Visio hyperlinks criteria for correct PDF export

Hi everybody,
I am using Visio 2010 and i am trying to understand how to create hyperlinks in order to have them correctly exported to PDF. I made two tests:
1) New project from scratch, with two pages and no layers. In the first page there is a text label with an hyperlink to the second page: it is correctly exported to PDF and it works properly
2) Working on an existing project, having 93 pages, lots of text labels and shapes organized in different layers. I tried to add hyperlinks to different objects, but when I save it as PDF all hyperlinks are lost
I can figure out what is preventing hyperlinks to be exported to PDF, I checked the manual and many resources on the internet but I still have no clue. Any idea?
Many thanks,
Andrea

Hi,
Based on my research, as for Visio 2010, adding a Hyperlink to a shape and then saving the drawing as PDF, then the hyperlink will be preserved in the PDF file when viewed with the Adobe.
And it seems cannot be done without some other PDF programs which to be told not free.

signed up twice for adobe pdf export to word and still not working - anyone else have this problem?

In XI.
I can’t just export to word as I have done in the past in one simple click.
Convert to button is greyed out.
Now I have to save the pdf file on c drive when I am in outlook…then goto export pdf file…then find file then export to word.
I bought new computer with windows 8 (which is awful) and then bought pdf export again…
Any thoughts on how I can get back to one simple click again when I open a pdf file from an email in outlook?
Thank you,

• How to change the default print template for broadcast PDF Export

Hi,
I have currently designed a print template for printing purposes and use this as the template for the print button(Export to PDF),if i were to click on this button the output pdf is the desired PDF. But if i were to broadcast the template with output format as PDF it picks the layout of the current template, how do i set broadcast to pick up the print template also???
Further how to insert a page break in a PDF print template.

Hi Nagesh,
These setting are for
1.Adhoc Template for Queries
2. Adhoc Template for reports designed through report designer
3. Template for query precalculation
4. Template for displaying broadcasting wizard.
When we use broadcasting from query designer  to email PDF's the system uses 0QUERY_TEMPLATE_BROADCAST_PDF.
From WAD the system uses the current template layout as PDF Layout.
P.S: OSS note 1054460 -<b>Depending on the BI object type and possibly other criteria, different Web templates are used in BI broadcasting to generate PDF (and PS or PCL) formats:</b>
<i>For Web templates: the Web template itself is used</i>

• RDC XI R2 - Documentation for pdf export registry options

Where can we find documentation explaining the various registry options for controlling pdf export behavior?
For example, ForceLargerFonts, UsePrecisePositioningForText, etc...

Actually you can find a kbase and blog...
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=1435991
Short story is, set for CR 2008 but I verified from our source code it does exist in XI R2 also:
How to enable the registry keys for PDF exporting?
- Open the regedit on the machine and set the registry key at the similar location below:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBusiness ObjectsSuite 12.0Crystal ReportsExportPDF]
The following are the registry keys for PDF exporting:
u2022     ForceLargerFonts
Purpose: To deal with text truncation issues.
Value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBusiness ObjectsSuite 12.0Crystal ReportsExportpdf]
"ForceLargerFonts"=dword:00000001
0 u2013 disable
1 - enable
u2022     UsePrecisePositioningForText and TruncationAdjustment
Purpose: When "ForceLargerFonts" doesn't work, implement this one. This one is to deal with text truncation issues as well.
How to use:
The new behaviour is controlled by two registry keys,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBusiness ObjectsSuite 11.0Crystal ReportsExportPdf]
"UsePrecisePositioningForText"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBusiness ObjectsSuite 11.0Crystal ReportsExportPdf]
"TruncationAdjustment"=dword:00000005
The new behaviour is turned on when u201CUsePrecisePositioningForTextu201D is set to 1.
u201CTruncationAdjustmentu201D is used for adjusting rounding. Itu2019s only activated when u201CUsePrecisePositioningForTextu201D is set to 1. Its valid values are 0 to 10. Default value 5 should be sufficient for eliminating virtually all truncation issues.
Itu2019s worth mentioning that u201CForceLargerFontsu201D setting is ignored when u201CUsePrecisePositioningForTextu201D is set to 1.

• Three panel brochure pdf export problem

I've created a three panel brochure, using the Pages 2 template. I need to share this with Windows people (who will handle the actual printing), so I exported it to pdf format. It looks OK (and Apple automatically embeds the fonts, nice!). However, the printed version is slightly different, such that the folds don't work correctly (images and words cross the folds).
The pdf export prints perfectly from Preview, but not from Acrobat, which is what the Windows people have. Printing to pdf creates the same problem. Anybody know of a workaround to create the proper proportions for a pdf export? Thanks.

