VMWare WLC setup question with dual VLAN at sites
Multisite in same town design.
VMWare WLC deployed at main site runs all remotes. (7 sites). Sites are around town and not on same campus. Flexconnect local deployed on Cisco 2702e APs. Setup for two SSID's, one for data connections, other for Cisco 7921g wireless phones. Each site has its own DHCP scope.
I tried to setup 2 seperate WLAN ID for each site however it does not like the reused SSID name. I do not want to have to setup 7 profiles on everyones laptop to go between buildings. Seen a post mentioning to use AP groups however the video link was removed so it went into a deadend.

so what I had setup before was under each WLAN, was each the interfce pull down to the interface vlan. I have now changed that to management and setup AP groups, each with the site's data and voice vlan defined under the AP group WLAN tab. So instead of the multiple SSID listed, now only two are listed.
I will have to take my test AP out to one of the other sites and move it to one of the new AP groups but this appears to be working on my current group I am testing from.

Dual screen setup question with G4 17" and 23" Cinema!
I have a 23" Cinema display connected to my G4 17" laptop. I can't figure out how to run an Aperture slideshow on the 23" screen when hooked into my laptop and leave the main screen intact on the 17". It seems to always run on the laptop screen regardless of what settings I have used. The 23" works great in every other situation with Aperture.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mac OS X (10.4.3)I guess you have to set your 23" display as your primary display in System Preferences (dragging the Finder menu bar onto your 23" display) .
This might interfere with your wish to "leave the main screen intact on the 17". -
Dual SSID (with dual VLAN) on Cisco AiroNet 1130

I need some major help in figuring out how to change our wireless setup. Currently, we have 2 Cisco AiroNet 1130 WAP's in the office that go directly into the 2 POE ports on our Cisco ASA 5500. These WAP's have 1 SSID and are using WEP for security. After demonstrating the flaws of WEP to my boss, he has agreed that we should use something more secure and I've suggested WPA. We want visitors to our office to be able to hop on our wireless but on a separate guest SSID with WEP.
I'd like the internal SSID to route to the ASA and take the default route to the internet (it will be our new fiber connection once it's installed in a couple weeks). The default route is whichever connection is working since our ASA 5500 will fail over when it detects an outage.
I'd like the guest SSID to route to the ASA and then go over our existing cable connection. This connection will be our backup once the fiber connection is installed. Since we won't be using it very often, but will be paying for it, I advised that we send all guest wireless traffic over this connection since 50/5 is plenty for guests.
I have no idea how to create a VLAN and implement it but I can generally figure things out with a little help. The current SSID (which will be the internal SSID) has no VLAN. We do currently have a few VLANS on our network, one for voice (.42) and one for data (.100) and the default (.0). What device to I create the VLAN on (Cisco 5500?) and how to I setup the WAP? I need very basic instructions to start and I'm also trying to do this without causing downtime if possible.
I've attached a diagram of what it should look like. Red indicates our internal network and Blue indicates the guest network. I can send screenshots as well.

Converting old 1240AG setup to VMware WLC and setup question
I am working on trying to convert a 10+ year old deployment of Cisco 1240AG's into newer 2702e with Central controller via VMWare WLC 8.0. I have 4 sites which used to get DHCP via local request. I need to verify I have read correctly that my controller will need to have an IP address interface from each of the 4 sites in the DHCP vlan to be able to hand out IP address.
If the controller does require the IP address and interfaces, will the deployment of a backup WLC also need IP address in same range/Vlans or does it duplicate the settings of the Primary WLC?

If you are doing FlexConnect Central Switching on your WLAN for these sites, yes you should have dynamic interface assign to given subnet for each site. If you are doing FlexConnect local switching, then you do not want to have dynamic interface on given subnet (since traffic terminate locally at branch, so you can have a dummy interface on your WLC)

If both primary & backup WLC will be online, then you cannot have same IP address, but can assign another IP on the given subnet to the secondary WLC dynamic interfaces (in case of FlexConnect Central switching)

I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN . the WLC are providing the HQ and one of the Branches the Wireless services .
Am using all the available 9 SSIDs at the HQ , and am using only 4 of it at the Brnche.
The problem that i have are happening only at the Branch office as i cant room between the SSIDs within Diferent VLANs but i can do it with the one that pointing to the same VLAN. Once the client ( Laptop/Phone ) connected to one of the SSIDs. it imposiible to have him connected to the other ones with Different VLAN. meanwhile, It says its connected to the other SSID but its not getting IP from that pool.

