Virtual Machines lose access to network

We have continual problems with losing network connectivity to the virtual machines hosted on a Hyper-V host (the host is running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2), it goes down 2 – 3 times per week.
Situation:
All 3 Windows 2008 R2 virtual machines on the host lose connectivity to the outside world at the same random time (they are the only 3 on the host).
When this occurs the host can still ping the 3 virtual machines and the host is reachable.
When this occurs the 3 virtual machines can ping the host and each other, but nothing else outside of the host (request timed out followed by destination host unreachable)
Nothing in the hardware or Windows event logs on the host indicates there is a problem. No indications of issues in the VM event logs either.
Restarting the virtual machines does not fix the issue
Brand new HP hardware, Broadcom nic drivers were upated early on
VMQ is disabled on the VM's
We are not using nic teaming or clustering
Restarting the host temporarily resolves the problem (during the restart the vms are just placed in a saved state).
The host is running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2
The switch ports that the 2 network cables are plugged into (1 for RDP access to host and 1 for the VM traffic) show no errors on the switch.
This sounds like an issue with the Virtual switch but I can't find anything in the logs that gives me a hint.

Thank you for this post.  I have had similar issues with the following configuration
5 Node Fail Over Cluster - 5 HP DL580-G7 Servers
Two NIC Teams Configured
4 1 GBPS NIC's - Two Native to the integrated 4 Port on the mother board and Two in an expansion card
- The Integrated NICS are HP NC 375 I (Two ports are 1 GPBS and Two are 10 GBPS)
- The expansion NICS are HP 332T adapters
All four of the 1 GBPS NICS are teamed - this is the team the Virtual Switch for all the VM's is using
Both of the 10 GBPS NICS are teamed
The Load Balancing for both teams is set to switch independent and dynamic
Only two of the hosts are experiencing issues with the Guest VM's losing connection
The OS is Server 2012R2 Data Center Full Install
All recommended hot fixes and updates for a fail over cluster have been applied
All HP Firmware Updates have been applied (Current Through June 2014)
Setting the VMQ to disabled appears to have resolved this issue for me, I will continue to monitor until I am comfortable moving production Guests back to the affected Hyper-V Hosts.
I noted while attempting to set the VMQ to disable that only the 332T Adapters were set to true in the first place

    1. Yes. You can install Windows 7 natively using Boot Camp Assistant or you can install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox
    2. If installed using Boot Camp Assistant Windows 7 uses all your computer's resources just as OSx does. If installed using a VM Windows 7 will share the computer's resources with OSx.
    3. A Boot Camp partition is separate from the OSx partition. The VMs allow sharing of files across partitions since both OS are running at the same time.
    4. No, not 100%.
    5. Too broad a question. Be specific about what feature you are asking about or search the Internet for comparisons. I use both and find they both work well.

  • BadRequest: Virtual machines with secondary network interfaces and virtual machines with no secondary network

I'm trying to create an "ExtraLarge" VM with multiple NICs.  The New-AzureVM returns the following error:
BadRequest: Virtual machines with secondary network interfaces and virtual machines with no secondary network
interfaces are not supported in the same deployment, also a virtual machine having no secondary network interfaces
cannot be updated to have secondary network interfaces and vice-versa.
But I have no other VMs.  Or at least I did and then deleted them and all their disks.  The service has no deployments (either staging or production).
Why is New-AzureVM complaining about a mismatch of VMs with and without secondary network interfaces when no other VMs exist?
I have tried many things to fix this, including the deletion of ALL of my resources.  I have deleted and created the service many times, both with an affinity group and without.  I have a screen print of the -debug output if your interested.
    Thanks for the outstanding help.

  • Enable Virtual Machine to Access Internet with ICS

In order to experience Hyper-V, you may choose to use Hyper-V on a laptop, and it will likely come with an issue when you create an external virtual switch bounding to a wireless NIC due to
    hardware compatibility.
For this reason and requirement, Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) may help us. ICS makes use of network address translation (NAT) mapping individual IP address of local computer (virtual machine)
to unused port number in the TCP/IP stack of ICS host computer. For more information about ICS, please refer to the article here.
    Internet Connection Sharing (From Wikipedia)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Connection_Sharing
To achieve this in the Hyper-V environment, please follow the steps below:
    Demo configurations:
    Hyper-V Host: Windows Server 2012 R2
IP address of the Wireless NIC: 192.168.0.100/24
    Virtual Machine (Windows Server 2012 R2): 192.168.1.100/24
    1. Create the Internal Virtual Switch (Figure 1).
Figure 1: Create the Internal Virtual Switch
    2. Connect your virtual machine to the new virtual switch (Figure 2).
Figure 2: Assign the Internal Virtual Switch to the VM
    3. Find the wireless NIC with internet access then share it with the Internal Virtual Switch (Figure 3).
Figure 3: Share the wireless NIC
    4. Change the IP address of the Virtual Switch and assign the IP address as the Default Gateway for the Virtual Machine (Figure 4).
    Figure 4. IP configurations
After that, your virtual machine can have the Internet access (Figure 5).
    Figure 5: Access the Internet
Note: ICS provides the DHCP service by default. After sharing wireless NIC, the Virtual Switch will get an IP address automatically (192.168.137.1). If DHCP is enabled in your VM, it will get
an IP address within the same subnet from ICS host computer, also the Gateway and DNS.