Stephen- Based on some other discussions I read, I did try printing to pdf-x. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem.
Barabara- As it turned out, Adobe Acrobat was not printing at 100% in either Windows or OS X. In the Windows print command window, page scaling was defaulted to "reduce to printer margins." This meant the document was printing at 96%. By changing page scaling to "none," the document printed to 100%, fixing the problem.
Likewise, in OS X, Adobe Acrobat's page scaling was also defaulted to "reduce to printer margins." This scaled the page to 93%, which caused the printing problem. By changing page scaling to "none" the document printed at 100%, fixing the problem. Thanks for the suggestion, which solved my problem.

• Import and Update PDF Export Preset

Hey there again!
I'm now trying to define a preset for the PDF Export process... it's based on the "High Quality Print" (from the Adobe PDF Preset list), and then I want to change "one or two" parameters.
Changing one or two parameters is easy, I've been doing that already, but since most of them are already defined by the "High Quality Print" Preset, my idea was:
Load the "High Quality Preset"
And after that change the required parameters
And then export to PDF of course!
How can this be done?
Many thanks!!
Best regards.

@m8r-vrpa5v – I think, it is not best practice to change a default PDF Export Preset. Instead I would add a new preset based on the default one.
When looking at your code you have to use the right syntax.
Every time you assign a value to a property you have to use the right object that property belongs to.
Some values are only functional, if some other property is set (this goes especially for the bleed settings).
Do not write:
bleedTop='0mm';
ExtendScript cannot know by itself where this property and its value should be assigned to what object.
Right syntax would be:
myPDFExportPreset.bleedTop='0mm';
Or (I used no meassurement units, the value 0 does not require this):
myPDFExportPreset.properties = {
useDocumentBleedWithPDF : true,
bleedTop : 0 ,
bleedBottom : 0 ,
bleedInside : 0 ,
bleedOutside : 0
Hi Uwe,
Thanks for your remark... that was my mistake when using copy paste.
I was reusing code from another script where I used the WITH function, in here I was using a different structure and I didn't correct this.
But thanks again for the remark!

• Greyscale pdf export

I am trying to save my pages document into a pdf format (which I can do no problem). However, I imported some graphics from the internet and they are in color. I need these to be in greyscale for my pdf export. How can I accomplish this?

Apply the Grayscale Quartz Filter to it. You can do this through Automator, Preview, or maybe the Colorsync Utility; I do not remember exactly for 10.5

I purchased PDF Export to take a PDF file and convert it to a text file so I could import it into excel, when doing so I get a bunch of extra symbles plus the numbers that i'm trying to convert are not complete.

Could you try disabling the 'Recognize text' function and convert the file again?

• HTTPS hyperlinks not working when report exported to PDF

Hi,
I have the following problem - I have a https link in the report, which works properly when the report is exported to HTML, Excel, DOC, but no hyperlink is rendered when the report is exported to PDF.
Important: When http:// or mailto: are used in the hyperlink, then the PDF export renders the link correctly. Only https does not render properly and only in PDF.
I am using Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008. The following 2 dlls are referenced in the .net application:
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine 10.5.3700.0
CrystalDecisions.Shared 10.5.3700.0
Thanks in advance for any hints!
Br,
Leon

Update
I did a little more testing and it worked for me because my Text field said https://mail.google.com and the hyperlink in the background was also https://mail.google.com. Once I updated the Text object to read Gmail it failed like yours did.
I suspect this is something that spilled over from version 10. Crystal Reports Basic is built on the version 10 runtime and the issue may have been fixed in version 10 but missed for CR Basic. I have a feeling this works without error in XI R2 and 2008.

• Hyperlinks do not work when exporting to PDF (Crystal and Visual Cut)

I have a question about Crystal Reports XI Release 2 and Visual Cut 11. I create reports in Crystal and export them using Visual Cut. Some reports contain hyperlinks to files on a network drive. However, the links only work while in Crystal. The PDF files that are printed through Visual Cut display the links, but they are not clickable. How can this issue be fixed?
In case it helps, the links also work when I export reports from Crystal to HTML, Word, and Excel, but not when I export to Acrobat. I believe it is a problem with tagging/accessibilityfeatures. So is there a setting/formula in Crystal or Visual Cut that would allow the exported PDF files to be accessible?

