VPLS, EVC

Dear All,
We have network connectivity as in attachment but we could not make it work with the config below could you please help to advise ? Please note that our vpls network is working properly and we suspect the problem with "rewrite".
Regards, Pok.

rewrite ingress tag push dot1q 100 symmetric

PE02 A#
interface GigabitEthernet0/0/1
 description To-MX-PNHKT-CS01-Gi0/1
 mtu 4470
 no ip address
 negotiation auto
 cdp enable
 service instance 30 ethernet
  encapsulation dot1q 100 second-dot1q 30
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
  bridge-domain 111
 service instance 40 ethernet
  encapsulation dot1q 100 second-dot1q 40
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
  bridge-domain 111

I think you have confused things a bit.
So on PE1
you will add another vlan tag of 100 when traffic ENTERS the interface (Ingress).
This gets to PE2 (hopefully)
the process works in reverse. So you would need
encapsulation dot1q 30
rewrite ingress tag push dot1q 100 symmetric
Traffic will enter the service instance and dot1q tag of 100 will be removed.

  • VPLS TLS and EVCS support?

I have been trying to read the VPLS section on the following page to what versions of VPLS are supported.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps368/products_module_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801e5c06.html
    I have a few questions:
    1. What flavors of VPLS does Cisco support?
    2. For the config exmaple on that page, is it TLS of EVCS?
    3. Can I attach multiple vlan interfaces to a VFI?
    4. Related to last question, does the packet that enters the VPLS over the core maintain the VLAN header of is it stripped? I'll have more questions about this depedning on the answer I get.
    5. I am seeing conflicting reports in the forum and in the docs about which SUP card I need. What do I need to get my 6509 to work with VPLS?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    1. I apologize. I guess I should have been more clear. I understand which draft Cisco used, it was more around vlan based and port based implementations I've seen on other vendors.
    2. Sorry, I meant in the VPLS section. The section was a bit confusing saying where it kept mentioning the TLS and EVCS. But it never clearly showed which lines make it EVCS and which lines make it TLS. Are you saying that EVCS is actually just a reference to Martini?
    3. Thanks. I guess this means vlan headers are maintained across VPLS.
    4. I think I understand now. Mainly I was trying to see if Cisco's VPLS also did the same type4(vc-type vlan) and type5(vc-type ether) as they did with Martini. From what I iunderstand, Cisco's current VPLS is type4. Correct?
    5. So for VPLS, I need at least a SUP2 MSFC2 with OSM+. For Martini, if I have a SUP720-3BXL, what card can I use to support MPLS core interface? Will a standard GE card work?
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • EVC .. VPLS .. VS Type 4

    Dears
I have few questions regarding EVC and its assiciation with VPLS and would like your assistance please regarding them

    Many Thanks

    Hi Sandip
Many thanks for your detailed reply
1- The document is great and really helped
For QinQ method 2 (P.11-19), method 2 should be similar to figure 11-10 (P.11-28) however I believe there is a small mistake
For the direction EVC --> switchport
Packet received with C-VLAN 20 (encapsulation should be 20 and not 10) then bridge over brigde-domain 10 and at egress of switchport VLAN equals to that of bridge-domain (S-VLAN) is pushed
For the direction switchport --> EVC
C-VLAN Packets received on switchport trunk will have their outer vlan popped (vlan 20) and then bridged to bridge-domain 10. Packets will reach EFP port with only 1 VLAN (C-VLAN 20) and cause there is no rewrite tag operation
If my analysis is correct, then as mentioned encapsulation should be 20
    |||
2- If I understood correctly, behavior seems to look as below
For non EVC IOS VC type 4, incoming VLAN tag is removed and dummy tag 0 is added. On remote side this dummy tag is removed and VLAN configured on interface is added
For EVC & IOS XR VC type 4, dummy tag is added on top of incoming tag so packet is sent with both tags. With pass-through no dummy tag is added
    Thanks

  • Various VPLS Mode

    Hi,
I would like to know various types or mode of VPLS.
As per Cisco standerds its: Port mode and VLAN mode.
Now I would like to know if I can use the PE interface connected to CE as a trunk interface and carry all customer VLAN via that port? Instread of creating multiple subninterfaces of the interface and put them on different instances or VPLS instances?
Is there any good document, site or blog that shows various VPLS deployment mode along with VPLS redundancy scenarios?
    Thanks,
    Devang

    Hi Devang,
not sure if you are refrring to vc-types instead.
However you can use a trunk port for the PE to CE AC
    have a look at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/install_config/ES40_config_guide/es40_chap6.html#wp1460517
Or you can explore the EVC world (if you have the right hw) and have a more flexible approach.

