Violation of TOS

How do you report a Terms a Service violation to apple? There is a guy who keeps advertising his product and it's getting irritating (33 posts since signed up 4 days ago)

Hi rob128,
First of all, Welcome to the  Discussion forums!
The Apple Discussion Forums are very (very) large so that is why MGW and Eric W. have asked you to post the link if possible. In other words without a link to one of the posts it is most likely compared to finding the needle in the haystack.
If you need help posting a link here the simplest way is to just copy/paste the url in the address bar when you are on the page of the topic in question. You only need to post one link to their topic/post as the host can look at all of their posts once they know the users id.
Additionally, if you click on the Help & Terms of Use link at right -> there are instructions for formatting posts if you need any other help.
but please do post the link here so the discussion's staff can investigate.
I suspect it is in one of the iPhone forums judging by your signature/specs above.

    Wes,
I have found that DNxHD is a nice option. I used the 720p 145 preset and it was about a 1min=1GB...is this normal?
I brought it into PPCC and I was able to shuttle the video beautifully without the stuttering of the navite camera AVCHD.
I would however like to keep the original frame size of 1080, I was looking through all of the DNxHD presets and there are no 1080p/59.94 presets. I tried to make a custom preset however all of the adjust parameters for the DNxHD presets are ghosted out. Are they not customizable?
I apologize if these sound like "newb" questions as I have nevered used DNxHD prior to today.
Create a new preset and choose "DNxHD MXF OP1a" from the Format popup
Then from the Resolution popup in the Video Codec section you can choose from one of the 59.94p presets. It will set the frame rate to 59.94.

  • False account violation

I was told my account is suspended and can't be reactivated but I paid for a skype premium subscription and can't use it because of this.  I ONLY use my account for personal. I have NOT violated the TOS.
Now I get several emails a day about renewing my subscription. They're annoying as all hell. Is there any way to stop them?
I tried contacting CS via the chat services several times over and was pretty much shoved aside and never contacted again. This was on August 7, 2013 and I have the chat log to prove it.

  • As a solo CC member, can I install different Creative Cloud applications on different computers?

I have a PC laptop and work desktop PC that I use for Audition to edit podcasts. I have a Mac at home that I want to use for photoshop (and also install it on my work PC, maybe). So that's 3 computers, but each Adobe application will only be on one (or 2 at most) computers. Does that align with the licensing agreement, or do I have to designate 2 computers for any and all the CC application?
    Thank you,
    Rich

You need to align up to 2 computers for all your Adobe Cloud products.  3 computers violates your TOS.

  • Can someone explain what Apple did to remedy the battery life in version 1?

My original post got deleted...i guess it violated the TOS for "ranting" and "speculation".
Yes, the 3g iPhone is an amazing piece of technology with MANY features....but I simply cannot use them and expect it to be a dependable functional telephone at the same time. For years, I have had phones that remain on standby possibly for days, make lots of calls, do lots of texting, browse the net...etc...you get the point.
I purchased the iphone for the push feature, the 3G feature, the wifi feature and the ability to use it as a telephone ......dependably. I work on-call and need to have a phone on at all times day or night. I charge my phones overnight but still have NEVER had a phone lose a charge as quickly as the iPhone does.
Apple's solution right now is to turn off all the features that make the phone so attractive in the first place.
I suspect that I am like a lot of others in that I did not buy this PHONE (yes, it is a phone after all and should have adequate battery life to serve as a phone) to selectively and actively take the time in between calling, browsing, etc. to remember to turn wifi on and off, turn my 3G network on and off and then manually push email. This kind of defeats the purpose.
Is there something Apple can do to remedy this situation via software updates or are some of has hoping for a pipe dream that simply will/cannot happen? I know with the first iPhone there were updates that dealt with battery life. Does anybody know what the formaer updates did physically? I hope something can be done with the 3g version, because right now it is not usable and may need to be returned.
Any software/hardware engineer types out there who can advise if this is indeed a fixable thing or should I return the phone? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to keep this thing, but as it is now, it is totally not usable for me.
Thanks for reading. . . .hope there is a solution!
(hope this isn't "too speculative" to be tossed again for violating the TOS)