Tx Power Level 4 ..........Well you need to understand the behavior of h-reap or what it's called now, FlexConnect. In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

Display sleep with dual monitor setup
I'm running a 17" studio display and a 20" studio display as a two momitor setup on a dual G5 2.0. The menu bar is on the 17". Unless I have display sleep in energy saver set to never, the 17" will go to sleep at the interval set in the preference panel, even when the system is in use. So far the only way I've found to get the display back off sleep is to put the computer itself to sleep - keyboard shortcut or by using the power button on the 17" and then wake it up.
I think this only started with 10.4.6. I can't upgrade to 10.4.7 yet - I run Avid Xpress Pro on the system and 10.4.7 gives dongle trouble. I've thrown away preference files, set and reset the sleep parameters. As it happens, I've had to reinstall the system a couple of weeks back, but the 17" studio still goes to sleep when it shouldn't.
The problem doesn't occur if the menu bar is on the 20" cinema display, but that's not the way I want it.

screen in order to view the image on that screen.
Wierd, I have my dock on the left side of my main screen... which is to the left of my secondary screen. Perhaps you cannot have the dock in-between screens?

I find it usable but I'm also only working with TIFF files (my camera is not supported). I am also pretty strongly thinking about going with the X800xt card, which should be at least twice as fast. Some operations (like a lot of Spot & Patch repairs combined with Shadows/Highlights) do make things a bit laggy.
I also have the 256MB version of the 9800, which I think helps with some of the larger images and operations. -

i am trying to use a custom LoginModule in conjuction with the setup procedure in your "J2EE Security in Oracle ADF Web Applications" white paper. Have you done this before? can you provide roadmap for additional/alternate setup steps needed to use a LoginModule?

please refer to the OC4J security documentation which si a part of the Oracle Application Server documentation that can be looked up online here on OTN. Custom LoginModule configurations require OC4J 9.0.4. In addition, this feature also only works with the jazn-data.xml provider and not with OID.
From the perspective of this whitepaper, the LoginModule will be used by the OC4J container to authenticate users and thus should not require any change in teh paper.
I haven't yet had the time created an example and document that showcases how to do this. Hopefully christmas will give me some rest to look into this.

but I find out that RV042G only have port based vlan seems like same in network but separate multi vlan
any other suggestion like RV220w with multi vlan in different network
what I want to do is dual band network and create vlan network ip by myself same as RV220w

ThanksRV042G does not support tagged VLAN. What you need is a Cisco RV320 or a Linksys LRT224.

Hi, I will implement a WLAN network with AP1130AG and WLC 2125. If I understand right the whole traffic to/from the APs (data + management) will be first encapsulated in a LWAPP tunnel to/from the WLC ? Then, the WLC will forward the different traffic VLANs via a 802.1Q trunk to the network. Is it correct ? If so, the WLC is a true single point of failure ! What will happen if the WLC get out-of-service ? What is the impact on existing client sessions and new ones ? How will a redundant WLC 2125 work with the primary (active/standby with HSRP, load balancing)? What are the best practices in such a network ?

In the WLC world this is how an AP is covered in case one WLC fails. It is not without some "downtime" in case of failure but both Controllers are active. You have to keep in mind that an AP can only be registered to one WLC at a time so this is the best that you can do :) When one WLC fails the AP then has to re-register with the backup, this is not a completly seemless process.

