Virtual Machine getting networking to work...

If there is already a wiki entry or forum post on this that I missed, please just post me the link and I'll close the thread.
Using VMware workstation 6.5 I installed arch linux.  This is my ifconfig eth0 output:
inet addr: 192.168.0.2 Bcast: 192.168.0.255 Mask 255.255.255.0
Everything is currently on defaults... Not sure why a ping won't resolve any hosts.
Any ideas?... Thanks in advance.

What is the default networking method under VMWare?  I.e., are you using bridged networking, host only networking, or NAT?
Unless you have a special need for another method, you should probably use NAT.  It's by far the easiest and quickest way to give your guest networking capabilities.

  • Hyper v manager: "virtual machine connection has stopped working", when connect to VM

    Hello,
    cannot find any info on web and View problem details in VIRTUAL MACHINE CONNECTION error box:
    "virtual machine connection has stopped working".
    I get this error when click Connect in HV Manager. The machines are on and are accessible through RDP.
    This is a lab host after restart it randomly works. I have this problem during last week.
    Just interesting to know what could cause the problem and if other were seeing something like that...
    Also, can connect to machine from SCVMM.
    Thx.

    I have the exact same issue (running windows 2008 R2 Enterprise). I can RDP to any of the VM but simply cannot connect using console.  This is causing me grief since I have to create few more VMs and work with the existing VMs.  Without console
    access, I cannot create and do any config changes for new VMs.  Can someone help. Things that I have tried so far.
    1. Exported VMs
    2 uninstalled .NET 4 & 3.5.
    3. Hyper-v role removed.
    4. Reinstalled Hyper-v, reinstalled .NET 4 & 3.5, patch current as of today.
    5. Imported the VMs back and still cannot connect.  Exactly same error.  No errors in any logs in event viewer or Hyper-v logs.
    6.  Navigated to c:\Program Files\Hyper-v and manually run the VMCONNECT.EXE app (choosing the localhost/server and appropriate VM from the list) but no dice. The app just sits there for ever without any connection.
    7.  I am baffled and surprised no one has a solution.  Tried multiple search engines.
    8. The host machine is patch current as of today and there are no patches available to try.  Reading through some forums, I have also installed some hotfixes with no luck.
    9. Finally, I can see the little graphic for each VM changing as windows is loading or stopping in server manager for hyper-v.
    Hoping someone has a solution.  The error that pops up is exactly similar and no clues of the faulting module.

    Hi in my device manager the Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter ? the Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter has a yellow !
    Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi
       Firsly try to run Windows updates and see if it can be detected by Windows update and install apprpriate driver ..
       Secondly if that did not work try to RIGHT click the  Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter and click update driver and choose let Windows look for driver .
                  Post me your findings

  • Tried both ways in the Wiki, still can't get network printing work

    Hi,
    I have tried both the client and server ways following the Wiki, still could not get network printing work.
    For the first way, I tried to put either the host name or the ip address (starting with 192) of the remote printer into /etc/cups/client.conf. But both Okular and Evince failed to see the printer in the dialog.
    For the second way, with cups-browsed running, it only managed to discover printers in my local network (ip starting with 137) which I have no access. I tried to manually add the printer using its ip, but it still did not work.
    What can I do? I have spent hours trying to work it out but failed. I would appreciate a lot your help. Thanks.

    Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"? Ones with a green checkmark are solved.