I suspect this is your first 3G phone and if so, this is a common problem with all 3G phones and a big complaint. Other 3G phones have a swappable battery which having is a requirement. Since the iPhone does not have a swappable battery, an extra wall charger or keeping the wall charger handy is required. Or having a computer nearby with a USB port along with having a vehicle charger.
If you aren't interested in turning off available features to conserve battery when needed or wanted, and you use your iPhone regulary for web and email account access via 3G, the battery won't last the day - which is the same for any 3G smart phone. With no swappable battery, if the other alternatives are not acceptable, you should return it.

  • Did Time Machine restore, now two apps have white slash in circle over icon in dock

Yesterday morning my disk drive failed in my macbook pro, so I bought a new drive, installed it, installed 10.6 on it, then at the end of the install used my Time Machine backup (luckily it was from Sat night) to restore me on the drive.  Ran a couple of rounds of Software Update, and I seem to be pretty much back to where I was.  (Except that gmail had deleted my mail from the server!)
Now my Numbers (iWork '09) and Xcode icons in my dock have a white slash-line-in-circle over them, and they are greyed out.  Both apps still seem to work just fine, and when launched they get the white light next to them.  When Xcode launches, the icon goes back to its bright color and the white slash/circle disappears, only to return when the app is Quit.  With Numbers the icon stays in its weird state while the program runs merrily along.
Can anyone out there un-puzzle me?
(While people often write whining and/or ranting complaints about this and that piece of apple technology, which sometimes get deleted by the moderators as violating the TOS, would it be ok if I write a slobbery mash note about how I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Time Machine?  THANK YOU APPLE!  When a windoze user loses a disk, they are SCREWED.  Every PENNY that I have spent over the years paying a little more for Apple technology paid back a hundredfold yesterday!)

I installed from a 10.6.0 disk, and selected Restore from Time Machine backup at the end of the install.  Then the first thing I did was install the 10.6.8 ComboUpdate, and after rebooting then did all of the other updates that came up in Software Update.
(Oddly enough, I had the ComboUpdate dmg in my downloads directory, and when I tried to install it, the Installer failed immediately.  The one that SoftwareUpdate downloaded from Apple took a long time to download, but it worked just fine.  I used that dmg to update a couple of dozen machines back when 10.6.8 was new and had no problems.)

  • Live View Window Reading Extra 20px

Okay, I figured out what the bug is after the 13.1 update. On all of my live views on all of my projects and on both of my machines (I'm running Windows 8, btw), Dreamweaver is miscalculating the window width (or displaying the wrong window width in the corner) by 20px. So, if I have a media query that says don't break until a min-width of 801px, when I pull my Live View window out, it doesn't break until 821px.
Where is this extra 20px coming from? It can't be in my stylesheets because this is happening in multiple projects on multiple devices.
Is anyone else having this problem? If so, please respond.
Anyone at Adobe listening to this?
    Cheers,
    Jonathan

Okay. There are no errors in the code. I'm designing for a phone, so the "Preview in Browser" tool is worthless for me. I mean, I get it, because you can squish the browser down and all of that. But if I wanted to design sites that way, I'd get Notepad ++ and save myself the agony of paying thousands of dollars for the Adobe software suite.
Now, I did uninstall DW 13.1, and reinstalled at 13.0 and the issue when away. I could actually use the Live View. Then, without thinking, I installed the update--and now the issue is back.
All of that being said. I'm adding a photo of what my screen looks like and then I'm going to post ALL of the css, so there aren't any questions about what's going on. I've already gleened
As I can see: horizontal scroll bar all the time. I've checked for every discrepency I can think of in my stylesheets: width: 100%, but margins: 0 5%; Padding blow out. All of it. I can't post the CSS here because it says I'd be violating the TOS.
So, I'll post it up here: http://www.stpaulmedia.com/sample-style.css
The Wordpress install I'm working on is locally hosted, so there's no point in trying to share that.

  • WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! How am I not the account owner??

Just got off the phone with customer service rep Chris, who was extremely unhelpful and got uppity with me when I would not give my full social.
Anyway, here's what happened. I recently assumed liability for a number from another account. Somehow, after confirming everything was correct with the assume liability customer rep, the person who's account I was assuming the liabilty of became the owner of my account. Huh?
So I get my bill in the mail and there is another persons name in the mailing address. So I promptly get on the phone with Chris, who after asking for the last 4 digits of my social and discussing the account issue with me puts me on hold. After coming back, he informs me he will need my entire social security number to continue. I tell him I am not comfortable with that and he proceeds to tell me that he will no longer be able to discuss the account with me because I am not the owner.
Well, this just enrages me. Somehow a minute before we were discussing the account, but after Chris does some digging he realizes he is not talking with the "owner", he changes his tune. So I then basically tell them they are in error and need to fix it. Chris continues to tell me since I am not the owner of the account he can no longer talk to me. So I then say, if I am not the owner, than I am not responsible to pay and will no longer be doing so. He then puts me on hold and comes back a few minutes later and tells me he fixed it with Credit Department and Fraud Pervention. I ask him how that was possible since I never gave my social and he has no answer for me. I then tell him I would like to speak to a manager and he says I cannot, but someone will call me back with 48 hrs.
So somehow without my permission, verizon changed my account. This violates their side of the terms of service or agreement(whatever).  So I ask any verizon employees here and the community at large, what? how? why? Verizon needs to make this right. In their mission statement about customer service they say they are committed to providing the best customer service. What happened to me here is a direct contridiction to that and it is ridiculous that I even had to deal with it.
In the future if Verizon decides to change the owner of my account again, what am I supposed to do when the next boneheaded CS rep tells me I am not the owner? How do these CS reps have access to do these kinds of things without my permission? Why am I still with this company if they will violate their ToS, but somehow will still charge me if I don't want to have an account with them anymore? And how about the other party involved, that unbeknownst to them, they somehow became an account owner of an account they have no knowledge of. How do these things even happen?!
Verizon you messed up big time and I have all the docs and call logs I need to prove it.
I wonder what will happen first, that call from a manager within 48 hrs, or some rep responding here trying to tell me I did something wrong.

ok... call them again, be nice and see if they can confirm any of the information the other rep gave you. It is entirely possible (and seems quite likely) that the other rep was just making stuff up due to being confused and feeling out of their depth. So call in again, see explain the situation and see what the next rep can do for you, if they seem a bit too confused then ask to speak to a supervisor and they should be able to get you connected while you're still on the phone (you may have to hold until one is available).

    Hi!
Can i delete some apple apps from my iPhone? (health, passbook, podcasts and others)
    if I can't do this - why? I don't need it!

Yes, I have been posting my suggestions to that feedback URL, but they never listen, and I never get any reply nor acknowledgement. And I don't even know whether they have seen my suggestions since there is no acknowledgement of receipt.
There will be NO acknowledgement of receipt, but they will read ALL suggestions.  Feedback was the cause of certain "rollbacks" between iOS 8 and 8.1. So obviously they are listening. The question is whether your concerns/suggestions are shared by both other users and/or Apple. If there is no "critical mass" Apple will probably not implement the "suggestions".
Posting suggestions here is a waste of time and violates the TOS.
And, no, I have no connections to Apple. What makes you think I do?

  • You have included content in your post that is not permitted.

