VM Crash with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION - after Inst. of MS Upd. KB 912945
After installing Microsoft Update KB912945 on Windows XP SP2 EVERY CALL (!!!) of our java applet causes a crash of the installed JAVA VM 1.5.0_04 with the following EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.
After DEinstallation of Microsoft Update KB912945 everything is again correct.
Or: using an older version of JAVA VM (1.4.2 or 1.4.0) - also everything is ok - load the java applet functioned, even if the MS Update KB912945 is installed.
I am grateful for each information!
Here the details of the VM-Crash:

HOTSPOT JVM crash with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
From a C++ application, I use Invocation APIs to create a JVM and call some Java methods using JNI
I get a crash in jvm.dll with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
when I try to call "getFields" method of java.lang.Class in order to get the Fields of the java class
This method call, should return a java/lang/reflect/Fields[] on success
I am able to get the method ID of this method by using pEnv->GetMethodID(..)
However, when I call this method using CallObjectMethod(..), HotSpt JVM crashes with access violation with the dump given below.
Any clues on how to debug and find the problem?
Thanks in advance!
Sample code
jclass testerClass = pEnv->FindClass("com/test/Tester");
jmethodID cid = pEnv->GetMethodID(testerClass,"<init>","()V");
if(NULL == cid)
pEnv->ExceptionDescribe();
jobject testerObject = pEnv->NewObjectV(testerClass, mid);
jmethodID mid = pEnv->GetMethodID(testerClass, "getClass",
"()Ljava/lang/Class;");
jobject clsObj = (jobject)pEnv->CallObjectMethod(testerObject, mid);
pEnv->ExceptionDescribe();
jclass jCls = pEnv->GetObjectClass(clsObj);
jmethodID midGetFields = pEnv->GetMethodID(jCls, "getFields",
"()[Ljava/lang/reflect/Field;");
jobjectArray jobjArray = (jobjectArray)pEnv->CallObjectMethod(testerObject, midGetFields);
pEnv->ExceptionDescribe();

Safari and Mail.app crash with SIGSEGV after Monolingual / upgrade
In order to upgrade to snow leopard, I had to free a bunch of disk space. So, I foolishly ran Monolingual to remove unused languages. I don't recall exactly which I removed, but I do remember that I did not remove Japanese. I then upgraded to Snow Leopard, but now I have a Safari and a Mail.app that crash consistently with segmentation faults.
Mail.app crashes anytime I attempt to view a message with Japanese characters in it. I click the subject line, it tries to display it, and then crashes with a segmentation fault in Dispatch queue: com.apple.root.default-priority in the com.apple.datadetectorscore _FillNextTokenInCache method.
Safari crashes in HistoryTextCache caching from the method com.apple.SearchKit UniCharParserGetNextWord after a few pages (5m) of browsing. Doesn't seem to matter what pages I'm viewing. Although I can force it to crash just after successfully rendering a page with japanese characters by visiting such a page.
They repeatably crash the same way. Is there any way to fix this without having to reinstall the OS?I'm still having this problem. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
eric -
JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 crashing with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Hi,
the JDeveloper sometimes crashes. It happened to me about 5 times, and it had this scenario:
* I was running embedded oc4j in debug mode
* JDev got blocked for about 30 seconds
* it showed up and opened Monitors debug window. I noticed something like "deadlock breakpoint" in the log window
* I closed the debug window and hit F9 to continue running
* then after some time I've hit the stop button to stop oc4j. The JDeveloper disappeared immediately and hs_err_pid752.log file was generated, here it's contents:

JVM crashes with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Hi guys. I have a terrible problem. I am developing a J2EE app on a tomcat server (with eclipse).
I have seen that JVM dies when I am trying to debug a specific part of the program.
If it means anything I am including the error log here:

Airport crashes with Leopard after waking from Sleep mode
So I've always had airport issues (1st gen intel) and I was hoping Leopard might help, but now my airport shuts down every time the computer sleeps and it cannot be turned on. I have to shut down the comupter and turn it back on (restart doesn't work).
Any ideas?I spoke with Tech Support this morning. Apparently this is a known issue with Lion. I found it interesting that the rep insisted on saying that "it is the way Lion functions" instead of admitting that it is a GLITCH in the programming. He even said that it happens randomly and not on all computers and not all users experience this. That ought to tell you that it's a glitch. Anyway, there is a "workaround" which is what you do to put a bandage on a persistent wound that should really get surgically stitched:
You either have to log out every time you leave the laptop, or you have to change Energy saver preference to set the display to go to sleep AFTER the computer is set to log out (in Security preferences).
Here is the article that instructs us on applying the bandage::
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4135?viewlocale=en_US
Suffice it to say that Apple does not plan on stitching this one up any time soon.. -

Photoshop CS6 64bit crashing with big psb files right after opening
Hi everybody,
I'm having big trouble since CS6 and I couldnt find andy help anywhere, thats why i have to ask here.
Problem discription:
Opening an 7gb 8bit psb file in PS CS6 64bit: PS opens the file and crashes immediately after showing the content (layers and image). an small error message is shown (but there is no description)
Sometimes it opens the file, and i can work in it, and when i try to save it (in background AND normal), PS just disappears without error message
My work around: If i open another small jpg first (in first tab) and then open the big psb, i dont get this problem. but actually i never had it open for very long since im kinda scared to put some work into this unstable system.
When doing this in PS CS6 32bit version, its pretty stable and i have no crash.
Funny thing is also, that one time I created a big file from like 20big tiffs in 16bit and could save it. All the time PS was running while creating stuff from scratch i didnt crashed. But after I saved the file and restarted PS, then he couldnt handle the file anymore and crashed like i said before.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you,
Stefan