  • [SOLVED] Can't get network to work (realtek NIC)

    Hi there!
    I found Arch a couple of weeks ago and I got pretty excited with the possibility of taking my old Athlon 750MHz out of inactivity.
    Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the network to work.
    * I installed the system using Archlinux-i686-2007.08-2.core.iso
    * I have a little router and the machine has static IP

    The kernel module for
    Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
    is 8139too I think
    So /etc/rc.conf should be like this
    # HARDWARE
    # Scan hardware and load required modules at bootup
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    # Module Blacklist - modules in this list will never be loaded by udev
    MOD_BLACKLIST=()
    # Modules to load at boot-up (in this order)
    # - prefix a module with a ! to blacklist it
    MODULES=( 8139too forcedeth sk98lin slhc ac97_bus snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-seq-oss snd-seq-device snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-hwdep snd-$
    # Scan for LVM volume groups at startup, required if you use LVM
    USELVM="no"
    The first one is 8139too, so it will be eth0
    In my example the second one is forcedeth for nvidia ethernet controler, so its going to be eth1
    Don't forget to edit /etc/resolv.conf

  • Cannot get network to work properly on fresh install

    I just got myself a new lenovo laptop and naturally wanted to instakll arch on it immediately.
    The network I am on requires me to register the MAC address of the machine before I can access anything more than our intranet. Since this is done via a website, that is obviously difficult to do with arch, so I ran a mandriva livecd first to register it.
    Quirk number one: I set up a new partition table and installed arch with grub. somehow one of these things actually changed my MAC address because I needed to reregister it and I could tell there it was a new one registered.
    However, booting into arch again and I still can't get it to work properly. pinging our intranet address works fine, but I can't get to the www and so cannot install any new packages.
    I've installed mandriva on a separate partition and here it all works fine. So the problem seems to be with Arch. My uneducated guess is that it somehow registers as having a different MAC address in arch, which of course creates a bit of a catch-22 because I can't install the packages needed to go to our intranet website and fix it (I should note - once I re-registered my mac address after creating a new partition table, I could complete a net-install of arch. but no internet access having booted into it).
    Anyone know how I can fix this?

    tuxce wrote:actually, mac address doesn't change from one distribution to another
    but you can check your mac address by using "ifconfig"
    also verify if dns (/etc/resolv.conf) and route are well defined
    resolv.conf has
    # Generated by dhcpcd for interface eth0
    search rhk.dk
    nameserver 172.20.0.42
    nameserver 195.184.96.2
    rhk.dk is our intranet. I don't know if those numbers mean anything's out of place.

  • OS X 10.5.3 update... Does Time Machine over network still work

    Anyone updated to the new 10.5.3 and know if Time Machine still works over the network via AEBS?

    I was hoping 10.5.3 would fix things for time machine/time capsule, I had issues with it hijacking my laptop and the network doing fsck_hfs. So I looked forward to fixes, had been doing only back up now, since having to reset everything. I tried it, it took an our to get past preparing, then had 15 meg out of 2 gig backing up, stuck there for hours. I finally killed it by dismounting the disk. When my disappointment reduces I may try a fresh start. I am sure they worked very had on it.

  • Help! Can't get network to work

    I have Solaris 10 installed and running smoothly.. except I can NOT get my NIC card working. I swear it's harder to configure networking on Solaris than anything i've ever delt with. I have a 3COM 3C450 PCI NIC card, how do I know if Solaris has the drivers for this card installed, how do I install them, and how do I configure my IP address? I'm definetly not a Unix newbe, I've worked with Irix and AIX for many years, but this is extremely frustrating.
    Thanks

    Hello
    First step:
    Check if the driver is running correctly. Type in "<b>/usr/sbin/prtconf</b>" or "<b>/usr/sbin/prtconf -v</b>".
    This command prints information about all devices in the system and if the device is recognized by a driver or not (a message "Driver not attached" is shown if not). The "-v" variant shows more detailed information (you will get a huge number of lines).
    Second step:
    Find out the name of the network card (example: /dev/hme0). Unlike Linux the ethernet cards do not all have the name /dev/eth* but different types of cards have different names (/dev/le*, /dev/ce*, /dev/hme*, ...).
    Third step:
    Test the card once:
    Type
    <b>ifconfig <i>name</i> plumb</b>
    <i>name</i> is the name of the network card without "/dev/"; example:
    <b>ifconfig hme0 plumb</b>
    The card is recognized as network card by the system. Then type:
    <b>ifconfig <i>name</i> <i>IP_address</i> up</b>
    Example:
    <b>ifconfig hme0 12.34.56.78 up</b>
    The card is assigned an IP address and started.
    Fourth step:
    Installing the card in the configuration files:
    Add an IP address - host name pair for your computer in the /etc/hosts file.
    Then type
    <b>echo <i>my_host_name</i> > /etc/hostname.<i>cardname</i></b>
    Example:
    <b>echo mycomputer > /etc/hostname.hme0</b>
    Then reboot the computer.
    Using DHCP is a bit more complex.