I want to setup a VLAN to segment a subnet for security reasons.
The difficulty is I want both VLANs to use the same gateway. How do I do this?
I thought I would just create the 2nd VLAN and then assign the port of the gateway both VLANs (PVID); have the two VLANs use the same port for the gateway, but I do not see a way to assign more than 1 VLAN to a port. (multihome the gateway) If that is not the case please let me know how to accomplish this.
So ... I thought maybe I would phyically connect the gateway with 2 ports, but that doesn't work. The VLAN 2 doesn't communicate with the gateway. (I think this is because the MAC address of the gateway is in the switch, and the switch is sending the return traffic on the other port, so maybe I create a LAG with both ports, but that seems over engineered for what I want to do.)
What am I missing here, please help
BedrockIt is not possible what you want to do. If you want to connect both VLANs through a gateway (i.e. a router) you must use a VLAN router, i.e. a router which supports multiple VLANs and 802.1q. With a VLAN router you can route between VLANs. But for this to work you must use different subnets on each VLAN, e.g. 192.168.10.0/24 and 192.168.20.0/24. Of course, each VLAN subnet has it's own gateway IP address inside the subnet which will point to the same router. So this kind of setup only depends on the capabilities of your router. If it is a VLAN router, set up a trunk port and add all necessary VLANs tagged to this trunk port. Make the same setup on the VLAN router and configure your inter-VLAN routing and filtering.
If you want to use the identical subnet in both VLANs and use the identical gateway IP address in both VLANs then you need something like a transparent L2 bridge/firewall which you would have to configure how to forward traffic between each segment. The bridge would only pass traffic from each VLAN to the gateway and not to the other VLAN. But here again, the detailed setup depends on the device you put in.
Bottom line: the SRW224P is a L2 managed switch. You can set up VLANs but each VLAN is fully separated unless you add another device which manages the interconnection. -
Trouble with Neo4 Platnum and AMD X2 with dual channel memory
I just installed an X2 3800+ in my Neo4 Platnum board. The board had a 3500 in it and ran fine. When I installed the X2, the machine will no longer POST if the memory is in the dual channel mode. I flashed to the latest BIOS (1.8) and it still does not work. I am using 2 Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5 Dimms each at 512MB. The PC POSTs fine if I place both modules in the Green slots. It does not work with 1 in green and 1 in purple (with either Dimms1-2 or 3-4). Has anyone else seen this?

Your last post help me understand your situation a bit better. Here are some questions for you:
1- On your old system did these memory sticks work fine has a dual channel pair? Were these 2 memory sticks bought has a dual channel rated matched pair?
2- In your own words give me your definition of POST?
3- In your own words give me your exact detailed rendition of what happens when you try to post with dual setup. (How far do you get? Where does it hang up?)
4- Can you access your BIOS if booting with only one memory stick? If so, this is only for testing purposes, set your memory as 2.5,3,3,8, and 2T and add 0.05 volts to both your CPU and memory recommended voltages. Save, exit, and then shut down your system. Re-install the second stick of RAM in a proper dual channel slot. Re-boot and see what happens. If successful posting and booting in dual channel with this BIOS config go back to your BIOS and tighten your board and memory timings one at a time until you ID the perfect BIOS config for your CPU and RAM. Do the same with your CPU & RAM voltages.
AMD CPUs encompass their own memory control devices. There might just be enough variance between your older & newer AMD chips to reject dual configuration. If this is the case you may be able to correct it by using step for above. If this does not work, you sould borrow some suitable and proven dual channel memory sticks from a friend to see if the will work in your rig as dual channel?

WLC 2504 problems with one IP address range
I am having an interesting issue configuring a new 2504.
How it is setup:
Port 1 management with vlan tagging on vlan 111
Port 2 trunking with ap-manager2 on vlan 3, 102 on vlan 102 (Not ap-manager), and 1001 on vlan 1001.
All of the vlans have distinctive and unique IP ranges. Vlan 111 is running 172.16.128 /20, 102 is 172.19.252 /23 and vlan 1001 should be running 172.17 /16.
Here is my problem. I can setup all of the dynamic interfaces on the appropriate ip ranges, but for some reason when I configure the 1001 vlan dynamic interface with the /16 address space, I lose connectivity to the GUI managment interface. I have to go in through the CLI and remove the interface or change the IP range. I have tried other /16 address space on that vlan and do not have a problem with them. the 172.17 space appears to be the only one that will not work.
I have attached the config from the controller (Minus some site specific stuff like the SNMP community and wpa stuff.) The config is using a 172.20 /16 right now on the 1001 interface so that I could get into the controller and download the config. It should be 172.17 /16. The acutal IP info should be 172.17.4.253 255.255.0.0 172.17.0.254
My computer is on the 1001 vlan and I have verified the IP is not in use and am using the same subnet, gateway etc as I am trying to configure the wlc with.
Switch config:
Port 1 is plugged into g0/2 with the following config
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,3,102,111,1001
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast
Port 2 is plugged into fa0/47 and just has switchport mode trunk.
How can I get the interface to work with the proper IP range for vlan 1001?I finally had a chance to fiddle around with this issue again and have some more information on the problem. It appears to not be an issue with the IP address, but rather with the VLAN. The 172.17.0.0/16 subnet is on VLAN 1001 which it appears the WLC does not care for. This problem is repeatable on the following versions of code that I have tried:
7.0.220.0
7.1.91.0
7.4.110.0 (Not in use for production until we upgrade from WCS to Prime.)
Any thoughts? Moving the 1001 VLAN to another number would be a HUGE undertaking so if there is not an answer within the firmware on the WLC, I will have to bridge two VLANs with bpdufilter enabled... Not my first choice for sure... -
AP groups with same vlans , same ssid but different subnet.