While Crystal exports to pdf indeed lose hyperlink functionality (both in Crystal as well as in Visual CUT), Visual CUT allows you to use Crystal formulas (acting as hidden Tags) to create hyperlinks in the resulting pdf file. Another option supported by Visual CUT it to automatically detect file references in the pdf text and turn them into hyperlinks.  Contact MilletSoftware for more detail.

• Crystal Reports for VS 2010 corrupts "some" Thai chars on PDF Export

Any Thai character that contains a symbol above it (like an umlat in English) gets corrupted when exporting a report to PDF, yet the same report can be exported to Excel or Word without any issue.
See the following character - once with a symbol above one without:
ล้ ล
The PDF file will not display the first character - instead it displays the second character overlayed on a box (like you get when the font does not contain the required character)
If I create a text field in the Crystal designer, it does the same thing - but when I right click and edit, it displays correctly - until I click out of the field when the problem returns. So this suggests the problem is before the PDF export and maybe with the designer - but then why does it work if i export to Word?
I have tried may different fonts - including those specifically recommended and used by the Thais, but all have the same issue.
My work around at the moment is to use Word instead of PDF, as I do not believe there is a configuration change I can make that will resolve the issue, but would love to hear otherwise.
I am using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 version 13 running on Windows 7 x64. I have a beta 2 download of v14, but it requires a key code which i do not have, so as yet ahave been unable to verify if this issue is resolved in that version.
if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know
Cheers
Jed

Thanks Don,
(Good to know that version 13 I am running is the correct one)
I have tried many UTF-8 fonts, with largely similar results, but this testing here is with Cordia New - a font largely aimed at Thai Language and the one our Thai customers always use.
I have confirmed that right click and export from the IDE still shows the box on certain characters - but note that the box does not replace these characters (as would be the case if they were missing) but rather overlays them - which is why my subject includes the word 'corrupt'
All testing so far in on my Windows 7 development machine - so no user issues are involved
The code if fairly simple at this stage - define and load a data set - then link it to the report and use the built in export to disk functions:
                    OutboundSummary rpt = new OutboundSummary();
                    rpt.SetDataSource(outboundSummary);
                    string tempDir = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("TEMP") + "
                    string filename = tempDir + DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH-mm-ss");
                    rpt.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, filename + ".pdf");
                    rpt.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.WordForWindows, filename + ".doc");
If anyone wanted to verify, here is a piece of Thai text that will show the problem
ผลรวมแฟกซ์ที่ยังอยู่ในคิว
To better illustrate the problem, the attached image will help

I am coming to the conclusion that perhaps these characters are not single characters - at least do not appear as such with each font - and perhaps Windows does some magic to make them appear correctly. I can see that Word automatically converts them to a suitable font - i.e. a mixed language text file imports into word with different fonts for different languages - and you cannot change the font to one that does not support the language. I can specify Arial from Crystal which does not contain thai characters at all - but export to word and they show correctly.
Crystal spits the data out and Word converts it correctly, but acrobat does not - so maybe it is their fault?
I have all language packs on my machine - and doing Chinese next suggests that even if I find a thai font that worked, it would not work in chinese, so am thinking word or rtf might be the winner.
Cheers

• How do I retain Microsoft Word hyperlinks (internal to the Word document) in pdf export?

How do I retain Microsoft Word hyperlinks (internal to the Word document) in pdf export? I lose them in process. Using Word 2011 (14.4.3) and Mavericks. Have tried importing to Pages 5.2 and exporting, but that does not work either.

• Are Hyperlinks supposed to work after PDF export?

The web and e-mail links I created for my newsletter work fine in Pages, but when I export to PDF to share with everyone, the links don't work (they're still blue and underlined... just not clickable.)
Aren't the hyperlinks supposed to survive the export to PDF option? If so, is there a setting or preference I've overlooked? (I made sure the "make all hyperlinks inactive" checkbox is unchecked)
Thanks in advance for any help...
Dual-processor G4, 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Welcome to Apple Discussions David
This is a rather old thread. Since the previous last post a whole new version of iWork with Pages 2 & Keynote 3 has been released.
Using the OS X Save As PDF... option in the Print dialog (as you probably did with the Word document) creates a picture of the page. Just like you can't click on a printed piece of paper with the blue, underlined links or a scanned picture of something with a web address without software to recognize them as links. The links are underlined because that is what Word does with them & you can click on them in a Word document opened on your computer.
I haven't tried it yet, but others have reported that the Export to PDF function in Pages 2 does retain active links...
I just did a quick test by putting a hyperlink in a Pages 2 document & both exported & printed it as PDFs. In both documents opened in Preview it looked like the links were active & clicking them took me to my web browser, Safari, but neither one opened the page the link was to.