  • Mint 17 with 2 virtual machines losing network connectivity

    For one, I am the only person in our 5 person IT group that likes to use Linux. I am still learning though. I have been using Linux at home for only about a year. So please bear with me, as I'm possibly about to give too much info.
    The computer is used for our night dispatcher to watch the security cameras. The security software we use is Geovision and on the dispatchers end it is DM Multiview. We have two servers that have the Geovision software, for two different locations. SO in order to view the two different servers, we have to have two machines with multiview. Also Geovision apparently does not like linux and it does not work in Wine either.
    The computer only has 4 gigs of ram in it so i thought i would solve this by using a linux host and two virtual xp machines. (i know i shouldn't be using xp but i dont have a lot of choice)...

  • Server 2012 cluster - virtual machine live migration does not work

    Hi,
    We have a hyper-v cluster with two nodes running Windows Server 2012. All the configurations are identical.
    When I try to make a Live migration from one node to the other I get an error message saying:
    Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XXXXXX' failed.
    I get no other error messages, not even in event viewer. This same happens with all of our virtual machines.
    A normal Quick migration works just fine for all of the virtual machines, so network configuration should not be an issue.
    The above error message does not provide much information.

    Hi,
    Please check whether your configuration meet live migration requirement:
    Two (or more) servers running Hyper-V that:
    Support hardware virtualization.
    Yes they support virtualization.
    Are using processors from the same manufacturer (for example, all AMD or all Intel).
    Both Servers are identical and brand new Fujitsu-Siemens RX300S7 with the same kind of processor (Xeon E5-2620).
    Belong to either the same Active Directory domain, or to domains that trust each other.
    Both nodes are in the same domain.
    Virtual machines must be configured to use virtual hard disks or virtual Fibre Channel disks (no physical disks).
    All of the vitual machines have virtual hard disks.
    Use of a private network is recommended for live migration network traffic.
    Have tried this, but does not help.
    Requirements for live migration in a cluster:
    Windows Failover Clustering is enabled and configured.
    Yes
    Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) storage in the cluster is enabled.
    Yes
    Requirements for live migration using shared storage:
    All files that comprise a virtual machine (for example, virtual hard disks, snapshots, and configuration) are stored on an SMB share. They are all on the same CSV
    Permissions on the SMB share have been configured to grant access to the computer accounts of all servers running Hyper-V.
    Requirements for live migration with no shared infrastructure:
    No extra requirements exist.
    Also please refer to this article to check whether you have finished all preparation works for live migration:

    I installed Hyper-V before adding the HP network drivers (there's a known problem if you install Hyper-V after adding the network drivers), so that's not it.
    This happens both with straight network adapters, and also when two are configured as a network team - no difference.
    I don't want to use the Legacy network adapter as the performance is terrible, but right now I have no choice as otherwise I can't get network or internet access from the guest.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Please refer to the following post to see whether you can resolve the issue.
    Network Adapter (not Legacy) does not work on Virtual Machine after installation through ISO

