Visual Studio 2008 Dataset Designer

Hello,
I've noticing an annoying issue using VS2008 Final with ODT 11 beta2.
When I change any object from DataSet designer the VS2008 freezes for awhile. In the same time one Oracle (10g R2) process hits 100% CPU usage.
What does the designer do to consume so many CPU cycles?
My Oracle Server is installed on Linux (Dual Xeon, 4G RAM) and my Windows Vista is a Core 2 Duo 2G RAM.
Thanks in advance,
Pedro

Hi, I have same problem when create DataTable with join tables.( Where section is like "Where xxxx=yyyy(+)" )
When I create a DataTable on QueryBuilder,I should wait 3-10minutes.
The issue you describe should be fixable by adding filters. Go to the connection in server explorer and click the Filters tab. Set it up so only a few tables, views, procedures, packages and functions are shown in Server Explorer.
Then try to create the table adapter again.
Please make sure you are using ODT 11.1.0.7 (or later)This is not fixable for me.
So. I'm using 11.1.0.6.20 ODT, and 11.1.0.7.20ODAC.
( install 11.1.0.6.20 with ODT first, install 11.1.0.7.20ODAC( without ODT ) next )
I hope fix this problem ASAP.

  • New to Visual Studio 2008, not new to CR - but have  question

    Hi,
I started a position to build reports for a small company.  They use VS 2008 and Crystal 2008 (basic).  I am not new to Crystal Reports, been using it since version 4.0.  But I am new to integrating it into Visual Studio or using it to deploy reports via a web application.
I was able to create a dataset, connect Crystal to the Dataset in Visual Studio and design a report.
There are two tabs on the bottom of the Crystal Window - one is to the design side and one is to preview the main page of the report.
So here in lies the problem - when I go to view the results - there are none.  It is random or dummy data being presented in Visual Studio 2008.
I have scoured MSDN and SAP forums looking for help in this.  I see other posts that elude to the same issue, but --there has to be some way to see the data in Visual Studio.
Can someone explain to me why I don't see the real data from the dataset?   And more importantly where is the tutorials for Visual Studio 2008 and Crystal Reports 2008?
Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi,
I have also seen the same, that is report displays dummy data at my end however when you run the report from application you get the data that is when you pass the dataset to the report at runtime and not while previewing the report. I believe this is because when we use datasets to design a report we consider the schema of the report mainly not data.
If you mean that you do not get any data in the report then I would suggest you to use the below mentioned code to generate an xsd file, after filling up the dataset so that the report schema and the dataset schema matches.
    datasetObject.WriteXml("c:\\temp\\myData1.xml",XmlWriteMode.WriteSchema);

  • Sub report parameter prompt appears when running Visual Studio 2008 with Crystal Reports 2008

    Post Author: relliott
    CA Forum: .NET
If I build a simple Crystal Report that contains another simple Crystal Sub Report, the report will print preview fine in Crystal 2008.  The problem happens when add this report to a Visual Studio 2008 Web Application Project and I build and debug the application, the Crystal Viewer is prompting the user for the parameter used to link the sub report to the main report.  This should never happen as the user is not supposed to see this parameter.  If I type in some value for this sub-report parameter prompt, the Crystal Report Viewer gives an error message about not finding the field.
I was having the same problem in Vs2005 with Crystal 10 which is why I upgraded.  Business Object's official fix for this problem was published under their KB article number c2018840 and c2019047.  These hot fixes ended up causing general exception errors in Visual Studio so I scrapped these solutions.
Support had me install SP0 for Crystal 2008 (which did not fix it).
    Any ideas?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Bontrager,
Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
According to your description, I agree with pvdg42's suggestion, so I suggest you can try pvdg42's suggestion to install the version of
Crystal Reports 10.5 to check this issue again.
    Reference:

  • Crystal Report 2008 in Visual Studio 2008

    Greetings all,
I faced a problem here when trying to implement a web application on a Windows Server 2003 Release 2 64bit. The web application is developed using Visual studio 2008 on a development PC running on Windows XP 32bit. The application basically will pass some parameters to the crystal report before loading it for viewing. When this application is implemented on one of our client's server which is running on Win2003 32bit, it was perfectly fine. However, when this same application is implemented on a windows 2003 r2 server x64, it somehow prompted an error on top of the page (just before the report viewer object) of the below message:
This field name is not known. Error in File [temp_location_of_rpt]: Error in formula '{Vendors.company_code}={?Company_Code} and ' This field name is not known.
As the application was working fine running under win2003 r2 x32, I configured the x64 server to enable the 32bit IIS mode on the server by running the below command:
    cscript.exe adsutil.vbs set W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64 u201Ctrueu201D
Then proceeded with reinstallation of 32bit .net framework which surprisingly able to run the web application just fine (including viewing the report). When I deactivate the 32bit on the IIS (as the client needs to run the IIS on 64bit mode), the error appears again stating the formula error and field name not known when trying to load the report.
Anyone faced similar to this problem or any gurus and expers here can help? Would appreciate all help and guidance.