    Hi Xander
First many thanks for your assistance
Have recheked CEs config and they are straight forward. [trunk interface allowing all vlans]
However I have added CE3/PE3 to topolgoy and results were somehow interesting
    CE1(ME3800) -- PE1 (ASR9K)  --- PE2 (7600) -- PE3 (7600) -- CE3 (ME3800)
                                                                    |
                                                            CE2(ME3800)
Now both CE1/CE2 can ping CE3 but still no communication between CE1 & CE2
Dont know what could be the difference between CE2 & CE3. Only thing that comes to my mind is that with CE2, PE2 is directly connected to PE1. Dont know if this could be a problem or not as in this case MPLS label should be pop but still there is VC label
Another thing I removed "rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric" from all PEs cause with this command CE3 (only) was receiving BPDU with different VLAN !      [dont know if this behavior is normal or not]
    interface GigabitEthernet4/2
    no ip address
    speed 1000
    service instance 55 ethernet
      encapsulation dot1q 55
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric

*Oct 24 21:57:15.158: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Vlan55, changed state to down

    Once I remove it
    UPE-42# *Oct 24 21:59:23.638: %SPANTREE-2-UNBLOCK_CONSIST_PORT: Unblocking GigabitEthernet0/23 on VLAN0055. Port consistency restored
Now what do you think ?  :]
    Many Thanks

  • STP over VPLS

    Hi Everyone!
I have a scenario of 3 PE routers with full mesh VPLS Pseudo-wires configured over it. If you look into the design, I have connected two switches Sw1 and Sw2 with the PEs R2 and R3 respectively. Considering that the VPLS cloud is operating correctly, I have connected a CE switch [Sw3] with Sw1 and Sw2. Now, the issue is STP over VPLS. Without having STP running inside the VPLS cloud, it's causing loop all over the ring.
In order to avoid loop, I have run PVST+ on all the three switches but the PEs are not running STP as I believe that the BPDUs are to be transparently forwarded through the VPLS pseudo wires. But, i'm not really sure why i'm getting PVST_Inc error on both Sw1 and Sw2 for the links that are connected with their respective PEs. Any response regarding this will be highly appreciated.
For your reference, network diagram is attached below:
    Thanks!

What kind of PE routers do you have? Are they ASR9k  running EVC/EFP on switch facing interfaces?

  • STP in H-VPLS with MPLS Access

    Hi,
My customer is on H-VPLS and many sites are dual homed to different UPEs. I want to avoid any layer 2 loop in this switched HVPLS network. As the same set of MAC can be learned by two different UPEs.
Has anyone implemented STP in HVPLS domain in MPLS cloud ?
    Thx,
    GP

    Hi Gaurav,
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do it. I described below some solutions hoping at least one of them could help you:
1- To be able so differenciate the native VLAN from customer one's and to do that for several customers, UPE need to implement EVC/EFP (7600 with ES LC). This way you could do BPDU relay between the two UPE's per customer and send to the NPE's via the PW the customer VLANs. Only  MST is supported and STP must be disabled on the UPE's
2- Transport customer BPDU end-2-end so he will see the VPLS domain as a single switch. It's usually not a recommanded approach because instability in one site can impact the other ones. Also you can't manage your blocked links per site as all sites share the same STP domain. Last thing is VLANs must match on all sites.
3- Last option, I have in mind is to develop some EEM scripts which will break the loop. For example, a script on UPE2 shut its AC unless the PW between UPE1 and NPE1 is down.
The following Cisco book explains how to use EEM to provide redundancy between DC connected via VPLS:
Interconnecting Data Centers Using VPLS (Ensure Business Continuance on Virtualized Networks by Implementing Layer 2 Connectivity Across Layer 3)
Not sure if it's usable in your environment so.