  • Install R12 on a Virtual Machine hosted on Windows Vista

    I wanted to install Oracle EBS R12.1.1 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit but used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error. Hussein Sawwan
    helped and said that this is not certified. He adviced me to create a VMWare Server. Following is my experience. I hope it is helpful. Any
    suggestions, additions are more than welcome. Thanks to all who helpmed me especially Hussein Sawwan, Helios, Gareth Roberts.
    I used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error after the installation would zoom through 33%. That was because my staging area was not correct. The staging area should be just next to c:\ or whatever be the root directory (or drive). No space or special characters in folder name. My current structure is as follows:
    c:\r12stage. Under r12stage I have following folders and subfolders
    oraAppDB -- 49 Disks
    oraApps -- 11 Disks
    oraAS -- 3 Disks (This comes from the Rapid Install Tools)
    oraDB -- 5 Disks
    startCD -- 1 Disk plus other folders. Just copy startcd from the unzipped download and paste to r12stage area.
    I then created a virtual machine using VMWare Server (free download but need to register to get the serial number). Because I installed
    vmware server on Vista Home Premium 64 bit Host OS, I have to boot my machine by pressing F8 and then select Disable Digital Signature
    Enformcement. Thanks to Gareth Roberts for this tip. Create a vm and install Windows 2003 by selecting the .img file (first cd) by selecting Use ISO image and then path of the windows 2003 cd 1 (zipped file). start the virtual machine, that will install windows 2003 and then ask for location of 2nd cd. On the host machine, where the second win 2003 zip file resides, unzip the second zip file and name the folder as cd2. share this folder to the __vmware_user__ and from the virtual machine, map network drive to \\hostmachinename\cd2. Select this as the location of cd2 and complete the installation. Install MKS Toolkit from http://cygwin.com/ and visual c++ from Microsoft website. for information on this please refer to the following URL. Thanks to Muhammad Habib
    http://mhabib.wordpress.com/2007/03/14/installing-oracle-applications-e-bussiness-11i-on-windows-xp/
    After installation is done and Windows Update is run, share the r12stage directory on the host machine to the vmuser and launch rapidwiz.cmd from the command prompt and follow the instruction. For internet connection from the VM use Ethernet as NAT.
    If the installation errors halfway through, clean up your VM by following instructions in document id 292424.1 in MetaLink. If you dont have access to Metalink then I summarize the steps briefly over here.
    Launch the Registry Editor.
    Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key.
    Select the Apache Group subkey and delete it.
    Select the Oracle subkey and delete it.
    Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current Control Set\Services.
    Carefully select and delete each service beginning with Oracle. For example, delete "Oracle Apache Server PROD_<nodename>".
    When you are finished, exit the Registry Editor.
    Navigate to the Environment Variables editing screen according to your system setup. For example, right-click My Computer and select
    Properties. From the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
    Select the following system variables if created during the failed installation, and delete them: DISCO_JRE, DISCO_VBROKER, JSERV,
    VBROKER_JAVAVM, VBROKER_TAG, WV_GATEWAY.
    Select the Path variable, but do not delete it. Carefully edit it and remove any component with "Oracle" in the name, or that otherwise
    references the failed install. For example, delete "E:\11.5.10\test\visora\8.0.6\bin;".
    Save and exit System Properties.
    Open a command window and navigate to the C:\Program Files\ directory. Delete the Oracle subdirectory.
    If your Oracle Inventory directory was not C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory and was therefore not deleted in the previous step, locate it
    and delete it.
    Restart your machine
    It is now safe to remove the Oracle filesystem that was partially installed during the failed installation. Go to the base install directory,
    or top-level directory under which you installed either the Database Server (DATA, DB) or the Applications Tier Server (APPL, ORA, COMN)
    directories, or both. Note that you may choose to rename a directory before you delete it. This allows you to use the same directory name and start a new installation even before you finish the delete filesystem operation. For example, if you placed your filesystem in a "test" directory under
    "E:\11.5.10":
    C:\> E:
    E:\> cd 11.5.10
    E:\> rename test oldtest
    E:\> del /s /q oldtest
    In another window:
    C:\> cd <stage install directory>
    Q:\> rapidwiz.cmd
    After cleaning up if you still get error like RW-50004: Error Code received when running external process. Check log file for
    details. Running database Install driver for VIS instance, after 13% complte step 1 of 5 then I suggest that you re-create the machine and follow the above steps again. Including installing win 2003, mks tool kit , vc++, etc. It will be a success.
    Starting concurrent manager takes up enormous memory and slows down everything, so if you dont need it then dont ever start it. APPS password is apps and sysadmin user is sysadmin.
    Good luck.

