I am from UK and am trying to find out how best to sign on to a US mobile network and one with the appropriate coverage, as I will be in New England for 3 months, 2 of that around Oxford, Maine.  I have joined this forum just hoping for more helpful advice having experienced a very poor Sales & Customer support via both the Web Chat and Phone medium.
Poor WebChat Support
Earlier whilst finding from the website the network coverage claims by Verizon over the Oxford area, I took up the WebChat support that popped up.  The first Chat agent advised Verizon don't do PAYG!  Have disappointedly signed off, I reasoned to myself that can't be as there was an option to select Prepaid coverage on the Verizon interactive map! So I persevered with exploring the Verizon website and found a whole section on Prepaid, with a even a dedicated WebChat button on the page. So realising it must have been a terminology misunderstanding, I clicked on the WebChat request to try to ask for any pre-requisites, as when I was last in Canada (Ottawa) to buy a SIM, evidently it is not common to sell PrePaid in Canada. It was over an hour to get one sorted because of all sort of procedures. The second Chat agent at least admit he didn't know what is PAYG- then even when I spelt it out he only understood it as another term for Prepaid- then advised he can't help me (even though I later found out it is even the actual name of one of your number of Prepaid Plans available!)!  Instead he informed I best call Customer Support on 9085594899 despite reminding him I am in the UK.  When I asked about hours of service and the time difference (being at 17:00 hrs in the UK) - he told me not to worry as it's 24 hours support!
Poor Phone Support
The number given turned out to be only for Roaming and Mobile data support only!  The first option requiring a registered number which obviously I don't have, so selecting the second the call just got cut-off eventually after ringing on unanswered!  Frustrated I found via the Contact Us link the supposedly 24 hours number for Pre-paid Customers 8882946804.  After finding the one option to speak to an agent without having to key in a registered mobile number first (I think Credit Card payment), again the call just got cut-off eventually after ringing on unanswered. Then thought may be best try the Consumer Sales line 08002564646 given on the page, and it finally got answered but turns out to be for Business account only (which is a different number according to the webpage!)  At least the Business Account agent heard my problem and agreed to stay online until she successfully transfer me to a Prepaid agent.  The Prepaid agent on the otherhand couldn't be less helpful.  Completely ignored my query on any pre-requistes to sign on any Prepaid plans just wanted to know which Prepaid plans I was interested in and then just rolled off the tariffs for the plan I happened to mention and wanted to get me off the phone.  I had to ask her again for any other common requirements - she just say I pay for the tariff plan!  No interest to talk me through the process.
Extra item only identified on FORUM
Yet on here you advised there is an activation fee to add to any Prepaid plan irrespective of Phone in Box or Customer own Device!  Whereas I gone back to the Verizon Wireless website on Prepaid plan and below that what it has summarised with the relevant words highlighted in RED by me.  Where will I find this activation fee identified on the Prepaid plans pages rather 'hidden' behind small print/ T&C link?   As it seems Verizon has good coverage and range of Prepaid options - but inadvisable to incurr any issues or queries after taking up the service.

As per my reply to RCSCHNOOR, sorry for my late acknowledgement of your prompt advice.
I had done the signal coverage check on your top 3 providers' maps i.e. in size order: AT&T (moderate), Verizon (full), Sprint (no coverage). Hence I went for Verizon (without thinking about CDMA) to pursue Prepaid plan details.
I have now checked on T-Mobile and coverage in 'my' area (04270) is only through sharing 3rd party. So AT&T is my best bet..  Their website on Prepaid plan is even more confusing to me - not helped by them calling it 'GoPhone'. It does say the tariff applies to 'bring your own phone' but not possible to select and order this plan (SIM) online without next choosing a phone.  Their LiveChat agent was more helpful but I didn't picked up the website anomaly on ordering till afterwards so will get back to them later.
BTW the other reason for posting my questions about pre-requisites here, as the Verizon agents were finding some of my questions naive, but to the members here who have been outside USA may understand the reason for such questions.  Such as in Canada the Prepaid SIM I got from Rogers were issued with the city number where I got it from! So when I travelled to the next city - all my 'local' calls were being treated as long distance - that's only between Ottawa and Toronto (not coast to coast!).  To request a new local number was free, but then I have to inform my contacts another new number!  It took me over an hour to get the info and the Prepaid SIM in Canada, and that was in a Rogers showroom/ outlet, evidently (at least in Ottawa) they have no call for Prepaid!  I understand that's not the case at least with AT&T in the States.
So I was hoping, members here may have been to UK for an extended stay can understand now what's accepted practice in one, is not in the other, and by reverse point out what's different in the US.

