Visual Studio 2005/2008 and Crystal Reports versions/upgrade questions.

I've tried posting this question on the MSDN forums and gotten no response.
I've downloaded and installed VS 2008 Beta 2.   The versions on the Crystal Reports files included are 10.5.0.1806
I'm currently using VS 2005, with the included Crystal Reports.  The versions on those files are 10.2.0.xxxx.  I've created an desktop app (in VB) which stores it's data in a database and uses the CR 10 runtime merge modules to generate a report.
I was considering upgrading the Crystal Reports version to XI.  I would like to allow customers to modify my delivered report with their own licensed copy of CR XI.  I am not providing any functionality within my app to create or modify the delivered .rpt or use it outside my application.
Questions:
Do I need to update the runtime files to CR XI to support rpt files modified with CR XI?  Current runtime files are being delivered with the CR 10 merge module.
I see a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio upgrade to CR XI.
Can I update the merge modules to CR XI and still use the CR for VS2005 for development?
Does it make any sense to update CR for VS 2005?  Or to get the full CR XI Developer edition?  My usage of CR functionality is very limited.
Would there be any benefit to waiting for the release of VS 2008?   How does that change the scenario?
How does Crystal Reports for Visual Studio fit in with the Crystal Reports Lifecycle?  It's not mentioned on Business Objects End of Life Dates page . Crystal 10 has a Patch EOL of 31-Dec-07.   Does this apply to CR for VS 2005?  Where does 10.5 fit in?
My main concern is allowing customers with CR XI to change the format of my delivered .rpt to run with my app.  Adding their company name, logo, etc.   My testing show a CR XI report still works with my current app.  But, going forward, what should I deliver and what do I need to use to continue development?

To use Reports designed in XI, you need to use XI or higher runtime, running them in older versions may work, but you may encounter unforeseen issues doing so.
If you are to use VS2005 for development you need to use XI Release 2 (11.5) runtime.
If you are going to use VS2008 for development you need to use Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 0.
The support end of life for versions of Crystal Reports bundled with Visual Studio are linked to what Microsoft's lifecycle for the product is.  Generally if there is a workaround for the issue that is simple enough, there will not be a patch created.
The changes you are expecting the customer to do can be accomplished with our RAS SDK which is available without using enterprise starting with Crystal Reports XIR2 SP2.

  • Silverlight and Crystal Reports Version 11.2

    Hello
a customer works with Crystal Reports Version 11.2. Is it possible to create a Silverlight Application (in order to set the parameters) and then call the RPT-File? Is there a link for an example?
What I have found so far is this blog entry: http://www.global-webnet.net/blogengine/post/2009/01/06/Running-Crystal-Reports-from-Silverlight.aspx
... But nobody can tell me which version of Crystal Reports is needed.
    Thanks!
    Bernhard

    Hi Bernhard,
From the looks of the Design in your link it does appear to be a newer version of CR. It may be version 10.2 or 10.5 that comes with VS 2005 and 2008 he was using. If it was then R2 should work also.
There is a link to Contact the blogger, ask him what versions he was using.
Unfortunately we have not done any testing with silver light so can't say if it will work. Add your request to the Idea Place link above, search first, and then vote for it if found. Program Managers do watch it closely and they will add it if enough people request it.

  • Active Directory 2008 and Crystal Reporting

    Hello,
My company is planning to upgrade to Active Directory 2008 R2. But before we do so, we must understand how our servers & applications interact/work with Active Directory 2008 R2. Could you please answer the following questions in regards to your application Crystal Reporting (version 10):
    1.     How does Crystal Reporting interact with Active Directory (AD)?
    2.     Is there a specific domain controller hardcoded with Crystal Reporting ?
    3.     Does Crystal Reporting support Active Directory 2008 R2?
Your assistance and timely response with this matter is very much appreciated. Thank you.
    - Peter

    Hi Peter,
Crystal Reports is a standalone install on the local Work Station. AD won't affect it. Unless there is some info you are telling us about how you access CR?
    Thank you

