Virtualization on hyperion products.....

Hi All,
is it possible to make virtualization on hyperion products.....
if yes, which versions are compatible....
Thanks in advance
Kiran

Oracle has a Metalink note which addresses this. I do not have the id off hand.
The text follows, "Support for Oracle's Hyperion Products in Virtualized Environments
Oracle has not certified Hyperion products on third-party virtualized environments; however, Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle's Hyperion products on third-party virtualized environments as follows:
When a customer logs a previously unreported issue, Oracle Support may require the issue to be diagnosed in a non-virtualized environment when there is reason to believe that the virtual environment is a contributing factor. Oracle Support may refer customers to the third-part virtualization vendor for issues that can not be duplicated in non-virtualized environments.
When a problem has been previously reported and a resolution is available, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the non-virtualized OS. If that solution does not work in the virtual environment, the customer will be referred to their virtualization software vendor for support. If the customer demonstrates that the Oracle solution does not work when running on a non-virtualized OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.
While Oracle's Hyperion products are expected to function properly in virtual environments, there may be performance implications, which can invalidate Oracle's typical sizing recommendations. An analysis should be performed within the context of the specific application to be hosted in the virtual environment to mitigate potential resource contention, as this can result in degradation of performance and scalability, particularly under peak load."
The point about performance is very key as an over-loaded VM environment WILL cause poor performance. Out of many many cases I have seen their stance on possibly making you re-create issues on physical hardware only come into play once.

    Hyperion's official stance:
    Oracle has not certified Hyperion products on virtualized environments;
I'm surprised that there are users in this forum who are using VMware instead of physical servers. If you run into a bug, Oracle tech support require you to replicate that bug in physical servers before they will help you.
Also, consultants tell us that data has been known to be lost by virtual servers.
Has anyone good results from running Planning and Essbase on VMware?

Thats right I dont personally have access to Metalink2.
    I found a statement on Metalink3:
Click the knowledge tab, go to Advanced Search, tick all sources and in the Doc ID field enter 588303.1. Hit Search!
    You get the following statement:
    Hyperion Essbase
    Goal
Describe support for Oracle's Hyperion Products in virtualized environments.
    Solution
Oracle has not certified Hyperion products on third-party virtualized environments; however, Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle’s Hyperion products on third-party virtualized environments as follows:

  • Hyperion Products and Training

I'm not sure if this is the right folder to ask my question.
I'm a BI contractor who has used a wide variety of Reporting tools but not Hyperion.
I've got an opportunity that will involve using Hyperion, so I'll need to learn it.
I'm having trouble identifing what product I need to learn and what books or tutorials that are available, partly because Oracle have renamed a lot of the products, partly because Hyperion has a scifi meaning that comes up in searches.
I think they are using Hyperion Performance suite 8.3, and I think they are planning to upgrade to 11.1 (but I don't know the name of the new product).
I'm expecting there to be a reporting tool similar to Crystal or MS Reporting services within the suite.
Can anyone tell me what that tool is called in each version? and if there are any books or tutorials you'd recommend to help me upskill quickly?
    Thanks.

The Hyperion products are not part of the BI Applications. Check the Business Intelligence category of this forum:
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=16
Hyperion Query and Reporting -> Hyperion Query and Reporting
    Smart Space -> Smart Space
    Essbase -> ttp://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=405
...and that's just the groups in the BI foundation. Below there's more.

  • Reconfigure issues in EPMA with hyperion products(essbase,HFM,Planning)

    Hi All,
Reconfigure issues in EPMA with hyperion products(essbase,HFM,Planning, calc manager, etc.,)
I have created new schema for foundation and one more schema for all other hyperion products and try to reconfigure but i unable to configure and all components are not shown in some hyperion products( in workspace in administer im unable to see classic application, in essbase im unable to see all application...).
as per my understanding im unable to see *"Registerd with shared services"* for each products in the final stages of configure.
Please try to know that what may be the cause.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kittu.

I can't answer the Import profile, though could you expand on

In planning i was not able to import Security and planning units. Can you please help? Are you trying to import access permissions using LCM ?
If you are importing security into a target application then I believe that the users will need to exist in the tables before you do so.
I would run the provisionusers.cmd or go into the planning app and go to provision dimension security and click migrate identities.

I am not an infrastructure expert, but if you are new to Hyperion, I would definitely look for some external help (Consultants). Hyperion Installation and Configurations are extremely complicated.
This is a good starting point: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/nav/portal_1.htm

    Hi Vasavya,
Thanks for your reply. I have one more doubt, What the Essbase studio and Hyperion Data Integration Management will do. Is there any possibilities to complete the above mentioned task by using these tools.

  • Hyperion products not showing in Services

    Hello Gurus,
I have installed and configured the epm system planning, reports, hss but I do not see them in SERVICES, Is thre anything I need to do after the configuration?
    Thanks

Yes I did deploy the application to server. Well, I might missed something while installing/config. I have just uninstalled it. I am looking at some Oracle docs some of the FORUM members have suggested. Will try to install it again.
Thanks for the response, and thanks all for responses, you guys are all great.
