Virtualbox bridging problem

I post this a second time, this time more precisely
Op. System is: Archlinux 64bits
uname -a:
Linux archie 2.6.31-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 10 19:01:40 CET 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
so
I've installed virtualbox_bin 3.1.0-1 from AUR (the only way possible on a 64 bits opsys, besides the install stuff from Sun)
Followed the installation given on the Arch Wiki
I've tried all three methods ( vbox way, arch way, general ) to get bridged networking to work
( I'm a lazy guy, I prefer the Vbox way, all my modules are loaded)
All my VMs are running fine with NAT, everything works,
but bridging produces a strange error:
Clients get network adresses via DHCP,
even fixed IP settings work,
I can ping ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING
but no internet connection!
I have observed the (physical) network card with Iptraf of the HOST machine, the result is strange:
ICMP packets go through but no TCP/IP communication is possible between my hosts and the exterior world
AH, I forgot the most interesting one, I've an archlinux VM too, HE IS WORKING FINE, EVEN IN BRIDGED MODE!!!!
Is that a bridging problem?
Is that a kernel problem? ( Vbox worked well with the latest kernel - 2.6,30 -, if I remember well...)
What the hell is going on there?
( I really need bridged network, as I use Vbox essentially for network testing purposes)
Please, help!

After three weeks of research I have found lots of people having trouble with Virtualbox bridged and host-only networks
the (partial ) solution is to change the virtual network card, for me Intel Desktop M worked fine with my Debian guest
but Ubuntu doesn't want to do anything with it
for some people it works, for others it forks for a while, for others it doesn't work at all...
Buggy stuff

  • Virtualbox bridged networking problem

    Hi out there.
    I'm trying to set up VirtualBox bridged networking as described in the wiki by "the arch way"
    Here are the relevant details of my config files:
    /etc/conf.d/bridges:
    bridge_br0="eth0"
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
    /etc/vbox/interfaces:
    vbox0 nofoo br0
    (Where nofoo is supposed to be the user running virtualbox)
    And finally...
    /etc/rc.conf:
    MODULES=(e1000e snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-intel soundcore bridge vboxdrv vboxnet)
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="eth0 up"
    br0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 br0)
    So. I added the user to the vboxusers group.
    After a reboot, myifconfig says:

    My settings in VirtualBox itself are the following:
    adapted to:host interface

    The start and stop program parameters are left empty.
    Now, when i try to start my vm, the following error message occurs:

    Yeah, I have this same issue. I installed virtualbox-ose using pacman and also don't have /etc/rc.d/vboxnet. I've searched the entire machine and it is nowhere to be found. Did you solve it? Anyone got any ideas?

    Are you trying to say that pointing to your computer in Bridge you get an error message telling you that you need to purge the central Cache?
    If so, go ahead and purge it.
    Your post is not clear at all.  Try rephrasing it, please.
    Also:
    A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.

  • Beans - Active-x Bridge - Problems!

    Hi,
    I developed an ip address bean based on JTextField (JDK 1.3.1_02), successfully packaged it as an active-x control using the packager and instructions in the active-x bridge tutorial.
    The control has all sorts of problems under visual basic: to name a few:
    1. The caret seems to disappear when the control receives focus
    2. The tooltips dont seem to show up.
    3. The focus lost event does not seem to fire in the control.
    Is it worth for me to trace these issues or is the activex bridge not really practically used by anybody ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vishy

    Vishy,
    Did you by any change find a solution to your ActiveX Bridge problem, I'm stuck with the same shit..
    Thanks,
    Harvey
    P.S. Maybe nobody works with this technology except maybe none-visual components?