  • T400 ATi Driver, Vista64, Visual Studio 2005/2008 + OpenGL = Application hangs

Well, the thread title sums it up pretty concisely.
I develop OpenGL Apps in C++ on my Lenovo T400. My OS is Windows Vista 64 and I use Switchable Graphics. When using ATI Graphics my apps hang since i installed the lastest ATI Driver for the T400 (Release: 2009-04-28) when (and only when) starting the applications in the debugger. When starting the apps directly (either compiled for Debug or Release targets, both 32-bit) however, they work (!).
As far i can tell it hangs when it tries swapping the buffers (for double buffering).
This happens both in Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. When will there be a fixed driver?

    timebits wrote:
This is really annoying since this is the only driver supporting OpenGL 3.0!
The current Lenovo driver is Catalyst 8.12 based (8.56 driver release). I thought OpenGL 3.0 support was only added in Catalyst 9.1 (8.57 driver)?
The next Lenovo driver will be Catalyst 9.3 based (8.59 driver.) It was supposed to have shipped by the end of April but they had problems so decided to ship the Catalyst 8.12 based driver instead (the driver we had before 4/28 was really old -- based on Catalyst 8.8 -- 8.52 driver)
For the whole saga of Lenovo/ATI's tardiness in making switchable graphics work see this thread.
If you as a developer are dependent on having uptodate functionality in your graphics driver, you should consider modding the drivers you can download from the ATI site. All the links here are for Vista 32 but I am sure you can find the corresponding Vista 64 links. This means giving up on switchable graphics and setting discrete graphics (and os autodetect off) in bios.
Starting Catalyst 9.4 (8.60 driver) ATI included switchable graphics in the drivers downloadable from their site. But unless you want to waste a lot of time -- stay with discrete graphics in bios.
Btw I tried the modded Catalyst 9.4 (8.60 driver) on my Vista 32 T500 but had terrible performance in OpenGL (not 3.0) so went back to my modded Catalyst 9.1 (8.57 driver*) which I have good performance with.

  • Integrating Pro*C/C++ files in Visual Studio 2005/2008 with 11g

    Hi,
I have already builted application in VS 6.0 and oracle 9i ,which uses .pc file
can you please tell me how should I integrate it into VS 2005/2008 and 11g
I am not able to handle .pc file references and all stuff.

    Hi,
    VS2008 is not supported with Pro*C and 11g... http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32301/toc.htm#BGBEEBAD
There is no procui.exe these days, that was done away with back in 10.2. You'll need to use the command line version now (proc.exe)
For custom build options, I've always just figured out the exact command line needed to precompile the particular file, and pasted the whole thing into the command line part of "Pre Build Event".. for example:
    proc parse=full iname=sample1.pc oname=precompiledsample1.c include="d:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\oci\include" include="d:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\precomp\public" include="d:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\VC98\include" include="d:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\VC98\PlatformSDK\include"Hope it helps,

  • Crystal Reports version upgrade:  Which product?

These are the versions of Crystal Reports we are currently using with Visual Studio 2005 (.Net Framework 2.0):
The reports are designed using the SDK on the developers workstation (outside of Visual Studio).
The reports are generated from the web servers.
Crystal Reports .NET Developer XI Release 2  (build 11.5.0.31327)
(this package includes Crystal Reports XI Release 2 .NET 2005 Server for limited server installs)
We want to upgrade to the latest versions compatible with Visual Studio 2010.
We want to continue generating the reports on the web servers.
Which product should we order that is the equivalent of the version we currently have but compatible with Visual Studio 2010?
    Thank you.

    I appreciate your response.
There seems to be several different flavors/variations of Crystal Reports both in the past and currently.
We just want to be sure that the newest one is the equivalent of the flavor we have currently:
Crystal Reports .NET Developer XI Release 2 (build 11.5.0.31327)
(this package includes Crystal Reports XI Release 2 .NET 2005 Server for limited server installs)
Is Crystal Reports 2011 the equivalent of the version we are currently using?
Does it come with limited server Crystal engines for the web servers without licensing issues?
    Again...Thanks.