  • Performance end to end testing and comparison between MPLS VPN and VPLS VPN

    Hi,
I am student of MSc Network Security and as for my project which is " Comparison between MPLS L3 VPN and VPLS VPN, performance monitoring by end to end testing " I have heard a lot of buzz about VPLS as becoming NGN, I wanted to exppore that and produce a comparison report of which technology is better. To accomplish this I am using GNS3, with respect to the MPLS L3 VPN lab setup that is not a problem but I am stuck at the VPLS part how to setup that ? I have searched but unable to find any cost effective mean, even it is not possible in the university lab as we dont have 7600 series
I would appreciate any support, guidence, advice.
    Thanks
    Shahbaz

    Hi Shahbaz,
I am not completely sure I understand your request.
MPLS VPN and VPLS are 2 technologies meant to address to different needs, L3 VPN as opposed as L2 VPN. Not completely sure how you would compare them in terms of performance. Would you compare the performance of a F1 racing car with a Rally racing car?
From the ISP point of view there is little difference (if we don't want to consider the specific inherent peculiarities of each technology) , as in the very basic scenarios we can boil down to the following basic operations for both:
Ingress PE impose 2 labels (at least)
Core Ps swap top most MPLS label
Egress PE removes last label exposing underlying packet or frame.
So whether the LSRs deal with underlying L2 frames or L3 IP packets there is no real difference in terms of performance (actually the P routers don't even notice any difference).
About simulators, I am not aware of anyone able to simulate a L2 VPN (AtoM or VPLS).

  • Won't work with Sony VPL-PX20 projector

When starting up while connected to the projector the initial gray screen displays and the projector shows input, but as soon as it switches to the background picture during start-up the projector display goes black and displays "No Input".
    I've tried this with two different 15.2" Al PBs and the same thing happens, or doesn't happen as the case may be. (c;
I've test these two Al PBs with our three other projectors which are older Epson and InFocus models and they work fine. I've also tested the Sony VPL-PX20 projector with various other non-DVI Ti PBs and a Dell laptop and the projector again works as it should.
I know if I call Sony looking for support they will say it's an Apple problem and if I call Apple they'll say it's a Sony problem. The thing that makes me suspect it's an Apple problem is that this problem only presents itself on two similar PowerBooks that only really differ in age – one is new and the other is 8 months old. The projector works with other PBs, a desktop, a TV tuner and a DVD player with no problems.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be or how I might go about resolving it?
    Thanks. Chris

    Hi Kevin,
    Two suggestions:
    Make sure that the camcorder is connected to a power outlet, not running just on battery power;
As alluded to by thesurreyfriends, try a different FireWire cable. If you have a Rocketfish cable, it has been known to cause problems. I have a Belkin 9 pin to 4 pin (FW 800/400) which works perfectly with iMovie '11, using my older Sony DCR-TRV20E.

  • I'm no longer able to use the projector VPL-ES4 with win7, he accuses error frequency

I'm no longer able to use the projector VPL-ES4 with win7, he accuses error frequency.
Working at a university here in Brazil Unicamp.
Here we have several projectors model VPL-ES4, we were using this projector with win7 however a few days they all stopped to show the image of computers accusing problem in frequency, we made all the alternatives so that One can be reestablished TRANSMISSION signal however all were in vain, reading in many forums found equal to our cases and the solution presented was to use a computer with win98 and it really worked, but with the end of support for this version of the system we are failing to use it, I wonder how we can solve this problem and why even this ocrrendo.
I thank you in advance for help and attention

Yes. NVIDIA+CRT+VGA cable = bad EDID.
Here's what you can do. Fully remove the xorg.conf file. Regenerate them using nvidia-xconfig, Open the nvidia's GUI as root and just click "Save configuration", or something among those lines. Google your monitor's manual and find the RIGHT vertical and horizontal sync frequency ranges. After setting them in your xorg.conf log-out and log-in again. Go to the nvidia settings gui, you should be able to use a higher resolution.
I've tried this a few times, but always end up with a "Signal out of range".  I think the trick is finding the correct ranges.  My monitor is a Soyo Topaz S 24", and I can't find any official manual or specs online.  What I have found is this:
    http://www.thinkcomputers.org/old/index … ews&id=733
    That review indicates:
    Frequency: Fh: 30 kHz - 80 kHz; Fv: 50 Hz - 75 Hz
    So I set:
    HorizSync 30-80
    VertRefresh 50-75
Signal out of range, which is annoying because in order to fix it I either have to reboot using a live CD, mount the drive, or ssh into it.  Whoever started the trend of disabling ctl alt backspace to kill an xsession is not my friend...
Some other forum posts about this monitor indicate that there may have been two variants, but I can't find a different set of specs.

