Virtual ESA c100v on VMware cloud deployment

Hello,
I am testing a c100v virtual ESA appliance with the latest image from the Cisco site on a cloud VMWare virtual environment. I have it configured with 2 vCPU's, 6GB RAM, 200GB HD, and 1 nic.
I initially setup the image on my internal testing ESXi server. This worked just fine. I had 3 nics configured in VMware but only 1 configured in the VM.
I shutdown the VM, removed the nics, exported the OVA and imported it into this cloud environment. The cloud environment offers just a single nic to a VM.
I logged onto the console access and changed the interface config for the management interface to have the new IP/Subnet/GW.
Performing a netstat on all interfaces just shows:
Name MTU Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Idrop Ibytes
0pkts 0errs 0byts Coll Drop
I attempted to start a packet capture on all interfaces. It returned the following:
"Failed to start packet capture: Interface Error".
This occurs no matter which interface I select.
If I attempt to run a "version" it throws several errors and ends in:
"ValueError: interface not found"
Any thoughts on what to check next or how to check?

Well, we finally figured it out. (Thank you to a few people on #cisco on Freenode IRC for pointing me in the right direction)
The cloud VM provider only creates vmnetx3 nics by default. We had to request e1000 nics be assigned to the VM. Once they changed the config and powered up the VM the c100v saw the network correctly and routes traffic correctly now too. I was also able to test this on my test ESXi server. The virtual ESA VM's only accept e1000 nics, not vmnetx3.
kstieers1 - We are able to have the c100v work correctly with just a single nic. As long as I don't attempt to configure the other 2 nics via the CLI or web then I should be just fine. Yes, it is an unsupported config. I'm thinking we'll go down to the c000v image later in testing as that has fewer nics.

If you are running a Cloud Deployment in which you deployed own image you could obviously, prior to uploading the image to Azure, make the necessary changes within the image to allow those to reflect to new users as part of the default profile. If you want
to allow users to specify their own regional settings you could publish the Control Panel for them as follows
For example here the Control Panel Regional Settings applet running as a Azure RemoteApp.

Virtual ESA appliance update and upgrade using static method

What are the static servers for updates and upgrading if you are using a virtual appliance ?
I know that the if you use a standard appliance they are:
downloads-static.ironport.com: 208.90.58.105 on port 80
update-manifests.ironport.com: 208.90.58.5 on port 443
updates-static.ironport.com: 208.90.58.25 on port 80
But I see that my virtual appliance is trying to go to "update-manifests.sco.cisco.com" - are there other differences for the virtual appliance ?

Yes, I can confirm through my own experiences over the past week that the Virtual Appliances do not use the same update servers.
Virtual Appliances point to dynamichost update-manifests.sco.cisco.com - 208.90.58.6. I'm not sure about the static update IPs, as the static sub domains do not seem to exist on the sco.cisco.com and it looks like Cisco is using Akamai CDN to distribute updates over port 80. You may need to allow iyour Virtual ESAs out on port 80 any, and 443 seems to be a single host.

This is how we resolved it. Used a 32GB Flash Drive formatted the drive HFS+ and then copied the PKG folder and files and then brought them to the target Mac and copied the files over and ran the PKG and Exceptions install. Everything seems to be installing fine now.

Creative Cloud Deployment of Presenter 9 throws fatal error

When I attempt to install Presenter 9 from a deployment I built using the Creative Cloud packager 1.4 the install fails with MSI error 1603. I see no errors in the build log but if I do a manual install from the media everything goes fine. It is as if the MSI comes out currpt. I have tried this from multiple build PCs and on multiple test PCs. I am banging my head against a wall trying to figure this out. Any help with the proper proceedure would be a great help. Build log is below:

I'm having the same issue here with Presenter 9. CCP packages the installer, install runs, exits about 30% through with an error code of 1603.
I can install it just fine unpackaged, but this doesn't help me with my need for an unattended installation.

Jabber 9.0.2 cloud deployment and Auto-Start options

We're getting ready to roll out Jabber 9.0.2 to about 2,000 users in a Cloud scenario (WebEx Connect + SAML). We have our software deployment package set and tested, but we are unable to programatically tick the 'Automatically start Cisco Jabber when my computer starts' check box. Since we're not running anything on-prem, I don't think we can do anything with a jabber-config.xml, can we?

In the 9.1 release of Jabber for Windows, there will be an option to configure it via jabber-config.xml file but that will still require the manual start of client atleast once. So the only seemless option is to add it to the 'Run' registry folder as Aaron mentioned in the above post.
Selecting/unselecting the option "Automatically start Cisco Jabber when my computer starts" in Jabber options creates/deletes a system registry in Run folder:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
Key Name = Cisco Jabber
Key Type = String
ValueData = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Cisco Jabber\CiscoJabber.exe"

Finding and removing unused replica virtual machines in the VMware Horizon

and I was trying this command : SviConfig.exe -operation=FindUnusedReplica -DsnName=ComposerDB -Username=sa -Password=secret -Move=true
but I dont know right password of DSN, how can I get ? or is it another tutorial how to remove unused replica virtual machine ?

