Voice activated dialing

Just got my iphone which synchs nicely to my cars bluetooth. Is it possible to set up voice activation dialing to save you looking at phone to dial numbers
thanks
John

That is one of the only feature I missed from my Window Mobile phone (no boos ... I have drunk the Apple Kool Aid but was stuck with Verizon!). Unfortunately the iPhone does not support voice activated dialing. I did see an app called SpeechCloud Voice Dialer that is FREE but only gets 2.5 stars. I have not tried it yet.
The other program I miss is Windows Mobile Search. It had great directions and proximity search for anything ... movies, gas prices, etc. (again no boos). I haven't found one that does all of these things in one app.

How to I completely disable the voice activated dialing on my Blackberry?

One thing you might try is going to System Preferences/Sound and changing the output from Internal Speakers to Line Out or Digital Out. Line Out would be for headphones. I assume it keeps this setting after a reboot but you should test it.
Disabling the sound will also disable all warning sounds.  Those can be pretty useful.

  • "Cannot play media while voice activated dialing is active"

When i downloaded the youtube app today, i wasnt able to play it, and the notification came up that it "Cannot play media while voice activated dialing is active". The same thing happened when i tried to listen to music, and when i recieve a call it only vibrates, due to the fact that voice dialing is on. However, when i try to open the voice dialing app, it wont open, not even when i press the convenience button. Ive also changed the options on the voice dialing options and disabled everything i could, but the same message comes up. Its quite annoying, and when i phoned vodafone they told me they had no information on this matter... great help! so id be glad if someone could figure this out for me. Im a bit of a technology-**bleep**, so it might be the easiest thing ever, but im clueless!

  • IPhone - voice activation feature.

At Apple retail stores, none of the employees could tell me if voice activation dialing will be a feature of an upcoming iPhone model. Does anyone out there know?

Ahh, the fact of the matter is that most people are replacing their regular cell phone with an iphone. So WHY would this option not be a planned feature? It's more than a 'convienence', it's a down right safety hazzard!
I fully expect a $400 'phone'(or what ever you want to call it) to have this simple 'hands free' safety feature already working. With the added hazzard that this in NOT a tactile phone, you can't feel the buttons to dial, so you HAVE to look at it, WHAM your dead!
Of course the best way is to not call while driving, but really, if my previous $120 Motorola SLVR could do it how much more so should the $400+ iphone?

  • Voice Activated Dailing

Will an iPhone based Voice Activated Dialing be available soon? The AT&T system is clunky and difficult to deal with. Voice Activated Dialing is they only application that I miss from my Motorola Razor. The iPhone is very visual and difficult to use while driving without Voice Activaed Dialing.
    IMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    IMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    IMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    IMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    IMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you absolutely need Voice Dialing don't get a different phone. The AT&T provided Voice Dialing feature requires that you do the following:
    1. Remove the iPhone from your pocket or holster.
    2. Press the Home button to wake up the phone.
    3. Slide the Arrow to Unlock the iPhone.
    4. Point to the Phone icon (more steps if you aren't already on the home view) to activate the Phone interface.
    5. The next step could be several points of the finger depending on how you have configured your iPhone.
Option A. Select Favorites and select your favorite for the AT&T voice dialing feature "*8" if you previously set this up.
Option B. Point to the Keypad Icon to bring up the keypad and dial the voice dialing option by pressing "*8".
    6. Speak the pre-setup voice dial name (this is done by entering or importing phone numbers and names from Outlook).
    7. Hope that the Voice Dialing understood what you said.
Basically if you need this feature because you don't want to have to remove the iPhone from your pocket while driving just to dial; forget the AT&T Service it *****.
What is needed is for the iPhone to support a native ability to allow voice dialing. It should work by just going to the Keypad icon and then dialing without entering a number; if you are manually using the iPhone or you should be able to just initiate a call by pressing the Talk button a Bluetooth headset and speaking the voice dial name that you want.
The iPhone is a dangerous device to use in a moving vehicle. Voice Dialing is a must for a device that supports Bluetooth whose main benefit is the ability to use it with your vehicle.
This is just my opinion; I could be wrong. But considering that I've been in the software development business for 25 years specifically in telecommunications based products it is unlikely that I am wrong.

  • Current Android 2.1 OS Not Compatible with Bluetooth Voice Activation

After spending two frustrating days trying to make Bluetooth Voice Activation work with the HTC Incredible Android, I found out from HTC technical support that the Android 2.1 OS is not compatible with Bluetooth Voice Activation.  Supposedly changes to the operating system will correct the problem, but you're out of luck until then.....whenever 'then' is!  It appears that Verizon and HTC  have not choosen to include that information in their marketing material.  A bit irresponsible, especially if you live in a state that requires handsfree operation of your phone in an automobile.

It seems that Moto has a workaround in 2.1 on the Droid X:
I was just at VZW store this morning looking at the Droid X (which is currently at 2.1), and specifically asked an employee about this and he showed that it's solved on the Droid X -- he paired his bluetooth and demo'd handsfree dialing it for me.
Unfortunately, the Droid X is probably too large for me or my wife and the Droid Incredible doesn't have a solution for bluetooth handsfree dialing (yet).