  • (SOLVED) Virtualbox bridged network, windows host, arch guest

    I am trying to get my archlinux guest's network working again. It was working before I bridged the connection and changed the adaptor to the bridged one, but I want a bridged connection for certain reasons, so I want it working. This is the result I get when I use sudo dchcpcd eth0:
    dhcpcd: version 5.0.7 starting
    dhcpcd: eth0: rebinding lease of 10.0.2.15
    dhcpcd: eth0: broadcasting for a lease
    dhcpcd: eth0: offered 192.168.0.199 from 192.168.0.1
    dhcpcd: eth0: acknowledged 192.168.0.199 from 192.168.0.1
    dhcpcd: eth0: checking for 192.168.0.199
    dhcpcd: eth0: hardware address 00:le:8c:85:a6:4d claims 192.168.0.199
    dhcpcd: eth0: send_raw_packet: Bad file descriptor
    dhcpcd: eth0: rebinding lease of 10.0.2.15
    dhcocd: timed out
    I have no clue why it's not working, but I am sort of new to linux and virtual machines. Still, can anyone help me get the bridged connection working?
    EDIT: Nevermind, I fixed it.

    All I did was unbridge my windows network. You only select the bridged network from virtualbox, don't manually bridge your network!
    If you windows network is not bridged with your vm's host only network in the windows networking page, then I dunno what your problem is.

  • S/A bridge problem: No object type found for the message

    Hi all,
    I've been spending days looking into the following problem. I have a RFCXIFile scenario. The R3 system sends data via an RFC to XI and XI post the data as a flat file on a certain server using FTP.
    This scenario worked just fine for 1 exception. I could only run this scenario once. The second time I got timeouts when checking the data sent to my RFC destination using SM58. When I reactivated my RFC communcation channel I could again send 1 RFC to the system. All subsequent tries would fail.
    I guess this is due to the fact that I use a synchonous call (RFC) to an asynchronous one. Thus the adapter is still waiting for the response from the XI system and will not accept any further new calls from R3.
    So I figure let's use this pattern called the S/A bridge. So I designed everything according to guides and examples and I'm quite certain everything is configured right but when I run the scenario I get the following message:
    <i> <!--  Call Adapter
      -->
    - <SAP:Error xmlns:SAP="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Message/30" xmlns:SOAP="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" SOAP:mustUnderstand="">
      <SAP:Category>XIAdapter</SAP:Category>
      <SAP:Code area="BPE_ADAPTER">UNKNOWN_MESSAGE</SAP:Code>
      <SAP:P1 />
      <SAP:P2 />
      <SAP:P3 />
      <SAP:P4 />
      <SAP:AdditionalText />
      <SAP:ApplicationFaultMessage namespace="" />
      <SAP:Stack>No object type found for the message. Check that the corresponding process is activated</SAP:Stack>
      <SAP:Retry>M</SAP:Retry>
      </SAP:Error></i>
    It seems that the adapter cannot find any integration process to send the message into!?
    I've looked at numerous threads on sdn and tried all kinds of stuff (looked at the cache==> code 0 = OK , tried to reactivate my integration process, checked the interface determination,...), but to no avail. Does anybody has an idea what could be wrong ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated for I'm all out of clues....
    Bob

    First of all, Thank you for trying to help me out here.
    Some answer to your suggestions/questions:
    The IP has return code 0 in SXI_CACHE. so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
    I've checked the BPM for syntax errors. I doesn't have any.
    I've reimported the BPM into the integration directory.
    And did a full cache refresh in SXI_CACHE. Return code is (stays) zero, so that's OK.
    I've already included the error message from SXI_MONI. It is in the last step ("Call Adater") that the error occurs.
    The other steps execute just fine...
    The RFC communcation channel accepts the incoming RFC call and puts into the pipeline, so no problems with the communication channel either. the problem is actually when the pipeline is trying to forward the message into an IP trhough the BPE_ADAPTER (according to SXMB_MONI).
    Therefore I'm not able to go to into PE, because the workflow is never started. the BPE_ADAPTER does not find any active process for the interface determination i've entered.
    So i can not debug the IP in the PE and check container variables, like some of you mentioned.
    Maybe some more information about the scenario:
    The RFC is called from an R3 system to XI over the interface "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD", which is an imported RFC, with a request and response message type.
    Then I got a receiver and interface determination with lead the incoming RFC message to the IP, into interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI".
    This is an abstract synchronous interface based on the request and response types of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD" imported RFC.
    This interface is used the first step (receive) of my BPM as the synchronous interface to open the S/A bridge.
    The message (container var)  used in this step is
    name: CORREQ
    Category: Abstract interface
    type: "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI"
    The interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI" is an abstract, asynchronous interface based on the request type of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD".
    Then there are 2 send steps for putting the flat files into place and finally i close the the S/A bridge using message:
    name: CORRES
    Category: Abstract interface
    type: "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_RES_AI_MI"
    The interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_RES_AI_MI" is an abstract, asynchronous interface based on the response type of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD".
    I hope this information gives you guys a better understanding of hte problem.
    Really looking forward to see more suggestions and to solve this nasty problem ...
    Regards,
    Bob