Hi,
So what you are trying to do is drill into the Composer Database and find un-used replicas? Do you not know the DSN credentials when you set up the ODBC connection? Was it not documented?
If not, then I do not know if there is a way to crowbar that password information out. Do you have access to the SQL database via Management studio? There are possibly a few options:
1) You could create a NEW user who has permissions on the composer DB and create a NEW ODBC DSN and use this user and password to access the database from the same server using the sviconfig. You are just providing another way of access the same database really without interupting the existing composer connection.
2) You could try resetting the password on the account (and update the ODBC connection on the composer server) - I'd stop the composer service first and then edit ODBC and then resume composer and check everything works!
3) Try and find the information of your account (who set it up?) as this would be the best way moving forward.
My preferred options would be to try 3, 1 and finally 2. I'd always recommend testing things like this in a development environment first so you can really understand the impact/consequence to what you are doing.

Our deployment environment is Websphere 3.5 on Win NT 4.0.
To solve this problem , I need to create a virtual host that will avoid conflicts.
Do I need to changes the DNS settings.

Upgrading ESA C100V appliance

Hi,
We are trying to uprade our ESA to build 106.
And we still get the following error:
The following errors occurred during upgrade:
Download error: http://updates.ironport.com/asyncos/phoebe-8-5-6-106/hints/default/1
Upgrade exited without success.
Please attempt the upgrade again after clearing the error.
I have cleared the error for several times, but it still exists.
In the log directory i saw the following error:
DownloadError url=http://updates.ironport.com/asyncos/phoebe-8-5-6-106/hints/default/1 reason=>
But there was no reason mentioned.
I checked the DNS and everything seems to be allright.
How can i solve this issue?

Do you have a proxy in place? Is appliance in cluster with hardware appliances?
Also - can you assure that you are pointing to update-manifest.sco.cisco.com:443 for your updateconfig settings?

Ironport Cloud Deployment Model

I am offering email security as a service to one of my client, they have their Exchange server hosted somewhere and they want me to secure their emails. I have one Ironport running in my Datacenter for internal use but i wanted to use it as service, can someone help me how can i proceed?

#1) "Cloud" = ROS/Hosted. The Hosted environment operates on a maintenance schedule based on the customers on the platforms they provide. So - they try to provide 99.999% uptime. The frequency to the AsyncOS revisions varies. Upgrades are scheduled and performed according to Cisco’s upgrade schedule. You would be best suited to open a ROS/Hosted case to best answer the question:

#2) More than likely no. If you are relying on the Hosted OS revisoin, this may not be addressed until the are ready to roll forward the OS revisions to 8.X. If you had a specific defect ID - you can look it up in our bug search:

But - again - keep in mind that the releases and targeted fixes do not apply directly to Hosted customers.

Virtual WLC on VMWare vCloud - No Operating System Found

Trying to install/deploy a virtual WLC image (7.6) on a VMWare virtual Cloud Domain (VCD) environment.
The OVF deployment runs just fine, but as soon I am booting up the image, VMWARE is stating "No Operating System found".
What am I doing wrong?

Fixed this one.
In VMWARE Cloud Directory you do not have access to the directory structure.
In a "normal" VMWARE environment the OVA file is correctly deployed including mounting a bootable ISO as CDROM disk. This does not happen in VCD.
To fix this, you must manually upload the ISO and mount it to the VM in VCD.
The ISO can only be recovered from a regular VMWARE OVA deployment.

Differences between VMware virtual switches and HyperV virtual switches

I've deployed an OpenVpn infrastructure (configured in bridging mode) within a VMmare ESX4 environment.
The scenario is this:
A remote client connects to the OpenVpn server (VM1), VM1 also owns an interface where traffic passes in tagged mode complaint to vlan 8021q, VM2 owns a interface on the vlan10. VM1 can ping VM2 without any problem (supposing vlan 10 traffic), but the remote
client cannot ping VM2.
The scenario works perfectly in a physical environment (without any virtual machine).
The scenario is like this:
Analizing traffic with Wireshark on the VM2 I've noticed that an ARP request leaves from the remote client MAC to the destination host interface of VM2 (broadcast ARP request).
The host VM2 sends an ARP reply directly to the MAC address of the remote client.
This last packet doesn't pass the vSwitch, so it isn't received by the remote client and the ping fails.
This occurs because the VMware ESX vSwitch only knows all the MACs of virtual machines within the ESX environment, it doesn't learn MAC addresses like a physical real switch and it discards packets sent to unknown unicast MAC addresses (broadcast traffic instead
is passed). Within the VMware infrastructure this is solvable only by using of the Promiscuos mode feature of the virtual switch port.
I would like to ask if HyperV virtual switches work like VMware ESX virtual switches. So in Hyper-V virtual switches do learn mac addresses actually like a physical switch?

Thank you; I did the same in Wireshark and noticed the ARP reply was not being received by my VMware guest Hyper-V host, so I did an Internet search and found this document at the top of the list. For other people that came here because their VMware guest
Hyper-V lab server's SCVMM 2012 SP1 logical switch virtual network adapter combination could not ping other VMware guests; In addition to "Accept" for your VMware vSwitch (described above), you will need to change your VM Network VLAN ID to "All".