    Hi Brian,
I did try to create a report without any parameters passing through the web application, in which merely to load the report that connects to the database and grab records for viewing but to my amazement, the rows of record displayed is max up to 1 row (even there are many rows in the database table). I am curious if the problem lies in the connectivity issue between crystal and oracle. Now I am wondering if there is anyone out there who manage to get the web application (visual studio) interfaced successfully with crystal report to load data directly from oracle running on IIS 64bit? Or even any other database engine where the web application is running on IIS 64bit mode?
For the time being, I am re-constructing the report to use XSD for the intention to pass the data through dataset from the web application to crystal report. It's a time consuming but I guess that's the only way to work around it.
Would appreciate if anyone have any leads to get the crystal report working on IIS x64 mode.
    Thanks.

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 - dbf

    Hello,
I use both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on same PC. I can not work with dbf files (format foxpro2x, dbase IV) in VS 2005 and VS 2008.
Q1. Work Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 with database files - dbf (version foxpro2x, dbaseIV)? I get error -
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
or with dbf files work only Full version of Crystal Reports?
Q2. How re-install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. In setup Add/Remove features not exist Crystal Reports check box. I only Repair/reinstall all Visual Studio but after reinstall same error
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
    3. When I can open sample project with Crystal Reports which use Crystal Reports (dbf file) this error is displayed:
    Crystal Report Viever
    Failed to load database information
Details: The database DLL "crdb_p2bxbse.dlll" could not be loaded.
    4. I reinstal Crystal Report in Visual Studio 2005 - same error
    5. I apply hotfix Crystal Reports for .NET 2005 - SP 1 - same error
    Thank You
    Ludek

    Hi Ludek,
1-For dbase file to work you need have permission on database files for IIS as well as user accessing the database.
2-For re-install you need to insert the CD of visual studio setup then do custom install and then try to choose crystal reports for re-installing
3-The old viewer might cause the problem. In this case can you try connecting to a blank dbase file.
    and for such issues we have a special forum [here|SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio;
    Thanks,

  • Upgraded reports with left join no longer working in Visual Studio 2008

I've upgraded an ASP.NET project, which has lots of reports, from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. Any reports that  contain a left outer join relationship no longer work and it's driving me mad as I've spent hours on this now. Basically, the join fails because there's no rows on the right side of the relationship. I'm checking for nulls in the formula's and there's no record selection criteria. The report is pulling data from 2 stored procedures and a couple of tables. Any ideas?

    Hi Ludek,
Thanks for your reply. I've already applied SP1 and I assumed it worked, but looking at it in depth I'm not so sure. The installer runs and says its configuring windows etc and it l looks like it finishes, but it doesn't display a message to say installation was successful. When I look in the event log there are warnings during the install, I don't know if I should be worried about them. They are as follows:
Error in Template (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\Web\VisualBasic\1033\AdoNetEntityDataModelVB_ASPNET.zip), file (ModelObjectItemVB_ASPNET.vstemplate). Invalid template element (TemplateID) value (Microsoft.Data.Entity.Design.VSTemplate.ModelObjectItemVB_ASPNET)
Error in Template (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\Web\VisualBasic\1033\AdoNetDataServiceVBWebsite.zip), file (WebDataService.vstemplate).  Unknown attribute (_locID).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
As for the report itself, Its connecting to SQL Server and getting the data from 2 stored procedures and a few tables. There are no errors reported in the report, the only warning we have is when you close the database expert it says:
"More than one datasource or a stored procedure has has been used in this report. Please make sure that no SQL expression is added and no server-side group-by is performed." We've always had that message and it's never caused any problems before.

    Hi,
This issue might be caused because your VS2008 did not yet install BIDS report project. So, please open the New Project dialogue to check if there is Business Intelligence Development Studio component in the Project Types pane in your vs 2008. If it
is not there, install this component (can from the SQL server intallation client tools) so that you can open Reporting Services 2008 .rptproj files in the VS2008.