    I had Vista 64-bit machine, installed Ubuntu in VMWare. Installed Oracle apps on 32-bit Ubuntu under VMware and was able to access Oracle apps. But, it is very very slow. It hangs sometimes and takes 15-20mins to display Ubuntu screens. Am I missing something here. I have a 4GB RAM and VMWare can not use all the 4GB. It may be using 2GB of 4GB. Am I missing something?

  • Our HDB tool  just stopped connecting to the Azure virtual machine

    Our HDB tool just stopped connecting to the Azure virtual machine while it is working fine on AWS. The error we are getting is:
    "HDB -system state cannot be determined. Database connection is not available."
    Any suggestions/comments from the community?
    Thank you
    Koushik

    Update as promised.
    I just went ahead and created a new VM.  All is good!!!!
    Server 2012 (Datacenter)
    Downloaded and installed SQL Server 2012 Standard (Basic install only need the DB engine)
    Configured for mixed mode, etc.  (I did not need to change anything after the install was done)
    Opened endpoints and VM firewall ports
    Tested and worked as expected
    Then went ahead and installed IIS, Web Deploy and updates.
    All is working as expected.  Not sure what I messed up the first go around.
    If anyone comes across this and the docs don't help, just try to set up a new VM (either SQL or Server and install SQL).

  • I can't get ParameterSets to work

    I'm new to PowerShell, and I'm having trouble with parameter sets. I've created a function that will retrieve memory info from a computer. I have the function working properly, except for the parameters sets. Here's the syntax I want to support:
    #Run without parameters for memory usage on localhost:
    Get-MemoryUsage
    #Get memory usage on remote system:
    Get-MemoryUsage [-ComputerName] <String>
    #Examples:
    # Get-MemoryUsage -ComputerName mydc01
    # Get-MemoryUsage mydc01
    # "mydc01", "mydc02" | Get-MemoryUsage
    #Get memory usage on remote system running on Hyper-V host, where "name" is the name of the virtual machine in Hyper-V manager:
    Get-MemoryUsage [-ComputerName] <String> [-HostName] <String> [-Name] <String>
    #Examples:
    # Get-MemoryUsage -ComputerName mydc01 -HostName hvsvr -Name TheDC
    # Get-MemoryUsage mydc01 hvsvr TheDC
    #Get memory usage on remote system running on Hyper-V host, where "ID" is the GUID of the virtual machine:
    Get-MemoryUsage [-ComputerName] <String> [-HostName] <String> [-ID] <GUID>
    #Examples:
    # Get-MemoryUsage -ComputerName mydc01 -HostName hvsvr -ID 837b8cbc-b89c-4070-bf65-4b674bb380e4
    # Get-MemoryUsage mydc01 hvsvr [GUID]837b8cbc-b89c-4070-bf65-4b674bb380e4
    #Lastly, I want to be able to pipeline in a [Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VirtualMachine] object like so:
    Get-VM -ComputerName hvsvr -Name TheDC | Get-MemoryUsage -Computername mydc01
    $vm = Get-VM -Name TheDC ; Get-MemoryUsage mydc01 $vm
    To summarize syntax:
    You must always specify the computer name, unless you want to target the local computer
    If targeting a Hyper-V virtual machine, you must also specify one of the following:
    1. The Hyper-V server and virtual machine name
    2. The Hyper-V server and virtual machine GUID
    3. A [Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VirtualMachine] object
    Here's the function declaration:
    function Get-MemoryUsage {
    [CmdletBinding()]
    param (
    [Parameter(Position=0, ValueFromPipeline=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="notVM", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name')]
    [Parameter(Position=0, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byName", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine')]
    [Parameter(Position=0, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byID", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine')]
    [Parameter(Position=0, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byObj", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine')]
    [Alias('GuestName','GuestComputerName')] [String[]] $ComputerName=$env:COMPUTERNAME,
    [Parameter(Position=1, Mandatory=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byName", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the Hyper-V host')]
    [Parameter(Position=1, Mandatory=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byID", HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the Hyper-V host')]
    [Alias('host','server')] [String[]] $HostName,
    [Parameter(Position=1, Mandatory=$true, ValueFromPipeline=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byObj")]
    [Alias('VirtualMachine')] [Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VirtualMachine[]] $VM,
    [Parameter(Position=2, Mandatory=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byName", HelpMessage='Enter the name of the virtual machine in Hyper-V')]
    [Alias('VirtualMachineName','Guest')][String[]] $Name,
    [Parameter(Position=2, Mandatory=$true, ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true, ParameterSetName="byID", HelpMessage='Enter the GUID of the virtual machine')]
    [Alias('VirtualMachineId','vmid')][GUID[]] $ID
    process {
    Write-Host $PsCmdlet.ParameterSetName
    It seems to work as expected except for this example (sometimes the user will pipe in both Name and Id, and I cannot stop them):
    New-Object –Typename PSObject –Prop @{'HostName'="hvsvr";'GuestComputerName'="mydc01";'VirtualMachineId'=[GUID]"837b8cbc-b89c-4070-bf65-4b674bb380e4";'VirtualMachineName'="TheDC"} | Get-MemoryUsage
    #Error:
    Get-MemoryUsage : Parameter set cannot be resolved using the specified named parameters.
    At line:1 char:200
    + ... TheDC} | Get-MemoryUsage
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (@{VirtualMachin...m3 server 2012}:PSObject) [Get-MemoryUsage], ParameterBindingException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : AmbiguousParameterSet,Get-MemoryUsage
    #If I remove either the 'VirtualMachineName' or 'VirtualMachineId' property, it works. Or if I remove the [GUID] cast, it works.
    How can I fix this?
    This whole declaration seems sloppy to me.  Is there a better way?  Suggestions are welcome.
    -Tony