While this was a requirement with earlier versions of HYPER-V there is only one scenario where this would be required, and that is when your VMs MUST share the same IP address as the management OS.
That is the only scenario where 'sharing' of a connection would be required.
Since Client Hyper-V has been introduced with Windows 8 / Server 2012, wireless NICs have been supported.

  • HT201358 How to use MAC as Virtual machine to access parallelly

I'm planning to buy MAC, How can I use it as a virtual machine for three users parallely with different user name and password.

    http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/Mac-Screen-Sharing.htm
OS X 10.8 allows users to connect to individual screen sharing sessions. You will need a VNC application for your Windows system.
Since this is not a question about Apple Remote Desktop, which is an application from Apple for managing networked Macs, should you have further questions I'd suggest you ask in the OS X 10.8 forum.

  • Oracle VM Manager 3.0 - Virtual Machine Console Access

Does anybody else out there seem to have problems launching the console to get into a VM Guest? When we do, we get the login screen and then nothing. It doesn't appear to be firewall related. We had similiar issues in 2.2.
    Any tricks on this?

We had similiar issues in 2.2.There is no direct VNC access between your client and the Oracle VM Servers any more. Ensure you have port 15901 open from the client desktop to the Oracle VM Manager machine and that you have all the VNC ports open from Oracle VM Manager to the Oracle VM Servers. We now proxy VNC via the Manager for improved security and simpler configurations.
Also, you will still need to install the tightvnc-java RPM separately, as described in the documentation, to ensure the Java VNC console is installed. This needs to be installed on your Oracle VM Manager server.

  • Disconnecting WEB SSL VPN client windows 7 to remote windows 7 virtual machine

    Good morning,
my problem, common to other colleagues who use Windows machines 7 Professional is this:
I connect to WEB SSL VPN Cisco from Client Windows 7 Home Premium Explorer-9 to a virtual machine Windows 7 Professional using a specific professional audience and vpn user. I access the Terminal Services window (attached JPG) with a list of links to virtual machines.I connect to the virtual machine in Remote Desktop Full Screen mode and log in with the same user and password. For the connection is installed an add-type control ActiveX CISCO Portforwarder Control version 3.1.0.1, file name -> cscopf.ocx.
Problem: The session window once inside the virtual machine disappears and disconnect from the virtual machine back in the window of choice of Terminal services available. This always happens and there is no way to maintain a stable connection. With modality not FULL SCREEN, the session window would seem to remain stable but however is impossible to work in a small window.
This problem is raised after the update windows 7 to SP1 both Home premium and Professional. In fact before the update the connection is stable. The update to SP1 update the RDP client microsoft to version 6.1.7601.17154 from version 6.1.7600 but i do not know if this the cause of the problem.
Have you an update of CISCO active-x to fix the problem? I cancelled the file and download the last version but the problem remains.
Workaround: Use local virtual machine with xp or windos 2003 and access form this operating system but I consider absurd to use a local
virtual machine to access a service which should be directed
Note: This problem does not occur if the VPN session to the virtual machine Windows 7 is launched from a host machine running Vista Home Premium with RDP Client 6.0. My previous PC had this OS and I was working in an absolutely stable by performing the same type of connection.
Host Operating System: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS virtual machine accessed via ssl web vpn: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Can you help?Thank you.
    Carmelo Orlando
    No

The same problem here as well.
I am using a Win7 PC to connect to an Win Vista PC via SSLVPN. Once i logged into the remote PC, the session is disconnected.
Do we have any corrections from Cisco for the moment?

  • No pdf printer in mac - so No pdf printer available in 'virtual machine' on the mac-any suggestions?

I am running Mac OS X version 10.6.2 and I installed CS4 on the laptop.  I have Acrobat 9 Pro - and no pdf 'printer' due to Mac's new operating system.  Unfortunately, I also have a virtual machine on my laptop running Windows XP (with VMWare Fusion).  I need the 'pdf printer' in my virtual machine to create pdf's from my Windows programs.   When I bought the Mac version of CS4 (including Acrobat) I didn't know the 'printer' wasn't included and I can't see buying another Acrobat for Windows....does anyone have any suggestions for installing the pdf printer so my virtual machine has access to the printer?