I have a Cisco Flex 7500 in my datacenter and I need to connect 100 sites , each site with 2-3 APs , each side has its own network and is independent of other sites , the site only need to comunity locally and do not need to access any centralized applications.
I am trying to achieve this by Creating 100 different AP groups and assiging 2-3 AP in each groups for each branch, I will achieve WAN failover resiliency by creating flexconnect groug , the issue I am facing are as below .
1.Since all the sites has same setup , the AP and clients on all sites are in vlan 2 , so when I try to create 2 or more AP group with same vlan, it restricts me of doing so , I cannot create diffrent AP groups mapped to same Vlan .
2.If I keep the APs and Clients in the same subnet , I dont think it should be a problem , but I need your second opinion.
to give you an even better picture , look at the topology enclosed , and my question is if both STAFF and STUDENT APs are in same vlan but in 2 different broadcast domain , how would I create the AP groups.

10.1.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.1.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
SiteB - 10.2.1.0/24 - vlan 2
10.2.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.2.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
both the sites will have a single ssid "XYZ" and will switch locally only.
howin my understanding the way I will deploy this is as below
1.I will create WLAN with ssid "XYZ".
2.I will create 2 AP groups lets say "Site-A" and "Site-B"
3.I will map the APs in site A to AP group "Site-A" and APs in Site B to "Site-B"
4.I will create 2 dynamic interfaces one for each AP group , now this is where I am facing problem , when I am creating dynamin interfaces , I need to specify the subnet and vlans when creating dynamic interfaces , since the vlans used is same on both sites , its not letting me create 2 interfaces with same vlan id.
in my understanding HREAP is only majorly used for WAN failover and local authentication so I am not concerned about that right not , my prime work is to udnerstand the AP group and working.
if you still need print shot let me know I will have to go at site.
also validate if my thinking is right on the 4 steps I have mentioned above , I am new to wireless and whatever I have learned I have learned in last 10 days .

Redundancy with dual nic servers
Hi I have 2 11500's configured with box-to-box redundancy. I have a number of app servers each with dual nic's (which are Teamed) and which are connected directly to the CSS's. Nic 1 in each goes to the master CSS1 and is therefore live. Nic2 goes to standby CSS2.The CSS's are connected two 4500 switches to the public.I am monitoring the links to the 4500's,if i switch off the master CCS1,we fail over and the servers all connect via nic2 to the new master CCS2. But when the link to the 4500 from the CSS1 Master goes down the CSS'S failover but the nic2's do not connect to the CCS2 because Nic 1 in each server has not failed ie they still see CSS1 as up. Is there a workaround to this problem ?

JI know of no way to link CSS interfaces so that if the uplink goes down, the the other ports are shutdown. There may be another way to configure the adapter teaming or failover on the server side. I know some OS's send out test frames from one adapter to the other to verify network integrity.
What I'd recommend is that you setup a VLAN on your 4500's for the server's physical connections, and uplink that to a "backend" interface on the CSS. This can be done with the CSS in either a router or bridge configuration, but I'd recommend router mode. -
I am trying to setup VPN with QuickVPN
Hi I am trying to setup VPN with WRVS4400N and Quick VPN on client side. I am fairly new to VPN and did some research and looked through the manual but can't seem to get it to work so far and from what I noticed many people are having this problem. So hopefully someone can tell what the problem is or at least point to right direction on solving this.
Basically it gives the "Failed to establish connection" generic error, shows it almost instantly..
It also showed the certificate error before but then I read about putting it in the installation directory and it stopped showing it, and whats strange is later I removed it but it doesnt show the error any longer, so don't know if its caching it somewhere or what can be going on...
In effort to look for answer and test things out I tried to connect to another location and setup a WRV200 router, I also get the same error but not instantly, it even shows "Activating Policy" but then doesn't go farther and shows the generic error...
Also with this setup strangly it always shows the certificate error, no matter if I put one in directory or not... Even tried to name it as the WRVS4400N certificate name...
Anyway VPN IPSec is disabled, and Client Accounts are configured and changed password several times to make sure its correct, VPN Passthrough enabled on all 3 options.
I tried to disable Windows Router, I also have a router in place do I possibly need to open some type of ports for the QuickVPN client?
Don't know yet whats going on if I am missing something or if there is some problem that needs work-around but if you know the answer or guesses of answer please let me know.Hi Aleksandr,
