Viewing ipod content in itunes 7

i've upgraded to iTunes 7 but can't seem to view the songs that are currently on my ipod like i could in earlier versions. Is this possible in the newer version and if so how can i do it?

Hi,
Ah I see. I take it the album view and coverflow view buttons are greyed out yeah?, cos I haven't tried it myself.
Do you have album art for all the songs on your ipod? That is something else I've not checked for, I've no need to see the artwork. So, I also assume your ipod song list is different to the music you have in itunes, or else why would you want to view it in itunes?
I guess itunes is showing you what is on your ipod in the list only view cos that is all that your ipod supports. You ARE viewing your ipod after all, so the songs aren't essentially IN itunes.

  • Cannot figure out how to view ipod contents on itunes screen??

My kids have the nanos where I could see what had been transferred over and what wasn't. With my 5th generation, I can't figure out how to view it's contents. I get the summary screen and related screens on what to sync with the 7.0 version.

On the left-hand sidebar in iTunes you should be able to see your iPod - icon with name beside it. Underneath it, there should be listings like music, movies, T.V. shows, podcasts, audiobooks. (I guess if there's nothing on the iPod yet there may be none of that) Select one of the items and it will show you the iPods' contents of that particular thing.

  • Viewing ipod contents from itunes 7

I have itunes 7 and a video ipod. Ever since my latest update of itunes, I am unable to view my ipod songs from itunes (I can only see the summary, and different options about syncing music, videos, etc.). With the older version of itunes, when my ipod was selected, I would see a list of all my ipod music, similar to the library. Is it possible to do this with the itunes 7?

Any error messages when you sync the iPod? Do all of these tracks play okay in iTunes?
How is your iPod configured to sync music from your iTunes library?  In other words, what options and configurations do you have in place from under the iPod's Summary and Music configuration tabs?

  • Can't View IPod Library from ITunes

I have updated to ITunes 7.0 and updated my IPod, but for some reason I am not able to view the library in my IPod. The computer recognizes the IPod and will play the songs on it, I just can't view the songs to select a specific song or search through them. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I too am having the same problem. I love the new information page but I noticed that the quantity of tracks on my nano keeps shrinking and I can't see what's on the ipod from inside itunes so I can figure out what I'm actually missing. - apple really needs to create a "monitor folders for change" feature as well as an "auto-search" whith a "select folder to search for content" when a track becomes "dead". I miss Windows MP which did monitor and search for broken links between the library & the actual tracks/files... I wish I knew their support policies were worse then Microsoft before I bought this $250 money sucking device.

  • Copy IPOD Contents TO Itunes on New Computer

Is there a way of copying my ipod music to a new computer versus haveing a blank itunes that then erases the ipod contents on syncing??? Thanks

Ok, here is a little trick i learned. All you have to do is add folder (if on windows) or just files (not files on windows).
First you want to plug in your ipod while having iTunes open.
Second deny and attempt for iTunes to add the current library onto the pluged-in iPod.
Third, go to the preferences and go to advanced, and check the box that says: "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library"
Fourth: Amke sure the iPod is enabled as disk use, and then add the ipod folder, yes the whole thing to your library.
Fifth, the files hsould now appear in you library, and you can disconnect your iPod because the file were copied to you itumes Music folder.
sixth, disconnect the ipod and attempt to play the songs. If you can't retry.
Who said Apple doesn't let you take songs off the iPod.

  • Problem viewing artwork for ipod content in itunes

I would like to scroll through my ipod library the same way as the main library but the options for doing so are greyed out. There is also no artwork window and when I transfer a song from library into ipod, the artwork doesn't transfer with it. Have I disabled something?

  • CAN'T SEE MY IPODS CONTENT IN ITUNES

When I go into Itunes it show my Ipod but doesn't list whats on my Ipod. Have spent so much time on this. I was clicking and dragging songs into my Ipod but now that it's full I can't delete or add any more music because I can't see the content.

I had some funky problems with viewing my new Nano on a Vista computer. First it detected it, but didn't display it. Then it displayed it but wouldn't let me put music on it.
Although I didn't get a BSOD on my Laptop after reading the issue was related to the software that detects a plugged in Ipod I followed the instructions below. Works fine now
Followed the instructions on this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2280?locale=en_GB and it worked.

  • Copying iPod content to iTunes on a new hard drive

My Windows XP crashed and I had to reinstall a new hard drive. How do I update newly installed iTunes with all the content on my iPod?
    Thanks

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not work with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

  • Unable to browse Ipod contents in Itunes

When using Itunes 7 I was able to plug in my Ipod and browse the contents just as I could browse my main library. This isn't possible in Itunes 8, I can browse the whole contents of my ipod, but am unable to narrow what is displayed by selecting an album or artist. With an 80gb Ipod this has become quite annoying. Is there anything that can be done about it?

  • Transferring iPod content to iTunes

    Hello everyone
My hard drive broke recently causing me to lose EVERYTHING and I have reinstalled iTunes 6 but don't know how to get all of my songs and playlists copied from my iPod into iTunes.
This has happened to me once before and I nearly lost everything that was on my iPod so, as you can imagine, I am really desperate not to **** this up.
Please could someone let me know what to do.
    Thanks very much.

Okay, so what you want to do here, is connect your ipod, make sure you go into folder settings and show the hidden files and folders, and you can drag your ipod music folders (music files will have funky names like j3 etc...) over into either itunes, or your itunes music folders....
if you need further help, post back here
there's other ways, but that's the fastest and easiest

  • I can't acces my new iPod nano through iTunes..it seems to have been barred

I just installed my new iPod nano.. I already had an iPod and so I still had all my old music saved in my iTunes library.. I added that music to my new iPod. So it appears in the column alongside the 'Library', 'Store' and 'Playlists' tabs (underneath the 'Devices' tab) but it wont allow me to select any music or play music from my iPod whilst in iTunes.. It seems like its all barred.. I have no idea why.. I can still acces music from my library but I cant through my iPod.
I've downloaded the newest version of iTunes.. what other settings should I change?

If the contents of iPod Nano appeared to be "greyed out", you have the Nano set to autosync. If you wish to manage the iPod content directly, you will have to set you iPod preferences to manually manage. Manually manage will also allow you to play iPod content through iTunes.

  • How do I view the contents of my ipod on the new itunes?

I used to always drag and drop and delete manually off my ipod, but now I can't seem to find the ipod itself on itunes. I can switch between the itunes store and my library but I can't seem to view the actual ipod. Is this apple saying I need to sync to one computer? I much prefer the dragging and dropping option.

View > Show sidebar will reveal the device in the left hand column and you can drag and drop as before