I posted a question in the discussion and replied the response "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." I re-read my post. There was no swear word, no questions about doing anything illegal or violation any TOS, and no link that could cause a problem. So I started editing my post and I found the guilty word: "Streaming" and "Live" together (let's see if it goes through in this post).
My suggestion is, instead of giving a broad statement, to actually list the words that are not permitted. This will save us time trying to figure out what offended the automated censor.

Yep. That's the way of the world.
I still think the filters could be more friendly. Taking, for example, the user's posting history into account.
I would agree, but Jive, the software that these forums run on, may not allow that sort of flexibility. Or Apple Legal may not allow that sort of flexibility.

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 'Tiger' to Leopard

Hi, I have a mac running on 10.4.11 and someone bought my daughter 'iLife 09' as a Christmas Present but we cannot install it unless we have Leopard Software. Is there anyway to 'upgrade' to Leopard without having to go out and buy a whole new Snow Leopard Software package. I took the iLife 09 back to the apple store to get a refund - because I thought I might as well just buy the new Snow Leopard as it is included in this - but as it had been opened (my daughter tried to install it) they would not give a refund. So if I can upgrade at a relatively low cost to Leopard, then I can install iLife so it won't have gone to waste. Can anyone advise? Apple told me to ring one of the London stores and ask for the 'Archive' department, but I'm sure I read somewhere that it is possible to upgrade online. Look forward to hearing from .... someone ... ?! Thanks. Shona

    Kappy wrote:
Alternatively you can purchase the Apple Boxed Set at $169 USD that contains iLife, iWork, Leopard, and Snow Leopard.
AFAICT, the boxed set doesn't contain a separate Leopard installer, only Snow Leopard, which may not work on the iMac in question. Apple's phone sales is the only Apple outlet for the retail Leopard installer—$129 USD.
    mstetz wrote:
It's too bad that it would violate Apples TOS if you bought the US$30 Snow Leopard upgrade intended for Leopard users and installed it over Tiger.
    That's not true. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2304131

Verizon blocks port 25 for residential outbound connections. All mail must go through their servers. So SMPT straight to the web is not going to work. You may be able to set ther server up as a forwarder. Depending on what your site is trying to do, you may be able to use CDO_SYS. But Verizon has becone very restrictive regarding scripting and what can be don wit a residential account.
I have used this script as part of a program that reads text reports that are dumped to a file through a scheduler. Uses someone elses server. Verizon's. Why are you running sendmail on a residential connections. Sendmail is a SMPT server application which violates the TOS.

I have a doubt, can we make iPhone apps with flash CS5?

yes, you can but you can't use apples app store for your app without violating their tos.

  • Constructive Criticism: iTunes Updates Apps to Incompatible Versions

I'm a big fan of my iOS devices, from my family's 3 iPhones to our now-antique iPad 1.  I've done what I consider to be a great job juggling the multiple ids and accounts necessary to function well in the iTunes, Primary iCloud (for family Find iPhone), Secondary iCloud (for backups), iMessage, Facetime, and Gamecenter architecture, mainly by following the instructions here.
I think it's a little overcomplicated, but it works, so I'm happy.
I'm less happy with how purchased apps occasionally disappear from the cloud once they are no longer sold, but I keep a local copy of all app purchases in my iTunes folder so that little annoyance has only come back to bite me once, and Apple compensated me for my $0.99 loss with a $1.29 song.  I even back up my local iTunes folder to network-attached storage every few weeks to make doubly sure that I don't lose anything.  I would argue that it costs Apple nothing to maintain Cloud copies of cancelled apps for paying customers, but there's probably some sort of arrangement with app providers that prevents that.
I'm responsible for backing up my data, though, so I'm okay with that.
What I'm not okay with is that iTunes recently, at some point, updated a couple of apps to versions that no longer run on my iPad 1.  Since I infrequently plug my iPad into my desktop, I didn't notice this until a few months later, after those updated versions had propagated onto my backups.  Now I'm in the odd situation of having an unbackupable copy of an app on my iPad.  Perhaps there's a way of extracting it via some method which would violate the TOS.  Perhaps (as some droll commenter will surely point out) I shouldn't bank on Apple supporting obsolete hardware and I should just go out and buy a new iPad.
But Apple is surely aware that there are millions of folks out there with iPad 1s who are already in the unfortunate position of not being able to upgrade to iOS 6.  By overwriting my perfectly good local copy of an app with an "updated" one that no longer runs on my hardware, I now longer have a local backup of my own data that runs on my present hardware.  Provided my iPad never needs to be wiped and refreshed, that's not a problem, but should that happen, I'll lose my app for good with no recourse.  Perhaps this is the price we pay for playing in the iOS architecture, where websites like oldversions are useless when new versions of software cripple old functionality, but it shouldn't have to be this way.
Anyway, as long as there are multiple devices out there running apps purchased in the App Store, for apps which are still currently available, I think it would behoove Apple to keep available at least the latest version that runs on each platform, to keep this sort of issue from disappointing customers.  At the minimum, a flag in iTunes to prevent the download of software which will no longer run on owned hardware should be implemented.
    Thanks for reading,
    -S