Hey, guys! be careful, there's a sneaky catch with this "no-pdf-printer" thing.
The warning, concerns mostly the pros (publishers, editors, typographers....) who are used in CMYK chromatic gamut.
The catch is this: you get a CMYK archive, all right, but the color tone IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the one you were used to get with the old good method. That's because, when you choose the "save as adobe pdf" option, initially you get an RGB CONVENTIONAL arch (check the "colors" tag: there 's no CONVENTIONAL CMYK option available). Of course, if you choose to Distill it so that your final arch is a PDF CMYK, what you finally get IS a CMYK archive, BUT: THE COLOR TONE IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT! The Reds are pretty much down, and there's a green-ish cast upon it.
What you can do (and this could be an answer to the dear friend with the difficult onscreen name) is this:
You can install a virtual PPD PRINTER (an LPD). If you Google "virtual ppd printer for OS 10.6" you get the directions, DIRECTLY from Adobe (anyhow, the link is http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404931.html).
And... VOI LA! You can use this (choosing as a PPD Device the "GENERAL IMAGESETTER") in order to make things the good old way (print it as a PS and after DISTILL it enjoyably!!!).
I wonder, why Apple want to make our lives difficult, pretending the same moment that it only makes them easier...
Well, it's pretty much understandable: SNOW LEOPARD is the "prova generalle" before LION is unleashed. They test us, they weigh us, they are watching our reactions, thus validating for FREE their products. They are clever! but being clever just by considering the others (and treat them) as if they were fools, IS NOT HONEST AT ALL!
    Got it Stevie?

  • E61i: Is there a JAVA Virtual Machine

    Hi there
i need the JAVA Virtual Machine to access and use a web site. it seems that this runtime enviro does not exist for the symbian os ... is it true?
it seems that i wasted resources on this machine. it seems that pot holes exist for mobile transactions on smartphones.
    kg

J2ME is the Java version designed to run on Mobile phones. If you're trying to run an applet that was designed for the J2SE ("Standard Edition")--it will not run on mobile phones.
OK, despite what all the "E90 is not a communicator" folks out there want, all Symbian-based devices (including the E61i) are CELLPHONES FIRST. If someone looking for something that gives them all the power of their laptop, they're looking in the wrong place. Especially for us Symbian people, it's likely the best that we'll ever do is the J2ME version.
Of course J2ME is very powerful in its own right... but Java applications have got to be specifically written for it.
If that's not good enough, you might want to look at the more powerful of the Windows Mobile devices. They too have J2ME, but people have ported J2SE to it such as the Mysaifu JVM (http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~dat/java/project/jvm/index_en.html). Of course, this is "hackware" and you'll probably run into lots of oversights and incompatibilities with a typical J2SE app anyway... but it's about the only way in the near future where you can even hope to get a full J2SE JVM working in a pocket-sized device; Also remember that the power comes at a price: typical Windows Mobile PDAs that have the power to run a full J2SE rarely has the battery life necessary for a true road warrior.
    Cheers.

  • No external network access from virtual machine

    Hello:
I'm configuring a Windows Server 2012 Standard with Hyper-V and want to share a network card so that both the virtual machine and the host access a LAN using the same wire.
    HOST SYSTEM:
    OS: Windows Server 2012 Standard
    IP: 192.168.50.1
    VIRTUAL MACHINE: Windows XP
    IP: 192.168.50.4
    PHYSICAL SWITCH (CISCO):
    IP: 192.168.50.6
I've configured an external virtual switch, assigned to it a physical card and activated the sharing between host and virtual machine.
    With this configuration:
ping from HOST to VM and viceversa: OK
ping from HOST to REAL SWITCH: OK
ping from VM to REAL SWITCH: FAIL
If I configure the network card to work exclusively with the VM, it can access the external switch from the VM, but I lose any connection with the host.
I could solve the problem installing another physical card and using one for the host and one for the VM, but I can't get both working with the same card, even though they are in the same subnet, see each other, share files between VM and host... I'm not
trying to connect to the internet.
    Any idea? Thanks.

    Hello again,
    Sorry for the delay.
After system update, the problem has not been solved. The external switches do not limit the number of MACs, so this is not the problem either.
After updating the system I deleted the virtual switch and created it again. I also rebooted the VM and even the server. It just doesn't share the access: only the VM or the server can access to the net at the same time, even if both see each other all the
    time (server and VM).
Apart from that, every time I delete the virtual switch and create a new one, I reconfigure the VM as well (I delete the network card at the VM and create it again). When I do that I have to assign an IP address to the network card in the VM (no DHCP
installed, so this is normal), but I can use the same IP I was using before deleting the virtual switch. When I do so, a message appears saying the IP is used in a virtual network adapter, but this is hidden because it is not in use anymore. I haven't found
a way to see and delete these hidden network adapters either.
I think I'll install VMWare, because Hyper-V is more a problem than a solution.

