Viewing printed jsp pages

Working on an application that prints several jsp pages. I need to change the styling on the page but its hard to track the elements, and it sucks making changes and then reprinting(repeat). Is there a call I can make to print out the page. The actually page is a link element that gets printed somehow(not entirely sure). I tried something along the lines of getting the innerHtml to print to console from the actual page as well as system outs, and console.log. Nothing worked, any ideas would help

That would depend on what browser you use. In MSIE (as I recall) you would call window.print().From what I've been told by my coworkers is that a PrintPage.jsp is created that has several links related to the different pages that end up getting printed(all of them in the end) the one I need to see would be this link
<link rel="alternate" media="print" href="PrintCutsheet.jsp?designPageToPrint=<%= pNum %>&nocache=<%= System.currentTimeMillis() %>" type="text/html" class="PrintOrder" >The actual printed page is PrintCutsheet.jsp, neither PrintPage or PrintCutsheet ever actually sees screen time on the browser. Im not sure where the actual print is being called. So where would I call the window.print().
Sorry for the lack of detail. If there is something I could give you that would help let me know and Ill see what I can come up with.

    I had tried to configure the java development kit to the relevant directory in the catalina.bat file. Am I configuring in the wrong place?

    If you haven't already, you need to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
    Setting it in catalina.bat is the wrong place. In Windows XP you can set the environment variables by
    1 - right click My Computer: propreties.
    2 - Advanced Tab
    3 - Button "Environment Variables" (near the bottom)
    4 - add a System Variable: JAVA_HOME to be the place you installed java
    JAVA_HOME should point to the directory you installed java. ie NOT to the java/bin directory (one common error)

    I'm using weblogic workshop to develop page flow on Solaris, and I can't find the Design View tab to build

  • Table View in jsp page

    Hi,
    I have a jsp page which has form, few hidden fields and a table with 4 columns and rows(row size depends on the # of records in the db).
    Problem:
    As the no. of rows increase in the table I see the table moving slightly down the page creating empty blank space above it.
    I would like to know why this is happening, Is it because of the hidden fields?? and how can I avoid it...

    Hope this helps..
    Use HTML BODY tag margins as zero like:
    <body leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" topmargin="0">Your Page Content</body>
    Don't use hidden fields within <TR> or <TD>, specify them like:
    <input type="hidden" .....
    <TR>
    <input type="hidden" .....
    <TD> 123 </TD>

  • View 2 jsp page(ie) at the same time

    Hi,
    Say, I have 2 jsp files displayed in 2 separate ie screen. Say both are at the taskbar. The first page is currently shown with full screen view. When I select the 2nd page 50% screen view, I still can see the first page appearing in background. But when I click on the first page area to key in some data, the second page cannot be viewed/blocked. How do I make the second page still viewable ?
    Regards,

    There may be some Javascript that prevents people from moving the browserwindow to the background, but such things are extremely annoying and will allienate visitors from your site.

  • Print JSP/HTML Pages (perhaps PDF?)

    Hi,
    i have a table in HTML generated by JSP.
    Just like the following simple example:
    ...<table>
    <%
    for( Enumeration et = free.getSqlIDs().elements(); et.hasMoreElements();)
    String keyt = (String)et.nextElement();
    Bean b = new Bean();
    b.init(path,DB);
    b.setID(keyt);
    b.restore();
    %>
    <tr>
    <td>
    <%out.print(b.getName());%>
    </td>
    <td>
    <%out.print(b.getAdress());%>
    </td>
    </tr>
    %>
    </table>...
    No i want to give a button to the user. When pressed, the HTML-Page should transform to PDF.
    With such a method i want to print the HTML-Page.
    I Know that this is possible with the help of XML/XSP and a stylesheet. But i like to do that with this way:JavaBeans-->JSP-->HTML-->PDF
    Anyone a solution, some code examples for me?
    Or perhaps another solution to print HTML-Pages in a fine design?
    Thank you for your help

  • How can I display the date on a jsp page??

    Is there anyway to display the current date when someone views a jsp page??? Can I get it from the server or something like that?
    Thx
    Rich

    is there any type of formatting that goes witth
    that.....Most definitely -- check out the java.text.DateFormat object and its cohort java.text.SimpleDateFormat.
    For example, if you wanted to display the current date in MM/DD/YYYY format, you could do the following:
    <%-- This could go somewhere near the top of the JSP %>
    <%
    SimpleDateFormat f = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyy");
    %>
    <% And later on, you could have... %>
    <%= f.format(new Date()); %>Note that I've omitted the proper <%import%> directives.