    Hi Shootist. I would be interested in hearing some reasoning on this. I almost always use a USB cable to connect my camera to the MBP for transferring pictures, and have moved about 30,000 this way over the last 6 years since my photography went digital. Recently, on the rare occassions when I have only a few to transfer and I was too lazy to go for the cable, I have used the card reader; about half those times I have difficulty getting the MBP to recognise the card. I find I have to press the card very hard into the slot for it to be recognised.
    My rationale is quite possibly wrong, but I feel that the USB connectors are more robust and hard-wearing than the flimsy connectors on an SD card. Also, I haven't measured it, but I think the data transfer is faster with the cable. (I just came across this test, which reports noticeably faster transfer for cable than built-in card reader, but the computer was a PC)

    I bought two ipod touches for my children last week (all kids under 10 if it makes a difference). Child #3 already has one. When I bought them, I was told that I can download movies on each for an upcoming long distance trip. If child 1 wants to watch something downloaded on child 2's ipod, they can sign in under child 2's account and watch it on their own ipod BUT it won't be saved to that device.
    However, I went in today to get them set up. I asked about this, and music and other things. I was told that if you sign in on one device under a different apple id, that device is locked to that apple id for three months. Its apparently an effort to stop pirating.  I was told its the same for music. If I buy a song on my account that my 5 year old wants, I have to buy it twice because if my son signs onto his ipod under my apple id, the ipod is then under my account for the next 3 months, along with all my games, music etc. and his apps are no longer accessible to him. 
    Is this acccurate? Honestly, I"m afraid to try. I don't want my kids to be stuck with my apple id, which has no apps or antyhing attached to it other than some music.
    BTW I had to set up their own itunes account despite that they're too young to have one because we're maxed at 5 devices (2 iphones, ipad and our own ipods). We couldn't add any others so I created a itunes account for my two youngest to share and a separate account for my 10 year old so that he could have his own facetime.
    Can anyone help? Can I sign onto my kids ipod with my id without having them locked out of their apps? Can the two of them share a movie?

    I, too am having the same issues as above like the many others. For days i have been trying to uninstall reinstall as per troubleshooting but to no avail.Apple, you need to fix this!

    Hello and welcome to the Skype Community!
    In that case you should purchase another Subscription but with a different amount of monthly minutes. You can't have two identical Subscriptions running at the same time on the same account.

    Click: Edit Payment Information
    Make sure you have the correct Security Code.

    Please give me a screenshot of the current AE setup..
    I strongly recommend if you have issues.. take control of all the variables. Apple routers have too much auto..
    Here is a list that I use for setups when using Yosemite.. but it relates to any OS.
    You will need to factory reset again to get going.
    Factory reset universal
    Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
    Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite or whatever you are using.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
    eg AEgen5 for basestation.
    Use AE24ghz and AE5ghz for wireless on each band, with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for router but if the AE is bridged you can have trouble.. Try using the static IP method or control it via the main router dhcp reservations.
    4. Check your share name on the computer/s is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Set up the extend to the Express using 2.4ghz and then see how good or bad the connection is.. this is better in the old v5 utility but if you hover your mouse over where it shows connection an extra chunk of info comes up.
    I have specifically used 5ghz to make the extend.. because by testing it works better.. but do not be fooled.. this good connection is poor.. the RSSI.. which is difference signal .. at -79dbm is down the bottom of the stable.. and it drops out on a daily basis.. you want to see that signal around -60dbm at min.
    There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.

    A few things to try, in order...
    Pop your SIM out, clean it and reinsert.
    Reset your network settings.
    Contact AT&T and make sure your account is provisioned properly.
    Get a new SIM.
    Restore from your backup.
    Restore as new, i.e. without your backup.
    If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.  Take it to Apple for a warranty replacement.

    Man, I can't begin to say how utterly pissed off I am that they didn't bother to say it was for new customers only ANYWHERE on the splash pages or audio ads.  That's very deceitful, IMHO.
    I subscribed thinking the promo rate would show up on my bill or in the confirmation e-mail.  Nope. $10.98.  I canceled it before I even played one song but if the charge goes through (it's still pending) I'm disputing the charge.
    All Spotify has done for me now is guarantee that I will never subscribe again at any rate, promotional or not, because of this stupidity.  At least I'm not the only one here who fell for this trickery.