    Take a real close look at what you have posted:
    function Get-MemoryUsage {
    Param (
    [Parameter(
    Position=0,
    ValueFromPipeline=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="notVM",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name'
    [Parameter(Position=0,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byName",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine'
    [Parameter(Position=0,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byID",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine'
    [Parameter(
    Position=0,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byObj",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the guest virtual machine'
    [Alias('GuestName','GuestComputerName')][String[]]$ComputerName=$env:COMPUTERNAME,
    [Parameter(Position=1, Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byName",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the Hyper-V host'
    [Parameter(Position=1,
    Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byID",
    HelpMessage='Enter the computer name of the Hyper-V host'
    [Alias('host','server')][String[]] $HostName,
    [Parameter(
    Position=1,
    Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeline=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byObj"
    [Alias('VirtualMachine')][Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VirtualMachine[]]$VM,
    [Parameter(
    Position=2,
    Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byName",
    HelpMessage='Enter the name of the virtual machine in Hyper-V'
    [Alias('VirtualMachineName','Guest')][String[]] $Name,
    [Parameter(Position=2,
    Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byID",
    HelpMessage='Enter the GUID of the virtual machine'
    [Alias('VirtualMachineId','vmid')][GUID[]] $ID
    process {
    Write-Host $PsCmdlet.ParameterSetName
    It makes no sense.  YOu need to figure out why you have so many 'Parameter' statements.
    When laying out parameters use this method as it iseasier to spot errors:
    The order also helps to avoid errors and make incremental design easier:
    [Alias('VirtualMachine')]
    [Alias('VMach')]
    [ .... validation rules ...]
    [Parameter(
    Position=1,
    Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeline=$true,
    ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName=$true,
    ParameterSetName="byObj"
    )][Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VirtualMachine[]]$VM,
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
