has been asked before, but the answer is as follows:
    On this forum you can use Advanced search option to find some solutions if someone wrote about it before.
    Anyway check this please
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125
    I checked this and it gives an answer how to create a partition but not how to reinstall xp in the c drive from the recovery disk.
    There is the choice to go to expert, but once there I have no idea what to do. Lots of potential settings, but nothing to say how to reinstall xp without wiping out all the other drives.
    Thanks for any help

    Hello tw
    Like I said in my explanation If you want to install OS on a partition please use Expert mode. In this case the software can be installed onto an existing partition. You can also make one by yourself.
    If you want to install the OS on existing partition make it on this way:
    1) put Recovery CD or DVD in DVD drive
    2) pres power button and after that press and hold down C button
    3) after short time there is an menu and choose Expert mode pressing number 2
    4) Approve OK pressing ENTER button
    5) Choose LOCAL > PARTITION > FROM IMAGE
    6) Look in: must be selected to CD-ROM drive and In the middle window choose GHO file and press ENTER
    7) The information about drive will be shown > press ENTER again
    8) The local destination drive will be shown > press ENTER again
    9) The next window show both partition if you have two of them. On this place you must chose the destination partition (the first one is under Part 1)
    10) The OS will be installed on marked partition (you can change it using UP and DOWN buttons)
    11) If the partition is selected press ENTER button
    12) The small Information window appear with follow content: Proceed with partition load? Destination partition will be permanently overwritten.
    13) Confirm with OK
    I hope that your installation will be successful.
    If you have more questions please write again and I hope that we will find an solution.
    Good luck!

  • How to interpose a partition within two existing partitions?

    Hello,
    the following question concerns Oracle 10g.
    Suppose I have a simple partitioned thus table :
    CREATE TABLE table2000
    x int,
    y int,
    z date
    PARTITION BY RANGE(z)
    PARTITION PART_DEFAULT VALUES LESS THAN (MAXVALUE)
    NOCACHE
    NOPARALLEL
    NOMONITORING;
    I use a stored procedure which creates a new partition based on a date argument each time it is called and works by splitting
    the default partition above (PART_DEFAULT):
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE CREATE_PARTITION_X(
         vTable IN VARCHAR2,
         vDate IN VARCHAR2
    ) IS
    V varchar2(300);
    BEGIN
    v :='ALTER TABLE '|| vTable ||' SPLIT PARTITION PART_DEFAULT AT (to_date('''||vDate || ''',''YYYYMMDD'')) INTO (PARTITION PART_'||vDate ||',PARTITION PART_DEFAULT)';
    execute immediate v ;
    END CREATE_PARTITION_X;
    To create partitions I run:
    /* CREATE A PARTITION FOR "JAN 01 2009" DATA (note partition name corresponds to January 02 2009) */
    1. SQL> CREATE_PARTITION_X('table2000','20090102');
    /* CREATE A PARTITION FOR "JAN 03 2009" DATA */
    2. SQL> CREATE_PARTITION_X('table2000','20090104');
    /* CREATE A PARTITION FOR "JAN 04 2009" DATA */
    3. SQL> CREATE_PARTITION_X('table2000','20090105');
    Here is the problem: noting that I have skipped the partition creation for JANUARY 02 data, I run the following to create a suitable partition
    SQL> exec CREATE_PARTITION_X('table2000','20090103');
    But I get the error:
    ORA-14080: partition cannot be split along the specified high bound
    My question is: how do I create/interpose this 'missing' partition into this table?

    In fact, more precisely than just splitting, one must split the existing partition that is chronologically greater than the one I want to insert.
    So originally I had this:
    SQL> select table_name,partition_name from user_tab_partitions WHERE table_name='TABLE2000';
    TABLE_NAME ** PARTITION_NAME
    =================================
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090102
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090104
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090105
    TABLE2000 ** PART_DEFAULT
    Then I split the partition PART_20090104 into PART_20090104 and PART_20090103 thusly:
    SQL> ALTER TABLE table2000 SPLIT PARTITION PART_20090104 AT (to_date('20090103','YYYYMMDD')) INTO (PARTITION PART_20090104, PARTITION PART_20090103);
    Table modified.
    Now I have what I want:
    SQL> select table_name,partition_name from user_tab_partitions WHERE table_name='TABLE2000';
    TABLE_NAME ** PARTITION_NAME
    ====================================
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090102
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090103
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090104
    TABLE2000 ** PART_20090105
    TABLE2000 ** PART_DEFAULT
    My one remaining question is this : is there a specific exception for this ORA-14080 so that I may react to such an error situation?

  • HOW to enable oracle advance compression for EXIST partitioned table

    Hi All,
    I have to enable oracle advance compression for existing table which PARTITION BY RANGE then SUBPARTITION BY HASH.
    ORacle version: 11.2.0.2.0
    Please provide me any relevant doc or any exp.
    Thanks in advance.

    could not see any text for how to enable oracle advance compression for EXIST partitioned table.RTFM.
    From the resource above:
    How do I compress an existing table?
    There are multiple options available to compress existing tables. For offline compression, one could use ALTER TABLE Table_Name MOVE COMPRESS statement. A compressed copy of an existing table can be created by using CREATE TABLE Table_Name COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS AS SELECT *. For online compression, Oracle’s online redefinition utility can be used. More details for online redefinition are available here.

  • Extraction of the details of all the views existing in Requisite.

    Hello Experts,
    I am using SRM4.0, Requisite Staging 4.0 and Requisit publishing 4.0.
    I want to extract the details of all the views existing in Requisite
    server from DB. is it possible?
    if i access to Requisite through internet explorer, i have to do it view by view.
    So if i have access to the database think it will go faster.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Saikrishna.

    Hello Saikrishna,
    I don't know the name of your SAP database user,
    but typically they have the prefix SAP, so I wonder
    why the SQL statement didn't return any rows.
    To see all database views, you can try this
    SQL command:
    set long 2000;
    select owner, view_name, text
    from dba_views
    order by owner, view_name;
    This list will surely be quite long, so once you have the
    name of the database user who owns the views it
    would be best to add a WHERE clause and limit the
    select  to only this user.

  • Boot camp can't view Mac partition

    Hi guys. So heres my problem. I have a late 2012 27" Imac with a 3TB fusion drive, and I have boot camp successfully installed with Windows 8 (currently).
    So my problem is when i'm booted into Windows, I cannot view my Mac partition at all. From what I understand, Apple have included HFS drivers which should enable me to at least view my Mac HDD when booted into windows, and the drivers are installed properly, however I still cannot even see my Mac HDD.
    I have searched far and wide for possible solutions or even an explination as to why this isn't working for me, with no prevail. From what I understand, I think it might be the fusion drive which is preventing the reading capability. All I know is that i've tried almost everything (MacDrive etc.) and nothing works for me, I just ultimately want to be able to access my Mac HDD when im booted into Windows.
    I have also tried on Windows 7 but I end up with the same problem.
    CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
    Thanks guys, any help will be appreciated!

    I believe that you have already answered your own question without realizing it.
    You indicated that yoru MacOS partition is on a Fusion Drive.  If that is the case, then I do not believe that it is supported by Boot Camp, and you won't be able to access it.  If you double check teh Boot Camp documentation, I believe it should clarify that.  Fusion Drives are new technology from Apple (within the last year or so) and the technology is not really available to third parties yet, so other drivers like MacDrive, or HFS+ For Windows from Paragon won't have the ability to access the Fustion Drive until they either license the technology from Apple, ot attempt to reverse engineer it for themselves...