  • WIN2008R2: No external network access from Hyper-V guest using Virtual Machine Bus - Legacy ok

    Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 Hyper-V host
HP DL370 G6, HP NC375i integrated Quad Port Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter
Static IP (.11), internet connection via a Cisco switch and PIX firewall
External virtual network connected to port 1, allowing management OS to share the network adapter
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 guest
Static IP (.21) on the same subnet, same subnet mask and default gateway (.1) as host
    * with Virtual Machine Bus network adapter:
     - host can ping guest (.21), switch (.5), and has internet access
     - guest can ping host (.11), but cannot ping switch (.5) and has no internet access.
     - network map shows the guest and host connected via a hub (Microsoft virtual switch), connected to a gateway, then a red X between gateway and internet
    * with Legacy network adapter:
     - host can ping guest (.21), switch (.5), and has internet access
     - guest can ping host (.11), switch (.5) and has internet access.
     - network map shows the guest and host connected via a hub (Microsoft virtual switch), connected to a gateway, and no red X between gateway and internet
I installed Hyper-V before adding the HP network drivers (there's a known problem if you install Hyper-V after adding the network drivers), so that's not it.
This happens both with straight network adapters, and also when two are configured as a network team - no difference.
I don't want to use the Legacy network adapter as the performance is terrible, but right now I have no choice as otherwise I can't get network or internet access from the guest.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Please refer to the following post to see whether you can resolve the issue.
Network Adapter (not Legacy) does not work on Virtual Machine after installation through ISO

By the way, did you only encounter this issue with one VM or all VMs? Please do the same test on VMs with other version of Windows such as Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003.

  • Hyper V virtual machine randomly loses network connectivity

I have an extremely odd issue happening on one of my Hyper-V virtual machines.  For no apparent reason and completely sporadically my virtual machine will lose all network connectivity.  It is a linux Vyatta firewall image.  Digging through
the logs shows nothing at all when the machine actually goes offline, but when the machine starts back up I just get a Warning stating the network driver on my virtual machine loaded but has a different version from the server.  Server Version 3.2 Client
    version 0.2
I've ran the integrated services setup disk and nothing has fixed this.  When the VM loses connectivity it is for no apparent reason, sometimes at 1am sometimes at noon, just happens.  The only solution is to reboot the VM to bring it back online.
Has anyone else seen this or know of a fix for it?  Its starting to slowly drive me insane!
    Hyper V Server - Windows Server 2008 R2 - Hyper V Manager Version 6.1.7601.17514
VM - Linux Vyatta Core 6.3

I tried downloading new integrated services disk setup for linux, but Vyatta wouldn't work with it so I was kind of stuck there.  And not sure where you are talking about changing NIC to legacy at.  I did disable some TCP chimpney settings as
per an article I found, but not sure if it will fix it or not.  Sometimes the machine will stay on for a month before losing network connection and sometimes it comes in spurts and happens like 3-4 times over a couple days.  Its really odd

  • SQL Azure with Azure Virtual Machine inside Virtual Network - How to connect

    Hi Team,
I have one typical scenario where there is one Windows Application I wan to run from my Windows Azure Virtual Machine which is inside Azure Virtual Network (which has its DNS and ADFS and etc..)
Because its Virtual Network, We can't access internet within that network, apparently Virtual Machine can't access SQL Azure. So, How would we resolve this scenario.
Application is running great from my local system so, its accessing SQL Azure Database from my system. So, Application or SQL Azure or connection or such areas has no issue.

To obtain a public Azure-provided DNS server IP addresss, you can run "ipconfig/all" in another Azure VM which is not a virtual network which has DNS server defined. After you add a DNS server in the virtual network that VM belongs to, please restart
the VM to update the change.
However, since you mentioned that you are using a customed domain, I am not quite sure if any other configuration should be done for your domain.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Networking arch linux virtual machine networking

For a project, I've got an arch linux virtual machine running on the school network. The image has SSH installed and that works just fine, the problem is that the network admin didn't give it access to the internet (so I can access it only over lan). What I would like to do is run updates on it and install several libraries that I need for deploying a web application (rails). The easy way to install them is obviously through pacman, which leads me to my question: Is there a way to make a network interface on the server that would use ssh to make a bridged connection to the internet?
Not super sure if I worded that correctly, but it seems that it ought to be possible to have a network interface on the vm that, when the vm opens an ssh connection to some ssh server (on the lan) allows the vm to use that connection for more than just ssh.
    Thanks.

I was making this too complicated... I set up a squid proxy on a different machine and it all works well.
