Viewing formulas in Numbers '08?

Does anyone know how to toggle formulas in a Numbers document on and off? Have to deliver some homework in math, and they have to have two versions of each document; one regular with the answers and one wich shows the formulas. Only problem is that I dont know have to toggle it on and off
I know in Excel in Windows its ctrl+J to toggle it, but how do you do this in Numbers?
Thanks in advance!

Just mark the cell format as "text".

Both the Numbers '09 User Guide (which covers the use of the arithmetic operators ( + - * / ) and the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide (which discusses QUOTIENT and the rest of the functions supported in Numbers and the other iWork applications) can be downloaded through the Help menu in Numbers.

  • Bulk activation of Equipment View in serial numbers

    Hi Experts,
Our client has erroneously created material-serial numbers which needs to be active the equipment view. There are around 2000+ details to be changed and a bulk change option is required to active "Equipment View".
I have tried to create a LSMW but ended unsuccessfully.
Appreciate you valuable guidance to find a solution
    Thanks In Advance

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
    I have only tried LSMW.
We have set mandatory the "Location" field for equipment. There for when i execute the LSMW, following appeared
'Formatting error in the field ITOB-STORT'
'Fill in all required entry fields'
    Thanks

  • Work around for Excel "Array Formula" in Numbers?

I have an Excel spreadsheet which I have built over many years to manage maintenance tasks of my boat. I would like to convert this to run on Numbers. Unfortunately I can't find a work-around for Excel's "Array Formulas".
The column headers of my spreadsheet contain maintenance tasks (plus data on how frequently by days or engine hours these jobs need to done). When I complete a maintenance task, I log the date and engine hours in a new row with an "x" to signify that the job is done. Excel then looks up the date/engine hours when each job was last done (ie the lowest "x") and then uses conditional formatting to highlight the column headers of which jobs are overdue. Is there a work around for this in Numbers?

It not clear from your post, but I get the impression you are inquiring about Numbers for OSX. This is the iOS iWork forum. You may want to repost here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/iwork/numbers
If I'm wrong, and you are asking about Numbers for iOS, these links may help: http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/2.2/#/tan5ca02385
    http://help.apple.com/functions/mac/5.0/
But Numbers for iOS does not fully support conditional text.

  • Formulas in Numbers 3.0.1 files not converting to Excel

When I save a Numbers file as Excel the formulas do not work in Excell, I have to export it as a iWork 09 file, open it in iWork 09 and save it as Excel. Seems crazy to release this to the public without the function working?

    Hi Badunit,
Australian (non-US) exported to Excel then reopened in Numbers 3
Rows 1,2 and 10 added (Row 2 is Table name in horizontally merged cells), but the currency and formula work .

  • Creating formulas in Numbers - quick key to reference cells

Former Excel person, moving over to Numbers -- very simple question on how I can use keystrokes to reference cells when creating a formula, rather than typing in the cell or using the mouse. In Excel would just type "=", then could use the arrows keys to move around and go into the first cell for the formula, type "+", then arrow around to the second cell and hit Enter.

As Yvan has pointed out, Numbers offers an alternative to large spreadsheets, that being multiple tables & sheets. As you point out, moving around a large spreadsheet is not fast, even when using cursor keys (which I am assuming are the same thing as arrow keys, there being just the one set on my keyboard).
Assuming you can break your large spreadsheets down into smaller ones, you may find that navigation is remarkably quick because you can click on any table in any sheet to immediately jump to another one (even when creating cell or range references) rather than having to transverse large areas of a single spreadsheet one cell at a time.
If you are interested in exploring this approach, you may find my comments in the thread Generating values for grades useful as a description of how this can be applied when creating cell references in Numbers.
It may not be the right approach for your needs, but unless you know about it, you can't compare it to other approaches, right?

  • Timesheet formulas in numbers '09 with multiple Start/Stop columns

    Hi there you amazing people
I am creating a timesheet which will have the date, start time, stop time but also 3/4 start/stop times for breaks.
I would like to have formulas that allow me to enter as many or as little info as I need (sometimes there are no breaks and sometimes there will be several) and still give me total hours works in that day.
Apoliges if my quiery isn't clear or this has been answered before, I have had a good look!