Bear in mind that Apple is not in charge of what a developer decided to include in the store, or what versions they choose to continue to support or drop.  If a developer decides they are only going to support their iOS 6 release, and drop support for their older releases, it is not up to Apple to tell them otherwise.
Many developers are either small companies, or one many shops and they have neither the time, resources nor inclination to maintain multiple versions of their software.
But as far as Apple goes, they are just the storefront, they do not control what the product developers (who own the app code), choose to support or not support.
i use an app for exchange mail, Mail+, that in a recent update, did announce that this would be the last update including support for iOS 5 or older.  It was nice of them to specifically mention that in the release notes, although (like your clicking on "update all") I doubt many even noticed it.  And they are fully within their rights to drop older iOS support and focus their business on developing for the latest iOS version only (and Apple has no rights whatsoever to tell them or force them to do anything otherwise).

  • Encrypted disk image sometimes mounts without password

I have an encrypted sparsebundle disk image containing sensitive information.  On occasion (maybe one time out of ten), I'm able to mount it without being prompted for the password.
The password for the image is not stored in my keychain.  Can anyone offer advice on this issue?

I was having exactly this same problem!
I keep a small encrypted disk image storing sensitive banking information. I do NOT have the option to store passwords in Keychain checked, and I verified that the password is not being stored in Keychain.
Yet, when I double-clicked the supposedly encrypted sparsebundle disk image, it opened right up and mounted - no password required! Unbelievable, right? So I started to investigate.
I first noticed this behaviour in Mountain Lion, I'm running 10.8.4 on a 2.7 GHz 15" MBPr.
In past versions of OS X I would mount the volume to work on it by double-clicking on the disk image, enter my passowrd, and then Eject the volume either by dragging to the trash or clicking the Eject button on the Sidebar. The next time I would try to access the disk image by double-clicking it, it would again prompt for a password. All good.
What seems to be happening in ML is, using the same workflow, even though the volume is disappearing from Finder, the disk image is not actually being unmounted!
When I go to Disk Utility, the disk image is still mounted, but the volume is grayed out. When I Eject the disk image in Disk Utility, it then reverts to the expected bahaviour, and double-clicking on the disk prompts for a password.
So the workaround seems to be when finished working on the volume, go to Disk Utility and manually Eject the disk image (as opposed to just the volume it mounts) to ensure it has unmounted and is thus again encrypted. The reason for it sometimes requiring a password, sometimes not is probably because after a restart of the computer it would unmount all disks, and then be unable to re-mount it until the password is entered. But in between, unless you were aware of this behaviour anyone with access to the disk image can view its contents.
What a terrible security flaw IMO, as there is no visual indication in Finder that the disk image is still unprotected after you unmount its volume and that icon disappears! I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention.