  • XI, Service Packs and Visual Studio 2008

    Hi
Sorry if these questions have already been answered but I have tried to search and get the answers myself with lots of link following and frustration.
We are developing a Windows forms application using Visual Studio 2008.
We need a good solid report tool for both designing and viewing reports based on SQL data.
Due to past exposure to Crystal, we have decided to use a Developer Edition of Crystal Reports XI we have had for a long time (think it was a promotional offering when XI was first released).
    The Help-About version is 11.0.0.1282
I have a couple of questions:
    1. What service packs can I apply to this build ? Looking on the download section of this web site, there are no updates available for XI (there are plenty for XI R1 and XI R2). Can I apply the R1/R2 updates to this build, if not can I upgrade to any of these builds ?
    2. I have noticed that even when installed after VS2008, the Crystal Version of the Viewer is still 10.5.0.0
I can created reports in XI and use them with this viewer but can I get a XI build of the viewer and other .NET objects. If not what are the options (apart from upgrading to 2008, this is price restrictive).
If there are already answers or knowledge-base articles containing the answers to these questions please just post the links, if not then some help would be appreciated as this whole thing is really confusing and I really don't want to go back to trying to use the Microsoft Reports package shipping with VS2008.
    Many thanks

    HI,
    First of all:
If you are planning to use VS2008 then you need to use CR 2008 SP0 or above to make it compatible.
    1. What service packs can I apply to this build ? Looking on the download section of this web site, there are no updates available for XI (there are plenty for XI R1 and XI R2). Can I apply the R1/R2 updates to this build, if not can I upgrade to any of these builds ?
Officially CRXI has reached the end of life cycle.
Upgrade from CRXI R1 to R2 is free. You need to download the CRXIR2 sp2 setup and install the complete product alogn with SP2 using the CRXIR1 keycode.
As stated you need to either use CR that comes with VS2008 or use CR2008 with SP0 or above. That is why you are unable to see the upgraded viewer. The other options would be to use VS2003 with CRXI and above or use VS2005 and CRXIR2 sp2 and above.

  • Crystal Reports Bundeled With Visual Studio 2008

We are currently using the version of Crystal Reports that comes with Visual Studio 2008.  Many reports have 5-10 sub reports.
We are running a ASP.NET application and this application passes to the reports a XSD File as the data source. It can take up to 5 minutes sometimes for a report to process.
    A couple of questions.
    1. Is there a concurrent user limit (I have read 3 or 5)
    2. Do the reports get queued up if more than 3 users are running a report?
    3. If we have sub reports does each report count as a "user" for example if we have one user on the machine and they run the report that has 10 sub reports, would that be hitting a user limit?
    3. Would upgrading to the 2008 version help us at all?
    Any other recommendations?
    Thank in advance!

    1. Is there a concurrent user limit (I have read 3 or 5)
    concurrent user limit is 3
    2. Do the reports get queued up if more than 3 users are running a report?
+ Yes. If you go to the Event viewer, you should be bale to see messages along the lines of; license not found, waiting x seconds+
    3. If we have sub reports does each report count as a "user" for example if we have one user on the machine and they run the report that has 10 sub reports, would that be hitting a user limit?
+ There are two distinct counts. Users, and print jobs. The print engine, can process 3 concurrent users. A print job, consists not only of the report, but also it's subreports. A page through is a print job. A search through the report is a print job. Print job limit is set in the registry and by default it is set to 70. The upshot of this is; if you have one report and one subreport in the detail section and the detail section has 100 records, you will run 1001 print jobs.
    4. Would upgrading to the 2008 version help us at all?
Probably not. The same structure exists in CR 2008. Now, you say that you pass an XSD file to the report. Are you actually passing and XSD or a Dataset?_
Finally, remember that if you have 10 subreport in a report, you are running 11 print jobs right there. If one or more of those subreports are in the detail section, the number of print jobs increases accordingly.

  • ODAC with Oracle 10g and Visual Studio 2008

    Hello-
Is the an ODAC version supporting Oracle 10g with tools for Visual Studio 2008? I've installed the ODAC 11.2 version for VS 2008, however the Oracle data source connection does not display for the Data Entity Model, only the usual SQL Server connections.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hello again-
First off, thank you for prompt reply. After poring over some of the postings, I'm gaining an understanding of when ODAC and the Entity Designer marriage came together and your answer solidified it.
My situation is I've developed an ODATA service with VS2010, Oracle 11g and ODTwithODAC112030 and everything works fine. I then deploy the service to the company's Windows 2003 server using Oracle 10g. I've also went ahead an installed the ODTwithODAC112030 on the server and copied the tnsnames.ora file into the oracle client's directory associated with the ODAC installation. When I query the Oracle database's metadata in IE, e.g. http://localhost:8050/DataMgmt/$metadata, a listing is displayed as expected; however, when I query a particlar database table listed in the metadata, an error is returned that the request could not be processed. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