  • Windows Server 2008 and Crystal Reports 8.5 printing issue

I am having a problem when using the crystal reports 8.5 report viewer ocx (ActiveX) under Windows Server 2008.
When logging onto the server through remote desktop, a report can be shown on screen in preview. When this report is printed, and the user requests more than one copy, the printer only ever prints one copy. Is this a configuration of the terminal server, or simply that the ocx control doesn't cater for it?
I am using the Windows Server 2008 "Terminal services Easy Print" drivers on the terminal server.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi Sastry
I can print multiple pages from notepad without any issues. It is only the print from the crystal OCX control that has the issue. It has it's own print dialog box.
    Thanks

  • Vb6 deployment and Crystal Report 8.5

    Hi,
I tried to deploy a Visual Basic 6 on a client pc that use Crystal Report 8.5.
Because no merge files exist for this version of Crystal Report I tried to added all the necessary dll in the deploy package (using visual basic 6 tools deployment).
I read the file Runtime.hlp so I added every dll wriiten in this file.
When I run my setup I always have this error :
The program can't start because CRPE32.dll is missing from your computer.
It's strange because I added this dll to my deployment package.
So I don't no what to do anymore.
Need some help to solve this problem because I know it's easier with more recent version of Crystal Report because of the merge file but right now this software need CR 8.5.
    Regards,
    Hugo

    Hi,
Ok here what I'm trying to do.
I have an application Visual Basic 6 that use crystal report 8.5 to export the report in pdf using the dll cradxt.dll by programming.
On the dev pc I have Visual Studio 6.0 and Crystal Report 8.5 installed.
I want to install this software on another PC so I created a deployment package, automatically the pakage added the "necessary" dlls.
But is not enough I need to added more on the client pc so it's hard even if I read the Runtime.hlp that come with Crystal Report 8.5 and I added all the dll it always seems to miss somes.
So I was wondering if a merge module or something exist like the other version of Crystal Reports to install the necessary dlls on a clients pc.
Otherwise what is the best way to do it ?
    Regards.

  • Using Crystal Reports version 8.5

    Hi,
I am using legaly Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and Crystal Reports Basic for VS 2008 for software developing and reporting.
My client usees a third party software with reports designed in Crystal Reports 8.5 and I have to create new reports for that application. My client has Crystal Reports 8.5 Runtime installed. I tested, if I install Cristal Reports 2008 Runtime for my new reports, the other reports in 8.5 version is not work correctly. The migration of the existing reports to new version of Crystal Reports is not possible.
        My questions are:
        1. I can legaly use Cristal Reports 8.5 developer software if I have Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008?
        2. If I can, please tell me a link to download Crystal Reports 8.5.
        3. Can I install Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime and Crystal Reports 8.5 Runtime on same computer and all the reports, designed in the two versions of Crystal Reports, to work correctly?
    Thank you!

OK. this post turned out to be longer than I intended, but I hope it clarifies your situation and options.
I am not sure what you mean when you say:
I tested, if I install Cristal Reports 2008 Runtime for my new reports, the other reports in 8.5 version is not work correctly.
But here is a stab at an answer; Reports created in Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008, can not be run by CR 8.5 as the file format is too different and CR 8.5 does not understand it.
Next time, it will be helpful to describe what is happening. Saying "...not work correctly" is pretty lame.
A few things I want to clarify:
I can legally use Crystal Reports 8.5 developer software if I have Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008?
    - Yes, you can. What AG meant to say was that CR 8.5 can not / should not be used in .NET. Not tested, not supported. But you can install CR 8.5 and it will live quite happily side by side with Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008
If I can, please tell me a link to download Crystal Reports 8.5.
    - Not sure what you are asking for. CR 8.5 had to be purchased. As it has been out of support for over 10 years now, you can not purchase it any more.
Can I install Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime and Crystal Reports 8.5 Runtime on same computer and all the reports, designed in the two versions of Crystal Reports, to work correctly?
CR 8.5 and Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008 will work side by side fine. However as I mentioned above, reports created in Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008 will not work with CR 8.5. Reports created in CR 8.5 will work in Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008.
Another point. I notice you say:
    Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime
Very careful there as there is Crystal Reports 2008 (v 12.x) and the runtime would be Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime. There is a version of CR that bundles with VS 2008 (Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008) which as file version of 10.5 and thus a CR 10.5 runtime.
Finally, to what I think you are really after. Correct me if I am wrong:
    1) You have a customer that has a 3rd party app built using CR 8.5
    2) Neither you, not your customer have CR 8.5
    3) You want to build additional reports for the customer
If my interpretation above is correct, then you are probably out of luck. As already mentioned, CR 8.5 is not available for purchase. Versions of CR later than CR 8.5 create rpt file formats that CR 8.5 does not udnerstand.
    Your options:
    1) Create a new app in .NET2008 using Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio .NET 2008. You have to use the CR assemblies for .NET and you can use the CR 8.5 reports and any new reports you might want to create.
    2) Call sales (866-681-3435) and see if there is any way you can still purchase CR 8.5. Umm, don't hold your breath, but you never know...

  • Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 for Windows 7 - 64 bit

    Hi,
I am trying to install Visual Studio 2005 on a 64-bit platform (Windows 7). The version in about section reads Version 8.0.50727.42
     (RTM.050727-4200)
I need to install the Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2005 but the installer available is for 32 bit (VS80sp1-KB932232-X86-ENU.exe)
This does not install on 64 bit system.
How do I get Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 installed ?
P.S- On the network I work on, I can see a Windows 2008 (64 bit) system with the version of Visual Studio 2005 that reads  Version
8.0.50727.762  (SP.050727-7600) but I dont know how that was installed. Any help would be
    appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Wilson

    Hello WillisB,
I think your concern is the name X86 here. Actually Visual Studio is x86 version and we do not have a x64 version Visual Studio. So if you install Visual Studio on X64 version, it is also available. And when you see this page
http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=7524 You can see the system requirements:
    Supported Operating System
Windows 7; Windows Server 2008; Windows Server 2008 R2; Windows Vista
    Processor/RAM:
    Vista hardware requirements.
Required Software:  licensed copy of a Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1.
So please don't mind the name x86, the update can still be installed on Win 7 x64.
By the way, to install Visual Studio 2005 on Win 7, please check YiChun's post on this thread:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/f75d8ff2-bed4-473b-bc9c-6faf78c5d83a/installing-visual-studio-2005-pro-on-windows-7-pro-64bit?forum=vssetup
"To apply Visual Studio 2005 on Windows 7, please check the following points step by step:
    - Download Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and install it
Visual Studio® 2005 Express Editions Service Pack 1
Visual Studio® 2005 Service Pack 1 for Standard or above edition
    - Download
Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista and install it
    - When launch Visual Studio 2005, please run it with administrator privileges
(Right-click the icon >> "Run as Administrator")"
By the way, Visual Studio 2005 is out of our mainstream support, what about change to use some new version of VS? For example, Visual Studio 2013 Community version.

  • [IDCS3 WIN] Visual Studio 2005 SP1

    Hi Folks,
Has anyone had success using Visual Studio 2005 SP1 to compile and run CS3 plug-ins?
I'm having a troubles running ID CS3 plug-ins complied with Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and running under Windows Vista. I know SP1 is not officially supported, but I had it installed. Before I go through the downgrade dance, I would like to know if downgrading has a chance to solve this issue...
The plug-in runs fine on Windows XP SP2 on the machine on which I compiled the plug-in. The plug-in does not run on a Windows Vista machine on which no compiler is installed.
So, I have complied the BasicPanel project, and when run on a Windows Vista machine (of which I only have access to one), I get the following error (as seen in the Configure Plug-ins window for the plug-in). Plug-in Information window's Errors section reads:
LoadLibrary failed. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
After reading through a bunch of online information about this error, I'm still as confused as ever (I'm more comfortable with Mac than Windows). It seems like (maybe?) there might be an issue with the dlls that ID has installed versus the ones that my complied plug-ins are interested in. Maybe VS2005 SP1 has newer dlls than are installed in ID CS3 and that's where the trouble lies?
Can anyone here shed any light on this for me?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!
    -- Jim

    Hi All!
I create plug-ins for InDesign CS2 using Visual Studio C++ 2005 Expres Edition.
The plug-in runs fine in the computer that the VS C++ 2005 ED is installed.
But I get this error in computers where there is no VS C++ 2005 ED intalled:(xp sp2)
LoadLibrary failed. The application has failed to start ...
Thanks to your posts I come to the solution that installing,
Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) on the machine that has no VS C++ 2005 ED intalled, really solved the problem.
My Question is Has Any one solved the problem without having to install the Redistributable Package.??
I read something about the manifest but I'm confused.
Geting VS C++ 2003 really solves the problem, but It's hard for me to find I Licenced copy.
    Thank you!