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEI have issues with PS CS6 and much smaller program files (less than 100mbs) but your problems may have less to do with programming bugs, many though there be, in PS CS6, than basic computer/OS issues.
Your files are so large (7gbs?) that you may be incurring problems with memory handling on your system due to hardware issues, OS issues or both.
In the real world most motherboards cannot stably use more than 16gbs of memory. Try removing RAM down to 16gbs and see if that improves stability. Google that if you do not believe me. You will not lose any performance, any may actually gain stability, going to dual channel memory using two instead of three slots.
Run a memory diagnostic, a complete version that may take several hours to run, to see if any of your RAM is defective. Before doing that make sure all your RAM modules are properly seated in their slots.
Install a second hard drive, offload as many files as you can to it and defragment your main hard drive (defragment it no matter what it reports about fragmentation).
In truth in the real world neither Windows or Mac OSancient can use more than 8gbs RAM--and motherboards rarely are stable with more than 16gbs of installed RAM-- so contiguous hard drive space remains important, particularly for very large files. Also regardless of how much hardware RAM you have Windows will preferentially default to the hard drive for virtual memory for some routine processes. If all your RAM is functioning well you may want to completely turn off virtual memory in Windows but overall machine stability may be problematic. Fortunately, unlike Photoshop, Windows will run stably with virutal memory on a secondary hard drive.
You have way too much RAM. Most studies show that Photoshop performance does not change once you get past just 4gbs of RAM, regardless of whether the OS or program is 32 or 64 bits.
So many Photoshop processes are single threaded so that regardless of how much RAM you have all the image data has to pass through one of the processor cores of your CPU. If you do not believe me look up those tests of performance with varying the RAM and varying the CPU: PS is a CPU dependent program despite Adobe's laudable but unstable use of the GPU to attempt parallel processing of image data.
All versions of Windows have finite resources for handling memory which files of your size may exceed. You should turn off any and all un-needed background programs and processes, including antivirus (unplug the network cable if you are paranoid). You may have to go to System Configuration to make sure memory/resource hogging programs don't load (e.g. anything referring to Itunes, Adobe reader, Microsoft Office). Look at the processes running with Task Manager and research what you can safely shut down.
Finally consider the fundamental cause of most repeated system crashes: failing power supply or failing hard drive (if your RAM passes tests). -
Adobe After Effects CS3 crashes with Codecs such as Motion JPEG and Avid DnxHD
Hey guys, I'm new here
I'm having a problem with After Effects CS3 crashing with .mov files (exported from Adobe Premiere) with codecs such as Motion Jpeg A and Avid's DnxHD. Its driving me crazy.
If I import a Motion Jpeg A file, AE crashes immediately. If I import a DnxHD file that works fine with Premiere, it seems to import ok. However, when I try to play it in AE it comes up as a plain white... thing. If I move the slider across it previews one or two frames before AE crashes. Its driving me crazy.
AE works ok with H.164 and animation files.
I'm reinstalled quicktime and Avids codecs, uninstalled ffdshow, disabled Open GL and multiprocessing, changed between 10bit and 8bit (whatever that is all about) with the dnxhd and I'm really stumped. If I can get Dnxhd working I'm fine with that. I thought I'd mention the Motion Jpeg A codec to see if they're a result of the same problem.
I've also tried Avid's RGB packed Codec with the same results.
I'm running Windows Xp 32 bit with 3gbs of ram, a GeForce 8600 gt with a Intel Pentium Duo Core Processor 2.00 GHZ.
Can anyone help me please?I'm mistaken, Animation files don't work either!
I tried that with no luck. I even tried a few more Quicktime codecs with the same results.
Only H.164 and some png compressed .mov files seem to work. Very frustrating.
I'm surprised thats the case - I am defintley due for an upgrade. Even though this system seems to work ok, struggling a little bit with HD .mov files but yeah, I've been planning a new system for a while. -
Spinning beach ball of death after crash with fans running full speed
I recently put my machine to sleep - came in the next morning to find it running all fans at full speed and frozen. Did a hard reset (power button in for 5 seconds waited 15 secs and then power on. It rebooted after a long re-boot period. Since then it has slowed down. Many apps take an age to open. Many freeze and there is the infamous SBoD. I have rebuilt permissions, installed 10.5.8 combo, done a permission repair from a separate firewire disk, run onyx - which at time never ends and has to be aborted. Activity monitor shows no exceptional activity when the SBoD is running. I had significant issues until last December when i did a clean rebuild and installation of leopard and put all essential software in from clean install disks - all in all had a pristine machine which was working perfectly until the week before last when the full fan and freeze crash occurred. I notice that it speeded up after the 10.5.8 combo install and permission rebuild from external disk but gradually slows down and gets increasingly unstable requiring forced reboots more and more often. I have no hacks or other background processes other than Virus Barrier 6 which ran perfectly before the crash.
As expected after running well at about 11:40 Mail slowed down and the SBoD started.
The console shows the following:

Anyone have trouble with IPad3 after installing OS6.1.3? keeps crashing
Anyone having trouble with iPad3 after installing OS6.1.3? Mine keeps crashing.
Mine seems to be just fine.
Try a reset,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back. -
Mail crash on startup after Lion upgrade (with my solution)
Hello,
I'm sure others will run in to the same scare I did when my mail would crash on startup after upgrading to Lion so I thought I would post my solution. It turns out a new mail app is installed with Lion but I had moved my previous mail app to a sub folder in my applications directory. After the upgrade the old version was not updated but the new version of Mail was installed in the Application root directory. Since my mail doc icon was still linked to my old Mail app it was crashing on startup. I deleted my old mail app, clicked on the new Mail app that was installed in my Application root directory, let the mail database update and all seems well now.
This is the second time I have been bitten by moving my Applications around. I have had a similar issue with iWork, and iPhoto. I guess the lesson is to leave your apps in your Application root directory.
Hope this helps someone else.That you can create a new user and it works for them suggests it's some sort of corruption in your user profile.
Have you tried repairing the SharePoint Workspace/Office installation?