    Hi Lil,
Numbers '09 will think for you. Start with an empty table with one Header Row and enter the headings for your work day:
In Cell A2, enter the Start Time as 8 am (not 8am)
In Cell B2, enter Morning Coffee as 15 m (not 15m)
    In Cell C2, Lunch is 1 h (not 1h)
In Cell D2, Afternoon Tea is 15 m (not 15m)
In Cell E2, Stop Time is 5 pm (not 5pm)
Please note the spaces (for example, 8 am, not 8am) then the cells will automatically format as Date-and-Time or Duration.
Formula in F2 (and copy down) is
    =E2-A2-B2-C2-D2
Tip: When you enter a Time, it carries a Date with it. The Date-and-Time format in Numbers is exactly that. A Date and a Time from 1 January 1904 (the starting date that Apple uses as the base date).
Call back if this does not help.
    Regards,
    Ian

  • I am a teacher and I want a formula for Numbers that will average out A, B, C, D and E's of my students.

As the title says- I'm not much of a formula wizard and any help would be appreciated. Here's an example-
Student A receives a B, C, A, A, D, A for 6 assignments. I want them to average out at the end of the row, as well as an average on a separate page of summaries for all subjects that are assessed this way.
Ive seen it on an excel spreadsheet but was unable to look at the formula.
Please help as the semester starts in a week for us in Australia!
    Thanks

I basically want a formula where I can average Letters out to a B- or C+. Can I do this from just letters alone or do I need to assign numbers. Speaking to my curriculum coordinator, she said stick to LETTERS and see if we can sort out something for that as we don't officially report in numbers.
So that would mean I would need an average formula that would calculate B + C + C + D + A into a single Letter. I dont know if it is possible without using numbers. I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain. It's quite hard!
You say where the cutoffs are, is that A=90-100%?
Can you just use letters to make an average of the letter?
AVERAGE, which calculates the arithmetic mean of a set of values, works with numerical values.
On your posted layout, you have a table showing the letter equivalent of a percentage score:
    A score under 40 = E
    A score 40 or higher, but under 50 = D
    A score 50 or higher, but under 65 = C
    A score 56 or higher, but under 85 = B
    A score 85 or higher = A
Those numerical scores may be summed, averaged, and a letter grade assigned. With the specifications given in that table, the letter grade will not include a + or -.
Your layout includes nine numerical scores for the first student (all of which are well under 40. My assumption here is that each is the student's score out of the number in the same column of row 3 (ie, the first, 13, is 13 out of 14, the second is 10 out of 16, etc,)
    This raises a question:
Does each point noted contribute equally to the final average?
    Or
Does each quiz/exercise contribute equally to the final average?
For the letter grades to be averaged, you will need to set a specific numerical equivalent (not a range) for each letter grade.
For the letter grades and number grades to be combined into a single final letter grade, the numerical equivalents noted above must be chosen with that goal in mind, OR the numerical scores must be converted into letter grades, then reconverted into specific numerical equivalents for each letter grade, inserted into the set of (converted) letter grades, averaged, then reconverted to the equivalent letter grade.
As you can see, there are yet a few hurdles to overcome.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • How can I make the screen view larger in numbers?

I'm working a large spreadsheet and the screen shot is so small. In Excel I could always choose to view the spreadsheet at more than 100%. Can I do this somewhere in numbers? I cannot find it anywhere.

Numbers User Guide clearly explain how to do what you want but you must read it to get the info !

  • Change/View formula in the report ?

    Hi SDNer's,
Is it possible for the user to view the formula used for a calculation in the report ?
Any close workarounds? What if the user wants even to change the formula from the report ?
Please share your thoughts.....any inputs wud really help !!
    Envi - Netweaver 7.0, BEx.

    Hi Werner,
I have seen that feature and that wouldn't really help us. I was looking for a way out for the user to change the formula in the query ( w/o going to query though ), like change A0.68 to A0.75  from report itself.
    Thankyou though !!