  • [SOLVED]VirtualBox Bridged mode not working

    For some reason I am unable to start a virtual machine in host-only or bridged mode.  I can do NAT mode but that doesn't really suit what I want to do very well.  Here is the message I get when trying bridged mode.
    Failed to start the virtual machine Windows XP.
    Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older verison of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root
    (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    I can't run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv because it doesn't exist.  I installed Vbox via Pacman and I'm embarassed to admit I don't really know where it is.  I just launch it by right clicking on my desktop (using fluxbox).
    Any ideas on where to go next?

  • BPM - Receive Sync/ASync Bridge Problem

    Hi,
    I am creating a scenario for an inbound Synch request to be serviced by a BPM process.
    Here is the problem that I am facing while trying to configure the Receive Step
    - I created a Message Interface defined as Abstract Synchronous.
    - I created a process model and put in a Receive Step: Mode - Opens S/A Bridge, Synchronous Interface - defined as above.
    - I define a container with Abstract type. But when I try to locate the above defined Abstract Synch message interface, I cannot find it.
    - As a workaround, I create another Abstract Message Interface defined as Abstract ASynch.
    - I create a container with this Abstract ASynch message type.
    - I use this container in the Receive Step.
    But activating the Business Process gives the error:
    Message to be received and Synchronous Interface do not have identical types.
    Can someone give me the correct procedure to configure the Sync / ASync Bridge ? thanks,
    -Manish

  • CS5 Design Premium Installation Adobe Bridge problem

    When I try and install CS5 Design Premium it fails because it wants me to close Adobe Bridge (which is not open) and won't let me go any further. I tried uninstalling CS3 but it won't let me because it wants me to close Adobe Bridge.
    What Now?

    There shoult be a Bridge icon in the system tray (bottom right corner), close Bridge from here and run the uninstaller or if you don't find this icon you can kill process Bridge.exe but this is not always the best way to overcome a problem. I would recommend closing the application from system tray icon.
    Thanks,
    Tahseen

  • Photoshop Bridge problem

    Bridge opens to Paint or Windows explorer on the first try when opening a photo. Subsequently pictures open to CS4 as they should.Bridge opened to Windows Explorer after Paint disabled. CS3 similarly affected after CS4 installed and CS2 removed.Problem persists.

    This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
    If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
      Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
         Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
        Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
      If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Bridge Problem opening files in Photoshop CS6

    CS6 Bridge appears to work fine, however when I try to open a file into Photoshop CS6 I get a flag saying it cannot find Photoshop CS4? Any ideas?
    TIA Keith

    You can open Bridge and change the file associations in Edit>File Type Associations to change to PS CS6.  That is the easiest way.  Another way would be to open Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs to change the file association for .jpeg, .psd., .tif, et cetera.
    For your info, and others, this does not work in situations were the file associations become corrupted by uninstalling a previous version.  The mechanism for corruption is not quite clear to Adobe, but somehow the registry for file associations gets reset to the version that was deleted.  Since the normal methods of changing file associations, that you mention, do not affect the registry file in question, the problem still remains.  Therefore one needs to wipe files with the Adobe Script Cleaner or go in and change the registry.