my problem is that when i configure VPLS according to CISCO-Documents, the VFI and L2 VCs comes up,
but i can't ping between end points located in Customer-Switches.
Is any problem with Hardware-Configuration, IOS or platform support ?
I have just studied the following link about this, but i'm not sure about that. (at least i can't believe that ! )

  • Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW10 Projector

My Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW10 makes this annoying buzzing noise when I try to turn it on, while the green power indicator light just flashes.  After the light flashes and the buzzing noise stops the green light turns to red but also the lamp/cover red light flashes continuously for a long period of time.  It does this everytime I try to turn it on.  I've had the projector for at least two years.  Any suggestions?

It might be time to change your bulb.
In the back of your owner's manual it should give a list of what the color and blinking of the lights means..
i.e- blinking red 5 times means bulb needs replacing etc (that's just an example)
I tried to write my signature here, but now I can't get the ink off my TV..

  • How to verify VPLS mac-address forwarding

I think VPLS know how to forward by mac-address. but how to verify it ?
for example I show mac-address vlan 100. But I can not find a command to verify How mac-address is forwarding ?

    Hi,
VPLS provides the medium to for a E-LAN, and in Cisco implementations, the MAC learning is not actually done by a VPLS instance.
This can be best explained by an example.
    PE(SW)-A ---- PE(SW)-B
    PE(SW)-C
Now these three PE nodes under VPLS, are only provided the medium to connect to each other using P2P PW forming a full mesh.
For simplicity you can assume they are three switches connected in the above manner using copper. So this copper connecitivity is provided by VPLS.
And at the end of the day the end nodes learn mac addresses using the conventional method of flooding and learning. So you wont find any VPLS specific commands to see what mac address is the VPLS instance flooding. As its only providing a medium for connectivty. And the flooding is done by the end nodes. as they treat the VPLS VC as one of the outgoing port.

Thanks a lot for the presentations Harot...
As I'm a bit new to MPLS technology, I have some doubts in my mind so far Layer 3 VPNs are concerned. Let's consider a typical Scenario :
    CE-->PE-->P-->P-->PE-->CE....
Could u pls tell me where MP-BGP runs (whether in PE to P or PE to CE b'coz somewhere i read the protocol used between PE-CE is MP-BGP and that's why I'm confused) and what is it's purpose. So far I know MP-BGP is run in order to make the VPNv4 routes unique i.e IPV4+VPNv4. I would highly appreciate ur feedback if u explain the layer 3 concept entirely protocol wise...i.e IGP, MP-BGP in a MPLS domain. What I know so far is CE-PE protocol can be anything right from static to BGP. P-PE is MP-BGP.
Kindly pl. correct me wherever I'm wrong...
    Thanks in advance...

  • Orange Hue on VPL-HW30ES viewing 3d

    Hello all,
I have a projector VPL-HW30ES. Viewing in 2d is excellent !! However when viewing 3d content, I get an reddish-orange hue on the major portion of the right bottom of the screen. Also, the entire picture has a light greenish color -- especially viewing brightly colored pictures.
I bought the glasses : Model number: TDG-PJ1 and also TDGBR250/B. Not sure what is going on here.
I am viewing the movie "THOR".
Is there an issue with the projector?
    Thanks!

    Hello Sai,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
I recommend you to you check the hdmi cable to make sure its marked "hdmi high-speed" for 3D.  For more information regarding HDMI technology including HDMI cables, visit http://www.hdmi.org.  While I don't think the issue that you experienced when watching 3d is caused by the projector, however, it's neccessary for you to do a factory settings reset as part of troubleshooting process.