  • 6233 Voice activated calls

    Hi,
The voice activated function on the 6233 works quite well and recognises most of the names in my phone book. The system behaves inconsistently when a contact has more than one number linked to them.
For contacts with only one telephone number, the system dials their number within a second of me selecting their name entry.
However, for contacts with two or more numbers such as Mobile and Work, I choose the number to dial (after selecting the right contact) and have to wait for 6 seconds for the system to display the "calling...." screen. Is there a short cut? Why is there such a long delay for contacts with multiple phone entries?
I have version 4.91 of the software.
    Thanks
    David

Actually, the 6233 DOES have voice recognition. The phone will recognise the name you say and find the contact for you without you having to record voice tags. Just press and hold down "Names" and speak after the beep.

  • Nokia 7100 Voice activation

I have just bought the Nokia 7100 Supernova - I wanted to stay with Nokia because of the voice activation and having a hands free kit in the car. Firstly I can't figure out how to set up voice activation & secondly, although I have twinned the phone with my active device in the car & they look connected, when I try & make or receive a call nothing happens - usually the radio cuts out & the voice comes through the speakers & this isn't happening - help!!!!!

    1. In the standby mode, press and hold the right selection key or the volume down key.
A short tone sounds, and Speak now is displayed.
    2. Speak the name of the contact you want to dial. If the voice recognition is successful,
a list with matches is shown. The phone plays the voice command of the first match
on the list. If it is not the correct command, scroll to another entry.

  • How do I unlock voice activation on iphone

How do I unlock voice activation on iPhone 4

Hi Kilted Tim, thank you for your quick response.
Yup, I've had the unlimited plan for about 4-5 years, and I do everything I can to keep from losing it, for obvious reasons.
As you advise, I've been using the iphone in airplane mode with wifi activated which works fine when I am in wifi range. But of course when I'm out and about I want to use my data roaming for internet, maps, skype, whatever so I take it out of airplane mode.
The trouble is that I get incoming calls and am charged international rates even when I dont answer. I havent looked lately but I think AT&T charges me for one minute even for unanswered incoming calls.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks!

  • HT1438 i keep getting SIM locked message on my iphone 4s and I need to unlock it please please can someone help me? The voice activation is on and when I type in what I think is the code It wont even put in the numbers

I am trying to unlock my SIM from my iphone 4s, as I am getting a mesage SIM locked. How do I unlock this? Also I am typing in what I think my code is and it is not working. The voice activation wil not allow me to type in the numbers for some reason. I have turned it off and on about 7 times now. please please please can someone help me?

If you bought the iphone in the US and it is locked to a specific carrier, then you can't use a different sim (from another carrier).  Is this your situation?
Otherwise I'm not sure what you mean by "trying to unlock my SIM".  In which country did you buy the iphone?  Who's your carrier?

I tried this setup, Jeff... gets me to the login page fine... but doesn't seem to recognize any of my email logins (all which are virtual).
I have a website setup as MAIL.MYDOMAIN.COM... port 80...performance cache OFF... and pointing to /usr/share/squirrelmail. I tried these settings with OPTIONS-->WebMail both checked and unchecked. Doesn't seem to make any difference.
So, does the problem have to do with the fact that I have Mailstore partitions setup by domain, as per Alex's guide to Making Virtual Users?
As Alex mentioned, turn off the performance cache.
You can change the port in ServerAdmin to something
else (you mentioned 8010, which is fine).
You may need to create a seperate Site for Webmail if
    you don't have one already.
To take this a step further....
My preferred (non-SSL) setup is this:
    - Assuming you already have DNS of mail.domain.com
    - Create a site for mail.domain.com (port 80)
    - In Sites/General, port 80
    - In Sites/General Web Folder
    "/usr/share/squirrelmail"
    - In Sites/Options, turn off Perf Cache.
If you do the above, when you hit
    http://mail.domain.com
You will go straight to Squirrelmail without having
to add a /webmail to your url and without having to
    use a different port #.

  • 6233 voice activated dialling feature. TERRIBLE!!!

For the last 30 mins I have been trying to find a way of recording my own voice tags for voice activated-calling on my 6233. What a waste of time. I think it is ridiculous that Nokia has not included this feature and according to the previous posts they are not going to put it into an firmware updates. I still have my Nokia 6230i which I think I will start using again. There are things I like about the 6233 but there are to many glitches, also the font for the time whilst in stand-by mode not only looks terrible but is hard to read. What are the people at Nokia thinking? They have put a load of junk on to the 6233 and not put the useful stuff that was on the 6230i on it. I've used Nokias for 8 years and I am now seriously considering getting a Sony Ericsson next time I can get an upgrade. WISE UP NOKIA!!

The new voice recognition that appears in almost all of Nokia's latest products does have built-in training, called adaptation, which means over time and with use the accuracy should increase.
The trouble with speaker independent voice recognition is that for some people, the accuracy is good enough from the outset, but for others it is not. This is why adaptation is included in the Nokia version to help improve the accuracy - but it is hidden from the menus.
You can test this adaptation by using the voice dialler and if it gets the name or command correct, select that name or command. This tells the voice recognition to adapt to your voice. If you don't select, then it won't adapt.
If this is repeated for several names or commands, then the accuracy should start to improve.
Another problem is that sometimes people have strange names in the phonebook that can sometimes spoof the voice recognition - it is worth listening to any strange phonebook names using the "playback voice tag" just to make sure.
    Kludge
that's alot to do especially when you don't have lots of time on your hands. its kind of ridiculous IMO. if it wasn't like that then names wouldn't make a difference whether its french or spanish or transfered from your sim, that's the names that confuses the voice dialler and causes it to come back empty, with the wrong name or a list of names. a headache while driving.
    everything happens for a reason