  • Design view for jsp custom tags.

    when we drag-and-drop custom tag control in the source of jsp page, when we switch to the design view of jsp we should be able to view controls as desired.
    Observation: 1) Eclipse 3.2 doesn't have design view for jsp pages.
    2) which software uses the design view. we need to extend eclipse core framework and we do not find any technical approach document to proceed further on this.
    3) RAD 6.0 we can see a JSP in design view.
    I'm searching for any technical approach document to create plugin that can intercept the custom tags and provide a design view.
    Will any one suggest the plugin for that.

    Jeff,
    I have checked with engineering and found that JSP Design View support on
    Linux is a planned feature for the next release. I don't think we will have
    this feature as part of a Service Pack for 8.1

  • Why some coms not able to load certain JSP pages?

    Hi according to above,
    was thinking of creating jsp pages, but there seems to be occasional problems of not able to view jsp pages even though the computer has the updated JRE and has also try other browsers and had also reinstall JRE for a few times.
    Anyone know how to resolve this issue? The only method is I know is to format the computer and reinstall windows. Is this a windows issue or a jsp issue?

    i think you're confused. Applets need to have a local JRE on the client, JSP and servlets do not. All the java action in a JSP is performed on the SERVER, not the CLIENT. The server merely spits back to the client HTML (and possibly javascript) code just like any other static HTML page.
    Therefore, no web browser have ever not been able to view a JSP page. There may have been JSP pages that used JavaScript that doesn't work in all browsers, or JSP pages that returned invalid or browser specific HTML pages. But that's not JSPs fault.
    JSP --> No client JRE required.

  • Problem with running jsp pages

    Hello everybody,
    I have created a simple jsp page in JBuilder10.
    I have also installed tomcat 5.5.9
    When i run the jsp page, it appears the following error :
    LifecycleException: Protocol handler start failed: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind:8080
    What can i do in order to view my jsp page in a web browser?

    you can change the address, because the address 8080 has already been used. open the file <CATALINA_HOME>/conf/server.xml , replace all 8080 by other value, like 1234.

  • ACLs on JSP pages

    I'm trying to set up an ACL on a JSP page for the default WebLogic realm
    using a very simple example.
    I added the following lines to weblogic.properties file
    to specify an ACL on a particular JSP page.
    # ACL for JSP pages
    weblogic.allow.execute.weblogic.servlet./dummy.jsp=testuser
    However, when 'dummy.jsp' is accessed for the very first time
    since WebLogic server is brought up,
    the server just displays the page without any security check.
    'dummy.jsp' displays the current user which is retrieved by
    'Security.getCurrentUser()' method and I could find out the user is 'guest'
    when the server bypasses the security check.
    But it works just fine from the next time, that is, it does security check
    properly afterwards so that only user 'testuser' can view the JSP page.
    In other words, this problem occurrs only once while the server is running.
    The very first time the JSP page is accessed.
    I've also tried with servlets and EJBs, which didn't get me this problem.
    Actually I tested this using RDBMSRealm in the first place,
    but I went through the same problem.
    That's why I'm testing it with WLPropertyRealm now to simplify the test
    case.
    However I got stuck with the same problem again.
    Is this a WebLogic bug or am I missing something?
    Could anyone please help me out with this?
    Thanks in advance...
    Best regards,
    Sang

  • How to print new line in jsp page

    hi
    how to print new line in jsp page
    thanks

    \n - new line character is in java specific not HTML
    specific.Well, if the correct line separator sequence (by far not always \n) would be used, it does add a new line to the HTML output. Too bad that you don't want to see HTML but formatted text. The BR tag is a formatting element for the displayed text, not a line break in HTML. ;)

  • Printing list view -- only 1 page?

    I've just switched from Windows and Outlook to Mac with iCal and Entourage. When I try to print from iCal in list view so I can see all the info relating to events it won't let me print more than can fit on 1 page (I use A4), limiting me to only a few days whatever I have selected in the date range. Have I missed something or is there a way round this problem?

    Stephen Del wrote:
    When you are proofing a page, you must remember to check the page range button as it defaults to all after each page is printed. How do you change this default? We have printed many copies when we are thinking that only one page will go. We toggle between idd5 and pagemaker 7. When you print a page in pagemaker 7.0 it keeps printing that page until you select another option. We are reluctant to move up because of lack of compatability with our print devices and the ppd's. Thanks
    Perhaps some knows of a script that can do this. Have you tried asking on the InDesign scripting forum?
    Have you considered exporting to PDF, extracting the single pages, printing them from Acrobat or Reader? With full Acrobat, you can create a document from all open PDF files, then you can print that collection of pages from Acrobat. Another approach would be to placed the saved single-page PDFs into a new InDesign file and printing that file.
    Yes, it's extra steps to create one, but if you have many singles to print, collecting them in a file would let you print as many singles as are in your assembled document in one print command.