  • Visual Studio 2008 & Oracle Problem

    Hi there,
I've been going through a bunch of legacy reports in a project I support, they had got out of date with the database, so I was verifying the database for each one.
They use data from an Oracle 10g database using a mixture of tables and views. The first report I came across that used a view gave me the following error:
"The database table 'HIGHEST_CLIENT_LOSS_V' cannot be found. Proceed to remove this table from the report?"
I don't want to remove the view as it is needed, so I went into the Database Expert to try and locate it. I opened up the ODBC connection we use to connect to the DB, and navigated to the required schema. Previously this showed Tables, Views and Stored Procs, but now only shows Tables and Stored Procs.
Has anyone else come up against this problem? Or have any idea what could cause it?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Team System Development Edition, Oracle 10g database and ODP.Net 10.2 client/ODBC driver.
I've never had this problem before.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
    James Simm

    James,
I'm not sure what Crystal functionality is available in VS but try right clicking on the datasource > options and in the Data Explorer section you can select whether to see views, SPs, or tables.
As well with the CR Designer there is a default limit of 8000 Database objects that CR will see. If that limit is reached then it stops dispalying objects past that limit. Try just selecting Views in the Options and if you can then see the views you can increase the default limit within the registry (*Note that it is always a good idea to backup the registry before editing). The key would be HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > business objects or Crystal decisions > Suite (version) > Crystal Reports > FetchOptions > NTablesMax

  • Using Crystal Reports with Visual Studio 2008

I have bin using visual studio 2008 for a while. I have just started using Crystal Report (which came with Visual studio) . I have an Access database connected with 3 tables, the first two table has two test fields and one index field, the third table has two text fields and two index field (of which one relates too one of the other tables).
I have generated a crystal report on one of the tables using the wizard. I have then placed the crystalreportviewer in a form (as a test). When I run the resulting form, all I get is the column heading label but no fields being displayed. There is data in the table. All I need to know is how do is make sure that the reports are accessing the data in the table, through the datasets???.

    Hi Leonardus
Please define "crash". What actually happens?
Did this ever work? E.g.; this started to happen recently?
Is this happening on your development system or QA or production?
See if enabling the option "Verify on 1st Refresh" will help.
Make sure you are using SP 1: Crystal Reports for VS 2005 and  VS 2008 Updates & Runtime Downloads
Ensure that the dataset is less that a couple thousand rows. Anything more than that will cause issues...

  • Issue loading Crystal XI reports with Visual Studio 2008

    Hi:
I'm converting a Visual Studio 2003 web application to Visual Studio 2008. The application has a lot of reports designed with Crystal XI and I cannot open then from VS 2008. I have tried two ways so far:
1_ Using Crystal 2008 Basic that bundle with VS 2008: Since the Data source for the reports is Oracle and that version of Crystal (10.5) doesnu2019t bring Oracle support then I keep getting the error related to u2018crdb_oracle.dllu2019 while exporting the report to pdf format.
2_ Using the Crystal XI assemblies: I keep getting an error stating that Crystal XI is not compatible with VS 2008.
What is the solution here to warranty a smooth transition? Some people are suggesting installing Crystal XI R2 but Iu2019m really not sure what to do. I also installed the run time version of Crystal Report 2008 SP1 (msi) but I didnu2019t find the way to add the reference to my VS 2008 project to try that way.
    Thanks in advanceu2026

Not just the runtime - where would you get it without breaking licensing? You have to have a valid copy of CR 2008 and install it. No worries about unistalling CR 10.5 - .NET 2008 will automatically use the latest files.
Re. Oracle support. That is correct. The crdb_oracle.dll does not ship with any versions of CR that bundle with .NET. You could go ODBC or OLE DB though.
    Not sure what you mean;
Can the CRRuntime_12.x be bundle to VS 2008 just like the Basic version does?
    But as I mentioned above, you must obtain a copy of CR 2008. A 30 day eval is available from here;

  • Crystal Reports Std | Visual Studio 2008

    Hi guys,
When creating charts in Crystal Reports Std (bundled with VS2008) is there any way to (programmatically or in the report designer) modify chart series names?
    Thanks,
    Stu.

    Hi guys,
I've found out that you need to upgrade to a later version of Crystal Reports.
My company had a spare license for CR2008 which included the update for Visual Studio 2008.
I also found that I had to create the report in CR2008 to gain access to additional features i.e. modifying series names for charts.
Then import it into my project.
    Thanks anyway,
    Stuart.
